‘WWE Smackdown’ Review (Aug 8th 2025)
Image
Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Smackdown, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s show!

Match #1: The MFTs def. The Motor City Machine Guns

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Talla Tonga and Jc Mateo picked up a major victory as they took down Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley. The Motor City Machine Guns shined early, using their incredible chemistry to isolate and neutralize Mateo, which kept the hulking Tonga away from the action. The towering Tonga, however, refused to stay down and threw Sabin to the floor, allowing his team to take control of the matchup. The Motor City Machine Guns fought back but were still banged up from their TLC Match at SummerSlam, and one chokeslam from Tonga ended the match.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #2: Sami Zayn def. Solo Sikoa

Scarlet Witch’s MCU Comeback Puts Her in a Dark New Role with a Deadly Partner

Marvel is getting ready to unleash chaos on Disney+ with Marvel Zombies, a new animated miniseries that drops October 3, 2025. The show is based on the Marvel Comics series of the same name and spins out of the What If…? episode “What If… Zombies?!” from 2021. Zeb Wells created the series, Bryan Andrews is directing and serving as showrunner, and Wells is also the head writer.

The story takes place in an alternate version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe where a zombie virus has wiped out most of the heroes and villains fans know. The survivors are left to fight against infected versions of people they once trusted.

The show’s animation will match the style of What If…?, using a cel-shaded “2.5D” look that blends 3D models with lighting to make them appear hand-drawn. Stellar Creative Lab, the same team that worked on What If…?, is back to handle the visuals.

The Downfall Of The Alien Franchise Can Be Traced Back To One Moment
Image
Before I begin, I should establish with readers that I vastly prefer Ridley Scott's 1979 sci-fi horror film "Alien" over James Cameron's high-octane action-packed 1986 follow-up "Aliens." Heck, I even prefer David Fincher's strange, awkward prison tragedy "Alien3" over "Aliens." While Cameron's film is slick and exciting, the "Alien" series -- for me -- has always functioned better when it hovers in the realm of terror, fear, and death. The alien Xenomorphs, designed by Swiss surrealist H.R. Giger, are better movie monsters when they are ineffable, strange, and off-putting. The title of Scott's film is both a noun and an adjective, describing a biological horror that the film's human protagonists can barely understand.

When standing in front of a Gigerian nightmare from beyond the stars -- one made of aspic, teeth, and remixed human genitals -- one shouldn't be holding a gun shouting clichéd movie dialogue like "Let's rock.

When Anya Taylor-Joy Thought She’d Never Work Again After Her Role In This Movie: “I Was Devastated”
Image
Why Did Anya Taylor-Joy Think She’d Never Work In Hollywood Again? (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Anya Taylor-Joy—now a full-fledged Hollywood star—once feared that The Witch might be the end of her acting career. Hard to believe, right? Back in 2016, her haunting turn as Thomasin in Robert Eggers’ unsettling period horror earned widespread critical acclaim. Yet, behind the glowing reviews, Taylor-Joy was grappling with serious doubts about whether she’d ever work again.

How Anya Taylor-Joy Turned Her First Big-Screen Meltdown Into Motivation

“I thought I’d never work again,” she admitted on THR’s Awards Chatter podcast. Imagine that—her very first major film role, and she’s having a full-on crisis. The actress even had a meltdown when she saw the movie for the first time at Sundance. “Rob showed us the film maybe two hours before the audience screening, and I was devastated. I thought, ‘I...

Andrew Lownie, Royal Author Of The Controversial Book The Royals Tried To Ban, Reveals The Truth About Fergie, The Duchess Of York, And Prince Andrew, Duke Of Disgrace
Image
Andrew Lownie, the royal author, has released a controversial new book that the royals tried to ban. The tell-all book in question is called “Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York.”

Prince Andrew Had Sex For The First Time When He Was Eleven Years Old

Lownie conducted thorough research. According to the Daily Mail, the author contacted

“Over 3,000 former school contemporaries, staff, colleagues, and associates of the couple.”

