Exclusive: Here’s the scoop on the newest shop in town: Ex-BET exec Marvin Neil and indie film financier Kevin Weisberg have launched Inaugural Entertainment.

The L.A.-based independent studio will look to produce, acquire and distribute commercially-driven films from underrepresented voices and debuts with Whippin’ the Work from debutant director Allen Maldonado (Heels). Working alongside the founders is Ryan D. Adams, who has been named as Chief Operating Officer.

Whippin’ the Work is billed as a heartfelt drama following Jay Hussle, a recently released inmate and former street hustler who attempts to rebuild his life and open a restaurant in his old neighborhood with his daughter, who refuses to leave behind the very streets that led her father to prison. Production begins this summer ahead of a planned theatrical release in early 2026. Cast details haven’t been released yet.

Exclusive: Will Atlas has joined More/Medavoy Management. He will work as a manager representing writers, directors, and actors.

For the past three years, Atlas was at upstart talent agency Hyperion which recently closed down, with founder Ryan Bartlett and agents Austin Leshay and Atlas all landing new jobs. Bartlett is at Independent Artist Group; Leshay at Buchwald.

At Hyperion, Atlas did stints as a talent and lit agent, working with such clients as Shailene Woodley, Xochitl Gomez, Ashton Sanders, Natasha Behnam, Isidora Goreshter, Spence Moore II, Leah McNamara, Allen Maldonado, and Jake Horowitz.

Prior to joining Hyperion, Atlas worked as an assistant or coordinator for producers Jeff Robinov (Studio 8) and Arnon Milchan (New Regency), the film sales & finance group at CAA and film acquisitions at Relativity Media.

Netflix is plotting a new set of adventures for its version of Lara Croft.

The streamer has renewed its animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft for a second season. The pickup was a relatively quick one, coming just two weeks after the eight-episode first season premiered.

Based on the long-running Tomb Raider video game franchise, The Legend of Lara Croft follows the adventurer (voiced by Hayley Atwell) after the events of Square Enix’s video game reboot trilogy. The show aims to fill in a gap in Croft’s story between the reboot trilogy (which served as something of an origin story for the character) and the original games.

Season two, per Netflix, will find Lara discovering a trail of stolen African Orisha masks. “She joins forces with her best friend Sam (voiced by Karen Fukuhara in season one) to retrieve the precious artifacts,” the logline reads.

Netflix has announced the return of the original animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft season 2. Centering around the adventurer Lara Croft (voiced by Hayley Atwell), season 1 follows Lara as she confronts her traumatic past while trying to unravel an ancient mystery. The news comes roughly two weeks after the series premiered on Oct. 10. The first season consisted of eight episodes. Hayley Atwell provides the voice of Lara Croft. The show received mostly positive reviews from critics upon its release, with Season 1 holding a 73% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Legend of Lara Croft is an animated show that continues Lara's story after Shadow of the Tomb Raider in the Tomb Raider timeline. Tomb Raider has been an iconic media franchise since 1996, when the first game was released, and there have been several live-action Tomb Raider movies since then, like Angelina Jolie's duology.

Lara Croft is an icon of both gaming and media as a whole, and she has incredibly big boots to fill. Any actor who plays the legendary archaeologist is taking on an extremely important role, but The Legend of Lara Croft seems to have cast her perfectly. Hayley Atwell has been described as Lara Croft in real life, and the rest of the show's cast seems like the perfect support for her performance.

Since the franchise's launch in 1996, the Tomb Raider series has seen multiple adaptations over the years, namely the big screen incarnations led by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander as the iconic video game adventurer. Up until now, though, it's not been given a proper small-screen treatment, the sole exemption being 2007's Revisioned featuring Minnie Driver voicing the role in five to seven-minute episodes. Now, thankfully, it's getting its proper due with Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, which proves to be an exciting and stylish adaptation, despite some of its flaws.

I will admit that I’m not super familiar with Tomb Raider as a franchise. I know of it, obviously. Lara Croft’s iconography and historical significance in the gaming space is inescapable at this point. And it’s something I always meant to get around to given that, even without the added context, “Female Indiana Jones In The Modern Day” is an extremely strong hook.

But for one reason or another, I just never got around to playing any of the games or experiencing any of the previous adaptations. And as such, though the casting of Agent Carter herself, Hayley Atwell, in the lead role caught my eye, I was concerned about how Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft would play to a newcomer such as myself.

