Mistresses Ep: Why We Killed [Spoiler] — Plus: Season 5 Theory Debunked
Yunjin Kim, Rochelle Aytes, and Jes Macallan in Mistresses (2013)
Mistresses fans holding out hope for a Season 5 renewal, take heart: When the show’s producers sat down with ABC brass to discuss the conclusion of summer 2016 run, “they didn’t tell us to make a series finale,” says still-hopeful Ep Rina Mimoun, who co-wrote the teleplay for Tuesday’s polarizing cliffhanger with K.J. Mistresses Recap: Pill Street Blues
There are things to celebrate about this week’s Mistresses: the absence of bratty teen Lucy and awful Aussie Kate, the jaw-dropping beauty of Karen’s blue lace dress, and especially the insanity of Lydia dropping in during her boss’ “appetizer” course.

Mistresses Recap: Man Down!
Yunjin Kim, Rochelle Aytes, and Jes Macallan in Mistresses (2013)
Let us not speak of the church bake sale on this week’s Mistresses.

It’s not that we don’t care about snotty teenager Lucy and her immortal soul — Hey, now! I can hear you hissing “speak for yourself” from the comfort of your laptop — but April’s parenting struggles and the strain they’re putting on her relationship with long-suffering Marc are nothing more than the decorative kale taking up space in the haute-(mess) cuisine being whipped up by Joss, Karen and Kate.

Mistresses Recap: Post-Traumatic Mess Disorder
Normally, you’d hear no complaints from me about Mistresses‘ Josslyn Carver hacking a rival’s cell phone, using his rotten texts for her professional gain, then celebrating with a giant glass of vodka (followed by a beer in a plastic cup).

After all, I cheered wildly in previous seasons when she explored the world of Japanese bondage rope, attempted to seduce her boss’ husband as part of a sex-lies-and-videotape sting operation, and work-work-work-worked from home* with her sister’s ex-husband. Mistresses Review: I Choose Season 2!
It's the Mistresses season 1 finale and "I Choose You." By that I mean I choose Mistresses for a season 2 pickup because this show has had me yelling at my TV screen (and scaring my husband on occasion) all summer long.

Did anyone else get nervous when they saw that old T-Bird or am I the only viewer who's a bit of a nut about car safety? I mean, who decided that a lap belt was a good idea for a pregnant woman? The whole trip had disaster written all over it even if I hadn't already seen the previews.

The car accident looked nasty, as did Savi's face in the aftermath. Kudos to the makeup department for making it all look so real. You usually don't see that on network television.

Poor Joss got mostly back-burnered as she reacted to everyone else's drama. I was a little surprised she waited...

'Mistresses' finale: A Season 2 is definitely in order
"Mistresses" came to a stunning conclusion Monday night (Sept. 9), when the show gave us some answers and left us with two intense cliffhangers. Don't keep reading if you don't want to be spoiled.

But it takes a life-and-death scare for Savannah for Harry to realize he loves her and doesn't care who the baby's father is. Meanwhile, Savannah lets Dominic into her life by letting him into her hospital room and placing his hand on her tummy. He too proclaims his love for her.

Mistresses Review: What's in the Envelope?
Simply put, "When One Door Closes…" had me wanting to slam one out of sheer frustration.

Let's start with April, one of the Mistresses who made me want to throw things at my television...

Lucy disappeared from school and April was understandably frantic. Her first thought was the Paul had grabbed her and that was surely more comforting than some of the alternatives. At least she could be fairly certain Paul wouldn't hurt the girl.

But when it turned out that Lucy simply took off to see a concert and April didn't even ground the girl, I was blown away. This isn't the first time Lucy's pulled this prank. I know she's had a lot to deal with, but does that mean there shouldn't be consequences?

That therapist might want to charge extra. She has no idea what's heading her way.

I could understand Paul wanting to stick around for his daughter.

Mistresses Review: Love Bites
Everyone was looking for "Full Disclosure" this week on Mistresses. But be careful what you wish for, people. It just might bite back.

All four of the lovely ladies debated how much truth to tell. Let's start with the most self destructive...

