Every Jenna Ortega Horror Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
Image
Jenna Ortega has quickly become the slasher genre's it girl, but some of her horror movies are better than others. Beginning her career as a child actor on Disney Channel, Ortega initially received widespread recognition for her role as Young Jane in the CW series Jane the Virgin from 2014 to 2019. Ortega's big break into the mainstream consciousness came in 2019, however, when she starred as Joe's impressionable neighbor Ellie Alves in the Netflix thriller series You. Yet, her true star power came three years later, when she starred as the eponymous Wednesday Addams in Tim Burton's Wednesday.

2022 cemented Ortega's status as a scream queen. She became the new face of the horrifying Scream movies, and appeared in horror movies both large (Ti West's X) and small (Studio 666.) Since then, her horror roles have only gotten bigger and better. Ortega's most recent horror film was Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the long-awaited and critically...

“The video game sequels introduced new outfits designed for different environments, such as underwater and cold weather.

'There Will Be Surprises': Tomb Raider's Only Survivor Trilogy Actor for Netflix Anime Reveals More About the Show's Best Relationship
Image
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft's Earl Baylon -- the lone returning actor from Tomb Raider's Survivor trilogy -- recently opened up about the many positive things to draw from Lara's friendship with longtime companion Jonah Maiava.

"I like the fact that there are few secrets between the two," Baylon told Tomb Raider about returning to the franchise for Netflix's animated series -- and why Lara and Jonah's dynamic successfully builds upon their characters' past experiences. "Almost nothing gets left unsaid -- I think we could use more of that Irl. All of us could use a person you have that level of comfort with, someone with whom you feel wholly supported. I think that's what Lara and Jonah have -- it's honestly kinda inspirational," he continued.

‘Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft’ Renewed at Netflix
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft (2024)
Netflix is plotting a new set of adventures for its version of Lara Croft.

The streamer has renewed its animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft for a second season. The pickup was a relatively quick one, coming just two weeks after the eight-episode first season premiered.

Based on the long-running Tomb Raider video game franchise, The Legend of Lara Croft follows the adventurer (voiced by Hayley Atwell) after the events of Square Enix’s video game reboot trilogy. The show aims to fill in a gap in Croft’s story between the reboot trilogy (which served as something of an origin story for the character) and the original games.

Season two, per Netflix, will find Lara discovering a trail of stolen African Orisha masks. “She joins forces with her best friend Sam (voiced by Karen Fukuhara in season one) to retrieve the precious artifacts,” the logline reads.

'A Responsibility I Would Take Seriously': Marvel Star Ready to Return as Lara Croft in Next Tomb Raider Project

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft's Hayley Atwell is more than ready to continue Lara Croft's globetrotting exploits in the franchise's next iteration.

In a conversation with GamesRadar, the Agent Carter star spoke favorably about bringing Lara to life in Netflix's animated continuation of the Crystal Dynamics games and her willingness to star in future seasons. "I just had an absolute blast doing this with this creative team. I've loved working with [director Meredith Layne] and [showrunner Tasha Huo] on this, and having Netflix behind it," she said, adding, "It feels like an elevated animation [and] that they really want[ed] to get it right emotionally. Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft TV Review: Hayley Atwell kicks ass as the video game icon
Image
Plot: Following the events of the Survivor series, Lara Croft has abandoned her friends to embark on increasingly more perilous solo adventures. But she must return home when a dangerous and powerful Chinese artifact is stolen from Croft Manor by a thief with an uncanny personal connection. Her daring pursuit will take her on an adventure around the world and to the depths of forgotten tombs, where she will be forced to confront her true self, and decide just what kind of hero she wants to become.

Review: The Tomb Raider franchise has always been stronger as a video game than it has been in live-action. The two Angelina Jolie-led feature films and the Alicia Vikander-led reboot were met with lukewarm reception. While the reboot hewed closer to the grittier tone of the more recent video games, none of the adaptations have captured the energy of Lara Croft...

Image
Tasha Huo would love to continue Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft's adventures for years to come, with the showrunner opening up about the series' titular character and her potential future development in a recent interview.

Speaking with Anime Trending, the Tomb Raider showrunner discussed her series' approach to molding young Lara into her original Tomb Raider persona and how many stories she hopes to tell in this prequel -- provided it doesn't get canceled. Citing Lara's shift in demeanor between the original PlayStation era and the recent Crystal Dynamics trilogy, she noted, "I think we're going to take as much time as Netflix will give to us. There's a certain version of her you meet in the show and she's already Classic Lara. But to me, that's not really interesting. I'm curious about how she builds her networks out, how she builds out her relationships. What are the informative traumas,...

Tomb Raider Reboot Still Moving Ahead With Phoebe Waller-Bridge
Image
Despite speculation from the fan base, Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Tomb Raider reboot is still moving ahead at Amazon MGM Studios. The new live-action series was announced in early 2023, with the Fleabag creator and star attached to write and executive produce the series. It was also revealed that the show will tie into an upcoming movie, which will recast the character again after the failed 2018 reboot, starring Alicia Vikander.