This week brings the return of Outer Banks! You can check out part 1 of season 4 on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024. All the Pogues are returning, and they are doing what they do best: looking for treasure. Don't they have enough? Did they spend it all already? So many questions! How are they having financial difficulties already? They are supposed to open a shop this season but... where did the rest of the money go?? We'll have to watch and see. It will be interesting to see how John B and Sarah deal with this death of their fathers.

Heels boss Mike O'Malley comments on possibly continuing the series ahead of its imminent debut on Netflix.

“Heels” is now officially streaming both of its seasons on Netflix, giving the former Starz series a chance to capture a much bigger audience than it ever had before.

Video game adaptations have become a hot commodity in recent years. What was once considered to be a "cursed" venture by Hollywood has become the new go-to as comic book movies are beginning to repair themselves after a turbulent past few years. While shows like HBO's The Last of Us and Prime Video's Fallout have finally figured out how to adapt a video game into a live-action setting, animated adaptations have been flourishing for years.

MovieWeb spoke with Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft's creator and showrunner Tasha Huo about how she brought the beloved video game character to life in the new series. During our discussion, we asked Huo why she chose to adapt the beloved Tomb Raider games...

Netflix dropped the teaser trailer for “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft,” the animated series (premiering October 10) that reintroduces the badass archaeologist/adventurer from the popular video game franchise. We finally have the first teaser trailer for Netflix's Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft (via GameFragger.com) and, perhaps the most intriguing thing about this series is the fact it picks up after the events of the latest video game.

Typically, a show like this would be a straightforward adaptation of a game or an original story that draws inspiration from it. How accessible this "sequel" approach will make The Legend of Lara Croft remains to be seen, though the sneak peek promises a fun, action-packed adventure.

It was back in May that we learned Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Tomb Raider TV series is officially moving forward at Prime Video. However, that's set to be its own thing and has no ties to the games or previous movies starring Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.

Final “The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power” Season 2 Trailer Out Now

Ahead of its premiere, Prime Video has released the final trailer for Season 2 of “The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power.” The big-budget high fantasy series is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s original “Lord of the Rings” trilogy during the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. Per the official Season 2 logline, after being cast out by Galadriel without army or ally, Sauron has returned, and the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power. The second season will reportedly build to the Siege of Eregion, a deadly and definitive battle in Tolkien’s history of the Second Age of Middle-earth that marked the beginning of the War of the Elves and Sauron.

The pro wrestling drama series, Heels, which originally aired on Starz is finding a new home on Netflix, and it has received an official release date.

According to Variety, both seasons of Heels will drop on Netflix on Sept. 15. The series ran for two seasons on Starz, before its untimely cancelation in 2023. The series centers around two brothers, Jack (Stephen Amell) and Ace Spade (Alexander Ludwig), who vie for control over their late father's wrestling promotion in small-town Georgia. The title of the show refers to what is deemed a villain in pro wrestling parlance, while a good guy is often referred to as a "face" or "babyface". The series also stars Chris Bauer, Mary McCormack, Kelli Berglund, Allen Maldonado, Trey Tucker, and Robby Ramos.

It's possible that a canceled Starz series could get a second life courtesy of Netflix. A year after its cancellation left fans devastated, the wrestling drama Heels is set to premiere on Netflix this fall and there is a chance that the show could be revived, should the series prove to be successful on the streamer.

Per Deadline, both seasons of Heels will make their debut on Netflix on Sunday, September 15. Despite a devoted fan following and solid reviews, Starz canceled the series in 2023, but a new lease on life arrived when Netflix and Lionsgate Worldwide Television Distribution Group struck up a licensing deal back in April for the show. The news is especially good for executive producer and showrunner, Mike O'Malley, who believes that the series could be allowed to return if it is a success on the platform.

“Heels” has set its Netflix launch date.

The streamer announced Wednesday that the Starz series, which was canceled after two seasons in September 2023, will become available on Netflix on Sept. 15. Both seasons of the series will drop on that date. Netflix had previously announced in April that it had licensed the series. “Heels” aired its first season on Starz in 2021, with the second season following in 2023.

That is good news for fans of the show, which followed the professional wrestlers of the Duffy Wrestling League, a small independent promotion in Georgia. Jack Spade (Stephen Amell) inherited the league from his father and now struggles to keep it afloat while also trying to take it to the next level.
