‘The Mill Killers’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Catrin Jones, Bethany Williams-Potter, Emma Stacey, Ellen Jane-Thomas, Ioan Hefin, Steffan Cennydd, Nathan Sussex, Kevin McCurdy, Rhodri Miles | Written and Directed by Aled Owen

The Mill Killers is the feature debut from writer/director Aled Owen that explores the fear of being watched – both literally and metaphorically – through the lens of guilt, paranoia, and unresolved trauma, all wrapped up in a tense and atmospheric psychological horror film that lingers long after the credits roll.

The story follows Rhiannon (Catrin Jones), who is haunted by a tragic accident from her past. Along with her childhood friends Sam, Erin, and Mia, she returns to the now-abandoned steel mill (hence the new title for the film) where the incident took place. What starts as an attempt to find closure – and a hidden stash of money – quickly spirals into something far more sinister. As they navigate the decaying industrial setting, it becomes increasingly...

Scopophobia: The excessive fear of being seen in public, or stared at by others.

Scopophobia, aka The Mill Killers, is the feature debut from writer/director Aled Owen that explores the fear of being watched—both literally and metaphorically—through the lens of guilt, paranoia, and unresolved trauma, all wrapped up in a tense and atmospheric psychological horror film that lingers long after the credits roll.

Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games (2012)
A stage adaptation of The Hunger Games will open in London, with performances beginning October 20 at the Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre. The production is based on Suzanne Collins’ bestselling novel and its film adaptation.

The play has been adapted by playwright Conor McPherson and will be directed by Matthew Dunster. The venue, a 1,200-seat theater built for this production, is designed to create an immersive experience for audiences.

“I’m thrilled that The Hunger Games is in the hands of gifted playwright Conor McPherson and accomplished director Matthew Dunster,” Collins said. “Conor has done a fantastic adaptation, which is quite unique from the screenplay. And Matthew’s immersive, dynamic staging gives the audience a brand-new way to experience the story.”

JoBlo TV roundup: The free movie this week is Alien Party Crashers!
Image
At the end of September, JoBlo Media and Octane Multimedia teamed up to launch a new YouTube channel named JoBlo TV, which hosts multiple feature films to watch for free throughout the week. The genres we’ll be focusing on at JoBlo TV are Action, Horror, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Thrillers – and the movie we shared this week is a genre-bender (or blender) that’s described as a sci-fi horror comedy!

The movie in question is called Alien Party Crashers, and that sounds like a good time to me.

Written and directed by Peter Stray, Alien Party Crashers has the following synopsis: A London DJ returns to his home in Wales to host a New Year’s Eve party. When a wave of time travelling aliens descend on the party, he and his friends must protect their rural valley from the invaders. The film stars Robert Pugh, Hannah Daniel, Sophie Melville,...

Jimi Hendrix Documentary Boarded by Dcd Rights – Global Bulletin
Image
Rights

U.K.-based distributor Dcd Rights has acquired Grammy-nominated feature documentary “Music, Money, Madness… Jimi Hendrix Live In Maui.” The 90-minute documentary chronicles guitar legend Jimi Hendrix’s visit to Maui in July 1970 and details how he became ensnared in “Rainbow Bridge,” an ill-fated independent film produced by his manager, Michael Jeffery.

Jeffery secured a 300,000 advance against the promise of a soundtrack album by Hendrix — the first time a movie was funded solely by an album. Jeffery hired Chuck Wein, a former associate of Andy Warhol, to direct. However, without a script or professional actors, the shoot was proving one of excess. With Hendrix and the Experience already booked to play Honolulu, Wein, desperate to feature the band, planned to film them playing on the slope of the dormant Haleakala volcano. The show was a success but the film, less so.

The documentary is produced under the Experience Hendrix label,...

‘Alien Party Crashers’ VOD Review
Stars: Craig Russell, Robert Pugh, Hannah Daniel, Sheena Bhattessa, Richard Mylan, Kai Owen, Aled Pugh, Robert Boulter, Kevin McCurdy, Steve Meo, Dominique Dauwe, Marc Rhys, Tsilala Brock, Sophie Melville, Richard Corgan | Written and Directed by Peter Stray

DJ Steve Dennis (Craig Russell) decides to return home to the small town of Cwmtwrch, Wales to hold a New Year’s Eve Party, with the hope of getting some new investors interested in his new business venture. Unfortunately for Steve and his guests, aliens have decided to invade, leaving them no choice but to defend themselves against the invaders.

Alien Party Crashers has a rather complicated plot, with the various events crossing over several decades, which involves abductions, time travel, killer aliens and several bodies falling from the sky. It seems an ambitious project with the low budget, but as the events unfold the various seams of the plot come nicely together,...

Interview: Director Peter Stray talks ‘Canaries’
How did you first get into filmmaking?

Growing up in Swansea, there was a strong arts lineage thanks to local youth theatres and the legacy of Dylan Thomas. I was always into acting and was a child of the movies. I learnt a lot from BBC2 documentaries interviewing directors, from Ken Loach to Brian DePalma. Also, my mum is a Professor of Anthropology and her department at Swansea University was in the same building as media resources, so I was able to borrow Svhs cameras and learn to edit on the giant VHS editing decks they had back in the day! I learnt by doing.

What can we expect from your first feature film Canaries?

You can expect some laughs, scares, sci-fi intrigue and some political / social subtext should you go looking for it. Mostly it’s just a fun tale to be enjoyed with a beer and friends.

Can...
