The Dutch action-comedy Almost Cops has premiered on the Netflix streaming service, blending crime, mystery, and thriller elements within a buddy-cop format set in Rotterdam. The film’s original title, Bad Boa’s, holds a specific cultural meaning in the Netherlands that informs the premise. A “Boa,” or Buitengewoon Opsporingsambtenaar, is a Special Investigating Officer with limited police powers, tasked with handling minor infractions to support the primary police force. These officers can issue fines, check identification, and make arrests, with some authorized to carry handcuffs and batons. The title Almost Cops, chosen for the international release, directly plays on this distinction.

Spoiler Alert !!!The article contains spoilers for One Piece Episode 1130.
One Piece has several characters who can be termed as powerhouses, either for their strength or their influence on the world. Several of these powerhouses belong to a time when the world of Pirates was filled with people who would go at each other’s throats whenever they could. The Marine Hero Garp, Silvers Rayleigh, and the Yonkos Big Mom and Kaido are such people who belonged to a much more violent period. While all the above-mentioned figures are active in the main story of One Piece, not all of them have aged gracefully.
While men Garp and Rayleigh (especially Rayleigh) have maintained their muscular physique and handsome appearances, the women haven’t been able to do the same. Here are 3 females from One Piece who couldn’t age as gracefully as their contemporaries.

As reminders that ignorance, bigotry, and hate can literally kill, stories about the AIDS epidemic will always be relevant. The latest, beautiful example arrived courtesy of Chilean writer-director Diego Céspedes, whose feature debut The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo premiered in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard sidebar. Although the film may lack a narrative beat or two to fully take flight, it’s nonetheless a finely crafted, deeply affecting tribute to love and community––a piece of proudly, vitally queer art.
Set in 1982, the film takes place among a remote desert town in northern Chile. Not much goes on except at the town canteen, where miners mingle with a group of cross-dressing performers, including the charismatic Flamingo (played by Matías Catalán). Flamingo has a 12-year-old daughter, Lidia (Tamara Cortés), who’s bullied by the neighborhood boys because they claim her mother and other “perverts” from the canteen are responsible for the “Plague”––an unknown,...

Set during the dawn of the AIDS epidemic, Diego Céspedes’ gentle, funny, passionate, and occasionally absurdist debut drama packs an enormous emotional punch. Following a commune of transgender women in a north Chilean desert in 1982, “The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo” binds real-world oppression and superstition with hints of grace verging on magical realism, in a film about the capacity for love and violence contained within every human being.
As a new plague begins taking hold, rumors run wild about how prolonged eye-contact — or a loving gaze — shared with a gay man or transgender woman can lead to infection. Eleven-year-old girl Lidia (Tamara Cortés) is bullied about this by her male friends, since her mother Flamingo (Matías Catalán) is a trans woman belonging to a close-knit community of “transvestites” — one of the era-appropriate terms used by the women themselves, among several reclaimed slurs.

Okay, let’s get this straight from the beginning: Luffy and romance in One Piece? Not exactly a package deal. The guy is all about meat, freedom, and punching bad guys, and not exactly into those elegant candlelit dinners. But you know Oda, right? He’s sprinkled just enough hints over the years to get fans thinking: what if, actually, there is someone waiting for Luffy at the end of the Grand Line?
And while Boa Hancock’s hilarious obsession with Luffy has been a long-running gag, let’s be real, Luffy doesn’t even notice her that way. He’s immune to her beauty, ignores her flirting, and treats her like he treats everyone else: with chaotic politeness and zero romantic awareness. It’s funny, but it ain’t love. Now Nami? That’s a whole different vibe.

I have always loved One Piece as it is not only wonderful because of the adventure, but also the grand worldbuilding. There are an unprecedented number of characters, yet each of them seems to be unique and distinctive in their own ways, especially the key characters like Blackbeard.
Look, I actually admire Blackbeard a lot. I especially love that moment where he backs off from Akainu. The guy’s just honest. He’s got two of the most broken Devil Fruits in the One Piece world (that we know of), but even then, he knows that he’s not ready for a full-on brawl with Sakazuki.
It is not even about him winning or losing; he straight out doesn’t need to take that risk. That’s not cowardice. That’s pure self-awareness, and it’s terrifying in its own right. Usually, leaders like Blackbeard, who have a loyal crew,...

