‘Last Night On Earth’ Movie Ending Explained & Full Story: Did Earth Really End?
Image
The existence of life on Earth was a cosmic accident, and someday in future a similar phenomenon will become the reason for its undoing—unless manmade catastrophes don’t spell doom before that already. How will humanity respond to such a crisis? This draws several philosophical questions, which Director Marcos Efron’s Last Night on Earth tries to answer. The question of survival, the acceptance of fate in the face of the inevitability of death, and coping with one’s own mortality are a few of the themes the movie addresses, as is expected from a doomsday drama such as this. However, in my personal opinion, the thriller element added to the plotline might serve a distinct purpose, as we will discuss later, but it doesn’t sit well with the narrative as a whole.

Spoilers Ahead

What Caused the Doomsday Scenario?

Last Night on Earth opens with Carl Sagan...

‘Last Night on Earth’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Leven Rambin, Jake McLaughlin, Dee Wallace, Shane West, Sohvi Rodriguez | Written and Directed by Marcos Efron

Opening with a quote from Carl Sagan, “For small creatures such as we, the vastness is made bearable only through love” Last Night on Earth then shows us a brief glimpse of a couple and their young son camping. The man seems troubled, the woman so obviously upset that the boy asks his father about it. “She’s just tired” he replies unconvincingly.

Nearby, Holly and Ryan are staying in a trailer. They seem happy, although there are hints to the contrary scattered through their conversations and actions. A flashback to a party only heightens the feeling.

Writer/director Marcos Efron teases the viewer, making it clear that something is very wrong with the world we are seeing, but not giving any clues as to what that is. And if you actually did...

And Soon The Darkness: Review
Director: Marcos Efron. Review: Adam Wing. Stephanie (Amber Heard) and Ellie (Odette Yustman) aren’t the sharpest tools in the box. After misplacing the rest of their cycling party, they travel to an exotic village in Argentina where they spend most of the time basking in the sun, getting drunk and flirting with locals. They might regret that decision later. After a long night of bar- hopping, Ellie decides to take a strange guy home with her, but she changes her mind when they get back to the apartment and pushes him away. She might regret that decision later. Luckily for them, a quiet, handsome outsider (Karl Urban) steps in to save the day. Next morning, the girls go to a deserted lake (they might regret that decision later) to top up on their tans. After a needless argument, Stephanie abandons her ‘friend’ in the wilderness and cycles alone to...

Blu-ray Reviews: And Soon The Darkness – Decent Remake of Obscure Cult Classic
And Soon The Darkness, is a title that may already be familiar with cult film fans. Originally made in 1970, the film centered around two English women on a French cycling holiday who run into a vicious killer and the tense, atmospheric thriller is one of the more memorable ‘women-in-peril’ horror’s of the seventies that didn’t have to rely on cheap shock tactics to gain notoriety.

The film was written by Brian Clemens, creator of ‘The Professionals’ and writer on ‘The Avengers’, along with co-writer Terry Nation, creator of ‘Blakes 7’ and the Daleks from ‘Dr Who’.

The 2010 remake directed by first time director Marcos Efron and starring 21st century scream queen Amber Heard who also co-produces, comes to Blu-ray and DVD this week. Here is our review;

With a few changes to the location and nationality of lead roles the remake stays pretty faithful to the original. Best friends...

And Soon The Darkness DVD review
The opening 60 seconds of this film are enough to make you scream with frustration -- which would at least drown out the screams emitting from the scantily-clad young lady we're witnessing, whilst tied to a drainpipe, being whipped and electrocuted by an unseen Spanish-speaking assailant. It feels like we're in torture porn territory; the horrors of Saw and Hostel come to claim us once more.

All I can say to that pre-credit impulse to switch off is: Don't. And Soon The Darkness is by no means a classic -- and it does little we haven't seen before -- but it is more thoughtful, suspenseful and, well, good, than that opening sequence suggests.

A remake of the cult 1970s British thriller of the same name -- about a pair of young women on a cycling holiday who ride into trouble -- this version replaces young Brits with young Americans and the French countryside with Argentinean,...

And Soon The Darkness Review | An Instructional Video On How To Get Kidnapped In Argentina
Here are the 10 lessons found in this instructional video, And Soon The Darkness How To Get Kidnapped In Argentina:

1. Be a skinny, pretty white girl. Nobody wants dark meat.

2. Go on a guided tour of the country, but quickly abandon it and strike out on your own with little other than a change of clothes and flip flops.

