Former Warner Bros Discovery senior exec Christina D. Sarnoff has launched her own banner with a focus on multicultural storytelling for the Hispanic market.

Sarnoff, a senior manager of brand creative solutions at the major studio, left Wbd in April. She told The Hollywood Reporter Sarnoff Media Co will look to “empower the multicultural community, with a focus on the U.S. Hispanic community, through purpose driven entertainment, where brands have a seat at the table from development.”

Her new company will kick off with Ponce, a Latino singer and actor, nabbing a lead role in Vacaciones (Vacation), a new take on the iconic National Lampoon brand to be produced as a comedy adventure with National Lampoon and Danny Roth’s Rnr Media.

Shout! Studios has acquired North American distribution rights to family adventure feature “Pet Investigators” from indie European distributor Plaion Pictures.

The deal was negotiated by Shout! Studios’ executive VP Melissa Boag, Mark Balsam, Bruce Eisen of Eisen Law, and Steven Katz, Shout’s VP of business affairs, and film writer and producer Werner Kienberger of Plaion. Sola Media is selling remaining territories at Berlin’s European Film Market (EFM).

While other platforms scale back their original programming divisions, LinkedIn is preparing to bring a slew of new audio and video shows to its shores. The professionally-oriented social media hub has hired CNN alum Courtney Coupe as its first-ever Head of Original Programming.

Coupe will report to LinkedIn editor-in-chief Dan Roth. She will work alongside the company’s editorial team, which includes more than 180 people across 16 countries. Coupe’s priorities will be the development and execution of original content, which will build on the programming LinkedIn already offers. The platform recently launched a podcast network, where listeners can find shows from LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman (The Startup of You) and author Morra Aarons-Mele (The Anxious Achiever).

The Microsoft-owned social platform has hired Courtney Coupe as its first ever head of programming. Coupe “will work to build the strategy, development and production of all original video and audio content,” per the company, and will report to LinkedIn editor-in-chief Dan Roth.

She joins LinkedIn from CNN, where she most recently worked as senior VP of content strategy and operations for CNN Digital. A CNN veteran, Coupe had worked in multiple roles at the company over the years, including at its short-form video brand Great Big Story, and at CNN+. She also oversaw development and production for CNN Audio, the cable news channel’s podcast unit. She worked at Bloomberg and ABC News before joining CNN.

LinkedIn has made original programming a top priority for its editorial efforts in recent years.

Ashanti will play Lizzie, whose only request of her “Male of Honor” Marshall is that he doesn’t bring his hated ex Marie to her destination wedding. But lovesick Marshall brings her as his plus one, and Marie does everything in her power to wreck Lizzie’s big day.

Filming is scheduled to start in December in Florida. Director and additional casting has yet to be revealed.

When Jonathan Bennett — of “Mean Girls” and “Cake Wars” fame — got a call about starring in a TV movie called “Harvest of the Heart,” he was shopping. “I remember the moment the call came in, because I was at Costco buying groceries in safety goggles, an N95 mask, and gloves,” he said.

The call was from a casting director he had worked with before, offering him a part in a movie that was about to begin filming in Oklahoma — he had to ring her back after he got home and had sanitized his phone.

“I was surprised that a movie was starting this early,” Bennett said. “But my big concern was, what are the safety precautions going to be like?”

Currently shooting in Atlanta, the pic centers on a young boy (Walton) who is out to discover if a mythic superhero, who vanished 20 years earlier following a tragic event, is still alive. The film is based on an original idea by Bragi F. Schut, who penned the screenplay with additional writing from Mark L. Smith, Zak Penn, and Chuck MacLean. Stallone and Braden Aftergood of Balboa Productions are producing the film, the first for their company. Schut will serve as an executive producer. MGM is releasing the film on December 11 via their United Artists Releasing banner in the U.S. and outside the U.

Nicolas Cage has lined up his next movie, and it sounds like it's truly going to be something else. The Oscar-winner is set to star in a genre flick titled Wally's Wonderland. While the title makes it sound as though this could perhaps be a kid-friendly affair, it looks to be anything but, as Cage is said to be taking on animatronic monsters in a closed down amusement park.

