Taylor Sheridan took Hollywood by surprise when “Yellowstone” quietly became one of the biggest TV hits of the last decade — The monster success of that show even convinced Paramount to reverse course on a plan to turn Paramount Network, where the neo-Western airs, into a movies-only channel.
But no one is surprised now, as Sheridan has since created a sprawling TV empire for the studio centered on Paramount+. Alongside “Yellowstone” spinoffs “1883” and “1923,” the hit Sylvester Stallone drama “Tulsa King,” Jeremy Renner’s small town noir series “Mayor of Kingstown,” the biographical drama “Lawman: Bass Reeves” starring David Oyelowo and Dennis Quaid, “Special Ops: Lioness” with Zoe Saldana and “Landman” starring Billy Bob Thornton prove Sheridan is no flash in the pan.

After a stellar second season and ending, The Night Agent season 3 is already in the works, but it might be missing one of the two main characters from the first season of the series.
In an interview with Deadline, Luciane Buchanan, who stars as Rose Larkin, revealed that she doesn't know if Rose will be part of season 3. She obviously wasn't going to spoil anything, but that's definitely concerning for Rose fans.
Spoilers ahead for The Night Agent season 2 finale!
Here's what Buchanan told Deadline when she asked about possibily returning for season 3:
"I have no idea, and I can’t spoil anything. I wish I could tell you, but Peter does say ‘No, don’t come looking for me,’ and I don’t think Rose takes well to direction; she does whatever she wants. So you never, never know."

The Night Agent season 2 debuted on Netflix less than a week ago, but it’s already racked up some serious views. The action thriller series easily became the most-watched Netflix series of the week of January 20-26, with 13.9 million views. Not too bad.
At this rate, it’s possible the second season could join the first on Netflix’s Top 10 Most Popular Shows of All Time list. The first season is currently occupying the #7 spot with 98.2 million views, standing alongside Netflix heavyweights such as Stranger Things, Bridgerton, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, and Wednesday.
The official synopsis of The Night Agent season 2reads: “Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, The Night Agent is a sophisticated, character-based, action-thriller centering on a low level FBI Agent , Peter Sutherland, whose efforts to save The President in Season 1 earn him an opportunity to become a Night Agent in Season 2. The Night Agent season 2 has officially been released on Netflix after almost two years since the breakout hit first premiered. Thankfully, after binge-watching all 10 episodes, you don't have to worry about the action thriller not coming back for another season. Netflix has already renewed The Night Agent season 3, and there's lot more exciting news about the next season.
In the second season, Peter returns as a full-fledged Night Agent embarking on his first real mission. Unfortunately, when that mission goes bad and results in the death of his partner, Peter goes Awol in an effort to figure out what went wrong and if there's a mole in Night Action. From there, the season explores a larger conspiracy that poses a major threat to American intelligence.

Gabriel Basso and Luciane Buchanan are back in The Night Agent season 2, which just premiered on Netflix on Jan. 23. And, after their characters, Peter Sutherland and Rose Larkin, saved the day in the jaw-dropping finale in The Night Agent season 1, there aren't many cast members or characters from season 1 who return for season 2.
By my unofficial count, there are only four characters who appear in season 1 and season 2: Peter, Rose, and President Michelle Travers (Kari Matchett), and one other important character that you might not have recognized.

During the Ravens vs. Texans NFL game on Christmas Day, fans got a surprise treat — the trailer for The Night Agent Season 2. After the massive success of Season 1, it looks like Peter Sutherland’s (played by Gabriel Basso) journey is far from over.
In the new season, Peter has moved up from his previous basement job, where he watched a dormant phone. He’s now part of Night Action, an ultra-secretive government organization.
Season 1 saw Peter saving the President of the United States and tackling a major conspiracy. But in the new season, things are much darker. Peter’s investigation into a CIA leak has gone wrong, and it’s clear that he can trust no one — not even Rose (Luciane Buchanan), his ally from Season 1. The stakes are even higher now as Peter faces threats from all sides.

Viewers of the Ravens vs. Texans NFL game got a surprise on Christmas Day: A trailer for Netflix’s “The Night Agent” Season 2.
Gone are the tedious days of Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) sitting next to a dormant phone in the White House basement — and nigh is the day for Night Action now that he’s finally part of the ultra-confidential organization. After successfully saving the President of the United States in Season 1, Peter was tasked with investigating a leak in the C.I.A., but in the Season 2 trailer, his operation appears to have been compromised, and Peter trusts no one — not even Rose (Luciane Buchanan), and certainly not Night Action itself. Season 2 will pick up shortly after Season 1 and is based on the novel by Matthew Quirk.

