‘Horizon 2’ Stunt Actress Amends Rape Scene Lawsuit With New Evidence, ‘Scathing’ Intimacy Coordinator Report
Image
“Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2” stunt actress Devyn Labella amended her sexual discrimination and harassment lawsuit against director-star Kevin Costner and his production company to add new evidence, including text messages she sent to an intimacy coordinator, regarding an allegedly unscripted rape scene she was asked to work on.

“What happened to me on that set was a reckless violation — a breach of consent and of basic workplace safety,” Labella said Wednesday in a statement to TheWrap. “I was told to lie down, and without warning or rehearsal, another actor was brought in to simulate a rape on top of me. My undergarments were exposed. I was left alone afterward, overwhelmed and in shock.

“Compliance under pressure is not consent,” she continued. “Consent cannot be given after the harm has already begun. Once the line is crossed, there is no real choice left to make. I spoke up immediately.

‘Landman’s Jacob Lofland Just Confirmed a Scary Detail About Those Season 1 Oil Rig Explosions
Image
Landman Season 2 production is firing on all cylinders right now ahead of its looming release later this year, and one of the show’s younger stars has shared an interesting detail about the first season. Starring in the role of Cooper Norris in Landman is Jacob Lofland. Cooper is Tommy’s son, who is driven to become a Landman in his own right, like his father, but he will carve out his own path to do it. Cooper watches Armando (Michael Peña) die in the first episode during an oil rig explosion, and during a recent interview with ScreenRant at the Newport Beach TV Festival, he confirmed a frightening detail about this scene (and subsequent rig explosions) that adds new context to the incidents:

"We had a week of roughneck camp to get comfortable with the wells and rigs we were working on. By the way, it’s all real.

Landman Star Confirms Season 1’s Dangerous Oil Rig Stunts Are "All Real"
Image
Landman star Jacob Lofland explained that season 1’s oil rig stunts are as real as they appear. Taylor Sheridan’s West Texas-based oil drama premiered in November 2024, introducing Billy Bob Thornton as M-tex Oil’s fixer, Tommy Norris. Lofland plays Tommy’s son, Cooper, who took after his father and worked in the West Texas oil patches in Landman season 1. Cooper takes on harrowing work hands-on, making for some of Landman season 1’s most shocking moments.

Lofland joined his co-stars Billy Bob Thornton, Ali Larter, and Andy Garcia at Newport Beach TV Fest’s Landman - Outstanding Drama Series panel. Lofland explained that the actors attended “a week of roughneck camp” to become accustomed to the equipment they were working on, adding, “By the way, it’s all real. No green screen.”Lofland credited Landman’s stunt coordinator, saying that he felt safe the entire time that he was “up...

Kevin Costner Sued Over Unscripted Assault Scene in 'Horizon 2' With No Intimacy Coordinator
Image
A stuntwoman on Kevin Costner's western epic Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 is suing the director and star, along with the film's production companies, for sexual discrimination, harassment and the creation of a hostile work environment over an alleged unscripted rape scene she was subjected to during filming in May 2023. According to the lawsuit, Devyn Labella, the lead stunt double for Ella Hunt, had to step in when Costner improvised the scene involving Hunt's character, Juliette. She claimed there was no advance notice that the violent scene was coming, she had no preparation for the scene that day, and she had not given consent. Moreover, an intimacy coordinator was not brought in per the suit, and the set was not closed off.

The "impromptu work demand" would violate both Hunt and Labella's contracts as members of SAG-AFTRA, which protect against last-minute requests for nudity or simulated sexual...

Image
Disclaimer: This article contains a description of a r*pe scene!

Kevin Costner has landed in a huge controversy after a stuntwoman sued him alongside the other producers of ‘Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 2‘. Ella Hunt plays the role of Juliette Chesney in the series. Kevin Costner’s Lawyer Cries “Shakedown” As Stuntwoman Slams Star & ‘Horizon’ Franchise Over “Violent Unscripted” Rape Scene
Image
Kevin Costner and his Horizon: An American Saga franchise are already facing legal action from New Line over a cofinancing deal, and now the star/director of the Western series has been hit with a sexual harassment suit by a veteran stuntwoman over an unscheduled, unrehearsed “violent unscripted” rape scene.

