Star Trek's long history has seen its fair share of disasters. From Captain James T. Part of Star Trek's classic introduction to Tribbles in Star Trek: The Original Series season 2, episode 15, "The Trouble With Tribbles", was set up by Star Trek: Discovery. In "The Trouble With Tribbles", Captain James T. Kirk's (William Shatner) USS Enterprise crew meets Klingon Captain Koloth's (William Campbell) crew on Space Station K-7. Instead of attacking the station, the Klingons claim to want shore leave. A Klingon plot to sabotage the Federation settlement on Sherman's Planet is unveiled and subsequently thwarted when an outbreak of mass-replicating Tribbles consumes a shipment of poisoned quadrotriticale grain destined for the colony.

Star Trek: The Original Series' incident on K-7 alerts Kirk to a very important fact: Klingons do not like Tribbles, and Tribbles do not like Klingons. That mutual hatred points towards the true mastermind behind the poisoned quadrotriticale: Arne Darvin (Charlie Brill), assistant to the Federation Undersecretary in charge of agriculture.

Star Trek: Discovery's Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) was once infamous as Starfleet's first mutineer, and she also got no recognition for another Starfleet first. Star Trek: Discovery's series premiere introduced Michael Burnham as a Commander and the First Officer of the USS Shenzhou under Captain Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh). Burnham sparked the war between the resurgent Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets in 2256-2257, which reinstalled the Klingons as Starfleet's deadliest enemies.

The Klingon Empire was established in Star Trek: Discovery's series premiere to have been "in disarray for generations." However, T'Kuvma (Chris Obi) sought to unite the 24 Great Houses by lighting the Beacon of Kahless. T'Kuvma believed himself to be the Klingon Messiah, and he planned to reestablish galactic Klingon dominance by leading the unified Klingon Empire into a war with Starfleet and the Federation. Commander Michael Burnham and the USS Shenzhou discovered the Klingons' intentions.

Kenneth Mitchell's diverse roles in Star Trek showcased his talent and dedication despite battling Als. Mitchell's impact on Star Trek extended beyond his on-screen roles, inspiring his fellow cast and crew. The character of Aurellio in Star Trek: Discovery season 3 was created specifically for Mitchell.

The late Kenneth Mitchell was a beloved member of the Star Trek: Discovery cast, playing four different roles between seasons 1 and 3. As well as playing multiple roles in Discovery, Kenneth Mitchell also voiced several characters in Star Trek: Lower Decks season 1, episode 8, "Veritas". In 2018, Mitchell was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Als), a neurological disease that causes progressive degeneration of the nerve cells in the spinal cord and brain. Star Trek: Discovery has featured some compelling antagonists over its first four seasons, as well as its fair share of villainous misfires. Originally set a decade before the events of Star Trek: The Original Series, Discovery has been one of the more controversial entries in the Star Trek franchise. Discovery season 1 was notoriously shaky, as it leaned into a dark, violent tone and featured plenty of technological anachronisms. The show found its footing in the much-improved season 2, and boldly reset its premise when the titular vessel traveled to the 32nd century for season 3 and beyond.

Discovery has never been particularly defined by its villains, as most of its focus has been on its Starfleet crew like Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the Kelpien officer Saru (Doug Jones). That's not to say Discovery hasn't had some great villain turns, particularly early on when the show was still struggling to find an identity.

If there was one show that needed to Nail its premiere, Star Trek: Discovery was it.

On this stardate in 2017, Star Trek: Discovery Season 1 Episode 1 relaunched the television franchise that hasn't embarked on a voyage since 2005's Enterprise finale.

Plagued by rumors of production issues and showrunner conflicts, fans could be forgiven for harboring some concerns about the show.

After all, more than any other franchise out there, Star Trek defines not only a fandom for Trekkers, it embodies their moral code, their sense of representation, and even their hopes for humanity's future.

Not to mention the snazzy uniform update.

The casting news has periodically electrified fans over the years as they salivated over every bit of news they could find.