Night Agent is returning with season two and in the new trailer (below) that dropped on Christmas, Gabriel Basso‘s Peter Sutherland is on the run.
The Sony Pictures TV and Shawn Ryan conspiracy series that was a mega-hit for Netflix in 2023 returns after almost two years with season two on Jan. 23, 2025. Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, The Night Agent‘s first season centered on Peter as a low-level FBI agent answering overnight calls for the secretive White House organization called Night Action. His heroic efforts (he saved the president) earned him a promotion to Night Agent by the end of the season. But, as the trailer shows, a mission outside of Washington, D.C. now puts a target on his back once again.
The trailer for the 10-episode new season dropped — literally — during the NFL’s Ravens vs. Texans Christmas game that aired live on Netflix.

Lioness star Zoe Saldaña pitches an intriguing idea for a prequel as the wait for season 3 continues. Though it ended on a divisive note, the second installment of the Paramount+ drama broke new ground. Saldaña, Laysla De Oliveira, Nicole Kidman, Michael Kelly, and Morgan Freeman were among the returning Lioness cast. Joined by newcomer Genesis Rodriguez, there are some hopeful signs that a renewal for season 3 maybe imminent.
In an interview with Deadline, to discuss her myriad of upcoming projects, including the next Avatar sequel, Saldaña touched on the future of Lioness and shared a thoughtful idea for a prequel. Lioness is among the shows created by Taylor Sheridan. And, like the hit Western drama, the recent Golden Globe nominee mentioned that she would be interested in a prequel focused on her character Joe, and how Joe came to meet Kidman's character, Kaitlyn. [This story contains spoilers from the season two finale of Lioness.]
The second season of Taylor Sheridan’s CIA operative series Lioness ended with a bang on several fronts.
The finale of the Paramount+ series starring Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, Dave Annable, Michael Kelly and Morgan Freeman pulled no punches when the U.S. Secretary of State (Freeman) gave Deputy Director of the CIA Byron Westfield (Kelly) the authority to do a special ops mission with the CIA-led Quick Reaction Force team (Qrf) Lioness team off the Turkey/Iranian border. Intel suggested the Iranians were planning to smuggle in two Chinese scientists to help with their nuclear program. American intelligence agencies already knew that the Chinese took part in having a Mexican cartel kidnap a U.S. congresswoman — taking her across the border and executing her family. It was time for some payback.

Every season, Netflix’s hit action-thriller The Night Agent introduces a new story and new characters around title character Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), who has been accompanied so far by Luciane Buchanan’s Rose Larkin. Season 3 is shaping up to introduce the highest-profile new cast, with three new series regulars who have led their own shows, David Lyons, Jennifer Morrison and Stephen Moyer.
They join fellow new series regulars Genesis Rodriguez (Lioness), whose pending casting was revealed last month, and child actor Callum Vinson (Chucky). Additionally, Suraj Sharma (How I Met Your Father) has been tapped as recurring.

The Night Agent received an early season 3 renewal last month, and the cast is already coming together. Genesis Rodriguez is now in talks to join the new season of The Night Agent in a series regular role.
Details on her role are being kept under wraps, but The Night Agent season 3 is slated to start shooting in Istanbul at the end of the year and continue in New York in early 2025. Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, The Night Agent is “a sophisticated, character-based, action-thriller centering on a low level FBI Agent who works in the basement of the White House, manning a phone that never rings — until the night that it does, propelling him into a fast moving and dangerous conspiracy that ultimately leads all the way to the Oval Office.” The series stars Gabriel Basso, Luciane Buchanan, Hong Chau, D.B. Woodside, Eve Harlow, Sarah Desjardins, and more.

Netflix’s The Night Agent is looking to boost its ranks.
Genesis Rodriguez (Lioness) is in talks to join the espionage drama for its third season. Netflix has already greenlit a third installment of one of its most popular shows, which stars Gabriel Basso as a low-level FBI agent who’s thrust into a far-reaching conspiracy.
Rodriguez is set to be a regular on season three, which is set to begin filming soon in Istanbul and continue in New York early next year. Details on her role are being kept quiet for now.
Netflix declined comment.
Season two of The Night Agent, meanwhile, is scheduled to premiere Jan. 23. It will find Peter Sutherland (Basso) getting a chance to work as a Night Agent after his actions in season one. But working in the secretive organization of Night Action propels him into a world where danger is everywhere and trust is in short supply.

Lioness, the hit Paramount+ series from creator Taylor Sheridan, follows the exploits of its eponymous figure, a deep-cover elite agent with a job to expose and eliminate America's enemies. Zoe Saldaa plays the project's CIA leader, while Nicole Kidman plays her boss, an even higher-ranked CIA agent who has to deal with the political risks and ramifications of the work done by the Lioness program. Season 1 featured Laysla de Oliveira as a Marine who is brought in to take down a Middle Eastern terrorist financier. For Season 2, Genesis Rodriguez stars as Captain Josephina Carrillo, an Army helicopter pilot who is brought into the fold to help take down the leader of a Mexican drug cartel... Who just happens to be her own uncle.