After almost 6 months of hiatus, One Piece is back with its continuation of the Egghead Arc. The series took a break with Episode 1122, which underlined major events such as the Straw Hats leaving Egghead Island and Garp being frozen by Aokiji, and so on.
In Episodes 1123 and 1124, Luffy, along with his crew, heads toward Elbaph. Things are only going to get exciting from this point onwards, or so we thought. This is mainly because of a major blunder on Toei Animation’s part that caused an uproar on the internet.

Particularly, their misrepresentation of Sanji as a sleazy character fueled more hate and stirred the pot. It had most fans throwing brickbats at the studio for their “hate” toward the character. Amid the conundrum, though, Toei animator finally spoke up, and this is what he had to say.

Devil Fruits are a pivotal part of the lore in One Piece. Ever since Luffy recklessly ate the Gomu Gomu no Mi, it was established as one of the biggest mysteries in its world. They work in strange ways and nobody knows how they came to exist, except for Vegapunk.

The Elbaph Arc of One Piece has unfolded more than enough lore onto the readers. Not only has the Sun God Nika become more relevant than ever but so has the history of this universe.
It’s gradually exposing what happened during the Void Century. The Harley and the Ancient Mural tell the tales of the past and the present. In particular, the Second World drops a major hint that the Forest God is the one who created Devil Fruits to counter the evil.

One Piece is a bestseller, a record breaker and one of the top-tier series in the shonen genre. From fights to stakes, Eiichiro Oda carefully mapped these elements in the series. But there is an aspect most fans overlook and that is female characters.

There is indeed fan service and objectification in the series, yet Oda didn’t fail to surprise us. This holds for his characterization of Nami and her growth throughout the series. Her development throughout the arcs proves why the mangaka’s female characters are beyond s**ualization.
Nami’s is a well-written character in One Piece
On a surface level, fans seem to judge and hate Nami. This is mainly because of her love for money and everything luxurious. Some went so far as to even call her a gold-digger and a money-minded character.

One of the biggest villains of the One Piece universe, Marshall D. Teach, also known as Blackbeard, has been a powerful force since the beginning of the series. He has proven himself to be a dangerous antagonist multiple times, and One Piece fans are eagerly waiting for him to battle it out with the protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy, to find out who is the strongest of the two.

It is safe to assume that Blackbeard won’t be an easy fight, and there are many reasons behind it, but the biggest one is his ability to hold more than one Devil Fruit power. As fans know, Blackbeard carries the Yami Yami no Mi and the Gura Gura no Mi, and there have been speculations about him finding a third Devil Fruit that will make him even stronger.

While the general opinion of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece is that it is a light-hearted, adventurous story, there are some dark elements that completely change the perspective of the fans towards the series. From dealing with racism to the disheartening aspects of slavery, One Piece has focused on some of the most bleak and concerning issues of the real world.

One such dark moment was witnessed during the secondary story going on at the time of Wano. While Luffy and the crew finished their battle with Kaido, the dissolution of the Seven Warlords was going on, which resulted in the Warlords being attacked by the Navy. During this commotion, Blackbeard decided to take advantage and went after Boa Hancock and her Devil Fruit.

One Piece is a unique type of Shonen that doesn’t particularly care about power-scaling as much as other manga in the genre. The series focuses more on the character arcs and emotional aspects. Eiichiro Oda knows how to deliver those notes precisely.
Luffy’s consistently selfish personality is also a vital part of One Piece. While the word “selfish” is diminishing how nuanced he is, fans need to stop pretending he doesn’t love a good reward at the end of every major arc. A feast of meat is enough to sway Luffy in their favor.

Most legendary mangaka share one trait that make the anime community dislike their works: mistreating their female characters. One Piece women might be well-written and have incredible character arcs, but only a handful have advanced Haki forms.
This is a huge flaw in Eiichiro Oda’s writing. Apart from the women having unrealistic body proportions, their lack of Haki has been downright disrespectful. The few women who have exhibited Conqueror’s Haki are Boa Hancock and Big Mom out of 1139 chapters.

One Piece still has a chance to correct this. With Ripley and Gunko’s introductions in the Elbaph Arc, we have two new candidates who we know nothing about. Considering Gunko is a God’s Knight, she has to have some form of advanced Haki, whether it’s Future Sight or Conqueror.

One thing that sets One Piece apart from every other anime and manga series is the fact that almost every character in the series has a secret goal or desire that motivates them. These goals not only give them purpose but also justify their actions be they good or bad. While some characters have easy and simple goals, others carry the burden of their most difficult desires.

The universe of One Piece, created by the celebrated author Eiichiro Oda, is in constant evolution. Throughout the years, fans of the series have learned that the story of Luffy and his friends can take a drastic turn at any given moment. Due to this, the enormous and active fandom of the series is continuously posting theories about what might happen next.

