Jamie Lee Curtis Explains Why 2025 Is the Perfect Time to Bring ‘Freaky Friday’ Back to Theaters
Image
It’s been 22 years since Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan first swapped bodies in “Freaky Friday,” but they’re ready to do it again with a new generation in Disney’s “Freakier Friday,” out in theaters next month.

At Tuesday night’s world premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, the Oscar-winning actress explained why audiences need feel-good movies like this highly anticipated sequel to the 2003 family classic now more than ever.

“There’s math involved. You couldn’t make this movie if Lindsay didn’t have a teenage daughter, so she had to be old enough,” Curtis told TheWrap. “And there’s a nostalgia about the movie. In a time of turmoil, you cling to something nostalgic and familiar, so it’s like comfort food.”

“I think ‘Freaky Friday’ is sort of cinema comfort food: it’s satisfying, makes you feel good, makes you laugh, makes you cry.

Jamie Lee Curtis on Reuniting With Lindsay Lohan for ‘Freakier Friday,’ Her ‘The Bear’ Emmy Nom and Stephen Colbert’s ‘Late Show’ Cancellation: ‘It’s Awful’
Image
Jamie Lee Curtis says she’s learned a lot from Lindsay Lohan since reuniting for “Freakier Friday,” the much buzzed-about sequel to 2003’s “Freaky Friday.”

“She has taught me so much,” Curtis told Variety‘s Marc Malkin on Thursday at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles. “She has her team, where her two people would be standing on either side of a camera holding a big light. It’s Lindsay lighting — that would have been good branding — they hold lights so that we look better. So, I’ve learned a lot from her already. We had a good time. We love each other.”

The original movie, based on Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel of the same name, follows mother-daughter duo Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) switching bodies. The new story features a “multigenerational twist” that features Anna as a mom.

“It’s a movie for today,...

‘Freakier Friday’s Popcorn Bucket Literally Body-Swaps With Its Matching Soda Cup
Image
The collectible popcorn bucket trend has taken on a few forms. Some aim to rival the viral absurdity of Dune: Part II's sandworm design. Others stick closely to the film's theme. Then there are the intentionally inconvenient, yet clever, designs that make you wonder how they'll even function in a dark theater. Freakier Friday takes the latter route: just like the film's body-swap premise, the popcorn bucket and soda cup have switched roles.

Marcus Theatres unveiled a first look at the upcoming collectible. While the design appears simple, with standard film artwork wrapped around it, it comes with a quirky twist. The roles of the popcorn bucket and soda cup have been swapped. The soda cup is actually a popcorn container with a plastic lid. In contrast, the "popcorn bucket" is a giant soda cup topped with a plastic lid shaped like popcorn. It's a fun gimmick, but one that...

"Your snacks just had a body swap. These limited-edition Switch Collectibles for Freakier Friday are coming soon!" Marcus Theatres announced on X/Twitter alongside an image of the film's tie-in merchandise (shared below). At first glance, the popcorn bucket and drinks cup appear quite simple, with both containers sporting the franchise's signature purple and green colors as well as silhouettes of the two lead characters. However, on closer inspection, the limited-edition...

New Freakier Friday Trailer Sees Lindsay Lohan Trying to Flirt With Chad Michael Murray
Image
Disney decided to make this Friday a little freakier by dropping the official trailer for Freakier Friday. The upcoming legacy sequel reunites Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan for the first time since the original Freaky Friday in 2003.

Picking up more than two decades after Tess and Anna endured an identity crisis in Freaky Friday, the long-awaited sequel reveals that Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. Unfortunately, just as Anna wasn't too keen on her mom remarrying in the 2003 original, her daughter, Harper (Julia Butters), isn't exactly thrilled that she'll soon be step-sisters with Lily (Sophia Hammons). After Vanessa Bayer's fortune teller causes Anna, Tess, Harper, and Lily to swap bodies, the teenagers quickly hatch a scheme to ruin their parents' forthcoming wedding, which includes trying to get Anna back together with her old boyfriend Jake, played by Chad Michael Murray, which doesn't go as planned.

The stars and their characters have grown since viewers last saw them as Anna and Tess Coleman, a mom and daughter who ate fortune cookies and magically switched bodies as a result. Curtis is now an Academy Award winner, and Lohan has broken out of the child star image,...

Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once) reprises her role as Tess Coleman, and Lindsay Lohan returns as Anna Coleman. Disney has released the first trailer for Freakier Friday, and it certainly looks like it will live up to the title, with two times the body swapping. Lilo And Stitch: Disney Announces Release Date For Live-Action Remake With New Teaser Video
Image
Walt Disney Studios has announced an official release date for the live-action Lilo & Stitch movie, while sharing a brief new look at everyone's favourite blue alien scurrying across the screen in a new teaser promo

The Mouse House's latest live-action remake is set to arrive on May 23, 2025, pitting it against Paramount’s Mission: Impossible 8. In addition, Freaky Friday sequel Freakier Friday will bow on August 8, 2025.

The original animated Lilo and Stitch focused on a young Hawaiian girl named Lilo Pelekai who forms a bond with a blue alien called Experiment 626, who was engineered to be a force of destruction. It wasn't considered one of the Mouse House's bigger hits from a box office standpoint, but it remains a very popular entry in Disney's library, having spawned three direct-to-video sequels and a 2003 TV series.

‘Freakier Friday,’ Live-Action ‘Lilo & Stitch’ Set 2025 Release Dates
Image
There will be plenty of early 2000s nostalgia at movie theaters next year. Disney has set release dates for Freakier Friday and the live-action Lilo & Stitch.

Lilo & Stitch hits theaters May 23, 2025, which pits it against Paramount’s Mission: Impossible 8.

Freakier Friday will bow on Aug. 8, 2025. Warner Bros. already has a movie on that date, a Leonardo DiCaprio starrer directed by Paul Thomas Andreson.

Freakier Friday reunites Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, stars of the 2003 body-swap feature Freaky Friday. Late Night director Nisha Ganatra is behind the project, which picks up with Anna having a daughter of her own, and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. “As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover...