Dr. Karen Kim, who's spent this entire season lying through her perfect pearly whites, chose a legal deposition to tell the truth. Never mind that doing so went against every word of her high priced attorney's advice.

Karen: And now my conscience is clear...I doubt you can say the same. | permalink

I'm sure that spouting this line to Elizabeth Grey was completely satisfying in the moment, but will it sustain her when she's stripped of her medical license? And I'm sure those words will lose some of their luster when she's remembering them from behind prison bars.

Not to mention that she just blew whatever chance she...

'Mistresses': Karen's Deposition Leads To Shocking Declaration
Elizabeth Grey certainly didn't see Karen dropping an honesty bomb all over her deposition coming on the latest episode of "Mistresses." Against the advice of her counsel, and with an alibi ready and willing to lie and say he was with her, Karen instead decided to go the route of total honesty.

She admitted that she'd fallen in love with Elizabeth's husband, Thomas. She then admitted to prescribing him morphine, knowing that he intended to use it to end his life.

“I couldn’t stand the thought of him suffering," Karen said. "And when he asked me if I would help him end his own life, I said I would. But that call never came. I believe Elizabeth Grey ended his life.”

Elizabeth was outraged, and denied the claim. But Karen said that she knew what wrongs she had committed. Airing them during the deposition cleared her conscience. She doubted Elizabeth's conscience was so clear.

Mistresses Review: From Curious to Kinky
From curious to kinky, Mistresses finally returned and I couldn't be happier the soapy, sexy drama was back. There have been far to few "Indecent Proposals" and Omg! moments on my TV these last few weeks.

Because once you've had a torrid affair with your terminally ill patient, kinky is one of the few appropriate words for bedding his son whose been stalking you. Karen keeps lamenting her innocence but the girl is just all kinds of messed up. Not to mention she's hardly innocent.

Let's recap: She prescribed her married lover/patient lethal doses of morphine. She later destroyed her medical records to cover her tracks. Then she wrote up false patient notes when said married lover's wife called her out.

Neither Karen nor Elizabeth Grey are innocents, but where Elizabeth is diabolical enough to have knocked off her cheating hubby, Karen is...

Mistresses Review: Mother of All Revelations
After last week's series of O.M.G.! moments, Mistresses returned with a few more, along with a heartbreaking reunion for our favorite sisters, as "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" brought Savi and Joss' mommy home for an enlightening visit.

But can we talk about Karen first because the stupid meter on Dr. Kim was setting off alarm bells this week? Karen ran to the girls to lament that Elizabeth Grey knew she was screwing around with her husband and Oh No!, what if she actually killed Tom?!?

Hate to say it, but I was with Joss on this one…

Joss: And if we want to look at the silver lining here, he was going to die soon anyway. So as far as murders go it's like not the worst kind of murder. | permalink

Karen was so wrapped up in her little murder mystery that she actually hired some sleazy...

Yunjin Kim, Rochelle Aytes, and Jes Macallan in Mistresses (2013)
Mistresses Recap: Mother of Dissension
Yunjin Kim, Rochelle Aytes, and Jes Macallan in Mistresses (2013)
Right from its very first episode, Mistresses has been a gasp-inducing delight. But somewhere, somehow, amidst the steamy shower sex and the fake dead husbands and the unopened paternity test results and the much-discussed “lethal doses of morphine,” ABC’s deliciously tawdry summer soap has proven it’s also got heart to go along with its cojones.

Mistresses Review: O... M... G!
It seems as though every Mistresses episode has several Omg! moments - but never have there been as many as in tonight's "Ultimatum."

So let's skip the pretense and get right down to the dirty details.

Harry side steps Savi's six-week baby exam with excuses about work but the truth is he just can't handle it. That realization made the look of hope on Savi's face all the more painful when he lied and told her he'd be there for the next one.

But Harry confesses to Karen that he doesn't think he can handle this and isn't it ironic how Karen can give such great advice to her friends but her own life is a complete train wreck.

Karen: Take it day by day and you may be surprised what you're capable of. | permalink

It sounds great when she says it but after day one, Harry knows his limits...