It looks like the crew of the Discovery have their work cut out for them as they embark on what looks to be a dangerously insane new adventure! This is a great, action-packed trailer that definitely upped my excitement for the return of the series!

The crew of the USS Discovery will "boldly go" to a place cancelled TV series never see. CBS All Access has renewed its Star Trek: Discovery TV show for a second season. The renewal news comes about three weeks ahead of the show's mid-season hiatus. After the November 12th episode, Star Trek: Discovery will take a break until January of the new year. “You guys don’t even know the journey that awaits you,” Sonequa Martin-Green teased on “After Trek,” the “Star Trek: Discovery” after-show that streamed on CBS All Access Sunday night. Several cast members were either beamed in (via satellite) or appeared in studio to discuss the series’ two-episode premiere that debuted half on broadcast television and half on CBS All Access.

Hosted by TV writer and podcaster Matt Mira, “After Trek” gave fans a place to interact online and through social media to discuss the night’s episodes. The show also provides a platform to debut exclusive never-before-seen content, including a featurette of Chris Obi explaining what it takes to play the Klingon T’Kuvma, one giving a behind-the-scenes look at shooting Burnham’s zero-gravity sequence, and a sneak peek of Episode 3.

CBS has released a new featurette for Star Trek: Discovery that puts the focus on composer Jeff Russo and the score that he created for the opening title sequence of the series. It shows him working with a 60-piece orchestra and we get to hear the score that he came up with. It's actually really good and it wonderfully blends the original musical cue with the new theme. Star Trek: Discovery will follow the voyages of Starfleet on their missions to discover new worlds and new lifeforms, and one Starfleet officer who must learn that to truly understand all things alien, you must first understand yourself. The series will feature a new ship, new characters and new missions, while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers.

A new promo spot has been released for Star Trek: Discovery that promises the show will “Boldly Go.” The spot features several of the main characters from the series including Captain Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh), Captain Gabriel Lorca (Jason Isaacs), T’Kuvma (Chris Obi), Ambassador Sarek (James Frain), Lieutenant Saru (Doug Jones), and First Officer Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green).

Martin-Green provides the narration for the spot and offers a mission statement for the Discovery:

“As we stand at the edge of an unknown universe, we know our greatest challenges lie before us, that our future is not bound by fear and that our mission is not to conquer, but to discover. That is our destiny, a destiny written in the stars. So, we boldly go where we have never gone before.”

This really looks like it will be a promising series, but to be honest, I just don’t see...

As the first new “Star Trek” television series in over a decade, “Star Trek: Discovery” has gotten a lot of attention since it was first announced in November 2015.

There have been production delays and some behind-the-scenes drama – specifically, the departure of original showrunner Bryan Fuller. But fans are now finally on the verge of actually getting to see the sci-fi drama in action — there’s even a premiere date, which means it’s really happening.

Below, here’s everything that’s been revealed to date about what to expect from the upcoming CBS All Access series, from when and where it launches to the producers’ groundbreaking narrative choices.

Season 1 Has a Complicated Release Strategy

The first episode of “Star Trek: Discovery” officially premieres on Sunday, September 24 at 8:30 p.m. Et on CBS (the actual network). At that same time, the episode will also be available on demand and on CBS All Access, and CBS All Access subscribers will be able to watch the second episode as well.

The first two episodes, according to CBS All Access President and COO Marc DeBevoise, “set up [the show] like a movie. They will serve to create the foundation of the story line for the series.”

Yes, viewers will need to subscribe to CBS All Access to watch the show as a whole. “Discovery” will run for eight episodes this fall before “Chapter 1” (that’s what CBS is calling the first half) ends, with “Chapter 2” picking up in January 2018. Essentially, it’s the sort of split-season approach viewers have seen before with shows like “Breaking Bad.”

“Discovery” Has No Connection With Chris Pine

Sorry for the nerd moment, but the recent feature film revival of “Star Trek” technically exists in a different timeline from the established “Trek” television universe. The events of the 2009 film established that every time you see Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto on screen, they’re part of what we call the “Kelvin-verse,” named after the spaceship destroyed in the opening minutes of the first film directed by J.J. Abrams.

