Lifetime: Television for (Christian) Women.

The female-focused cable channel has a new Saturday-night movies slate “centered on women facing unfathomable circumstances who use their faith to lead them through,” according to Lifetime. The four films on tap will star Chrissy Metz (This Is Us), Alexa PenaVega (Spy Kids), Kat Graham (The Vampire Diaries) and Paula Patton (Precious), respectively.

Faith in the Flames: The Nichole Jolly Story (July 19) is based on the true story of the devastating 2018 fire that ripped through Paradise, California; it stars Metz in the title role of hero nurse Jolly.

The following week (July 26) is PenaVega’s turn in Before Your Father Finds Us, the story of a woman who “must draw on her faith to hide her and her teen daughter from her violent ex-husband.” It’s a very Lifetime scenario.

On August 2, Graham’s adaptation of Terri Blackstock’s Christian suspense book Terri Blackstock’s If I Run premieres.

Exclusive: Avatar Entertainment has taken worldwide rights to the Vadhir Derbez and Elyfer Torres erotic thriller Svgs and is shopping them at the Cannes Market.

The Jorge Xolalpa-written and directed film, pronounced ‘Savages,’ follows a young couple who on the night of celebrating their anniversary, decide to test the strength of their relationship and push each other to their mental and physical limits. What was supposed to be a romantic night takes a deadly turn.

Derbez recently starred in The Seventh Day alongside Guy Pearce, as Deadline revealed in 2020, and has in the past year completed shooting for Jesse Johnson’s White Elephant starring Bruce Willis and John Malkovich and “Svgs” and shot a pilot for HBO Max’s unscripted television series From Sloppy to Papi.

The Mediapro Studio Distribution has confirmed a flurry of new sales deals on “The Head,” “Paraíso,” “Express” and “Hunting Ana Bravo” and state-of-play roll-out on the first two titles which underscores a still bullish demand for high-end titles sold on the open market at events such as last week’s MipTV.

The sales also have a bigger picture. With major studio sales to third parties plunging as they retain productions for their own platforms – Netflix carried 748 Disney titles in 2015, just 221 in 2021, according to Ampere Analysis – it’s a great time to be an independent, the consultancy’s Guy Bisson announced at MipTV. The Mediapro Studio’s latest sales details are also yet another indication of how geographical and language-targeted pay and global platform deals are driving so much of open market sales business for big independent players.

As a Netflix VP and head of international original series, Erik Barmack shaped today’s fiction TV business. He brought “Money Heist” (“La Casa de Papel”) to Netflix and spearheaded the U.S. streaming giant’s drive into local production the world over. “Dark,” “Elite” “Rain” and “Sacred Games” are some results.

Now working out of his own label, L.A.-based Wild Sheep Content, which holds down a strategic label with The Mediapro Studio, Barmack has placed some 12 series with streaming platforms. Given that, why is the doyen of international series now driving into movie production?

Pairing two of the most iconic figures on the Spanish-language business scene, actress-producer Kate del Castillo, star of Telemundo smash hit “La Reina del Sur,” is teaming with former Netflix VP Erik Barmack to produce and star in a womanhunt thriller.

Provisionally entitled “Cold, Dead Hands,” a title that may well change, the movie is set up at Del Castillo’s Cholawood Productions, Barmack’s Wild Sheep Content, both in L.A., and Park City-based Top Dead Center Films, headed by Gary and Julie Auerbach, creators of the film. Gary Auerbach (“Hampton High Revealed”) directs.

The film went into production on Jan. 4, shooting in Utah. It opens with Del Castillo’s character waking up in a log cabin in deep forest, having been drugged and abducted. A message on a stereo tells her to press “play.” “I’m a hunter,” a voice says, explaining she’s been placed there because she’s a “worthy prey.

The newly formed company will focus on creating, financing, producing, and distributing scripted content designed to thrill audiences around the world with imaginative genre content from up-and-coming talent.

AMC continues to expand its reality footprint by picking up two new unscripted series — Untitled Taxidermy Series and Venice Beach Freakshow (working title). Both series have been picked up for 8 episodes to premiere in first quarter of 2013. AMC is beefing up its unscripted slate. The cable network announced two new original series Thursday, as well as the renewal of reality foray The Pitch. The first project is an untitled competition that pits taxidermists against one another in challenges that require "both the rogue and classic schools of taxidermy." It's executive produced by Laguna Beach's Go Go Luckey Entertainment and includes a producing team of Gary Auerbach, Julie Auerbach, Tina Gazzerro and Henry Capanna. Vince Vaughn‘s Wild West Picture Show, unscripted producer Go Go Luckey Entertainment and Oxymoron Entertainment have partnered to develop and produce a new drama TV series set in the world of global private security operatives. Lawrence Konner (Magic City) will write the script. “This compelling yet secretive world we are exploring is one that most audiences don’t even know exists and we’re excited to share its rich and heroic stories,” said Vaughn, who is executive producing with Oxymoron’s CEO Christopher Mallick, Wild West Picture Show’s Peter Billingsley and Michael Lagnese and Go Go Luckey’s founders Gary Auerbach and Julie Auerbach. Exclusive: Its development and green light were surrounded by controversy, its launch was kept as quiet as possible and its short first season was exiled to the late-night 11 Pm hour. Still, MTV’s largely panned reality series The Electric Barbarellas may return for a second season. I’ve learned that there already has been some development done on a potential second season of The Electric Barbarellas, and MTV brass are now considering taking the series to the next stage of development that would lead to a Season 2 pickup. Executive produced by Gary and Julie Auerbach, the series chronicles the lives of the 5 members of all-girl pop band The Electric Barbarellas as they seek stardom. The series was allegedly the brain child of Viacom chairman Sumner Redstone who, according to reports, was smitten by the scantly-clad singers and ordered MTV executives to do a reality series about them over their objections.

Discovery Channel's "The Exorcist Files" makes huge assumptions: the devil is real and that we are in the middle of an epic war that he is waging against us. It is a battle that is being fought man against man and soul versus soul. There are only a handful of men in the world to help. They are the lay exorcists and this television series documents their true stories.

If that intro is to be believed, then humanity is screwed.

Executive producers Gary and Julie Auerbach have an interesting product, but it can be a turn off because of the heavy emphasis on religion. The Auerbachs in this show are not related to Loyd Auerbach, an author, lecturer, and frequent consultant to television networks about all things supernatural.

As for whether or not these hauntings are real, that's subject to what the viewer wants to believe.