The staff he interviewed had to sign NDAs, as royals are not fully “subject to the Freedom of Information Act.”

Lownie divulged the massive skeletons in Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s closet. The book includes the shocking revelation that Andrew had sex for the first time when he was only eleven years old.

He had multiple sex partners by the time he was thirteen. There’s a reason he’s known as “Randy Andy,” a moniker that followed...

The Late Queen Elizabeth II’s Most Cherished Horse And “Gentle Giant” Retires After 14 Years Of Loyal Service
Image
The late Queen Elizabeth II’s most cherished horse and “Gentle Giant,” Tyrone, has retired after 14 years of loyal service. The Queen was a lover of all animals.

Tyrone Now Lives With His Family, His Father Storm, And His Sister Meg

19-year-old Tyrone, who was the late Queen’s favorite Windsor Grey, has gone to live out his days with the rest of his family, his father, Storm, and his sister, Meg.

Storm and Meg were waiting for Tyrone when he arrived. The three former state carriage horses, all Windsor Greys, enthusiastically reunited and touched noses, lovingly greeting each other.

The horses will live in the peaceful Chiltern Hills at a Horse Trust in Buckinghamshire, which is a sanctuary for retired horses.

Tyrone provided years of loyal service to the royal family and has earned his retirement. He was what is known as a “wheeler.”

He was the horse closest...

Happy Birthday, Princess Beatrice! Royal Family Celebrates King Charles’s Niece Turning 37
Image
August 8th is Princess Beatrice’s birthday. The royal family celebrates King Charles’s niece’s 37th birthday today.

This Year Is Beatrice’s First Birthday Since Welcoming Her New Baby Girl, Athena

It’s her first birthday since welcoming her new baby girl, Athena Elizabeth Rose, who was born prematurely. The milestone holds a special significance for Beatrice.

Born in 1988, Princess Beatrice was almost named Anabel by her parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson. However, Queen Elizabeth II stepped in and convinced them to choose another name.

The late Queen remarked that the moniker, Princess Anabel, was “too yuppie.” Since the monarch was the one who approved royal names, Anabel was discredited.

The names Charlotte and Victoria were also being considered. However, the Queen suggested the name Beatrice, which was the name of Queen Victoria’s youngest child.

The royals typically don’t shy away from making birthday tributes.

Highlander | Dave Bautista to play villain in the reboot
Image
The Highlander reboot appears to have its villain, as word gets out that Dave Bautista could play Kurgan in Chad Stahelski’s new film.

Almost 30 years on from the 1986 original, Highlander is getting a remake courtesy of John Wick director Chad Stahelski. Filming is said to be getting underway this autumn, and it sounds as though the production has slotted in a major piece in its casting puzzle: Dave Bautista is said to be in talks to star as the villain according to Deadline.

Assuming the meetings and form signing all go off without a hitch, this means Bautista will play The Kurgan – the towering, bloodthirsty villain played with wild-eyed relish by Clancy Brown in the first film. He’ll do battle over the centuries with Henry Cavill’s fellow immortal, Connor MacCleod (previously played by Christopher Lambert), while Russell Crowe will replace Sean Connery as the flamboyant mentor, Ramirez.

James Cameron Details How Aliens Could Have Improved The Xenomorph Design If Filmed Today
Image
James Cameron goes into detail on what he would've done if Aliens were filmed today. Released in 1986, the movie came after Ridley Scott's 1979 classic, Alien, as the second installment in the franchise. Set in a distant future, the sequel follows Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), the sole survivor of the alien attack in the flagship installment.

While talking to Jake Hamilton, Cameron shared how he'd approach the Alien Queen's design in his 1986 movie if it were made now. The filmmaker admitted that he would use CGI to create the Alien Queen's figure and revealed that they had to make "a lot of forced cuts" so the character would work on camera.