According to a new report, Kevin Lewis has signed on to direct Wally's Wonderland, with Nicolas Cage on board to star in the lead role. The movie will center on a janitor, played by Cage, who ends up spending the night in a twisted amusement park where the animatronic characters begin coming to life. As such, Cage must fight off these various monsters, one at a time, to make his way out of the park with his life. G.O. Parsons penned the screenplay.

Lucas Heyne’s feature directing debut Mope will have its world premiere later this month in the Midnight section of the Sundance Film Festival. The drama is based on the true story of a real-life murder in 2010 at a San Fernando Valley porn company. That’s where Stephen Clancy Hill, a mope (slang for a wannabe porn star), who was living in the company’s warehouse at the time, went on a rampage with a sword when he was told he was fired. He eventually killed his friend and fellow mope Herbert Wong, who tried to intervene when Hill was attacking two others. Hill was killed in a standoff with police five days later.

Foresight Unlimited’s action thriller has taken a big step forward as the company announced that the trio have joined previously cast lead Toby Kebbell.

Rob Cohen is set to direct the film on August 1 and the announcement is timely, coming 15 years to the day of the Us release of Cohen’s auspicious global hit The Fast And The Furious.

Randy Couture, Melissa Bolona and Jamie Andrew Cutler also round out the key cast on the story about a meteorologist, his ex-Marine brother and a Treasury agent who must thwart a hack on a coastal Us Mint facility during a huge storm.

Kebbell will play the meteorologist, Kwanten his brother and Grace the Us official, while Ineson will play the criminal mastermind attempting to pull of the $600m heist.

Cohen, Scott Windhauser, Jeff Dixon, Anthony Fingleton and Carlos Davis wrote the screenplay.

Undeterred by Fox’s Fantastic Four reboot resulting in a financial and critical calamity, Toby Kebbell has teed up two tentpole blockbusters in 2016 in the form of Warcraft: The Beginning and Timur Bekmambetov’s bold remake of Ben-Hur. Neither are guaranteed hits, of course, and it’ll be interesting to see how those movies pan out among fans and critics alike.

Looking further afield, though, Kebbell has began snapping up roles in a variety of projects, with the latest being Rob Cohen’s white-knuckle ride, Category 5. Pitched as a hurricane heist move, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Kebbell’s casting on the Croisette, where Foresight Unlimited are currently handling foreign sales.

Alas, there’s no mention of which role Kebbell has snatched, though THR clarifies the general premise for Category 5. As the director behind the original The Fast and the Furious movie, it’s hardly surprising that Cohen...

Back in January 2015, we reported that Content Media has acquired distribution rights for a new zombie thriller entitled Pandemic, which gives viewers a first-person perspective on this apocalyptic event. Almost exactly one year later, we finally have the first trailer and poster for this movie, with Content Media setting an April 1 release date. As you can see in the trailer below, this isn't your typical zombie movie, putting you right in the middle of the undead action.

Today we have a trailer for the upcoming "Tag" thriller, starring Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Kick-Ass, Superbad), Scout Taylor-Compton (Halloween), Jonathan Lipnicki (Jerry Maguire), and Traci Lords. A veteran of international media sales and distribution, Marcy Rubin brings an extensive understanding of the ever-changing international marketplace to the table. Over the past 25 years, she has arranged financing via foreign pre-sales for over 100 independent films. After graduating from American University in Washington, D.C., she headed to Los Angeles and has worked at Merv Griffin Productions, Cinema Entertainment, and Kodiak Films. For the past 20 years, Rubin held the position of international sales executive at the prominent international production and distribution company, CineTel Films. During her tenure at CineTel, she developed a vast network of contacts with international distributors, television broadcasters, and financial institutions, and serving on the board of directors of Ifta, the trade organization of the independent film community (1996 and 1997). Now a sought-after member of that community, she speaks on various panels about the international marketplace. The next logical step for Rubin was to launch her own business, which she did in 2011: Blue Galaxy International, a full-service international distribution company with global representation. Fiorenza Cella Fiorenza Cella, founder of the video distribution company Free Dolphin Entertainment, began her career as a journalist with the Italian TV network Italia Uno (Mediaset). Why is it that only young college students get murdered in horror films? How come seniors are not attacked in their rocking chairs while they are in the middle of a game of Canasta or shuffle board? This reviewer would love to see a few senior citizens followed by serial killers while they try to drive away in their motorized wheel chair or while using their walker. Is horror becoming ageist? The Levenger Tapes, from New Films International, would say yes as this production continues the trend of murdering young folk as they travel out into the woods. This film is a "found footage" styled movie, where the killed film their own demise. Add in a tale of a missing girl and you have some suspense and maybe even some mystery. But this reviewer would still like to see a senior citizen chomping down on a villain or two with their dentures.

