“The Rising” Season 2 has been canceled just months before production was due to start, Variety has learned.

Cast and crew were gearing up for the Sky Studios show when they were told to down tools two months before principal photography got underway. “It was canceled before they were due to start filming,” a source familiar with the project told Variety. “All the cast and everything [were ready to go] and they just pulled the plug.”

Variety understands there were a “number of reasons” the production will not go ahead.

The second season, which was set to be titled “Risen,” was due to have a similar premise to the first but with different characters, settings and themes, turning the show into something of an anthology series.

The Rising is filled with all the twists and turns viewers have come to expect from a murder mystery drama. Adapted from Belgian crime thriller Beau Séjour, The Rising is set in small town in the British countryside, with sweeping landscapes and a thriving motocross community. The extra supernatural twist in this particular mystery is that its central character Neve Kelly (Clara Rugaard) is dead from the start, but for some reason remains on earth. She can be seen and heard by a select few, and with their help, she’s determined to figure out who murdered her and why. In this eight-episode Sky series, the first six instalments are spent making discoveries and following false leads. The show pulls no punches, and takes you on an emotional journey where no-one, for the most part, is presented as either entirely good or bad until the killer is revealed.

To celebrate the release of The Rising, the thrilling new series coming to Sky this weekend, we had the pleasure of chatting to the cast about the riveting and timely new show

The show, which airs on Sky Max and Nowtv, takes an unorthodox perspective of crime dramas. After Neve Kelly discovers she has been murdered and, confused by her new form of existence, she is determined to find her killer; believing it is someone she knew.

Chatting to the cast, including Clara Rugaard (Neve), Matthew McNulty (Tom), Emily Taaffe (Maria), Alex Lanipekun (Daniel), Nenda Neururer (Alex) and Solly McLeod (Joe), we spoke about the lure of the show and its unique approach to this kind of thriller series, portraying a character for a longer period of time and the acting challenges of such a role, as well the importance of shining a light on the shocking rise in cases in violence towards women.

Exclusive: Domina and The Terror actor Matthew McNulty has joined Sky’s supernatural crime thriller The Rising. McNulty replaced actor Daniel Ings in pre-production with filming ongoing in the UK on the series.

Sky has announced the production of a brand new 8-part supernatural crime thriller ‘The Rising’, adapted from the Belgian crime thriller ‘Hotel Beau Séjour.’

The series will be the first produced entirely in-house from Sky Studios, Sky’s production and development arm, who are working with executive producer Julian Stevens, producer of ‘The Fall’ (BBC Two) and ‘Informer’ (BBC Two).

The thriller will follow the story of Neve Kelly (Rugaard), who discovers that she is dead. She’s scared and confused by this new existence. But, when she realises she has been murdered, she’s furious. She’s determined to find her killer and get justice, believing that it was someone she knew.

Clara Rugaard, the Danish actress who starred in Netflix’s I Am Mother, is to lead the cast for Sky’s The Rising, a supernatural crime thriller that was originally inspired by Belgian drama Hotel Beau Séjour.

Deadline first revealed in October 2019 that Sky was making its own version of Hotel Beau Séjour, and the drama is now poised to shoot in the Lake District, England, next month. The eight-part series represents the first Sky drama produced entirely in-house by Sky Studios.

Sky has debuted a new trailer for the upcoming historical drama series ‘Domina’, a series that brings to life the power struggles of Ancient Rome from a different perspective; that of the women.

The series follows the life and extraordinary rise of Livia Drusilla, who overcame adversity to become the most powerful woman in the world.

Kasia Smutniak plays Livia Drusilla, with the young Livia played by Nadia Parkes (The Spanish Princess). Whether or not Sky Atlantic’s Riviera was a Neil Jordan series may remain in doubt, but one thing’s for sure, the story has moved well past the original concept sketched out by the Irish writer/ director.

Jordan had taken the concept of a sex and drugs-riddled murder-mystery set in the French Riviera to the execs at Sky, who gave him the chance to write the opening episodes. But after much tinkering, Jordan distanced himself from the project that would go on to become one of Sky’s most-watched, self-produced shows of all time.

And with that success in the bag, we’re moving into season two territory.

Julia styles returns as the art curator-turned-bemused widow Georgina Clios, who spent the first series drilling her way into the mystery surrounding the death of her billionaire husband, Constantine Clios (Anthony Lapaglia). And this time, there’s a rival rich family to contend with.

The Sky Original Riviera returns for Season 2 and we spoke to cast members Julia Stiles, Poppy Delevingne, Jack Fox, Juliet Stevenson and more on the red carpet in London. Season 2 deals with the explosive aftermath of the events of Season 1. High Fashion on the high seas, the show was created by Neil Jordan and is coming to Sky soon.

The show also stars Lena Olin, Adrian Lester, Iwan Rheon, Dimitri Leonidas and Roxane Duran.

It’s been a week of grief and mourning for Helen (Lyndsy Fonseca) after finding her husband Wells (Noah Bean) dead by suicide at their secluded cabin. She’s dealing with his absence like anyone would by closing off spaces they shared together in hopes of avoiding too many easy triggers for memories that only bring sadness. Work should distract her during the day and Wells’ business partner Tomas (Glenn Morshower) continuing their secretive scientific research should honor his legacy. This doesn’t mean she’ll forget him, forgive him, or stop blaming herself for missing the signs of his pain, but they say life will eventually go on. What they don’t say, however, is that you just might awaken one morning with no recollection of multiple days since you fell asleep.

They don’t because that doesn’t happen in the real world — at least not without the help of some heavy drugs.

This time travel film follows a young engineer named Helen Phillips, played by Lyndsy Fonseca (who you will recognize from Kick-Ass or "Agent Carter"), distraught by her husband's suicide. He had been developing a time travel prototype. She wakes up one morning and gets a phone call from herself, which sets things in motion as she tries to figure out what's going on. Co-starring Linda Hamilton, Glenn Morshower, Alex Lanipekun, Zach Avery, Noah Bean. I saw this at Sitges and unfortunately it's not good. It has all the right ingredients, including a cool-looking time travel machine, but just doesn't amount to much and is instantly forgettable. Check it out. Screen Media Films has released the first trailer and poster for Curvature, which puts an interesting twist on the time travel genre. The thriller stars Lyndsy Fonseca as a scientist, who must break into a top-secret facility in order to travel back in time and prevent a murder after receiving a mysterious phone call from herself. While we won't know for sure until next month when it hits theaters, this movie could be one of the first sleeper hits of 2018.

The film had its world premiere at the Shriekfest Film Festival in October, where it won Best Sci-Fi Feature, followed by a screening at the Stiges Film Festival. Screen Media Films has slated the film for release on February 23, 2018, in limited release and through on demand formats.
