Given its monumental status as one of the greatest films ever made, it is perhaps surprising that there aren't more movies about the circumstances surrounding the making of "Citizen Kane." After all, beyond the technical dazzle of Orson Welles' magnum opus, it is also the story of a clash between two towering egos at opposite ends of their careers: In one corner Welles, the prodigiously talented upstart from New York who was handed the keys to Hollywood for his first motion picture; in the other, William Randolph Hearst, the fearsome magnate who dominated the largest and most influential media empire in the United States. It is also the tale of two sprawling estates that became monuments to their builders; Hearst Castle, an opulent testament to Heart's immense wealth, and Xanadu, Welles' gloomy fictionalized version of the former that would loom large over the rest of his career. Yet, to date,...

Choosing which series Gintama has not parodied is probably easier than listing those that it has. Over its decades of run, Gintama has spent most of its runtime with random references to anything popular on the face of the Earth and parodying any series it can think of.
Whether it is Shonen anime or real-world pop culture, Gintama is not picky about what to parody. With each and every parody comes its unique fourth wall-breaking humor and antics that are hard to find in any other series. So here is a list of the funniest parody moments from the anime, which had fans clutching their stomachs and realizing why the series will always be the king of comedy.

Mr. Show and Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk took some time during his promotion of the John Wick-like Nobody 2 to instead give all the violent details about how he'd murder beloved Nintendo mascot Mario. The comedy-writer-turned-action-star is best known for playing Jimmy McGill, aka Saul Goodman, in both Breaking Bad and its prequel, Better Call Saul, but seems to have some beef with the iconic mustachioed plumber.
In an interview with IGN (via Eurogamer), Odenkirk was shown numerous images of characters on vacation in their various sequels, including The Brady Bunch, Alvin and the Chipmunks, and Kevin McCallister in Home Alone 2. The segment had Odenkirk channeling the violent tendencies of his Nobody 2 character, Hutch Mansell (who is on vacation in the upcoming film), to inform how he would fight each character shown to him.

Adam West's classic 1960s series wasn't the first live-action "Batman" adaptation, but it is the one most people think of when remembering the old days of the character on the screen. In the decades since, shows like "Batman: The Animated Series" and the many critically acclaimed Batman films have built the Caped Crusader into arguably the most popular superhero in the U.S., if not worldwide. But when it comes to camp and silly charm, nothing beats the '60s series.
Sadly, most of the folks who made that show what it was are no longer with us, including Adam West himself, who passed away in 2017. Other prominent co-stars like Burgess Meredith (The Penguin), Cesar Romero (The Joker), Alan Napier (Alfred), Neil Hamilton (Commissioner Gordon), and Yvonne Craig (Batgirl) have also all passed on.

At San Diego Comic-Con, Bob Odenkirk sat down with IGN to talk about his upcoming movie Nobody 2. During their chat, he shared some pretty wild and funny thoughts about which childhood TV and movie characters he would want to fight, and who he wouldn’t dare touch.
Odenkirk didn’t hold back. About The Brady Bunch, he said, “I would happily kill them, they don’t even have to do anything. Not the littlest girl I wouldn’t hurt, it’s not her fault she’s a Brady.” So, the youngest Brady is off limits, but the rest?
Not so much. Then he went after Alvin and the Chipmunks, saying he’d “step on them and crush them under my foot. You have to hear the bones and the gush inside their body, you’re gonna cheer.” That’s a pretty brutal mental image.

In terms of cinema, there's nothing more frustrating than jumping aboard a potential franchise, only to see studio heads pull the plug due to poor critical reception, underwhelming box office, or negative fan backlash. Surprisingly, this happens a lot, with an assortment of properties left dangling without a proper resolution to their storylines.
Typically, the fault lies with the producers, who too often put the cart before the horse and spend far too much time setting the stage for future sequels and spinoffs rather than focusing on laying a solid foundation for their property. And so, we're left with a bevy of incomplete films that vanish into the void -- often leaving a lot of unrealized potential on the table.
We've perused the cinematic landfill for examples of this unfortunate filmmaking staple and found 15 noteworthy cliffhangers that were never resolved. So grab some popcorn and take a look -- and don't worry,...

