A couple of weeks ago, the Peacock streaming service announced that they had cancelled the James Wan-produced series Teacup after just one season. Now, another one bites the dust. Written and executive produced by Matthew Scott Kane, Hysteria! explored America’s dark history of mass hysteria through the shocking story of the teenage Satanic Panic. The series follows a group of 1980s high school misfits as they exploit the growing hysteria around teen occult activity. We feared this day would come, and now it’s finally here. A new horror series that premiered last year has been axed, and it didn't deserve to meet such an untimely end. It had such potential, and it sucks that we won’t get to see where the story could have gone. Sadly, Peacock has pulled the plug on the horror comedy Hysteria! after only one season, and now fans are left to mourn what could have been.
This disappointing news comes only a month after it was revealed that Peacock had canceled another one of its new horror shows from last year. It was the sci-fi horror Teacup. The streaming giant has never come out and shared why it decided to cancel this series, but low viewership is believed to have played a significant role in the decision. While Peacock hasn't given an official reason for Hysteria!'s cancellation either,...

Peacock continues its cancellation streak with its coming-of-age Satanic Panic thriller series “Hysteria!” after one season, Variety reports. The news arrives just weeks after the streamer canceled sci-fi horror series “Teacup“.

Written and executive produced by Matthew Scott Kane (Stitchers) and David Goodman (The Orville), “Hysteria!” highlights America’s dark history of mass hysteria through ’80s Satanic Panic. Peacock is not proceeding with a second season of thriller drama Hysteria!, Deadline has confirmed. The news comes 3½ months after the eight-episode first season was released as a binge drop on October 18.
It is not surprising as the series starring Julie Bowen and Anna Camp didn’t manage to make noise like other recent Peacock entries, including The Day Of the Jackal and Apples Never Fall. The decision follows the recent cancellation of another Peacock October release, horror drama Teacup.

The Peacock horror thriller series “Hysteria!” has been canceled after just one season, Variety has learned exclusively.
The show aired its one and only season at the streamer in October 2024. It had originally been ordered to series in August 2022 and began production in 2023, but was forced to shut down after filming just a few episodes due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes. It eventually resumed production in late 2023.
Peacock does not release viewership data for its shows, so it is difficult to gauge exactly how many people watched “Hysteria!” However, the show did not make an appearance on the weekly Nielsen Top 10 streaming charts upon its release. It was well-received by critics though, holding a 91% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The official series description states:

According to a Smallville writer, the Superman show almost had an episode centered around a female Justice League made up of several powerful superheroes previously introduced throughout the DC series. Smallville ran through ten seasons from 2001 to 2011, following Tom Welling's young Clark Kent as he adapted to his powers and the increasingly dangerous world around him. Although Smallville was conceived as a Superman prequel show, it covered a big part of the Man of Steel's DC lore, with entire arcs focusing on some of his most famous storylines, villains, and supporting characters from the comics.

Smallville originally planned to include a female-led Justice League episode in the series' final season. One of the writers even breaks down who would have made up the team. Smallville debuted in October 2001 on The WB and reimagined the Superman mythology for the 21st century. The series ran for ten seasons, transitioning from The WB to The CW, and featured many other DC characters, including Green Arrow, Aquaman, Cyborg, and many more. Season 6 introduced the show's version of The Justice League, and it appeared the series planned to feature an all-female version of the super team in its final season.

Smallville almost introduced an entirely different version of the show's Justice League in its tenth and final season. Bryan Q. Miller, who was a writer and story editor on The CW series, recently opened up about the idea behind the scrapped episode.
Miller shared the plans for the scrapped "female Justice League" episode during a recent appearance on the Super House of El podcast (via KryptonSite). The episode would have seen main character Lois Lane (Erica Durance) teaming up with previous guest stars Kara Kent (Laura Vandervoort), Zatanna (Serinda Swan), and Jayna (Allison Scagliotti) of the Wonder Twins to save the day. "Being able to put those characters together that we had played with individually was a lot of fun, and it went away," Miller recalled.

Smallville remains one of the most beloved comic book TV shows ever made and, for many DC fans, Tom Welling is their Man of Steel and Michael Rosenbaum is the Lex Luthor. There were also several strong female leads, a surprise given when the show was produced.
Smallville had a lengthy run, kicking off in 2001 before wrapping up in 2011 following a memorable 10 seasons (which somehow didn't see Clark Kent take flight and suit up until the final episode). Still, fans were left eager for more and eventually got a comic book sequel detailing the hero's early adventures as Superman.
There never were any spin-offs - it's easy to imagine things being different had the show been produced today - but we did come close to seeing an episode revolving around a "female Justice League."