More on the subject of using CG in the process of making a film, Cameron stated that he believes "either one is a means to an end." Check out his full comments below:

14 Off-Screen Deaths That There’s No Time to Mourn
Image
Whether you’ve got a respected actor who’s taken a position in the Obama administration, or a universally loathed actor who finally quit, a character’s sudden death is a great opportunity to honor or completely debase your coworker.

14 ‘Community’: Pierce Hawthorne

Chevy Chase has been a menace to the cast and crew around him for decades, and Community famously disrespected him by making the character of Pierce reflect the doddering racism of the actor himself. The season after he left the show, it was casually revealed that he died of dehydration while filling up jugs of sperm.

13 ‘Jurassic Park’: Ray Arnold

Samuel L. Jackson played the park’s harried chief engineer, Ray Arnold. Arnold was sent into the danger zone to fulfill his destiny as the It guy — turn the power off and on again — only to disappear under mysterious circumstances. He makes one final appearance...

Reason Meghan Markle Falls Short of Queen Camilla’s Popularity Revealed
Image
Try as she may, Meghan Markle will never be able to step out of Queen Camilla’s shadow, not to talk of overshadowing her. At least that’s what a royal expert believes. What might make one think that, you ask? Well, read on to find out.

Why Queen Camilla Can Be Able To Turn Her UK Image Around, And Why Meghan Can’t

Queen Camilla and Meghan Markle are two royal ladies that have suffered at the hands of public opinion, but whilst one was able to redeem herself – sort of – the other has very little to offer in terms of a redemption arc that could turn the tides in her favor.

However, if Camilla can somewhat worm her way back into our hearts, why can’t Meghan be able to do so?

Royal expert Robert Jobson believes it all comes down to who’s got “a great character.

Prince Harry breaks silence after Sentebale scandal: “The damage is done, and it’s the children who pay the price”
Image
Harry breaks his silence following the Sentebale investigation and regrets that the ones most affected are the children the foundation seeks to support.

Prince Harry has issued a powerful and disappointed statement following the publication of the investigation into his charity Sentebale, which he co-founded nearly two decades ago alongside Prince Seeiso of Lesotho. Although the UK Charity Commission concluded there was no systemic bullying or misconduct, the Duke of Sussex made it clear that the internal conflict has had devastating consequences for those most in need of protection.

Prince Harry dances with children during the opening of Sentebale’s Mamohato Children’s Centre, during an official visit to Africa on 26 November 2015 in Maseru, Lesotho.

“As expected, the Commission found no wrongdoing by the co-founder and former patron, Prince Harry. Nor did it find any evidence of bullying, misogyny, or racial misogyny within the organisation, as...

The Reign of Queen Ginnarra (2025) Review
Image
It’s rare to see a fantasy film this ambitious emerge from the low-budget landscape. Yet The Reign of Queen Ginnarra, directed by Lawrie Brewster, defies expectation and takes a mighty, sword-wielding swipe. At a time when even mid-range studio pictures play it safe, this brave, often bonkers slice of medieval melodrama dares to summon dragons, cosmic horrors, and dynastic treachery, all wrapped in a swirling cloak of Lovecraftian darkness.

At nearly three hours long, it plunges headfirst into the dark waters of medieval fantasy, horror, and political tragedy. It’s full of jagged edges, wild tonal shifts, and occasional lapses in polish, and yet, for all its imperfections, it remains compulsively watchable.

The story follows Elderon (Andrew Gourlay), an outcast prince navigating a broken kingdom ruled by his tyrannical sister, Queen Ginnarra (Megan Tremethick). Banished from the royal court and pursued by enemies both mortal and monstrous, Elderon sets...