“Discovery,” meanwhile, takes place 10 years before James T. Kirk became a Starfleet officer, but in the same timeline that “The Next Generation,” “Deep Space Nine,” and “Voyager” exist in. If this proves confusing, just think to yourself that movies and TV shows are different entities. Because, in this case, that’s true.

The Show’s Lead is a Female First Officer, and She’s Probably Met Spock

Meet Michael Burnham!

What we know about her so far: She’s human, and the “ward” of Ambassador Sarek (played here by James Frain), which means that she is technically the adopted sister of Sarek’s son Spock. The producers have been otherwise tightlipped on what Burnham’s relationship with Spock might be, beyond a “wait-and-see” messaging.

Burnham was raised on Vulcan, and considers Sarek a mentor. Her parents are dead, and Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) is another mentor figure. At Comic-Con, it was also mentioned that she graduated from the Vulcan Science Academy (no easy task) and is a rising star in Starfleet.

Martin-Green’s availability was mentioned as a factor in the show’s delay in launching — executive producer Alex Kurtzman told critics that the casting process “was a tough search. And, you know, you’re always hoping for the perfect person to walk in the door, and we really did not want to set out until we knew we had what we needed, and we saw Sonequa… We saw her work, and we went, ‘She’s the one.'”

Unfortunately, Martin-Green was committed to “The Walking Dead” at that time, so according to Kurtzman, “we felt that that was another reason to wait. And so, we did.”

Here’s Why Burnham’s First Name is Michael

According to co-showrunner Aaron Harberts, the name “Michael” was selected because of Fuller. “We’ve worked on many shows with Bryan, and it’s a motif. It’s his signature move to name his lead women with names that would typically be associated as male,” he said during the Television Critics Association press tour.

“An archangel is named Michael as well, and it just had a lot of potency for us,” he added.

Martin-Green had a strong take on that choice, saying that “I appreciated the sort of statement it makes all on its own to have this woman with this male name… I also just decided for my creation and for my background and whatnot that I was named after my father.” If we ever see Burnham’s father in flashbacks, know that his name is theoretically Michael.

The Cast is Crazy Diverse Beyond Its Lead

“Discovery’s” supporting cast includes Michelle Yeoh, Jason Isaacs, James Frain, Maulik Pancholy, Sam Vartholomeos, Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Chris Obi, Shazad Latif, Mary Chieffo, Jason Isaacs, Kenneth Mitchell, and Rekha Sharma.

Many of these actors are non-white and/or playing aliens, such as Jones as Saru, who is a member of a new alien race called the Kelpien. Kelpians are very tall and apparently have hooves — click here to see Jones demonstrate Saru’s very specific walk during the Comic-Con panel.

Yes, The Klingons Look Different

“Discovery” features not just new alien species, but new takes on established races. As IndieWire observed when the first trailer premiered, the physical representation of Klingons in “Star Trek” has never been consistent over the course of the franchise’s history, so it’s no surprise they look different yet again.

According to Harberts, the new look for the Klingons was deliberately driven by Fuller: “One of the things he really wanted to do was shake up the design of the Klingons, and one of the first things that he ever pitched to us when we were deciding whether or not to come on the show was his aesthetic for the Klingons and how important it was that they not be the thugs of the universe, that they be sexy and vital and different from what had come before.”

Harberts credited creature concept designer Neville Page and make-up department head Glenn Hetrick with working with Fuller on the Klingon design — it was just one of the elements that the producers pointed to as a sign that Fuller had had a lasting impact on the series.

“We honor what he did, and we love so much of what’s there, and much of what’s there… it came from his mind,” Kurtzman said.

“Discovery” Will Feature the First Gay “Trek” TV Romance

At Comic-Con, it was revealed that Rapp’s character, science officer Paul Stamets, would be in a relationship with the Discovery’s chief medical officer Hugh Culber, played by “My So-Called Life” star Wilson Cruz.