While at San Diego Comic-Con, Coyote vs. Acme will feature one iconic Looney Tunes character after showing up in a clip. The Looney Tunes movie was originally announced in 2018. It even completed filming before it was revealed that Warner Bros. would be shelving the movie.
It was just this year that the infamous film was saved by a noble distributor, Ketchup Entertainment. Ketchup had previously distributed another Looney Tunes movie called The Day the Earth Blew Up. Now saved, the Coyote vs. Acme movie will be shown to audiences next year.
At an Sdcc panel that ScreenRant attended, it was confirmed that Bugs Bunny will appear in Coyote vs Acme. Bugs' appearance was revealed via footage from the movie, in which Will Forte's character Kevin interacts with multiple Looney Tunes characters. In this clip, Wiles has hired Kevin. It was his first day in court in decades since he is used to settling cases.

The central duo in the Super Mario franchise have long been in a will-they-won't-they-type relationship, and Nintendo has finally spoken up on the matter. The iconic video game developer and hardware manufacturer has long taken a very lascadical approach to its characterization and lore, but a surprising bit of info clears the air regarding the plumber and the princess.
Spotted by X (formerly Twitter) user KirPinkFury (via My Nintendo News), the Nintendo Today app states that "Princess Peach and Mario are good friends and help each other out whenever they can." This sounds like a clear explanation that there is nothing romantic between the two characters, contrary to a broadly held assumption that Mario saved the princess many times out of personal obligation as well as duty.

After decades of risking life, limb, and at least a dozen castle-related traumas, Mario just got friend-zoned harder than anyone in gaming history. According to a recent Nintendo Today update—yes, an official Nintendo source—Mario and Princess Peach aren’t a couple. Not now, not ever. They’re just “good friends.”
Let that sink in. First shared by Twitter user KirPinkFury (shoutout to the real Mvp), this casual emotional drive-by states: “Mario and Peach are just good friends and help each other out whenever they can.” That’s it. No hearts. No romance. No she was in another castle because she was planning a surprise anniversary party. Just good friends. This comes as a punch in the gut for everyone who assumed that thirty-plus years of cheek kisses, flying raccoon suits, and literally going to space to save her might mean Mario had a shot at something more than polite gratitude.

Mario Lopez, best known for projects like ‘Saved by the Bell,’ and ‘The X Factor,’ was recently sued by a former NFL cheerleader, Desiree Townsend. Townsend claims that the man defamed her through his social media post. She is also suing Inside Edition, CBS Broadcasting, and Paramount Global for $100 million, vowing to give half of her earnings to James Franco and the profits to Women in Media.
Townsend got herself the nickname ‘Flu Shot Cheerleader’ when she claimed that a seasonal flu shot left her with dystonia. However, Inside Edition created a piece on her which showed a clip of her behaving erratically and having slurred speech. A while later, she seemed to be perfectly fine.
Lopez posted the video of her erratic behavior on Instagram, writing, “There’s gotta be some kind of award for this performance. #MethodActor #OscarWorthy.” Clearly, Lopez was convinced that Townsend was faking the diagnosis.

As we approach the premiere of Seth Green’s “Robot Chicken: Self-Discovery Special” to honor the animated adult stop-motion sketch comedy series’ 20th anniversary, we wanted to remember some of the show’s most iconic sketches.
When Seth Green launched “Robot Chicken” alongside Matthew Senreich on Adult Swim in 2005, it became an instant hit that fans stayed up late to watch. While some sketches may not hold up today due to some of the crude jokes, let’s just say “Robot Chicken” isn’t afraid to stretch the limits of comedy, no matter how dark the gags become.
Check out the best sketches we chose below.
“Jason Vorhees at Home”
In this quick sketch, viewers get a behind-the-scenes look at Jason Voorhees’s life when he’s not out and about murdering people. He’s a normal guy who does his own laundry and enjoys a good puzzle every now and again.