Costner’s longtime attorney Marty Singer has bluntly called “shakedown” on the unspecified damages jury trial seeking complaint from Devyn Labella.

Represented by lawyers at Hadsell Stormer Renick & Dai and Valli Kane & Vagnini, SAG-AFTRA member and Barbie alum Labella says she is filing “this action not only for the damages she has sustained, but to address the continued failures at the highest levels of Hollywood production companies to comprehend and address the impacts of performing in sexually explicit and violent ‘scenes’ and the need for intimacy coordination.”

Here’s what’s uncontested: Reunited with Horizon 2 Stunt Coordinator and Second Unit Director Wade Allen,...

When Jennifer Lopez Bruised Billy Campbell’s Ribs While Filming Enough
Image
Did Jeniifer Lopez injure Billy Campbell’s ribs? (Photo Credit – Prime Video)

Back in the early 2000s, Lopez took Hollywood by storm, headlining more than 10 films, including Enough in 2002. In the thriller, she played Slim, a charming server who married a wealthy customer, only to discover the dark side of their relationship. Opposite her, Billy Campbell stepped in as Mitch, the husband Slim eventually had to fight tooth and nail to escape. And those action scenes were just as intense behind the scenes as they looked on screen.

Campbell himself confirmed it during a red carpet interview. Describing their final clash, he said, “Hammering each other! I have to say that she got the better of me. I bruised her arm — I’m pretty sure about that. And I know for a fact she bruised my ribs. She may have separated them.” No wonder he still sounded a little in awe.

Image
Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers from Season 5, Episode 14 of “Yellowstone,” “Life Is a Promise,” which premiered Sunday, Dec. 15 on Paramount Network.

It’s been a long, dusty and bloody road for the Dutton family over the past five seasons of the massively popular Western series “Yellowstone.” As the season came to a close (before a Beth and Rip spinoff launches), viewers experienced some shocking deaths over the final few episodes — including one committed by a horse. But amid the bloodshed, there was also a sense of closure for this chaotic and influential Montana family. “Yellowstone” executive producer Christina Alexandra Voros unpacked the eventful final episode for Variety.

Do you know what the original ending would be if Kevin Costner had stayed on?

I never had a specific conversation with [creator] Taylor Sheridan about where this was going to end prior to Kevin’s departure. I do know that members of...

2023 Emmys: A closer look at ‘Barry’s’ 11 nominations for Season 4
Image
“Barry” will compete for the fourth and final time at the 2023 Emmys with its last season. The HBO tragicomedy has had a successful awards showing throughout its entire run, with star and co-showrunner Bill Hader nabbing two Emmys for acting (2018 and ’19) and Henry Winkler finally claiming his first Primetime trophy (2018). Even though Season 4 nabbed “Barry’s” lowest nomination tally at the Emmys, it still sustained double digits with 11 bids, including Best Comedy Series, as part of HBO’s total of the most noms for a network at 123. Read on for a closer look at Barry’s 11 Emmy nominations for Season 4.

In the comedy series race, “Barry” is the only HBO program competing. With 11 nominations, it is tied with Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building,” and is surpassed in sequence by Netflix’s “Wednesday” at 12, FX’s “The Bear” at 13, Amazon Prime Video’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” at 14 and...

How They Created That Wtf Sandpit Sequence in ‘Barry’ Episode 4
Image
[Editor’s note: The following story contains spoilers for “Barry.”]

