‘Daredevil’ Reboot Called Out as ‘Old Disney Scam’ by Showrunner of Original Netflix Series
Steven S. DeKnight
Steven DeKnight, known for the Netflix version of “Daredevil” and “Jupiter’s Legacy,” has called Disney+’s upcoming reboot of the superhero drama an “old Disney scam.”

In 2022, it was announced that Disney+ would be moving forward with its own Daredevil series, titled “Daredevil: Born Again.” Though the series will see Charlie Cox reprise his role as the blind superhero, it will largely involve a different creative team than the one behind the Netflix original.

“It’s an old Disney scam where they slightly rename a series to reset contract terms back to first season. Needs to be addressed by all the guilds/unions and crushed!” DeKnight wrote on X.

The filmmaker’s post was part of a conversation about HBO’s recent cancelation of “Winning Time.” In response to the news that the series was cancelled after its second season, a NYC-based IATSE grip asked if he had to “post...

John Cena is also along for the ride in what is called an action-comedy. Hidden Strike takes place in the near future where Cena and Chan play two former special forces veterans paired up on a mission to escort some people over the "Highway of Death," which passes through Baghdad and is supposed to be one of the world's deadliest roadways. They then have to battle oil thieves, led by none other than Game of Thrones actor Pilou Asbaek.

There isn't much known about the Hidden Strike cast other than the three leads, but there are a few other recognizable faces who joined on to play mostly unknown roles. As for the main characters,...

Writers Get Creative With Picket Signs: “Ted Sarandos Is An Herb” & “Let Them Drink Dom” – Update
Image
Updated, Day 46: After visiting many, many picket lines over the last month, we’ve learned that lots of pickets signs are reused for conservation purposes. And to that we say — screw the recycling. Bring on more of those sweet corporate burns!

Fortunately, many of the scribes haven’t lost their saucy touch.

“Let them drink Dom,” says one Zaslav-themed confection.

“Ted Sarandos ate my son,” says another.

Quinta Brunson Claps Back at Education Executive Who Came for Her School Record: ‘You’re Wrong and Bad at Research’
Sheryl Lee Ralph, Lisa Ann Walter, William Stanford Davis, Tyler James Williams, Chris Perfetti, Quinta Brunson, and Janelle James in Abbott Elementary (2021)
“Abbott Elementary” creator Quinta Brunson clapped back Thursday at an education executive who was promoting incorrect information about her schooling history.

Jeanne Allen, CEO of the Center for Education Reform, called Brunson out on Twitter, claiming that she only attended charter schools for her entire education. The incorrect claim additionally implied that exploring charter schools’ relationship to public schooling in Philadelphia, as “Abbott Elementary” does, is not best left to the series’ creator.

“I’ll share it again. The creator, lead writer and co-producer of @AbbottElemABC @quintabrunson is from West Philly and attended charter schools her entire education,” Allen wrote on Twitter. “She reportedly loved it at the time, heaped praise on it. Once upon a time. Guess money talks.”

Jk Rowling: What the ‘new Strike TV adaptation’ The Ink Black Heart is about and why it’s controversial
Image
The BBC is reportedly preparing to renew its crime drama Strike, based on the books written by Jk Rowling under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.

Season six – which is yet to be confirmed by the corporation – would adapt The Ink Black Heart, the sixth novel in the detective series.

It would likely see Tom Burke reprise his role as the gruff private investigator Cormoran Strike, alongside Holliday Grainger as his sidekick Robin Ellacott.

The Ink Black Heart, published in August 2022, involves a storyline about a woman who is killed after being accused of transphobia.

In recent years, Rowling has made headlines for sharing her controversial views on transgender rights. She was first met with a backlash in June 2020 after calling out an article’s use of the phrase “people who menstruate”.

Since then, Rowling has repeatedly come under criticism for various comments, which many have accused of being transphobic.

Rowling has...

