Wu-Tang Forever: Hip-Hop Legends Deliver a Triumphant Farewell at the Wells Fargo Center
RZA
On a warm summer night in the City of Brotherly Love, history was made as the Wu-Tang Clan took the stage for what was billed as their final show — and they went out in epic fashion. The Wells Fargo Center was electric with energy as thousands of fans gathered to witness the legendary hip-hop collective deliver a performance that was equal parts celebration, reflection, and unfiltered lyrical fire. Direct support for this tour came from Run The Jewels who also put on an electrifying performance.

From the moment the lights dimmed and the iconic opening chords of “Bring da Ruckus” echoed through the arena, it was clear that Wu-Tang wasn’t here to say goodbye quietly. With all living members present — RZA, Gza, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa, and Cappadonna — the group launched into a masterclass in hip-hop showmanship. Their chemistry was as potent as ever,...

Image
As Sudanese-American rapper Bas was prepping the release of Melanchronica, his somber joint album with London duo the Hics, one major hiccup stood in the way. The sample on “Four Walls,” a break-up ballad and the first song the three of them created for the LP eight years ago, kept getting denied.

“That song almost never made it out,” Bas tells Rolling Stone.

The artist who held the keys to clearing the track? Erykah Badu. Bas and the Hics had used “Telephone” from her 2008 album New Amerykah Part One to produce “Four Walls,...

‘A Wu-Tang Experience: Live at Red Rocks Amphitheatre’ Review
Image
Featuring: RZA, Method Man, Cappadonna, Inspectah Deck, Masta Killa, Raekwon, Ydb | Written by RZA | Directed by RZA, Gerald K. Barclay

August 13th, 2021 saw the Wu-Tang Clan, one of hip-hop’s most iconic and influential collectives, take the stage at Colorado’s legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre for a performance that defied convention and cemented their legacy as musical innovators. Backed by the 60-piece Colorado Symphony Orchestra, the group delivered a set that blended their raw, gritty Staten Island sound with the lush, expansive tones of classical instrumentation. This wasn’t just a concert, it was a bold experiment, a fusion of genres, and a live scoring of the 1978 martial arts classic The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, the film that inspired their historical debut album, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Directed by RZA (the group’s visionary leader) and Gerald K. Barclay (aka Gee-Bee), A Wu-Tang Experience: Live at Red Rocks Amphitheatre is...

Every Wu-Tang Clan Members' Real Name (& How The Legendary Hip-Hop Group Got Their Title)
Image
The Wu-Tang Clan members' real names are much less known than the exciting and themed titles they dubbed themselves when they formed the influential hip-hop group. In the 1980s, on Staten Island, New York, cousins Robert Diggs, Gary Grice, and Russell Jones began rapping together and soon caught the attention of larger labels and recognized rappers. After some time apart, the three men came back together in 1992 and formed the Wu-Tang Clan, eventually bringing in seven more members to fill out the ranks of the group.

Those who have seen Wu-Tang: An American Saga may have a sense of the history of the group, but the pop culture and musical impact of the Wu-Tang extends far beyond any biography. The early heroes of East Coast hip hop, Grandmaster Flash, the Sugar Hill Gang, and Run-dmc gave way to a hardcore variety of gangster rap that proved even more influential, and...

Inside Vanity Fair’s Oscar Party With LeBron James, Billie Eilish and Steven Spielberg
Image
On Oscar night, details matter. Who are you wearing? What are you nominated for? Who won? Just don’t expect everyone to know the answers.

“What movie won?” Rick Hilton asked as he and wife Kathy Hilton assumed position at the end of a glamorous queue to get into Vanity Fair’s 30th anniversary Oscar party in Beverly Hills on Sunday after 10 p.m. They asked their son, Kathy says, but no clue. Fortunately, a gentleman standing directly in front of the couple had the answer. “It was Oppenheimer,” he said, not mentioning the awkwardness of Al Pacino’s best picture reveal. Some details can be saved for Monday morning. Plus, there are more rapid-fire questions to field.

What movie is that? Is it based on a true story? Who was the emcee?

“Oh, Jimmy Kimmel. I like him,” Rick said, smiling, in a totally relatable moment because who doesn’t love Jimmy Kimmel?...

New York City Designates November 15th as Ol’ Dirty Bastard Day
Image
New York City has honored the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard with his own day shortly after Mayor Eric Adams declared November 9th as Wu-Tang Day. As reported by Gothamist, November 15th will now be known as Ol’ Dirty Bastard Day following a resolution passed by the City Council earlier this week.