The Shonen genre has always been met with numerous criticisms for its portrayal of female characters. In many long-running Shonen series, female characters are often demoted to the roles of damsels in distress, love interests, or sources of fanservice. While series like One Piece and Naruto have their own iconic female characters, they are rarely given the same level of importance compared to their male counterparts. However, one of the notable series that defies this conventional notion is Kentaro Miura’s Berserk.

Despite its extreme gore and darkness, Berserk presents female characters who are not only vital to the story but also have rich personalities, complex motivations, and a significant impact on the world around them. Due to this aspect, Berserk is deemed to be superior to these other mainstream series.

One Piece is one of the most popular manga and anime series of all time, with many classic arcs that rank as some of the best in shonen storytelling. But how do these arcs compare with each other? It's a question that's difficult to answer due in large part to how consistent One Piece is. While arcs may vary in tone, length, and theme, most of them share the same level of quality.
With so much story to cover, it's almost assured that no two fans' list of best arcs will be exactly the same as another's. One Piece can range from heartbreaking to uplifting to outright horrific. Given this, there are so many ways to judge the strength of any given arc. Despite all this, One Piece's highest-ranked arcs are so strong because of how they succeed at their goals.

There was a palpable sense of relief surging through Eiff as it made its first fully-fledged return following a tough few years with the collapse of former parent charity the Centre for the Moving Image in 2022 threatening the future of one of the world’s longest-running festivals.

Tuesday has never been the most exciting day, but at least we get new Connections to solve. Today's categories are a nice mix of niche topics that most people should be able to solve, but there's always a chance you could get stuck on some matches that just don't match-up.
One of the best strategies for playing Connections is to utilize the 'shuffle' button right away. Oftentimes the game will try to trick your brain by putting incorrect word groupings next to each other so you waste an attempt or two trying to make them work. The shuffle button will immediately remove those specifically-placed words and can help you avoid such situations.

Per creator Eiichiro Oda's admission, romance and shipping are not huge focuses for One Piece. While the series may not thrive on the idea of "romance," that doesn't mean that there aren't signs. As the series has gone on, it teased some possible relationships between its main cast, especially for protagonist Monkey D. Luffy.
This made a lot of sense for viewers, considering that most main characters have a possible afterword for their respective series' conclusion. Additionally, fans dreamed for years about who he would be spending those after years with. As of this writing, there are two consistent prospects for Luffy's love life: the Pirate Empress, Boa Hancock, and the Straw Hats' navigator and resident Cat Burglar, Nami. Though it is currently unknown which of the two could be Luffy's Pirate Queen, both have equal arguments for why they could end up with him romantically later on.

He continued, “She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy. She is in stable condition.”
Hough extended his appreciation to the first responders and medical staff who diligently cared for Erbert, and asked for “prayers and positivity during this time.”

One Piece has continuously been releasing updates for decades. The lore it has built throughout that period has become so vast that it's difficult for weekly chapter updates to hold new information. That's where the exclusive information from the Sbs comes in.

His goal is for the Sbs corner to contain good-to-know information so that readers who miss the corner won't lose out on anything. Browsing the shelves of Our Price in the 90s, I remember seeing anime for the first time. One of the few things I miss about VHS is the larger cases that allowed for some very cool artwork, and the Manga line of releases were like nothing I’d seen before. Over the years, I ended up seeing things like Streetfighter II: The Animated Movie, Akira and Ghost in the Shell, but one that has evaded me even up to this point is Golgo 13. Having no context for these films, I had no idea that the anime version I saw on those shelves of VHS tapes was pre-dated by a live action adaptation of the manga.

The manga series the film is based on began in 1968, and still runs to this day, even after the death in 2021 of its creator Takao Saito.

Reed Hastings just made a bold claim: That Netflix is the “biggest builder of cross-European culture.”
Speaking at Netflix’s European headquarters in Amsterdam today, the streamer’s founder and Executive Chairman said an “unexpected” outcome of pushing into European originals was how series and films from one country had performed in others.
“The amazing thing has been [seeing] how many Germans or Italians watch Spanish series,” he said. “We didn’t set out to do that, but we’ve become biggest builder of cross-European culture in the EU. It’s partially because all the other networks are national networks who specialize in one language group. We specialize in connecting.”
He quipped it was “ironic it’s a U.S. company” that achieved that level of soft power. “Or a U.S. company that’s now a Dutch company,” he added.