Chris Pratt kicked off the year by starring in The Electric State, the critically panned sci-fi film that cost over $300 million to make. 13 years ago, he starred in a forgotten rom-com that just got a disappointing streaming update. Pratt stars alongside Jason Segel (Shrinking) and Emily Blunt (Edge of Tomorrow) in The Five-Year Engagement, a romantic comedy following Tom (Segel) and Violet (Blunt), a newly-engaged couple that keeps running into obstacles before they can make it down the aisle. The Five-Year Engagement is currently streaming on Netflix, but the streamer has announced that the last day to watch the film will be July 31. Sega has finally dropped some news that Nintendo probably didn’t want to hear. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is officially coming to Switch 2 this holiday season, and the timing feels almost vindictive for anyone who’s been wrestling with Mario Kart World’s $79.99 price tag.
Just when Nintendo thought they had the premium kart racing market locked down with their $79.99 open-world racer, here comes Sonic with a $69.99 alternative that promises deeper customization and full physical releases. The rivalry that defined console gaming in the ’90s is back, except now it’s happening on Nintendo’s own hardware.
Anyone who’s been holding off on Mario Kart World because of the price jump now has a legitimate alternative to consider. That ten-dollar difference might not sound like much, but when you’re already questioning whether any kart racer is worth eighty bucks, every dollar matters.
Sega Knows Exactly What It’s Doing...

The latest Superman movie by James Gunn was released just a few days ago, and people are absolutely going wild about it. The red-caped alien from Krypton has always been an icon since his inception back in 1938, and in the past few years, his influence has been growing exponentially.
You might have noticed that while other heroes like Spider-Man or Batman routinely get stellar video games, bringing Superman to the gaming world seems like an impossible feat. And even when attempts are made, they rarely capture his true potential.

Two years after The Super Mario Bros. Movie was released and became one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time, Universal may have subtly announced that another project in this beloved Nintendo universe is on the way. The original movie premiered in 2023 and introduced audiences to Mario (Chris Pratt), Luigi (Charlie Day), and countless supporting characters from the Mushroom Kingdom.
With updates on The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2being unfortunately sparse, it seems like Universal Pictures may be focusing its attention elsewhere to expand this universe in a different direction. The studio recently acquired the film copyright for an untitled Donkey Kong movie, which could be the first of several spinoffs in Nintendo's budding movie franchise (via publicrecords.copyright.gov).

The Nintendo Cinematic Universe (Ncu) looks set to expand with an exciting new project, following the upcoming release of The Super Mario Bros. Moviesequel and the live-action Legend of Zeldafilm. The title has not been officially confirmed yet, but eagle-eyed Nintendo fans spotted a new copyright filing that indicates the company has plans with Universal Pictures to bring more of its beloved IP to the big screen after the staggering success of their joint CG-animated adventure about Italian-American plumbers Mario and Luigi.

While everyone’s been obsessing over when Link will finally grace the silver screen, Nintendo has been quietly cooking up something else entirely. A recent copyright filing reveals that the gaming giant, alongside Universal Pictures, has registered an “Untitled Donkey Kong Project” for motion picture development.
The timing couldn’t be more intriguing. With The Legend of Zelda live-action film now pushed back to May 7, 2027 (a six-week delay from its original March release), there’s suddenly a perfect window for another Nintendo property to swing into action. And honestly, who better than the barrel-throwing ape who started it all?
This isn’t just random speculation either. The copyright filing, dated June 6, 2025, explicitly mentions both Nintendo Studios LLC and Universal Pictures, making it crystal clear that this isn’t some fan project or wishful thinking. It’s the real deal, and it’s happening whether we’re ready or not.