3. Make sure neither of you speaks the local language.

4. Be condescending as fuck to all of the locals.

5. Hole up in a teeny bungalow. Don't lock the doors.

6. Dress nice and slutty (note: not really, but the film plays it as such), go to the local townie bar and proceed to get hammered. Then, dance all seductive-like with the local boys. Look to The Accused for inspiration, if need be. Remember: Nice girls don't get kidnapped. Slutty girls? You got what's comin' your trampy way.

7. Make sure all of the menacing, dark-skinned...

And Soon The Darkness (Review - New to DVD this week)
2010 - 91 mins. - Rated R

D: Marcos Efron

C: Amber Heard, Odette Yustman, César Vianco, Karl Urban, Adriana Barraza, Gia Mantegna, Michel Noher, Jorge Booth, Luis Sabatini

Updating of the 1970 classic about two American friends stuck in Argentina. After a dispute they separate. One of them is kidnapped and the other is left to look for her friend in an unknown place on her own after the police don't seem all that interested in helping.

For almost all of the film's running time nothing happens. Nothing unexpected, interestingly acted, excitingly violent or even gratuitously arousing. And Soon The Darkness is a relentlessly lackluster example of the stranded tourists being tortured in a foreign country formula. The formula is always the same. A group of tourists are stranded in a foreign country with no way of leaving. The protagonist get separated somehow or someway. One of them gets kidnapped, tortured and killed.

And Soon The Darkness (2010) Movie Review
The first thing you see in writer/director Marcos Efron’s new thriller, “And Soon the Darkness”, a remake of a 1970 British film of the same name, is a young, scantily clad woman, chained to a wall, get electrocuted by some unseen villain. This gives you the immediate impression that the film is going to be another torture porn. So it is a pleasant surprise when “And Soon the Darkness” instead turns out to be a tight, well-executed suspense film. It isn’t exploring any new territory, but for what it is, it is well done. Stephanie (Amber Heard, who also serves as co-producer) and Ellie (Odette Yustman) are nearing the end of a once-in-a-lifetime bicycle trip through Argentina. Steph is the low key, almost prudish girl, while Ellie is the wild, free-spirited part of the duo. On their last day they come to a remote mountain village, and after a shower,...

'And Soon the Darkness' Exclusive Clip: Amber Heard and Karl Urban on the Hunt
Piranha 3D (2010)
Filed under: Trailers and Clips, Horror, Cinematical

While 2010 hasn't exactly been a stellar year for horror movies as a whole, it's at least been a pretty good year for horror remakes. Sure, 'Nightmare on Elm Street' rattled a few cages, but 'The Crazies' and 'Let Me In' are both superb remakes in their own right, and 'Piranha 3D' was a ton of raunchy fun, so three-out-of-four Hollywood remakes delivering the goods isn't too bad of a track record. On December 17th we'll know if 'And Soon the Darkness' can bump that record to four-out-of-five.

A remake of the 1970 British thriller of the same name, Marcos Efron's remake takes the same fish-out-of-water approach, but instead swaps rural France for South America. Here's the official synopsis:

"Stephanie (Amber Heard) and Ellie's (Odette Yustman) vacation to an exotic village in Argentina is a perfect 'girl's getaway' to bask in the sun,...

Movie Trailer for the Horror/Thriller And Soon The Darkness
Here's a trailer for a horror/thriller that is being released called And Soon The Darkness. I didn't even know this movie was being released until the trailer popped up over the weekend. The film is another remake, and it was directed by Marcos Efron. The movie also has an interesting cast with some familiar names that includes Amber Heard (Zombieland), Odette Yustman (The Unborn), Karl Urban (Star Trek), Gia Mantegna, and Adriana Barraza.

The trailer doesn't really make the film look that interesting at all. It's a recycled story that we've seen several time before. But, who knows... it might be a fun flick. I guess it all depends on if you like these kinds of films.

Synopsis:

Stephanie (Amber Heard) and Ellie's (Odette Yustman) vacation to an exotic village in Argentina is a perfect "girl's getaway" to bask in the sun, shop and flirt with the handsome locals.

Yustman, Heard and Urban in 'And Soon the Darkness' Trailer
Before this trailer hit today, I didn't even know this movie existed! Apple has debuted a trailer for another new horror remake called And Soon the Darkness starring two beautiful actresses: Amber Heard and Odette Yustman, as well as Karl Urban. But, of course, it's another one of those bland horror films that is being sold purely on the attractiveness of the two leading ladies. This reminds me a lot of Turistas meets A Perfect Getaway... or something like that. I wish Odette Yustman would actually star in more than only cheap horror, but I guess she needs to make a living. Anyway, if you're into this kind of stuff, check it out. Watch the official trailer for Marcos Efron's And Soon the Darkness: You can also watch the And Soon the Darkness trailer in High Definition on Apple When two American girls (Odette Yustman and Amber Heard) go...