Mistresses Recap: 'Cahoots Happen!'
Yunjin Kim, Rochelle Aytes, and Jes Macallan in Mistresses (2013)
The exclamation “Oh no she ditn’t!” may have had its heyday somewhere between the end of Seinfeld and the beginning of the Kardashian sisters’ horrifying trek from the primordial ooze and into the public consciousness, but I’ll be damned if I didn’t shout it three separate times during this week’s installment of Mistresses.

Mistresses Review: Don't Answer the Door!
Mistresses was back this week in all its soapy glory. It featured so many emotional twists and turns that it left me hanging on to my sofa.

I'm definitely "All In" for the rest of the summer fun. Let's review the latest installment, character by character...

Savi - Harry's buddy and finance manager dropped an interesting bombshell: Savi used her life savings to back Harry's restaurant.

Am I a complete cynic or did Harry's "we'll get through this" come a little too quickly on the heels of finding out he might have to give up his beloved lamb dish without an influx of cash? And Savi will certainly have a lot less of that if she ditches her job for another firm.

Savi told Dom she was sticking around and it took all of 60 seconds for their natural chemistry to rise to the surface, even if they did promise to give one another space.

Mistresses Review: Smack Down!
Mistresses brought the "Payback" this week, as the truth led to tears and verbal smack downs all around. Let's start at the top…

Savi had a pre-work breakfast with her gal pals. Who gets to do that?!? I'm lucky if there's time to swallow my coffee.

Speaking of Savi, the gal possesses a great wardrobe, amazing house, gorgeous husband, incredibly hot work husband with benefits and even her lawn furniture looks good. Yet somehow her life is still a disaster zone.

After keeping secrets for weeks, suddenly Savi couldn't keep her mouth shut about anything. She told her girlfriends all the gory details about Harry shutting her out and told Dom she was pregnant... with Harry's baby. The only person she wasn't talking to was sister Joss.

Then, when she finally did tell Joss the truth, she tore her apart and it was just cruel. First she said she thought Joss wouldn't judge her enough,...

Mistresses Recap: A Tale of Two Sisters
Yunjin Kim, Rochelle Aytes, and Jes Macallan in Mistresses (2013)
Various skanks got all up in our protagonists’ grills on this week’s installment of Mistresses: But a busty restaurant hostess, a nefarious baby mama, a conniving widow and an office prude couldn’t do nearly as much damage to Savi, April, Karen and Joss as they could do to themselves.

Yep, this was the week when things got Really Real on summer’s most decadent TV treat, which is to say that real feelings got hurt, real tears got shed and I really realized my life won’t be the same if ABC doesn’t do the right...

Mistresses Review: Having Fun
"Decisions, Decisions" featured the ladies of Mistresses reacting in ways I hadn't expected.

Well, certain things I saw coming... sort of. I had little doubt that Alex and Joss would hook up eventually, I just didn't expect Alex to make the first move.

After finding a naked man passed out in Joss' bed after a rousing night of sex, I didn't foresee Alex reacting by propositioning Joss in the shower. Alex has always come off as a bit of a wallflower, but this was definitely a bold move. And that turned out to be one steamy shower!

Harry's reaction to the two women canoodling in front of the fridge was funny, yet what I really enjoyed was that these two actually talked afterwards. I agreed with Joss when she said she wasn't gay. This incident came across as more experimenting with a friend, but Alex was obviously attracted to her.

Mistresses TV Review – ABC Channels UK Series
ABC‘s Mistresses aims for UK gold, but we all know the dangers involved with the “Americanization” of British television. For every The Office, there are four or five Couplings. There’s even a show (Episodes) based on the often misguided, or downright ludicrous, decisions involved in trying to take something that works for British audiences, and turn them into something that appeals to those across the pond. Sometimes the theory is to tweak the way things work, sprinkle in notes of American culture, and hopefully deliver the spirit of things. Once in a while, as with the horrible failure that was the American Coupling (based on one of the best shows ever, by the way), the idea is to try to keep the show intact as much as possible, all the way down to only the most minor of changes to the script. Both theories have their hits and misses.
