2025 hasn't exactly been filled with new horror TV shows yet, but with the upcoming Alien: Earth series and the release of It: Welcome to Derry, the genre promises to thrive on the small screen in the latter half of the year. That being said, there is one recently released gem that has flown largely under the radar that's dominating streaming, and if you're a fan of shows that pay homage to the classics while at the same time delivering a fresh take on some old tropes, Hell Motel is definitely for you.
Hitting AMC+ and Shudder on June 17, 2025, Hell Motel comes by way of the creators of the anthology horror series, Slasher. Set in the fictional Cold River Motel, the show follows 10 true crime obsessives who are invited to the opening weekend of the newly renovated setting, which is also the site of a 30-year-old unsolved Satanic Mass Murder. The general public, by and large, doesn’t just love murder — they’re obsessed with it. Society’s fascination with twisted crimes and the psychology, mystery, and suspense that surrounds the compulsion to solve them is only natural. People seek closure because it can perhaps make sense of something that’s otherwise irrational. This obsession is nothing new, but what is a more recent development is how true crime and murder mysteries have slowly infected pop culture far beyond the reaches of the horror genre. This allows horror even more leeway when it comes to stories that embrace and subvert these trending tropes.
Hell Motel is a blunt, brutal, and bloody slasher series that’s right at home with the visceral nature of Friday the 13th and Halloween, while also riffing on true crime, the murky ethics that surround its sensationalization, and also humanity’s inherent need for answers and understanding.

Keke Palmers best roles include some fine distinctions in genre which have taken her from Disney Channel to one of Jordan Peeles best movies. Her fans might identify some common themes throughout her career, but each one of her performances stands out as something unique. She can play a peppy schoolgirl who is a perfect team player or a tough-as-nails young woman who works best alone. Palmer has delivered in movies that are thrilling, shocking, and enlightening, working with some of the best in the industry.
Palmer also has amazing vocals and some voice-acting talent, allowing her to explore more subgenres. She is also widely known for some TV roles, namely Zayday Williams from Scream Queens. I have an opinion: "Slasher" is better than "American Horror Story."
Maybe that's not so controversial to say in 2023, when the popular horror anthology series created by Ryan Murphy hasn't had a good season in almost five years, and hasn't had a great one in over 10. "AHS" premiered in 2011, the same year that the sci-fi/technology-run-amok anthology series "Black Mirror" premiered. Curiously, though "Black Mirror" was just as popular, and was covered as furiously as "AHS" was in its prime, its influence on subsequent sci-fi visions seems to have jumped mediums to film. One can imagine pressing play on a new season of "Black Mirror" and watching films like "Ex-Machina," "The Circle," and "Vivarium," were a few minutes shaved off each.
"AHS," however, spawned a veritable renaissance in horror anthology series, from HBO's "Room 104," to Hulu's "Castle Rock," to Syfy's "Channel Zero." Before "AHS," you'd have to...

The latest chapter of Slasher is well underway.
On Slasher: Ripper Episode 3, Basil (Eric McCormack) is on a mission to unmask the Widow.
In doing so, he realizes that someone from his rich inner circle might be responsible.
If the Widow taught us anything in the first two episodes of this Shudder and AMC+ drama, they are ready to dole out justice towards the elite.
As a result, people are dropping like flies, and it looks like Basil and his powerful friends are harboring a fateful secret about an event several years before.
In an exclusive clip shared with TV Fanatic, we see the extent Basil is willing to go to get answers.
He's not the nicest person, but he strikes me as the kind of person who will find answers easier than some other characters.

It's been a while since we've had a good horror series to capture our attention.
Our wait will soon be over, as Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service for horror, thrillers and the supernatural, released a new trailer today, and it's pretty juicy!
The long-awaited return of a successful franchise is only weeks away with the arrival of Slasher: Ripper.
Slasher: Ripper debuts with a two-episode premiere on Thursday, April 6 on Shudder and AMC+ with new episodes rolling out weekly on Thursdays.
Slasher: Ripper takes the franchise back in time to the late 19th century.
It follows Basil Garvey, a charismatic tycoon whose success is only rivaled by his ruthlessness, as he oversees a city on the cusp of a new century, and a social upheaval that will see its streets run red with blood.
There’s a killer stalking the mean streets, but instead of targeting the poor and downtrodden like Jack the Ripper,...

If you care to complete the above sentence after you’ve watched this, you’ll doubtless be scribbling superlatives because From the Vine is as entertaining as much as it is eccentric yet easy-going.
It’s hard to imagine a more deserved screening at Devour! The Food Film Fest, which is where it made its North American premiere in 2019 – not since Silence of the Lambs has Italian wine has been used to such effect on-screen.
Based on the little-known Kenneth Canio Cancellara novel, Finding Marco, Marco Gentile (Joe Pantoliano) is a Toronto high-flyer who seems to have it all – or does he? Cue a mid-life crisis with a difference, much to the consternation of his wife Marina (Wendy Crewson) and daughter Laura (Paula Brancati).
Although the movie is set predominantly in Acerenza, a small town in the Basilicata region, it’s a joint Canadian-Italian production, so getting the linguistic balance...

Shudder has revealed the air date of Slasher: Flesh and Blood, which they announced late last year as the fourth installment in the horror series that started in 2016.
The horror streaming platform will exclusively show the series in the US as well as Australia and New Zealand on August 12th, 2021, according to Rue Morgue. The first two episodes of the new series will be premiered on the same day, with new additions each week as is becoming more frequent with streaming services who don't want people to simply binge-watch a new series and move on.
The plot of the new series is "like Knives Out done by John Carpenter", according to Shudder's Craig Engler. The story takes place on a secluded island, where the members of a wealthy but dysfunctional family have gathered for a reunion. In short order, long-forgotten rivalries and past heartaches come back to haunt them, and then,...

The movie, written by Willem Wennekers, and adapted from Ken Cancellara’s novel Finding Marco, follows Mark Gentile (Joe Pantoliano), an attorney and automotive company executive, who travels to Italy after a major humiliation in business. He returns to the tiny village of Acerenza, visiting the vineyard where he grew up and finds it in a state of disrepair. Mark gets an idea to bring the overgrown property back to life and start producing wine again. Mark convinces various denizens of Acerenza, each with their own comedic personality, to aid him in this seemingly impractical effort, promising everyone a share in the business if it is successful. Concerned about his sudden and lengthy trip, Mark is joined by his wife Marina, and his twenty-something daughter, Laura,...

"If you build this vineyard in honour of your grandfather, it can become everyone's dream." Indiecan Ent. has released an official trailer for an indie drama titled From the Vine, adapted from the novel "Finding Marco" by Kenneth Canio Cancellara. This played at the Ischia Global Film & Music Fest in Italy last year, and also stopped by the Napa Valley and Naples Film Festivals. The story follows a man who has an "ethical crisis" and returns to his hometown in rural Italy, where he finds new purpose reviving his grandfather's old vineyard, and figuring out a sustainable future for the small town nearby. Joe Pantoliano stars as Marco, with a cast including Paula Brancati, Marco Leonardi, Wendy Crewson, Tony Nardi, Tony Nappo, Franco Lo Presti, and Kevin Hanchard. This looks mostly harmless and drunk-on-wine fun, but it gets weird when the moon starts talkin'. This plays like an amusing Italy...