While the film “Star Trek Beyond” chose to reveal that Sulu (as played by John Cho) was in a committed relationship with a man, this is the first time a television series has not just depicted a gay character, but given him a fleshed-out romance. It’s one of the show’s most promising commitments to diversity.

This Is “The Most Serialized ‘Star Trek’ Ever”

According to executive producer Akiva Goldsman, “Discovery” will be more serialized than any other “Trek” series, and he held the first season of “Discovery” up against “Trek’s” previous experiments with ongoing storylines (most notably later seasons of “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” which featured multiple examples of multi-episode arcs).

This goes beyond a shift away from “Trek’s” pre-established “mission of the week” format — it has lead to a fundamental change in the “Trek” ethos. Decades ago, “Trek” established a reputation in its writers room for the concept that its central characters should not be flawed characters, that they should instead represent the best that humanity might have to offer on a week-to-week.

There have been exceptions to this principle — witness “Deep Space Nine’s” revolutionary choices, as just one example — but “Discovery” will deliberately veer away from this famous “Trek” tradition, established by original creator Gene Roddenberry, who wrote in the original “Next Generation” series bible that the show was about characters who “have been selected for this mission because of their ability to transcend their human failings.”

Roddenberry’s directive meant that “Trek” characters were supposed to be “above” interpersonal conflict, but that’s a concept that “Discovery” will be veering away from, as a result of its new format. “It’s longform character storytelling. And without conflict, there is no longform character storytelling,” Goldsman said.

Also, In “Star Trek: Discovery,” We Are At War

When “Discovery” begins, things aren’t great between the Klingons and the Federation, and thus the show will deal with some serious drama. “You know, war is the greatest conflict of all,” Martin-Green said, “It’s just about asking those deeply profound questions of “Who am I, and who are you, and how do I relate to you? How do we live with each other? How do we make acculturation a two‑way exchange, rather than me dominating you or you dominating me?”

Goldsman explained: “We are in a time of war, and we are trying to find out who we are as a Federation and as a coalition of peoples in the face of adversity. So it is entirely the outcome role of the show to arrive at the principles — the utopian principles that I think are endemic to ‘Star Trek,’ and at the same time not to suggest that doing that is simple or easy. You can’t simply be accepting and tolerant without working for it, and so this show is about that struggle, and we are really insanely proud of that attempt on our part.”

“Star Trek” Will Always Be About Optimism, Even At Its Darkest Moments

Kurtzman mused that “Discovery” still aimed to pay true to classic “Trek’s” legacy. “I think the defining characteristic of Mr. Roddenberry’s universe is its optimism, as everybody on this panel has discussed, the belief that we can do better; the belief that we can connect; the belief that species and people around the entire galaxy can figure out a way to exist in the Federation; and that wars, if they have to be fought, can be stopped. And we talk about that all the time,” he said.

Goldsman noted in regards to the show’s commitment to inclusion that “we take it really seriously. I mean, for us, ‘Star Trek’ is deeply meaningful. It doesn’t mean we are not going to tell stories that people who don’t like ‘Star Trek’ or have never seen ‘Star Trek’ won’t enjoy, but what you have up here is a lot of folks who can find a TV show [to be] wish fulfillment, can find it close to their calling. It may sound absurd, but it’s true for us, and we are delighted about it.”

Accompanying the three exclusive covers that were unveiled last week, Entertainment Weekly has now revealed a brand new batch of photos from Star Trek: Discovery that give us some fresh snaps of already familiar characters, as well as a few new details.

For starters, there’s one awesome team shot that showcases Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter) as Captain Lorca of the Discovery, Doug Jones (Hellboy) as Lieutenant Saru, Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon) as Captain Georgiou of the Shenzhou and Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead) as First Officer Michael Burnham, while other images highlight those four characters individually, including our best look yet at Saru, who’s described as “a snarky Kelpian with heightened survival instincts.”

Another pic gives us our first look at The Office‘s Rainn Wilson as Harry Mudd, who’s one of two characters from Star Trek: The Original Series who will be appearing in the show.