Drake Bell has an idea for a “Drake & Josh” reboot inspired by “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
In an interview on the “Beyond the Velvet Rope” podcast, Bell said he would be more than willing to reunite with his former co-star Josh Peck for some sort of reboot, noting that his “dream” would be to emulate Larry David’s Emmy-winning sitcom.
“I have a really special place in my heart for ‘Drake & Josh’ and I would love to revisit the character. I’d love to revisit something with Josh,” Bell said. “My dream is to do something kind of like ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm,’ where we’re playing ourselves but trying to navigate life today.”

Some sci-fi TV shows have gotten even better with time and make for a great re-watch. One of the most entertaining things about watching an older sci-fi show or movie is to see how they envisage the future. Back to the Future has proved that self-tying shoes and flying cars may not be one of humanity's top priorities, but watching a show about the future, made in the past, can be both frightening and hilarious.
Viewers have also always been curious about discovering other planets or alternate realities. Some series tend to tackle the subject with care and trepidation, while others focus on a more lighthearted approach. But, the true beauty of the best sci-fi shows is embracing all the suspension of disbelief that the genre so graciously offers. While some classics like Star Trek don't even need to be mentioned, some relatively old shows from the last 20 years or so shouldn't be forgotten either.

There are several incredible sci-fi shows that see long runs on television, airing without seeing a single bad season. This is in stark contrast to the trend that seems to be developing more and more as of late, where sci-fi shows that don't deserve to be canceled are prematurely ended, and other underappreciated sci-fi shows never get the recognition they deserve. Although some long-running sci-fi shows like Doctor Who have been panned in recent years for poorly written seasons, many sci-fi shows with five seasons or more retain a consistent standard.
Though there are many incredible sci-fi movies set to release in 2025, sometimes a sci-fi TV show with plenty of episodes is exactly what a viewer needs. It is rare to find a series that truly has no bad seasons, remaining of a certain quality all the way through. With so many quality seasons to keep one busy, shows like...

Peacock's Hysteria! explores real-life fears alongside supernatural terrors, leaving audiences guessing what is and isn't real. But that was the goal of creator and showrunner Matthew Scott Kane and producer David A. Goodman, who melded their talents to develop a TV show which is equal parts nostalgic and modern. What happens in this small town will appeal to horror fans both old and new.
Cbr sat down with Kane and Goodman to explore if they had any personal experiences with the Satanic Panic that helped form the idea for Hysteria! and how they feel it never really left. The producers discuss the many influences that helped make Hysteria! feel familiar, even though the show has a unique idea that hasn't been seen before. How did they break new ground utilizing infamous history?
Cbr: Hysteria! takes place during a very specific time in history, when the unknown ruled the masses and created fear.

With all eyes suddenly on Peacocks new horror thriller Hysteria!, series star and Evil Dead legend Bruce Campbell recently told MovieWeb that the eight-episode ride is, creepy as hell, but cool. The icon is definitely spot on.
Set in the 1980s, showrunner Matthew Scott Kanes tale revolves around the residents of a small town braving the Satanic Panic. Led by a solid ensemble cast featuring Julie Bowen (Modern Family), Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect), Nikki Hahn (Adventures in Babysitting), and others, the series packs in plenty of mystery, fright, and a gaggle of absurdity along the way, of which, Campbell noted:
Look, every time you talk about the possibility that the S-word that Satan might actually be real it's enough to install terror into the hearts of most Americans. If you're a God-fearing person, you don't want to hear that there might be something happening in your town that you can't...

An 80s-set horror story that doesn't feel like it's focused on nostalgia, Hysteria! has a great cast with great chemistry, and it really does a great job of building up its characters, including its supporting cast, which features Bruce Campbell as the chief of police in a town where satanic panic takes hold. Peacock‘s coming-of-age thriller series “Hysteria!” is set to tackle the era of Satanic Panic, with heavy metal and actual Satanism sowing generational division in a small conservative town in Michigan. And what’s Michigan horror without actor Bruce Campbell?
The actor guest stars as Chief Dandridge in the series, set to premiere all episodes on Friday, October 18, 2024.
“Hysteria!” follows a group of 1980s high school misfits as they exploit the growing hysteria around teen occult activity, written and executive produced by Matthew Scott Kane (Stitchers) and David Goodman (The Orville). Caught in the middle of the mounting tension between adults and teens is Campbell’s police chief.
Unlike his most iconic character, Ash Williams, Chief Dandridge prefers logic and science. Though he isn’t your typical small-town police chief. That’s because he treats the teens with respect and compassion, a far cry from the typical parents in suburban set ’80s horror.