Talented director and writer of the horror movie Wrestlemaniac, Jesse Baget is on board to direct the thriller Breathless and Val Kilmer, Ray Liotta and Gina Gershon are all set to star along Kelli Giddish known for her role on the ABC’s drama All My Children.

Gershon plays the role of woman tired of her gangster husband’s scams and shady dealings and she let her best friend know and plan something special with Kilmer who would portray her criminal husband. Liotta would play a local sheriff brought into whatever mix there is as well.

Baget re-teamed with Stefania Moscato to write the script, and Mark Holder, Christine Holder, Danny Roth and Phillip Goldfine are producing.

Baget and Moscato both wrote the script for comedy White Knight which was also directed by Baget. The film is shown on Laliff 2011 (July 17th – 25th)

The Breathless thriller is in early production...

Ray Liotta will star in Zero Gravity Productions' action-thriller "Bad Karma."According to Variety, Suri Krishnamma will direct from a Steve Allrich script.Dominic Purcell and Rhona Mitra are in talks to join the cast. The film focuses on a con man (Liotta) who must deal with his murky past after turning his life around following a near-death experience.Mark Holder, Christine Holder, Mark Williams and Danny Roth will produce with Liotta executive producing.Production begins in May in Canada.Liotta finished work on the upcoming comedy "Wanderlust" and is currently filming "Cogan's Trade," opposite Brad Pitt, James Gandolfini, Sam Rockwell and Sam Shepard.

The remake of I Spit On Your Grave is an example of why I don.t get bent out of shape when one of my favorite movies is remade. Sometimes they get it right. A much-reviled cult film that revolves around an extended and graphic rape sequence seems like an odd film to revisit but writer Stuart Morse and director Steven R. Monroe have shifted the focus a bit in this new take. The original was a nihilistic` blend of gratuitous grindhouse entertainment and feminist revenge that Roger Ebert famously labeled .A vile bag of garbage that is so sick, reprehensible and contemptible that I can hardly believe it’s playing in respectable theaters.. I always felt Ebert.s hyperbole was inappropriate and hypocritical (his screenplays for Russ Meyer combined sex and violence not only for entertainment but for laughs). What riled Roger so much was the film.s centerpiece...

Charlie Sheen is set to put his troubles behind him to shoot a cameo role in a new movie this week (beg25Oct10), just days after he was dramatically hospitalised in New York.

The Two And A Half Men star hit headlines when cops were called his hotel room in the early hours of Tuesday morning, where they reportedly found the suite trashed and the actor nude and in an "emotionally disturbed" state.

He was admitted to hospital and a representative claimed the star had suffered an "adverse allergic reaction" to medication.

Sheen subsequently flew back to Los Angeles, where he is due on the set of new romantic comedy She Wants Me later this week (ends31oct10) to film a small role.

And the movie's producer Danny Roth is confident Sheen will honour the commitment, because the actor has been in touch with film bosses since the hotel incident.

Roth tells TMZ.com, "(Sheen) has been in constant communication with the production... there is no doubt he will show up to filming. (If he doesn't show up) it would force us to re-shoot a lot of what has been shot. (But) we're absolutely not worried."...