Speaking to Variety, Amazong MGM Studios head, Jennifer Salke, gave a long-awaited update on the show. "Phoebe is well into it and working in close partnership with [Tomb Raider general manager] Dallas Dickinson and the game producers," Salke revealed. News about the series had gone radio silent following the project's initial announcement. As a result, fans began speculating if the show and new movie had been canceled, especially with the brand-new animated Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft series having just been released on Netflix.

Tomb Raider: The Legend Of Lara Croft Voice Cast & Character Guide
Image
The cast of Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft includes some talented and noteworthy actors who will bring the iconic archaeologist and her friends to life. The Legend of Lara Croft is an animated show that continues Lara's story after Shadow of the Tomb Raider in the Tomb Raider timeline. Tomb Raider has been an iconic media franchise since 1996, when the first game was released, and there have been several live-action Tomb Raider movies since then, like Angelina Jolie's duology.

Lara Croft is an icon of both gaming and media as a whole, and she has incredibly big boots to fill. Any actor who plays the legendary archaeologist is taking on an extremely important role, but The Legend of Lara Croft seems to have cast her perfectly. Hayley Atwell has been described as Lara Croft in real life, and the rest of the show's cast seems like the perfect support for her performance.

Tomb Raider: The Legend Of Lara Croft Review - Netflix Anime Raises The Bar For Future Adaptations
Image
Since the franchise's launch in 1996, the Tomb Raider series has seen multiple adaptations over the years, namely the big screen incarnations led by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander as the iconic video game adventurer. Up until now, though, it's not been given a proper small-screen treatment, the sole exemption being 2007's Revisioned featuring Minnie Driver voicing the role in five to seven-minute episodes. Now, thankfully, it's getting its proper due with Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, which proves to be an exciting and stylish adaptation, despite some of its flaws.

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft Season 1 Review — An Epic Globe-Trotting Adventure
Image
I will admit that I’m not super familiar with Tomb Raider as a franchise. I know of it, obviously. Lara Croft’s iconography and historical significance in the gaming space is inescapable at this point. And it’s something I always meant to get around to given that, even without the added context, “Female Indiana Jones In The Modern Day” is an extremely strong hook.

But for one reason or another, I just never got around to playing any of the games or experiencing any of the previous adaptations. And as such, though the casting of Agent Carter herself, Hayley Atwell, in the lead role caught my eye, I was concerned about how Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft would play to a newcomer such as myself.

Stephen Amells Wrestling Drama Heels Is Now Streaming on Netflix
Image
Fans of Stephen Amell's performance as Oliver Queen on the hit superhero series Arrow can now watch Heels on Netflix, the Canadian actor's riveting follow-up series that aired on the Starz network from 2021 to 2023. The underrated sports drama centers on the wrestling rivalry between two brothers on opposite sides of the ring, one portraying a fictional hero and the other as a heel (the industry term for villain), blurring the line between fiction and reality.

Beyond the intense fighting matches and grueling stuntwork that occurs, the show's dramatic sway revolves around the brothers' attempt to do right by their late father and make him proud as they continue his legacy. With a compelling mix of action and drama, Heels proves Amell can play an unmasked antihero with just as much credible pathos as he lent to Arrow for nearly a decade.

Heels Season 1 Review: A Gripping Debut for Starz’ Wrestling Drama
Image
The wrestling drama Heels delves into the complex bond between two brothers thrust together in their father’s small-town wrestling league. After their dad’s passing, Jack Spade takes charge of the struggling Duffy Wrestling League in Duffy, Georgia. He plays the villainous “heel” in the ring while penning twisted stories. Younger brother Ace shines as the heroic “babyface” but dreams of escaping their sleepy burg.

Tension simmers between the siblings with differing visions for the promotion and their lives. Jack sees Dwl as his legacy, crucial for providing for his family. Ace yearns for fame beyond their backyard circuits. As the brothers grapple inside the ropes and out, we glimpse their rocky reality beneath the pageantry.

Starz’ Heels immerses us in this gritty sporting world. But it’s the emotionally charged kinship at its core that hooks us. Watching Jack and Ace’s relationship shift hold-by-hold keeps us hooked till the final bell.

If You Miss Arrow, Check Out Stephen Amells Drama With 94% Rt Now Streaming On Netflix
Image
Arrow was a remarkable series, hailed for compelling characters, strong plotting, and cinematic action sequences - but there is another well-received Stephen Amell-fronted show worth exploring for those missing it. DC's Arrow hit small screens on The CW in 2012 with Amell at its fore as billionaire playboy Oliver Queen and his vigilante counterpart Green Arrow. Amell's undercover crime-fighting pursuits as Green Arrow landed favorably with viewers, instigating the series' renewal through eight seasons. Although some seasons were regarded better than others, Arrow scored an average series rating of 86% with critics and 63% with audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

Not to mention, Arrow's success also set into motion a small TV superhero empire, dubbed the Arrowverse, of eight main series and two web series, including The Flash and Vixen. Having paved the way for other series and having made enough of a statement with its own story, Arrow came to a...