‘House of the Dragon’ Boss Hints at Massive Scope of Season 3
Image
While House of the Dragon Season 3 might not be the most eagerly anticipated season of the Game of Thrones franchise ever. It is still well and truly anticipated as the Dance of Dragons finally shifts into full gear. Many viewers of the show's second season had anticipated far more action than they eventually got during its sophomore run. Besides the Battle of Rook's Rest, House of the Dragon Season 2 did not feature any other large-scale conflicts, with the Battle of the Burning Mill taking place off-screen. Showrunner Ryan Condal has teased the unprecedented size of the production scale for Season 3 in a new update.

Season 2 ended with the Greens and the Blacks poised to clash at the Battle of the Gullet. Many viewers had expected that the naval conflict would close out the sophomore season, but that didn't materialize. Condal had previously promised that four major events would be covered in the new season,...

Is 1000-lb Sisters Season 8 Getting Canceled: Tammy Slaton’s Disheartening Comments Explained
Image
‘1000-lb Sisters’ fans have followed the weight loss journey of sisters Amy Slaton-Halterman and Tammy Slaton since the show first aired at the beginning of 2020. However, now fans seem to be wondering if the end of the reality show is near, and Tammy’s social media action only increased the speculation.

Both Amy and Tammy have lost a significant amount of weight over the seasons and have undergone bariatric surgeries, with season seven following Tammy’s skin removal surgery.

With the cast embracing healthier lifestyles and their stories peaking at the moment, it goes without saying that long-time fans are worried it could mean the end of ‘1000-lb Sisters.’

This only escalated when Tammy liked a comment on one of her TikTok posts talking about the cancellation. She posted a TikTok promoting the Fat Boy app with Mallory, and a fan commented,

To Be Hero X Episode 18 Review: Little Johnny’s Trust Comes with the Price to Pay
Image
Spoiler Alert !!!This article contains spoilers for To Be Hero Episode 18.

One of my greatest fears with To Be Hero X’s method of storytelling was the inability to properly develop the main story for the sake of individual character growth. It was basically believed that the first season would focus on developing them and the second would focus on the tournament itself. However, as the story progresses, that perception is also changing.

Needless to say, I didn’t expect the story to take this kind of a turn. Little Johnny’s arc has by far contributed the most to the main story. While I expected there to be a lot more happening in terms of action, it was a nice change of pace to see these supposedly unrelated characters drive the story. This consistent pattern of connection is what helps it stand apart.

To Be Hero X Is a...

‘To Be Hero X’s Finale Might Become an Underwhelming Mess
Image
To Be Hero X‘s finale might not match up to the level of expectations that the fans have built up, and it can really become a mess. Even though it has laid down a solid foundation from the very onset, and with each story, the series is close to reaching the end and unmasking the enigmatic Hero X, things might just go very wrong.

For one, X has always been a mystery, surrounded by many conspiracy theories: his time traveler or alien background, or a Superman template. Yet, he only gets a single episode for himself. There is going to be no heartbreaking story or the weight of responsibility.

The director of the series spoke out about the same, calling X a carefree guy who has ‘seen through’ the world. What does that mean for the fans who have been eagerly waiting for the story of X? Well, nothing good,...

Can Prince Harry Repair His Image After Exposing Royal Family Secrets?
Image
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle seem to have finally moved on from stirring royal drama, but the stench of it still follows them, even to their newest ventures.

Meghan Markle announces new As Ever offerings and royal fans remind her of that time she disrespected the Queen with a mock curtsy for their Netflix show.

Prince Harry travels to Angola for charity, and people question where he hid his kindness when Prince Philip was hospitalized during his final days. The kindness was probably on the Oprah couch, but you get the drift.

The thing is, I’m sure Harry and Meghan would love to be washed of their past, but the question remains: is there’s a PR machine strong enough to accomplish that?

Eyes Of Wakanda Episode 4 Recap & Ending Explained: Did Prince Tafari The Future Timeline?
Image
The fourth and final episode of Eyes of Wakanda, titled “The Last Panther,” is probably the best of the bunch. Set against the backdrop of the most crucial wars of colonial history, the episode not only highlights a common connection among all the timelines presented in the series, it also connects the past with an ominous alternate future. The significance of the War Dogs and criticism of Wakanda’s isolationist policies become most pronounced in the finale, as the series comes full circle, both thematically and narrative-wise.