A founding member of Wu-Tang Clan, Ol’ Dirty Bastard (born Russell Jones) was born on November 15th, 1968, and died in 2004 of an accidental drug overdose — just two days short of his 36th birthday. This past November 15th would have been his 55th birthday.

Sponsored by Democratic Councilmember Chi Ossé, the resolution passed with 39 City Council members voting in favor and five against. “It being the 50th year of hip-hop, I wanted to recognize some of my personal favorite artists and contributors to the culture,” Ossé told City & State New York. “He’s from Central Brooklyn. We do rep Odb in the Brooklyn Zoo.

New York City Declares November 9th as Wu-Tang Day
Image
New York City is set to honor Wu-Tang Clan in a big way for the 30th anniversary of their seminal debut, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Not only has Mayor Eric Adams declared November 9th as Wu-Tang Day, but the Empire State Building will be lit up in the group’s signature black and yellow colors.

Released on November 9th, 1993, 36 Chambers was an instant classic as the group of nine rappers — RZA, Gza, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killa, Inspectah Deck, U-God, and Masta Killa — came together to spit hardcore rhymes over kung fu movie samples and hard-hitting snares on songs like “Protect Ya Neck” and “C.R.E.A.M.”

Earlier this year, RZA wrapped up the final season of his Hulu series, Wu-Tang: American Saga, documenting the rise of Wu-Tang Clan, which he discussed in an interview with Consequence. The group’s mastermind is currently celebrating the...

Exclusive: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem Soundtrack Celebrates Hip-Hop Legends
Image
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and music go together like the Ninja Turtles and pizza; the two are intrinsically linked. From the iconic theme song of the 1987 animated series, to Vanilla Ice’s tie-in “Ninja Rap” for 1991’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, and even their semi-forgotten 1990 stage rock and roll musical Coming Out of Their Shells, no matter the genre, these green teens are always rocking big tunes.

With music playing such a big role in the Turtles’ history, director Jeff Rowe and executive producer Seth Rogen had to be extra thoughtful when selecting the songs for the soundtrack of the Turtles’ latest film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. With its distinctive animation style, the feature film finds our pizza-loving Turtles escaping their sheltered existence in the sewers as they seek to be accepted as normal teenagers through acts of heroism.

In June, pop megastars BTS announced that their seven members would be focusing more on their individual paths, exploring solo projects as a way of strengthening their collective foundation. “I think BTS will become stronger [this] way,” rapper-songwriter-dancer J-Hope said when the group announced its next chapter. A little more than a month after his group’s joint statement, J-Hope is the first BTS member to release his own full solo project, a 10-track concept album that flexes his artistic muscle while paying tribute to his love of hip-hop.

Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s Widow Files $1 Million Lawsuit Against Wu-Tang Productions
Image
Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s widow filed a seven-figure breach of contract lawsuit in New York on Tuesday. It accuses the Wu-Tang Clan’s production company of “willfully” refusing to pay Odb’s estate its fair share of record royalties and publishing income over the last decade.

In her 10-page filing obtained by Rolling Stone, Icelene Jones, administrator of her late husband’s estate, is demanding damages of at least $1 million, plus interest.

The complaint describes Odb — real name Russell Tyrone Jones — as “a world-renowned rapper, producer, and songwriter at the...

With a record deal under their belt, Wu-Tang: An American Saga’s Season 2 finale focused on celebrating Wu-Tang’s arrival as a formidable force in music.

Sacha Jenkins at an event for Louis (2022)
'Of Mics and Men' Director Sacha Jenkins On Assembling the Wu-Tang Clan and Cutting Kanye West
Sacha Jenkins at an event for Louis (2022)
On one chilly January night in Utah, Sacha Jenkins turned the Sundance Film Festival into a raucous Wu-Tang Clan reunion, assembling luminaries including the Ghostface Killah, Cappadonna, U-God, Masta Killa and the legendary hip-hop ensemble's producing impresario The RZA. The crowd, which featured a thicker-than-Sundance-average haze of marijuana smoke and more expletive-filled call-and-response, roared through the first two hours of Jenkins' four-hour Showtime documentary Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men.

The series traces the Wu from impoverished Staten Island roots to the pinnacle of popular music through internal discontent, the tragic death of founding member Ol' Dirty Bastard and the ...

