DC Studios' Dceu reboot hasn't quite been the fresh start most fans imagined it would be. While James Gunn and Peter Safran have mostly started from scratch with the Dcu, the former's decision to enlist several familiar faces from Peacemaker has led to some confusion.

Gunn's explanation is that these are different versions of the same characters with slightly different backgrounds. It makes sense, but further confusing matters is the fact that Peacemaker season 2 will include a Multiversal storyline, with Christopher Smith visiting a world where he's a beloved hero.

The prevailing theory was that this would explain his journey from the Dceu to the Dcu. However, Gunn has confirmed that's not the case, despite confirming that Peacemaker will somehow address the change.

Written and developed by James Gunn, who is the co-chief of DC Studios and directed Superman recently, Peacemaker season 2 will directly relate to the events of Superman and will see Peacemaker go on another mission with the 11th Street Kids.

Gunn did, however, confirm that the Dcu is made up of at least 100 universes, one of which is presumably Matt Reeves' Batverse.

James Gunn's Superman movie is a hit, with the film having a solid box office run so far and positive reviews. That means many of the Dcu's canon characters introduced in Superman will likely pop up in other DC projects in the near future.

A few of those returns had already been revealed, with Peacemaker season 2 set to feature the return of the Justice Gang. The panel kicked off by showing the new Season 2 trailer, which reveals that Cena’s Peacemaker travels through a portal to an alternate dimension where “the grass is greener.” Down on his luck and rejected by Holland’s Emilia Harcourt, Peacemaker runs away to a new universe, which causes inter-dimensional problems. Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr., head of the mysterious DC Universe company A.R.G.U.S., also searches for Peacemaker, who killed his son Rick Flag Jr. (played by Joel Kinnaman in “The Suicide Squad”).

Ahead of this afternoon's Peacemaker panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, Superman director James Gunn has shared some official behind-the-scenes photos of John Cena's cameo as Christopher Smith.

In the movie, Lex Luthor reveals to the world that Superman's parents sent him to Earth to conquer the planet and form a harem. Capitalising on his disdain for beloved superheroes like the Man of Steel, the jealous Peacemaker appears on a talk show to trash Supes.

Also featured in these photos is Michael Ian Black's Cleavis Thornwaite, a character Gunn has confirmed will return in Peacemaker season 2.

The series is expected to feature a Multiverse component, with the Dcu's Peacemaker visiting a world where he's considered a beloved hero (the Dceu isn't likely to factor into the story). We'll also see several familiar faces from the Superman movie.