CBS All Access has released the Comic-Con trailer for Star Trek: Discovery and it's the best and most intense trailer that I've seen for the series yet! The show takes place in a time when there is a conflict between Starfleet and Klingons, who are rising up to prove their power in the galaxy. we get our best look at this story in this trailer, which also features some pretty cool looking action sequences.

The series has such a cinematic feel to it and it looks like nothing we've really seen before from the Star Trek franchise and I like that about it. It looks like CBS actually has a great Star Trek series on their hands. The big question remains... will people pay for another streaming subscription service to watch it?

Star Trek: Discovery...

As a fan of Doug Jones, one of the things I'm looking forward to most about Star Trek: Discovery is seeing him play this new alien character. Until now, we really didn't know much about who he's playing, but thanks to EW, we have some intriguing new information to share with you. What we have known is that Jones plays a character named Lt. Saru and he is the Starfleet Science Officer. He's described as being the "Spock" of the series.

We managed to get a little tease of the character in the trailer that was released and according to showrunner Aaron Harberts, he has the power of sensing death! That's got to be one of the most depressing powers ever!

“What we can tell you that adds the context to that clip where he says he can sense the coming of death is that he comes from a planet...

The transporter rooms in the upcoming series Star Trek: Discovery look very different from any of the transporter rooms that we've seen in the franchise in the past. This photo features one of the transporter rooms on a starship and it features Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Captain Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) preparing to beam down somewhere and it looks like they are suited up for some possible action. They are sporting some kind of body armor and their phasers are at their side and ready to go. In the foreground on the left, we see the back of Lt. Saru, who is an alien character played by Doug Jones.

According to EW, "This particular transporter bay is aboard the U.S.S. Shenzhou and it’s unlike any that Trek fans have ever seen before." The Shenzhou is an older ship. I actually really dig the design because it has a very retro type feel to it. The report also says that the "U.S.S. Discovery is very different from this one" but it has yet to be officially revealed. We did get a glimpse of the bridge of the Discovery in a recent photo featuring Jason Isaacs as Captain Lorca. That photo gave us a great look at the Starfleet uniform design. Thanks to TrekMovie we also have a detailed infographic to share with you that breaks down all of the details for that uniforms.

CBS All Access has confirmed that Star Trek: Discovery will premiere on Sunday, September, 24th. They even released a motion poster making the announcement, which you can check out below. It features the U.S.S. Discovery - Ncc-1031 taking flight.

It was also revealed by Deadline that the 15-episode first season will be split into two. They say the first eight episodes will air on Sundays from September 24th through November 5th. The season then will resume with the second part of the season in January 2018.

After that first trailer was released, I got pretty excited about the series. I just hate that I have to subscribe to CBS All Access to watch it. I'll watch the first episode and if it doesn't blow me away, they aren't getting my money.

Twice delayed, Star Trek: Discovery has finally placed its crosshairs on a firm premiere date on CBS: Sunday, September 24th.

Not only that, but after the network’s sci-fi revival became a tale that grew immensely in the telling, we now have confirmation that Discovery‘s inaugural season has been split in two, with the first eight episodes running from September 24th through until November 5th. That’s not all that surprising given Star Trek: Discovery is still in active production, and the extended development window will lend VFX artists and other creators additional time to brush up the final seven episodes before they hit the small screen in January of 2018.

It’s the franchise that inspired a generation and on September 24th, Discovery will become the first Star Trek TV series since the short-lived Enterprise bowed off the airwaves in 2005. Now, more than a decade later, CBS is ready...

Laura Moon has filled the first season of American Gods without actually being on screen all that much. She was all Shadow wanted to have back when he got out of jail, and her phone calls clearly kept him going while in jail. The loss of his wife and best friend in the same moment of betrayal took away his post-jail life and put him directly into the service of Mr. Wednesday. Shadow's been consumed with Laura, and with his grief over her, this entire time, but we haven't really heard or seen anything from her, aside from the occasional delusion. Or what might have been assumed to be a delusion.