Tomb Raider Anime Creator Explains Why The Legend of Lara Croft Is Animated
Image
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft is bringing the iconic video game heroine back to our screens once again, but this time through the medium of animation. Video game adaptations have become a hot commodity in recent years. What was once considered to be a "cursed" venture by Hollywood has become the new go-to as comic book movies are beginning to repair themselves after a turbulent past few years. While shows like HBO's The Last of Us and Prime Video's Fallout have finally figured out how to adapt a video game into a live-action setting, animated adaptations have been flourishing for years.

MovieWeb spoke with Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft's creator and showrunner Tasha Huo about how she brought the beloved video game character to life in the new series. During our discussion, we asked Huo why she chose to adapt the beloved Tomb Raider games...

‘Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft’ Teaser Trailer Marks an Animated Return of the Badass Archaeologist
Image
Netflix dropped the teaser trailer for “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft,” the animated series (premiering October 10) that reintroduces the badass archaeologist/adventurer from the popular video game franchise. This comes on the heels of Netflix’s anime adaptation of James Cameron’s “Terminator” franchise, “Terminator Zero” (premiering August 29), from Skydance, Japanese animation studio Production I.G, and showrunner Mattson Tomlin.

Now, not only is Lara Croft animated, but this time it’s personal, and her journey turns existential.

Picking up after the 2018 game “Shadow of the Tomb Raider,” the colorful 2D animated series bridges the timeline between the reboot “Survivor” trilogy of games and the original games. It finds Lara (voiced by Hayley Atwell) abandoning her friends but being drawn back home when a dangerous and powerful Chinese artifact is stolen from Croft Manor by a thief from her past. Thus, her globe-trotting, tomb-chasing adventure finally forces her to...

Tomb Raider: The Legend Of Lara Croft Trailer Reveals First Look At Action-Packed Sequel To The Games
Image
We finally have the first teaser trailer for Netflix's Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft (via GameFragger.com) and, perhaps the most intriguing thing about this series is the fact it picks up after the events of the latest video game.

Typically, a show like this would be a straightforward adaptation of a game or an original story that draws inspiration from it. How accessible this "sequel" approach will make The Legend of Lara Croft remains to be seen, though the sneak peek promises a fun, action-packed adventure.

It was back in May that we learned Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Tomb Raider TV series is officially moving forward at Prime Video. However, that's set to be its own thing and has no ties to the games or previous movies starring Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.

As for this Lara Croft, she'll be voiced by Captain America: The First Avenger...

Heels Heads to Netflix Following Untimely Starz Cancellation
Image
It's possible that a canceled Starz series could get a second life courtesy of Netflix. A year after its cancellation left fans devastated, the wrestling drama Heels is set to premiere on Netflix this fall and there is a chance that the show could be revived, should the series prove to be successful on the streamer.

Heels

Per Deadline, both seasons of Heels will make their debut on Netflix on Sunday, September 15. Despite a devoted fan following and solid reviews, Starz canceled the series in 2023, but a new lease on life arrived when Netflix and Lionsgate Worldwide Television Distribution Group struck up a licensing deal back in April for the show. The news is especially good for executive producer and showrunner, Mike O'Malley, who believes that the series could be allowed to return if it is a success on the platform.

"Netflix is very practical. If a lot of people watch the show,...

‘Heels,’ Former Starz Series, Sets Netflix Premiere Date
Image
“Heels” has set its Netflix launch date.

The streamer announced Wednesday that the Starz series, which was canceled after two seasons in September 2023, will become available on Netflix on Sept. 15. Both seasons of the series will drop on that date. Netflix had previously announced in April that it had licensed the series. “Heels” aired its first season on Starz in 2021, with the second season following in 2023.

That is good news for fans of the show, which followed the professional wrestlers of the Duffy Wrestling League, a small independent promotion in Georgia. Jack Spade (Stephen Amell) inherited the league from his father and now struggles to keep it afloat while also trying to take it to the next level.

The series also starred Alexander Ludwig, Chris Bauer, Mary McCormack, Kelli Berglund, Allen Maldonado, Trey Tucker, Robby Ramos, Alice Barrett Mitchell, Roxton Garcia, David James Elliott, Joel Murray, and Cm Punk. Mike O’Malley,...

‘Heels’ To Premiere On Netflix This Fall
Image
Heels finally has a drop date on Netflix.

Both seasons of the drama about the world of small-town pro wrestling will premiere on the streamer Sunday, September 15.

Starz canceled the series in 2023. In April, Netflix and Lionsgate Worldwide Television Distribution Group agreed to a licensing agreement for the two seasons of the series that stars Stephen Amell, Alexander Ludwig, Allen Maldonado, Alison Luff, Chris Bauer, Kelli Berglund, Mary McCormack, Robby Ramos, Trey Tucker, Roxton Garcia, and James Harrison.

“Netflix is very practical,” EP/Showrunner Mike O’Malley told EW, which first broke the news about the premiere date. “If a lot of people watch the show, then there’s a real chance that we can make more. And if people don’t, there’s no reason to make more… The acting performances are so authentic and so genuine by every actor in this series, and I am thrilled that this platform...
