New York City Center has announced additional casting for its annual gala presentation Bat Boy: The Musical, the cult hit last seen Off Broadway in 2001. Andrew Durand (Dead Outlaw), Alex Newell (Shucked) and Christopher Sieber (Death Becomes Her) will join Taylor Trensch (Floyd Collins) who was previously announced as Bat Boy.

Also joining the cast is Kerry Butler, who starred in the original Off Broadway production. The cast is rounded out with Mary Faber, Alan H Green, Evan Harrington, John-Michael Lyles, Olivia Puckett, Rema Webb and Marissa Jaret Winokur.

The 2025 Tony Awards, which aired on CBS on June 8th, had the awards show’s best ratings since 2019. CBS reports the viewership was up a whopping 38% over 2024. In addition, the 78th Annual Tony Awards hosted by Cynthia Erivo drew in the largest streaming audience on Paramount+, increasing the streaming viewership by 208% over last year.

Maybe Happy Ending emerged the big winner, taking home the Best Musical, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical (Darren Criss), Best Direction of a Musical (Michael Arden), Best Book of a Musical (Will Aronson and Hue Park), Best Scenic Design of a Musical (Dane Laffrey and George Reeve), and Best Original Score trophies. On Sunday, the annual Tony Awards saw the best of Broadway commended for their skill at Radio City Music Hall.

Hosted by Cynthia Erivo, the 78th Tony Awards show was attended by numerous star celebrities on the screen, yet still firmly served as a platform to elevate the unsung musical cast and crew of live performances.

In addition to the many smooth quips Erivo delivered on stage, she also showcased her stellar vocals, singing her original number “Sometimes All You Need Is A Song.”

Notably, the 2025 awards show featured three historic wins for Asian American performers, who are regularly subject to stereotypes and prejudice in the business. The first Asian male to win a Tony was B.D. Wong for M. Butterfly, in 1988, and the first Asian woman was Lea Salonga for Miss Saigon in 1991.

Broadway does what Broadway wants, so no Best Play nominations (or anything else) for huge moneymaker Othello, and no Best Play noms for Good Night, and Good Luck, Stranger Things: The First Shadow and The Picture of Dorian Gray. Same for the critical favorite Cult of Love.

While Good Night and Dorian Gray weren’t nominated for Best Play, their big stars — George Clooney and Sarah Snook, respectively — were nominated for their performances, as expected. In fact, Dorian Gray, in which Snook plays all the characters from the Oscar Wilde novel, has the distinction of being the most nominated solo show in Tony history, placing in six categories: Snook’s performance, Kip Williams’ direction, and nods for scenic, lighting, sound and costume design.

Nominations for the 2025 Outer Critics Circle Awards were announced Friday by Oh, Mary! stars Cole Escola and Conrad Ricamora. Winners for these kudos, which honor Broadway and off-Broadway productions, will be announced on May 12.

The musical Death Becomes Her dominated the pack with 12 nominations, more than any other show, followed by Maybe Happy Ending with nine citations. Stranger Things: The First Shadow led in the play categories with seven bids, followed by The Hills of California with six.

While there are no Tony Awards nominators within the ranks of the Outer Critics Circle, the list of nominations nevertheless provides important insight into what performances are registering with the industry during awards season. A major difference is that the Outer Critics Circle employs gender-neutral categories but still capped at five slots. So, the actors named here have muscled their way past a large field of competitors in an impressive showing of awards strength.

Jeremy Jordan is returning to Broadway this spring in the beloved musical Floyd Collins, which will be staged on Broadway for the first time ever.

The Tony-nominated actor joined co-stars Jason Gotay and Lizzy McAlpine at a press day for the musical on Tuesday (March 18) in the rehearsal room at Lincoln Center Theater in New York City.

Floyd Collins is a musical based on the true story of a cave explorer in Kentucky, 1925. While chasing a dream of fame and fortune by turning Sand Cave into a tourist attraction, Floyd Collins (Jordan) himself becomes the attraction when he gets trapped 200 feet underground.

Creatives love to say things were serendipitous but, well, the film’s journey to the stage was pretty serendipitous: Blaemire loved the movie when he saw it a decade ago.

MPX Films has acquired LGBTQ rom-com “Things Like This” for an early 2025 release, TheWrap can exclusively reveal. The project from filmmaker and star Mark Talisman marks the freshman distribution company’s debut film. It is also Talisman’s directorial debut.

The indie project will launch in partnership with Big Picture Collective Studios (Bpc).

“Today’s feature film distribution world is dominated by macro industry trends, often sidelining the unique opportunities of independent content. By leveraging our expertise, we aim to empower and elevate visionary talents like Max Talisman to bypass these barriers and engage directly with their audiences across all screens and windows,” Mpx founders James Andrew Felts and Ryan Bury said in a statement.

The Repair Shop outfit Ricochet has signed up British indie vet Damon Pattison as its Creative Director. Reporting to MD Joanna Ball, Pattison will be responsible for developing, pitching and securing new commissions across all genres for the Warner Bros. Discovery-backed outfit. Pattison, who replaces Katy Thorogood, most recently ran Banijay-backed Beyond’s UK production arm but it was shuttered last year. He previously worked for BBC Studios and Keo Films, and set up Lucky Day Productions in 2007, which was sold to Zodiak Media Group. The Broadway revival of Camelot is ending its run on July 23.

The revival of the Lerner & Loewe musical, which features a revised book by Aaron Sorkin, began its run on March 9 at the Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theater and opened on April 13.

The revival of the 1960 musical received mixed reviews, but capacity dipped to 80 percent and grosses fell in recent weeks. Additionally, Camelot received five Tony Award nominations, including best revival of a musical, but did not take home any trophies. The production had planned to extend through at least Sept. 3.

The Bartlett Sher-directed revival, originally written by Alan Jay Lerner and centering on King Arthur’s creation of his kingdom and the love triangle between Arthur, Queen Guenevere and Sir Lancelot, featured a slightly trimmed down story and snappier dialogue, courtesy of Sorkin, who also removed all supernatural elements from the plot.