I don't know if it's just because I'm really missing the show or there's more to it, but watching the Hysteria! on Peacock trailer is just giving me Stranger Things vibes and I'm so here for it. And though the Netflix series is already dark, this one looks to be even darker. So I think that if you're a fellow Stranger Things fan like me, you'll want to check out Hysteria! too!
The new horror thriller premieres Friday, Oct. 18, 2024 with all 8 episodes on Peacock. That's right, it's going to be a binge-watch. I personally think these episodes should have had more of a weekly release instead. But, that's what the streamer wants I guess. We shared the trailer below:
Do you see what I mean? Just the sets and being in the '80s time period is giving off Stranger Things, for sure. The two shows have a very similar look to them.

Peacock’s upcoming series Hysteria! shows a town in the grips of a Satanic Panic — emphasis on the “satanic” part.
The streamer has released a full trailer for the show, which premieres Oct. 18 and centers on three high schoolers (Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia and Kezii Curtis) whose heavy-metal band decides to lean into the fear caused when the high school quarterback goes missing and a pentagram is painted on the teen’s garage. Their makeover as satanists, however, unleashes forces — both among their peers and, possibly, with something otherworldly — that soon spin out of their control.
The trailer — which greatly expands on an earlier teaser — also shows a teenage girl (Nikki Hahn) being abducted by a creepy masked intruder and a woman (Julie Bowen) being stalked by an unseen entity. Watch it below.
The show’s regular cast also includes Anna Camp, horror icon Bruce Campbell, Garret Dillahunt, Nolan North,...

Julie Bowen is returning to TV in Peacock’s “Hysteria!” and things are getting spooky, that is, if they’re even real.
In the teaser for “Hysteria!,” released Monday, the “Modern Family” star goes about her day cooking and cleaning as a 1980s housewife until a strange interruption causes the lights to flicker and her house to shake.
By the time the event stops, Bowen thinks she’s in the clear — until she spots the face of a demon in her microwave, which proceeds to splatter into red globs.
The new series, which also stars Anna Camp (“Pitch Perfect”) and Bruce Campbell (“The Evil Dead,” “Army of Darkness”), will debut on Friday, Oct. 18, on Peacock, USA Network and Syfy. Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead franchise is getting an animated series, it’s been confirmed. Here are a few more details of what’s coming.
The Evil Dead franchise is having a rennaisance thanks to Lee Cronin’s successful 2023 entry Evil Dead Rise. Earlier this year, Sébastien Vaniček was attached to direct and co-write a new spin-off film. Francis Galluppi wil write and direct the next Evil Dead film.

They are Garret Dillahunt (The Last House on the Left remake), Nolan North (Pretty Little Liars), Elijah Richardson (Fantasy Football), Milly Shapiro (Hereditary), Allison Scagliotti (Warehouse 13), and Jessica Treska (Alex & Me). Kj Apa, known for his role as Archie Andrews on Riverdale, was originally set to star in the canceled Wonder Twins movie but could potentially be cast as Wally West, a.k.a. The Flash, in James Gunn's upcoming DC Universe franchise. James Gunn is known for using obscure comic book characters in his projects, which could mean that the Wonder Twins, Zan and Jayna, might have a chance of getting retooled as a movie or TV show within the DC Universe. While the Wonder Twins may not be part of the current slate of projects for the new DC Universe, there is a possibility that they could be featured in future chapters, as stated by the DC Studios co-CEOs. The exact plans for the Wonder Twins in the new DC Universe remain uncertain for now.

HBO Max will not be activating The Wonder Twins‘ powers after all.
A made-for-streaming movie based on the iconic DC Comics duo is no longer in development, our sister publication Variety reports. Though a lot factored into the decision to cancel the project, budget was reportedly the principal concern; its 75 million price tag didn’t jive with Discovery CEO David Zaslav’s plan to eliminated 3 billion in costs following the company’s merger with Warner Bros.