Eyes of Wakanda’s finale opens during the war between the Ethiopian military and invading Italian forces in the city of Adwa, Ethiopia, in the year 1896, as War Dog Kuda, accompanied by Wakandan Prince Tafari, tries to locate a stolen Wakandan relic—a waraxe, to be precise, which previously belonged to Nkati the Lion, whom...

Eyes Of Wakanda Episode 2 Recap And Ending Explained: Did Memnon Kill Achilles?
Image
The second episode of Eyes of Wakanda leans into the mythical as viewers are taken into the pages of Homer’s timeless epic, “The Iliad.” It is the final leg of the Trojan War; the Greek forces have laid siege to the fortified walls of the city of Troy for nearly a decade or so. Under the leadership of legendary strategist/general Odysseus, a faction of Greek warriors are trying to breach through the city walls. On the other hand, prolific fighters of Thessaly’s Myrmidons, led by the legendary warrior Achilles, have managed to scale the walls of Troy. However, while Achilles and Odysseus seek to capture Trojan King Priam and rescue Helen, Queen of Sparta, to restore the honor of Greece by winning the war, not everyone is motivated by the same cause.

Royal Author Talks Kate Middelton’s Former Cruel Nickname “Waity Katy” And How She Almost Worked For Mohamed Al Fayed
Image
Royal author Katie Nicholl wrote about Kate Middleton, “In The Making Of A Royal Romance,” about Prince William and Kate Middleton’s royal romance.

Kate Was Excited When A Vacancy Opened Up At The Knightsbridge

The British tabloids gave Kate the nickname “Waity Katy” in the summer of 2009, prior to her marrying Prince William. The cruel moniker was due to the length of time she dated William before he proposed.

William and Kate Middleton started dating in 2002 after meeting at St. Andrews University. One year later, they moved in together and shared an apartment.

The couple broke up for a brief period in 2007. In October 2010, William proposed. In April 2011, the future King and Queen were married in a fairy-tale wedding in Westminster Abbey.

Kate’s spirits were dashed when, in 2009, all her friends were getting hitched while she and William were barely seeing each other at the time.

'The Batman Part II’ Writer Offers Exciting Details on Their Upcoming ‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel Series

Before knees were bent to the likes of Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), a greater part of Westeros first bent the knee to their forebear, the patriarch of the Targaryen dynasty, King Aegon, First of His Name. HBO built its Westeros-set franchise beginning with the critically acclaimed series, Game of Thrones, and has since followed it up with a prequel, House of the Dragon. Given the intense appeal of the lore, even more spin-offs have been considered over the years, one of them being an Aegon's Conquest series. While HBO is yet to officially greenlight an adaptation of Aegon's story, writer Mattson Tomlin — who recently just finished writing the first official draft of The Batman Part II alongside Matt Reeves — is attached to write the television series.

Eyes Of Wakanda Ending Explained: How It Ties Into Black Panther, What It Means For Iron Fist, And More
Image
Eyes of Wakanda has just premiered on Disney+, and it changes everything we thought we knew about Marvel Studios' Black Panther franchise.

The series follows multiple characters throughout history as they attempt to retrieve and return powerful artefacts to the isolationist nation of Wakanda. In the finale (which is set in 1896), we're introduced to a Black Panther from 500 years in the future, played by Anika Noni Rose.

The future Queen of Wakanda has travelled back in time because Wakanda and the world have fallen to the alien Horde. She warns Prince Tafari and Kuda that the Vibranium axe they've tracked down must not be returned to her home. By leaving the axe out in the world, it will one day be stolen by Erik Killmonger, drawing T'Challa out from the shadows and ultimately leading to Wakanda revealing itself to the world.

By changing history, Earth now stands a much greater...