You’re not alone: “Barry” stunt coordinate Wade Allen also misses the days when the HBO series was about a fucked-up hitman who wanted to be an actor. The darkness of the show’s final season has only grown alongside Bill Hader’s visual style; and Episode 4, “it takes a psycho,” required Allen, production designer Eric Schoonover, special effects supervisor Ryan Riley, and visual effects supervisor Laura Hill, to create the show’s most complex — and easily one of its most horrifying — visual gags to date. Unlike the fate of Sian Heder’s “Mega Girls” franchise, which we have to imagine the studio is locking down tight, a ton of Episode 4 spoilers below.

While Barry (Bill Hader) lurks in the shadows of Sally’s (Sarah Goldberg) apartment after escaping prison, Hank (Anthony Carrigan) disposes of his would-be crime-utopia henchmen in the cold light of day — specifically the cold light of a silo filled with sand.

13 Scary Episodes of Non-Horror TV Shows to Watch (and Rewatch), from ‘Barry’ to ‘Rick and Morty’
Image
Halloween is the season for horror, of course. But October also means fall TV is in full swing, so it’s also the season for comedy, animation, drama, and more. TV shows of all kinds honor this spooky time of year, be it through explicit celebrations of the season or more abstract explorations of dark themes like existential dread, societal corruption, and the hubris of humanity.

Instead of just binging television horror this season — “Yellowjackets” is for winter! — why not truly frighten yourself with scary episodes of (generally) non-scary shows? “Black Mirror” regularly borders on nightmarish, but falls squarely into the sci-fi category, and still one episode haunts us like the scariest movies do. “Chernobyl” recounts real-world horror, which makes it a historical drama, but we’d argue that Episode 4 is a haunting on par with Mike Flanagan’s “Hill House.” Even comedies like “Boy Meets World” and “American Vandal...

The Filmmaking of ‘Barry’ Has Evolved for Maximum Impact
Image
Curated by the IndieWire Crafts team, Craft Considerations is a platform for filmmakers to talk about recent work we believe is worthy of awards consideration. In partnership with HBO, for this edition we look at how director and star Bill Hader, cinematographer Carl Herse, and stunt coordinator Wade Allen have pushed the filmmaking of “Barry” to new heights.

Nothing could be in danger of looking more visually plain and unshow-y than the travails of wannabe actors in Los Angeles — even those who are reluctant hitmen. But “Barry” creator Bill Hader has always loved movies where “You’re in such a unique world that when it’s over, you’re stuck in that world.” Hader told IndieWire that he approaches filmmaking for the show from as cinematic a perspective he can, using image and especially sound to capture the thought processes and emotional plights of characters trapped by their own bad choices.

Emmys’ Unsung Heroes: ‘Abbott Elementary’ Camera Operators, ‘Love Is Blind’ Set Designers and More
Image
Variety shines a light on the teams you may have missed this Emmys season.

“Abbott Elementary”

Camera Operators

As fans of “The Office” know, half of the humor of a mockumentary is the camera angles, swiftly cut-ting to a reaction shot or zoom-ing in on a ridiculous moment. The cameras on ABC’s “Abbott Elementary” never miss a beat, and the operators feel like just another hilarious scene partner. — Sasha Urban

“The Great”

Food Designer

Food, sumptuous food. “The Great’s” second season served up a feast fit for royal banquets. Peter (Nicholas Hoult) and Catherine (Elle Fanning) ate their way through the Hulu show. It’s creator Tony McNamara who decides what goes on that table and production designer Francesca Di Mottola and her team who come up with the squirrels and rats and other meaty things that the cast have to eat. — Jazz Tangcay

“Legendary”

Emcee

The category is … fabulous emcees!

Bill Hader On How ‘Roma’, Blake Edwards & Andrzej Wajda Inspired The Action-Heavy Season 2 Of ‘Barry’ – Emmys
With four Emmy nominations for his work on Barry this year—comedy series, acting, writing and directing—Season 2 of the HBO series really allowed Bill Hader to show his riveting helming finesse across two episodes: “ronny/lily” and the finale “berkman/block”. In the nominated “ronny/lily”, Hader’s hitman Barry is trying to take out martial arts maven Ronny Proxin, only to be ambushed by the guy’s daughter, Lily, an 11-year-old karate dynamo. It’s a great chase sequence that begins in a smoky, blasé, suburban home, and continues onto the street and into a grocery store. It’s just one example of Hader’s many achievements.