After a successful debut season, Lioness is back for season 2 on Paramount+. Season 1 starred Laysla de Oliveira as Cruz, the eponymous Lioness, an undercover agent assigned to lure high-value targets out into the open where they can be eliminated with more efficiency and certainty than, say, a drone strike. The program is run by Joe (Zoe Saldaa), who in turn reports to Kaitlyn Meade (Nicole Kidman).
Lioness season 2 sees a new recruit (Genesis Rodriguez) brought in for a dangerous mission involving drug cartels on the Mexico/USA border, which lends the series something of an anthology vibe. But despite not appearing in the first several episodes of the season, Laysla de Oliveira is still featured and named in the show's opening credits sequence. Thus, it was only a matter of time before she appeared in Lioness' sophomore season, an appearance that finally occurred in the fourth episode, "Five Hundred Children.

Lioness, the hit Paramount+ military drama from creator Taylor Sheridan, stars Zoe Saldaa as Joe, a CIA agent in charge of the eponymous Lioness program, which places undercover operators in a position adjacent to dangerous targets with the ultimate goal of eliminating some of America's most dangerous enemies. Season 1, set primarily in the Middle East, featured Laysla De Oliveira as the titular Lioness. For the show's sophomore outing, the setting shifts to the United States/Mexico border, with Joe's latest Lioness candidate (played by Genesis Rodriguez), who is forced to go rogue in order to infiltrate a powerful drug cartel run by her own estranged family.

While Taylor Sheridan's contribution to Lioness cannot be understated, as he's the creator, executive producer, showrunner, writer, and director of the series, Sheridan's role somehow gets even greater in season 2. The spy thriller TV show is one of many that Sheridan has created for Paramount in the past eight years, following in the footsteps of Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown, and more. Like most of his series, Lioness has been a massive success for the filmmaker, which might be why Sheridan fully immersed himself in season 2's production.
The Paramount+ TV show's title changed from Special Ops: Lioness in season 1 to just Lioness in season 2.
The cast of Lioness includes Zoe Saldaa as Joe, Laysla De Oliveira as Cruz, Dave Annable as Neal, Nicole Kidman as Kaitlyn, Morgan Freeman as Mullins, Genesis Rodriguez as Josephina Carrillo, and many more.

Paramount+'s Special Ops: Lioness contains a talented and distinguished cast, ranging from Academy Award winners to an actress who has starred in four of the highest-grossing movies of all time. The spy thriller TV show comes from the mind of Taylor Sheridan, who is most known for creating Yellowstone and all its spinoffs. However, Sheridan branched out from the neo-Western drama when Special Ops: Lioness debuted in July 2023, and it was a hit for Paramount+ (despite receiving mixed reviews from critics). As a result, the platform renewed it for a second season, which premieres in October 2024.
Paramount+ changed the show's title from Special Ops: Lioness to just Lioness in season 2.
The spy thriller series revolves around the CIA's Lioness program, which Special Ops: Lioness bases on a real military task force now defunct. The CIA recruits a female operative to infiltrate terrorist organizations or other groups that...

Paramount+’s Lioness may have shed its “Special Ops”: prefix for Season 2, but it made significant gains everywhere else.
Simply said, the Zoe Saldaña-led spy thriller’s sophomore run is fantastic, and stands as one of the year’s best TV shows. The only thing keeping it from an “A+” grade is that at times it gets so into the weeds of intelligence gathering and hair-trigger geopolitical issues, it can be a bit hard to follow. But if that is your jam (as it is mine), a rip-roaring thrill ride awaits.

Is Nicole Kidman the hardest working person in Hollywood at the moment?
In the last year or so, Nicole Kidman has starred in “A Family Affair” and “Babygirl.” On the TV side, she starred in “Expats” and “The Perfect Couple” and returns to Taylor Sheridan’s “Lioness” for its second season, launching on Paramount+ on Oct. 27.
At the same time, she’ll be seen in Season 2 of the Hulu series “Nine Perfect Strangers,” the animated movie “Spellbound and the thriller “Holland, Michigan.” She also plays the title role in “Scarpetta,” Amazon’s upcoming series adaptation of Patricia Cornwell’s mystery books, opposite Jamie Lee Curtis and Ariana DeBose. She’s hoping to get a third season of “Big Little Lies” off the ground as well as a sequel to “Practical Magic.”
Even so, Kidman says she does actually find time to sleep. “I slept nine hours last night,” she told...

In a career filled with so many, Nicole Kidman is on another hot streak.
The Oscar-winner picked up a best actress prize last month at the Venice Film Festival for her critically acclaimed turn in Halina Reijn’s steamy Babygirl, only to see her new Netflix series The Perfect Couple rocket to the No. 1 spot on the streaming rankings days later. She next stars in the second season of Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount+ series Lioness, which debuts Sunday, and she’s just about to jump in front of cameras on Amazon Studios’ Scarpetta opposite fellow Oscar winners Jamie Lee Curtis and Ariana DeBose and based on the Patricia Cornwell novel.
So, how is Kidman feeling about all the good work right about now? It’s complicated. “I wish my mama was here,” she told The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday night while walking the red carpet at Hollywood’s Linwood Dunn Theatre.