Swifties Theorize That Taylor Swift Played the Last Character You’d Expect in ‘Happy Gilmore 2’
Image
Hardly a minute goes by in Happy Gilmore 2 without a celebrity randomly showing up for a cameo — from Eminem to Guy Fieri to Margaret Qualley to Post Malone to a ton of real-life pro golfers who presumably never fought any elderly game show hosts during tournaments.

One of the biggest stars to appear in the sequel is three-time Super Bowl champion/zero-time reading champion Travis Kelce, who was one of the earliest cameos to be confirmed by Adam Sandler.

But is it also possible that Kelce’s superstar girlfriend was also in the movie, and most of us just didn’t notice?

Now that Happy Gilmore 2 is out, we know that Kelce plays a dickish golf club restaurant server who fires Bad Bunny’s busboy character, Oscar, thus paving the way for him to become Happy’s new caddy.

Kelce's most memorable scene comes when Happy asks Oscar...

Image
HBO announced that filming is officially underway on the third season of House of the Dragon back in April, and we now have some fairly late casting news that fans of George R.R. Martin's Fire and Blood have been eagerly anticipating.

Deadline reports that Annie Shapero will play Alysanne Blackwood, aka Black Aly, in season 3. In the source material, Blackwood is a mighty warrior who ends up siding with Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) in the Dance of the Dragons before marrying Lord Cregan Stark (Tom Taylor.)

In the season 2 finale, Rhaenyra and Daemon (Matt Smith) put their differences aside and joined forces as they prepared to launch a full-scale attack on King's Landing.

We'll be meeting quite a few new faces in season 3, with James Norton (Happy Valley) previously joining the cast as Ormund Hightower, along with Tommy Flanagan as Ser Roderick Dustin, aka "Roddy the Ruin," and...

New Zelda Game Trailer Reveals Breath of the Wild Video Prequel
Image
The upcoming Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment has now detailed its setting and characters, and it appears we're far from finished with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom timeline. Age of Imprisonment is set to expand on the TotK lore, much like Age of Calamity and its time-traveling story did for BotW.

Shown during the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase livestream on Nintendo of America's YouTube page, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment will feature Zelda being teleported from the Tears of the Kingdom time to the Imprisoning War in the same timeline, and will fight alongside King Rauru and Queen Sonia in a canon story leading up to the events of TotK. Additionally, it seems Age of Imprisonment will tie other elements of past Zeldas into its narrative.

Prince William Has A Firm Rejection Of Prince Harry’s Olive Branch
Image
Prince William is a central figure in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s attempts at reconciliation. A recent offer from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex was allegedly met with a lack of interest from the Prince of Wales. Read on to find out more.

The Offer Of A Diary

Royal commentator Neil Sean, in his Tuesday YouTube vlog on Daily News Headlines, shone a light on the situation. Sean suggested that Harry and Meghan’s proposal to share their diary was an attempt to mend their relationship with Prince William, which could be taken as a public “apology.”

However, Sean dissed the move in his report on Prince William’s response: “Prince William, I can tell you 100% totally ignored [it], not interested. Zip it. Move on. To Be Hero X Episode 17 Review: Little Johnny’s Arc Is a Little Too Tainted By Spoilers
Image
Spoiler Alert !!!This article contains spoilers for To Be Hero X Episode 17.

I’ll come out clean first and foremost, Little Johnny was never my favourite character. Luckily, To Be Hero X has a tendency to make my prejudice seem worse than it actually is. In a string of near-perfect episodes, I finally found a flaw that pains me. While the reverse chronological order in which the series has been going is interesting, there is one evident problem.

The method of storytelling isn’t anything new, but it does make for a unique experience. The problem that comes with this is how, in the coming and ongoing arcs, future events are already accounted for. Little Johnny’s arc is going through the same. Although the revenge plot comes with something that was a much-needed thrill, its mysteries have already been uncovered.

Little Johnny Is To Be Hero X’s Most...