What was the genesis for your Emmy-nominated episode “ronny/lily”? I hear a stunt coordinator recommended child actress Jessie Giacomazzi who knows plenty of karate.

Going into Season 2, we knew that we wanted Loach [John Pirruccello] to work with Fuches [Stephen Root] and corner Barry.

Bill Hader: How the ‘Barry’ Creator Found His Cinematic Voice in ‘Ronny/Lily’
Bill Hader at an event for Paul (2011)
Bill Hader hasn’t been shy about his dream of becoming a film director. One of his motivations in creating HBO’s “Barry” with Alec Berg was to leverage his value as performer in order to get an opportunity to direct a couple of episodes while guiding the visual language of the show. Yet in looking back at Season 1, Hader feels like he was far too timid in the first two episodes he directed.

“I felt like on Season 1 I didn’t do a good job of some things,” said Hader when he was a guest on IndieWire’s Filmmaker Toolkit. “When I’d look back I went, ‘Oh man, I wish I’d stuck to my guns. I saw that in a specific way and I kind of chickened out.’ Or if someone said, “Oh, don’t you want to do it this way?’ And I went, ‘Ok,’ and...

Aaron Eckhart Is Set To Go Live!
Darrin Prescott
The real-time gimmick can be a dicey proposition for filmmakers. More often than not, the result is a less-than-satisfying attempt to drum up a little extra tension at the expense of characters and story. Still, that doesn’t stop them trying, with stunt co-ordinators and second unit directors Darrin Prescott and Wade Allen hiring Aaron Eckhart to star in their switch to first unit work with Live! Grand Theft Parsons writer Jeremy Drysdale came up with the script for this one, which finds Eckhart as a disgraced cop called Kyle Penny. He’s on a mission to rescue the police commissioner’s daughter, who has been kidnapped and is being held somewhere in the city with a countdown clock of 80 minutes before she dies.If that wasn’t enough, Penny also has a deranged killer tracking him down. Philip Noyce to Remake ‘Bloodsport’
Jean-Claude Van Damme, Forest Whitaker, and Bolo Yeung in Bloodsport (1988)
Yep, the headline says what you think it says. The 1988 Jean-Claude Van Damme film Bloodsport is going to be remade, and Philip Noyce, who last directed the rather silly film Salt, is going to be behind the camera. Screen Daily says the film will follow "an American who goes to Brazil to recover from the violence he has experienced in Afghanistan who gets involved in a martial arts contest." Robert Mark Kamen (Taken, Colombiana) will write, and that's probably a good thing -- he's been through the Luc Besson action wringer, and can probably turn out a serviceable script for something like this in his sleep. In a way, this isn't even a great surprise, as a few basic martial arts movie templates are used to power a good many fight films. Bloodsport's tournament setup is one of them. But a remake of one of those templates would traditionally...

SAG Awards: Impressions from the Red Carpet
The SAG Awards sparkled. Women in beautiful dresses, perfectly accessorized; men crisply attired in suits or tuxes; and flash cameras and video everywhere—it was quite a scene. There was drama …

… and romance:

Boldface names made their way down the red carpet: the bolder the name, the faster they moved. Oops, there went Brad Pitt (Benjamin Button). Too late. But Alec Baldwin (30 Rock) did pause for a moment:

He picked up an award later that evening for male actor in a comedy series. Meanwhile, the unofficial award for cutest kids went to the ones playing adman Don Draper’s children in Mad Men. Kiernan Shipka looks sweet …

… but advised me that if she won an award (she did, as part of an ensemble), it would go next to her Tae Kwon Do trophies. Easy there tiger! Meanwhile, her cast-mate and fellow winner Aaron Hart is a handsome little fellow …

… but...