Casting Mr. Freeze For The Dcu
Image
The new Dcu offers new opportunities for DC's greatest characters to receive brand-new live-action iterations for the big screen, including the long-ignored Batman antagonist Mr. Freeze, whose ice-based powers make him a genuine threat to Gotham City. The iconic King of Cold has been a fan-favorite villain ever since his appearance in Batman: The Animated Series and a subsequent direct-to-video film, both of which greatly expanded upon what was formerly a rather one-dimensional character. Despite his popularity, Mr. Freeze has yet to receive a live-action adaptation that does him justice, though James Gunn's new DC cinematic universe has the opportunity to finally reverse this unfortunate trend.

Arnold Schwarzeneggar infamously portrayed Mr. Freeze in Joel Schumaker's Batman and Robin, becoming the first actor to ever do so in live-action. However, his performance was largely panned, and the script, unfortunately, relegated Mr. Freeze to a pun-spewing joke of a villain. Outside...

Strike: Troubled Blood Episode 2 Review – Misogyny vs Robin Ellacott
Image
Warning: This review contains spoilers.

This is more like it! No, episode two of Troubled Blood wasn’t any more generous with the Robin/Strike underpants progress, but it was several times more exciting than the opener by dint of having something happen in the present day. Double points for that thing being Holliday Grainger’s Robin wearing a disguise and doing a fake accent (tick that off your Strike bingo card).

It wasn’t just one fake accent this episode, but two. First there was the welcome return of fictional toff Venetia Hall, then there was a cockney teenager in a baseball cap who infiltrated a nursing home with a chorus of innits and awrights. Robin’s Mr Ben selection of improv personas has always been one of Strike’s highlights, and this was no different. The scene in which the odious Luca Ricci was sniffing around our girl had tension,...

Strike: Troubled Blood Episode 1 Review – A Lacklustre Opener
Image
Warning: this review contains spoilers.

This isn’t promising. As a TV show, Strike‘s appeal has never been the ingenuity of its cases, with their cardboard characters, pantomime twists and baroque plotting. Instead, it’s always been about the chemistry between leads Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger, and an all-round sense of retro comfort. In the first episode of four-part series Troubled Blood, the chemistry was missing and the retro comfort had been swapped for a retro case that sucked the energy out.

Things start well enough, with a change-of-scenery trip to Cornwall where Cormoran is visiting adoptive parents Ted and Joan. She’s dying of cancer but keeping her terminal diagnosis a secret. More unexpressed pain for our King of unexpressed pain! Just what the doctor ordered. And here comes Robin, driving her clapped-out Land Rover all the way from London to St Mawes, a knight on a...

Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger in C.B. Strike (2017)
Strike: Troubled Blood review – This drama should be cherished. It’s the BBC at its best
Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger in C.B. Strike (2017)
Strike: Troubled Blood really is an extraordinarily fine crime drama, where a range of exceptional talents come together to create something that is actually greater than the sum of its very formidable parts. That is something rare and to be cherished. And indeed watched, and I can unreservedly commend this four-parter as a highlight of your festive viewing. It starts brilliantly, but gets better, and there are some surprising and compelling star performances to come.

It’s the latest adaptation, by Tom Edge, of the Strike detective works of Jk Rowling, and probably the best. Tom Burke is once again in the title role of Cormoran Strike, the gruff but clever private investigator. Strike is an ex-soldier with a touch of Ptsd, a bit of a drink problem, and a troubled childhood. And his affection and respect for his resourceful business partner, Robin Ellacott (Holliday Grainger) always threatens, or promises,...

Strike Is Back For a New BBC Series: Recapping Cormoran and Robin’s Story So Far
Image
Warning: contains major spoilers for The Cuckoo’s Calling, The SilkworM, Career of Evil And Lethal White

To a childhood friend, he’s Bunsen. To his sister, he’s Stick. To the colleague whose life he saved, he’s Bob, and to his ex-fiancee, he’s Bluey. In the US, they know him as C.B. Strike, but in the UK, he’s Cormoran Strike, a Cornish Pi operating out of Soho’s Denmark Street. He’s the star of five detective novels by Robert Galbraith (an alias of J.K. Rowling), and he’ll soon be back on BBC One starring in his fifth miniseries Strike: Troubled Blood.

As it’s been over two years since we last saw Cormoran and his agency partner Robin Ellacott in the Strike: Lethal White finale, here’s a refresher on what we need to remember from last time around.

Robin and Matthew: the...