A recent copyright filing suggests that Nintendo and Universal are planning to make a Donkey Kong movie.
Thirty years after its first foray into movie-making, Nintendo hit the box office jackpot with The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a CG-animated adventure about a plumber. Made in collaboration with animation house Illumination and Universal Pictures, the mushroom-encrusted romp made over $1.3bn worldwide, and Nintendo’s plans for further videogame adaptations began in earnest.
One project revealed to be in the works is a movie based on Donkey Kong – the anarchic ape character whose origins stretch back to the 1981 arcade machine of the same name. The film hasn’t been officially announced yet, but a filing at the US Copyright Office suggests that something called ‘Untitled Donkey Kong Project’ is at least in the early planning stages. (This was brought to our attention by Discussing Film on Bluesky.)

Chris Pratt will always be known for his role as Star Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, but a few years ago, he starred in a major blockbuster that has returned to streaming charts. Pratt stars alongside Anya Taylor-Joy and Jack Black in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the 2023 animated hit that sees Pratt voice the titular character, with Taylor-Joy voicing Princess Peach and Black as the villainous Bowser. The Super Mario Bros. Movie is currently streaming on Prime Video in America and both Prime and Netflix globally, where it’s charting in the top 10 in over 25 countries. The film earned a “rotten” 59% from critics but a “verified hot” 95% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it also grossed $1.3 billion at the global box office on a $100 million budget.

Only less than a year remains until the highly anticipated sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie enters theaters. The 2023 animated Nintendo feature was a massive box office hit, becoming the highest-grossing video game film adaptation of all time, with a box office total of $ 1.3 billion. It was also close to becoming the highest-grossing film of 2023, ultimately landing in second place, just behind Barbie. Now, as production for The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 continues, Illumination shared an update during Nintendo's recent shareholders' meeting that should excite fans for what's to come.
Nintendo Japan released the English translation of "The 85th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders," where Nintendo's game director and Mario creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, and Illumination's CEO, Chris Meledandri, shared a progress update for The Super Mario Bros. The coronation of Scarlett Johansson as Hollywood’s highest-grossing lead actor, thanks to “Jurassic World Rebirth’s” epic $322.5 million worldwide opening, sends a loud and clear message to Hollywood: The dinosaurs didn’t do it alone; movie stars still matter.
Going into the holiday weekend, it was unclear how “Jurassic World Rebirth” would fare, given mixed reviews that criticized the franchise’s inability to evolve beyond the core premise. But viral videos of stars Johansson and Jonathan Bailey getting cozy on red carpets or playfully bantering with the host of “Chicken Shop Date” did much to raise the awareness profile of “Rebirth,” helping to fuel its opening weekend box office.
The film’s success proves that intellectual property and an established brand — even one as well-known as “Jurassic World” — aren’t necessarily enough to get people into theaters. Audiences want movie stars and familiar faces they recognize and connect with.

After spending over a decade as a plus one to Mario’s many parties and sports outings, Donkey Kong is back to leading star status with the upcoming Switch 2 title, Donkey Kong Bananza (out July 17). It’s a big deal for a few reasons: not only is it the first 3D entry in the franchise since 1999’s Donkey Kong 64, it’s also the first time ever that Dk himself is headlining a launch title for a new generation of Nintendo hardware.

Despite the high price point, it quickly became one of the best-reviewed games in the series. Now, if you need a break from driving, Lego has just unveiled their latest sets based on Super Mario.
The two new Super Mario sets are once again centered around Mario Kart. First there's Shy Guy & P Wing. This 249-piece set comes complete with a buildable Shy Guy figure, his P Wing kart with a shell-launching function, and a detachable plane glider. The latter of which was found in Mario Kart 8. When you think about it, it must kind of suck to be Donkey Kong. Despite introducing the modern world to Nintendo games with 1981’s arcade classic, the great ape was quickly sidelined in favor of making Mario a star. While the mustachioed plumber and his brother became the face of the brand, Donkey Kong appears more sporadically — wavering occasionally between a hero and villain — and doesn’t even have a consistent lore. The Eighties original is generally understood to be an old timer named Cranky Kong, with the modern tie-wearing...

