I sat down to watch Subservience with a blend of curiosity and tempered expectations. The film, starring Megan Fox as an advanced AI companion who evolves beyond her programming, promised a fusion of sleek sci-fi aesthetics and psychological thrills. While it delivers on the former in spurts, its grasp on narrative and character development feels disappointingly shallow.

Set in a near-future world where humanoid AIs are marketed as domestic helpers, Subservience follows the story of a financially struggling single father (played convincingly by Michele Morrone) who purchases a female AI named Faye (Fox). Initially, she is the picture of servility: graceful, obedient, and eerily empathetic. Years after its completion, the new take on The Toxic Avenger has just gotten an exciting release update. After only having limited screenings in the past, the movie is now confirmed to be having a wide release this year.

Per Variety, Cinverse has announced that the reboot of The Toxic Avenger will have an unrated wide release in theaters in 2025. An exact date was not revealed, but the update confirms that the movie will be coming to the big screen rather than going straight to streaming. Starring Game of Thrones fan favorite Peter Dinklage, the new take on the classic Troma Entertainment film was directed by Macon Blair (I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore), who addressed the update in a statement.

There's trouble brewing in the skies in Mel Gibson's upcoming movie, Flight Risk. A new trailer for the action thriller has dropped, teasing a tense and violent aerial ride.

Mark Wahlberg stars — in an undoubtedly un-Whalberg-ian role — as the film's villain, a hitman pretending to be a pilot named Darryl Booth, who is transporting Air Marshal Madelyn Harris (portrayed by Downton Abbey's Michelle Dockery) and a man named Winston (That '70s Show's Topher Grace). When Grace's Winston notices that Wahlberg is not exactly who he says he is, all hell breaks loose. The adrenaline-filled trailer, which you can watch below, claims that the film is so intense, that "you don't watch it, you experience it."

We last saw Wahlberg in a villainous role in 1996's Fear, when he played a very jealous teen boyfriend, so seeing him step outside the norm as a determined hitman should be a fun ride.

A new trailer has been released for Flight Risk, an airplane thriller featuring Mark Wahlberg. The film is set for a release in theaters on Jan. 24, courtesy of Lionsgate.

Directed by Mel Gibson, Flight Risk stars Wahlberg as Daryl Booth, a hitman working undercover as a pilot as part of an attempt to assassinate an informant. Netflix's newly acquired film, Subservience, quickly rose to become the platform's current number-one most popular movie upon its streaming release on December 5, 2024. This comes as no surprise considering the immense star power that Megan Fox's name brings to the film. However, despite its popularity, the Scott Dale project has been met with mediocre critic and audience reviews, garnering many five out of 10-star ratings. Not only is the film far from astounding, but it is also gaining some negative attention for its parallels to the Universal Pictures 2022 box-office hit, M3GAN, directed by Gerard Johnstone.

Todd, who once wrote under the username Imaginator1D on the fanfiction site Wattpad, penned "After" as a story about a regular girl who ends up in a torrid, steamy romance with Harry Styles Fanfiction making the leap into legitimate literary territory isn't anything new; "Fifty Shades of Grey" began its life as a work of "Twilight" fanfiction, a fact that I cannot ever possibly unlearn. Knowing that the "After" series is about a very real person, though, might feel a little strange when you sit down to read or watch the stories.

When your computer is malfunctioning, leave it to the I.T. department to advise a reboot. On the other hand, if you're getting chummy with an android who advises you to reboot it for the sake of some quick entertainment, maybe think twice. So sets off a whirlwind of catastrophic events in Subservience, a new sci-fi thriller starring Rogue alum Megan Fox. The film's eloquent title, for those not familiar, means a "willingness to obey unquestionably," and you'll quickly understand why the word is cleverly used to sum up this new offering from director S.K. Dale.

We spoke with filmmaker Sk Dale leading up to the release of Subservience, his eerie new sci-fi thriller starring Megan Fox as a femme fatale-type android. It marks the second time Dale and Fox have worked together, following their critically acclaimed collaboration Till Death (2021). Now that Dale has directed two Fox starrers, he was able to share some intel about the Transformers alum that the common moviegoer might not know.

"What really shocks me, she has the greatest photographic memory I've ever seen, her ability to learn some of the exposition that we have," Dale told MovieWeb. "On the day of, she walked up on set, and I'm like, 'I'm really sorry, but I've just kind of rewrote this monologue, or a few of these lines for you. Subservience is the latest in a long line of sci-fi thrillers about the dangers of AI. Unfortunately, it's also one of the least original or creative. The sole difference the film can lay claim to is the fact that it cast Megan Fox as its leading lady. While the movie tries to delve into a provocative and alluring angle that has yet to be explored with depth in films about artificial intelligence, it falters and becomes a simple cautionary tale about out-of-control robots.

‘After We Fell’, ‘After Ever Happy’ will debut solely on the online platform.

Amazon Prime Video has secured UK and France rights from Voltage Pictures to After We Fell and After Ever Happy, the next two titles in the After young adult series.

It will launch the two films exclusively on the online platform, despite previous instalment After We Collided having been a box office hit in the UK when cinemas were open last autumn.

Release dates for the films are yet to be confirmed.

Hellboy, formerly known as Hellboy: The Blood Queen, is directed by Game of Thrones alumni and Dog Soldiers director Neil Marshall. It stands as a complete reboot of the franchise after Guillermo del Toro’s cult classic duology that failed to light the box office with disappointing returns. Gone is Ron Perlman as the titular character and replacing the iconic actor is Stranger Things star David Harbour, so at least it has that going for it, right?

This reboot of Hellboy is lifeless and soulless. The acting, from newcomer to the franchise, Sasha Lane is dreadful; meanwhile star David Harbour fails to bring any form of charisma or charm for a character that should be the epitome of sarcasm.

Following the first poster from last week, Lionsgate has released two trailers from Enemies Closer. Jean-Claude Van Damme stars as Xander, a deadly mercenary who hunts down two former enemies (Tom Everett Scott and Orlando Jones) who team up to retrieve a lost drug shipment. "Having accepted the challenge to play on The Task reality show, six students have each been offered the chance to win no less then $10 thousand dollars towards their college student loans. The only thing they'll be required to do, is survive the night of terrifying dares that await them in an abandoned prison. As they each take turns, testing their abilities to cope with the horror that lurks in the shadows, they will one by one face the ultimate terror.