Luke Cage Will Feature Musical Performances From Some Notable Hip-Hop Artists
Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker has confirmed that there will be multiple musical performances on the show and that some of the artists who will appear include Faith Evans, Method Man, Charles Bradley, The Delfonics, and Raphael Saadiq.  This comes on the heels of the teaser attached to the Daredevil season 2 finale being set to Nas' Made You Look and the official Sdcc teaser trailer being set to Ol' Dirty Bastard's Shimmy Shimmy Ya.  Add that to the fact that every episode title is a Gang Starr song and it's very clear that hip-hop permeates all throughout the upcoming Netflix and Marvel collaboration.  That fact alone sets  it apart from the likes of Daredevil and Jessica Jones.    "Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad in terms of the score.  We had a 30-piece orchestra - we live scored the entire series.  People don't really do that anymore.  It give...

Iconic music legend Prince may have been laid to rest, but his career - and his estate - are expected to soar long after he's gone. A die hard Wu-Tang Clan fan's artwork ended up in the band's $2 million album, but he's not happy about it -- he's suing Martin Shkreli and RZA. Jason Koza says he submitted 9 hand drawn portraits of Wu-Tang members to be posted on a blog called Wu Disciples, but was pleasantly surprised when the group's producer Cilvaringz contacted him in 2014 to say he was working on the "Once Upon a Time in Shaolin" record. Michael Wai-Man Chan, Szu Shih, and Lung Ti in The Heroes (1980)
Dr. Teeth gives Odb a Muppet twist on 'Shimmy Shimmy Ya'
Michael Wai-Man Chan, Szu Shih, and Lung Ti in The Heroes (1980)
While Dr. Teeth, frontman to the Muppet ensemble The Electric Mayhem, may share some dental predilections with late Wu Tang Clan eccentric Ol' Dirty Bastard, their musical outputs have traditionally been fairly different. That ends today with the release of a Mylo the Cat YouTube assemblage blending Dr. Teeth with Odb's timeless work on 1995's "Shimmy Shimmy Ya." It's only 78 seconds and it follows in the footsteps of Mylo's Muppet mashups of "So What'cha Want," "Hip Hop Hooray" and "The Humpty Dance," which all also clocked in at under 1:40, the perfect amount of time to retain amusement without overstaying its welcome. Check it out:...

Wu-Tang Clan's good faith offering: New song 'Ruckus in B Minor'
Chow Yun-Fat, Leslie Cheung, and Lung Ti in A Better Tomorrow (1986)
Wu-Tang Clan have a release date for their oft-delayed new album "A Better Tomorrow," and they're sticking with it: mark Dec. 2 on your calendar. Perhaps as a sign of good faith, the crew has dropped another actual new song, "Ruckus in B Minor," from the set. Pre-order has also gone up, and fans can get three tracks straightaway if they so choose to do so: "Ruckus" plus two other previously released tunes, "Keep Watch" and "Ron O'Neal." What may also surprise Wu-Tang supporters -- aside from the shock that the group is releasing their first effort in seven years -- is that the voice of the late Ol' Dirty Bastard (aka Odb) will be, in some manner, present on the set. Here is the tracklist for Wu-Tang Clan's "A Better Tomorrow": 1. Ruckus In B Minor 2. Felt 3. 40th Street Black / We Will fight 4. Mistaken Identity 5. Hold the Heater 6. Crushed...

Game of Thrones's Khaleesi vs. Singer Kelis: How to Tell Them Apart
Kelis
Thanks to the popularity of Game of Thrones, more people are naming their babies after Daenerys Targaryen than ever before. In 2013, more than twice as many parents chose to name their baby girls "Khaleesi" than chose its soundalike "Kelis," according to data from the Social Security Administration.

Which got us thinking: In ten years or so, parents are going to have a very hard time determining whether their children's new friends are named after a dragon queen from a fantasy series or a female rapper who was once married to Nas. So, future parents, here's a refresher on Kelis vs.

Mighty basketball player joins a varied cast in Judd Apatow's new comedy, which includes Barkhad Abdi and Tilda Swinton

Judd Apatow, the director behind Knocked Up, Funny People and This Is 40, has added basketball star LeBron James to an already varied cast of his new movie Trainwreck.

It becomes what is likely to be the only ever film to star James alongside Wu-Tang Clan rapper Method Man, pro wrestler John Cena, and Tilda Swinton. Also appearing is Barkhad Abdi in one of his first roles since his Bafta-winning breakthrough Captain Phillips, as well as Us comedian Bill Hader alongside bright young things Ezra Miller and Brie Larson. The comedy, about a woman trying to wrest back control of her life, is written by feted standup comedian Amy Schumer who will also take a starring role.