Why Frank Sinatra Tried to Shut Down The Godfather Before It Was Even Made ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
The Godfather might be Francis Ford Coppola’s masterpiece, but it didn’t land well with everyone. Apparently, popular late musician Frank Sinatra, of all people and for reasons still not fully clear, despised the project.
It was long before the film became the benchmark for mob movies that Sinatra had already decided it had no place in Hollywood. He hated it to such an extent that he tried hard to stop the screenplay from being written and kept a close watch on the people involved.

“The Outlaws” offers an alternative history, set in Portugal in the 1980s, where a dystopian dictatorship has taken over much of the world after World War II. Director and writer Bruno Gascon, along with lead actor Tomás Alves, sat down with Variety to speak about the six-part miniseries at the Italian Global Series Festival in Rimini where the show had its world premiere.
In “The Outlaws,” a carpenter, Mario, played by Alves, resists the regime by helping fugitives escape the system at great danger to himself.
“It comes from the idea that the world is changing and history repeats itself,” Gascon said. “I wanted to create a story that actually talked about what happened in history before and what is going on right now in the whole world, and draw parallels between the past and the present. Our characters live in a dystopian world where you can see what happens...

Rumor has it Luigi's Mansion could be making a comeback on the Switch 2. Luigi's Mansion is a bit of an outlier among the rest of the Mario franchise - decidedly more of a horror game, with lots of nods to games like Resident Evil, it plays very differently from mainline Mario. While those differences definitely diminish its audience, it's still a pretty popular spinoff, but not one that gets sequels very often. Since its initial release in 2001, there have only been three Luigi's Mansion games - in the same span of time, there have been 15 Super Mario titles.

Lea Massari, the Italian actress and European cinema icon famous for her roles in Michelangelo Antonioni‘s L’Avventura (1960), Dino Risi’s A Difficult Life (1961) and Louis Malle’s Murmur of the Heart (1971), has died. She was 91.
Massari died at her home in Rome on Monday, Italian media reported.
In a decades-long career that spanned films, television and theater, Massari played alongside the likes of Alain Delon, Jean Paul Belmondo, Michel Piccoli and Omar Sharif. She was a critical and audience favorite but shunned the spotlight. After retiring from acting more than 30 years ago, she rarely appeared in public.
Born Anna Maria Massatani on June 30, 1933 — she took the stage name Lea in honor of her fiancé, Leo, who died in an accident shortly before they were to be married — her childhood was spent across Europe as her family followed her father, an engineer, to positions in Spain, France and Switzerland.

It’s hard to believe nearly a decade has passed since Pixar’s Coco, an original, music-infused fantastical yarn about a Mexican boy who travels to Land of the Dead, grossed nearly $800 million at the global box office to rank No. 11 on the year’s list of top-grossing films. That was in 2017, a time when no one could have anticipated it would be quickly followed by a dramatic downturn in the appetite for original animated fare.
For Pixar, that downturn hit a new tipping point with the debut of Elio over the June 20-22 weekend. The original summer tentpole, about an orphaned boy whose wish to be abducted by aliens comes true, debuted to a dismal $20.8 million domestically and $14 million overseas in what’s by far a record-low opening for the storied animation studio co-founded by the late Steve Jobs and later acquired by Disney.

Which Video Game Movie Has Grossed Over $1B At The Worldwide Box Office? (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
Video games and Hollywood have always had a complicated relationship. Despite being built on rich stories, beloved characters, and massive fan bases, most video game movies have historically underperformed at the box office, or worse, bombed spectacularly. From Doom to Assassin’s Creed, the genre was once infamous for failing to live up to the hype. Even when the tide began to turn with modest successes like Detective Pikachu and Sonic the Hedgehog, a true box office juggernaut remained elusive.
Yet, the hunger for cinematic adaptations hasn’t slowed. Studios continue to invest heavily in transforming pixelated adventures into theatrical spectacles, hoping to crack the billion-dollar code. With Minecraft, Five Nights at Freddy’s, and Zelda movies in the pipeline, fans and analysts alike are watching closely to see which franchise could be the next breakout hit.
