Marvel's Vision Series Is Bringing Back A Forgotten Iron Man Villain
Image
The Vision (Paul Bettany) was last seen flying off near the end of "WandaVision," but he will be headlining his own Disney+ series in 2026. Time will tell if "Vision" (the final title has not been confirmed at this time) can recapture the success of last year's "WandaVision" spin-off, "Agatha All Along."

It was previously confirmed that the Vision TV series would be bringing back the titular android's creator, the also robotic Ultron (James Spader). Now, Deadline reports that another Iron Man foe will be returning from (seeming) death. Jeff Bridges as Obadiah Stane? Mickey Rourke as Ivan Vanko? Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian? Nope! Instead, Faran Tahir is playing Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar, last seen in the very first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie: "Iron Man."

To quote the Vision's late brother-in-law Pietro Maximoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), "You didn't see that coming?" Well, Pietro, I did not!

Raza is simultaneously an obscure yet pivotal character — without him,...

Face It: Marvel's Best Iron Man Is In the Comics And Here's 10 Reasons Why
Image
Marvel fans often want to compare the MCU version of Iron Man and the comic book source material – and it is safe to say that the definitive version of character is the one that appears in the pages of Marvel Comics. For fans of Marvel movies who might be considering checking out the comics, here are ten reasons why that is the right move.

It might be easy to assume that there is more to compare than contrast between the two, on paper at least, but the MCU never directly adapts Tony Stark or his stories. Many elements of the comics are borrowed, but as is usually the case with movies, liberties need to be taken.

That is why, when considering the changes that the MCU makes to the character, it becomes clear that the comic book version of Iron Man is the superior of the two.

In The Comics,...

Marvel Just Tore Down DC's Multiverse In One of the Funniest Moments I've Ever Seen
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Captain America #15!Marvel just broke the fourth wall in the funniest way I've ever seen, and I can't help but think it's a dig at DC Comics. Considering DC's exhausting history of multiversal collisions and constant crises, it was only a matter of time before Marvel started poking fun at its biggest competitor. The way Marvel does it, however, is in such a Deadpool-like way that it involves the reader.

Captain America is having a wild new adventure in Captain America #15 by J. Michael Straczynski, Jess Saiz, Matt Hollingsworth, and Joe Caramagna. Teamed up with Spider-Man and Thor, they retreat to the safe haven of Broxton, Oklahoma. However, while trying to work out certain glitches that don't correspond with time, Spider-Man and Captain America hazard a new theory of the Multiverse that puts DC to shame.

According to Spidey, the multiverse cannot exist, and that's such a...

Thor vs Sentry: Who Won Every Time They Actually Fought (Including to the Death)
Image
Battles between superheroes - it's a classic trope from DC to Marvel, and Thor and Sentry are no exception. Because of the darkness within Sentry, the pure Thor has battled him several times, yet the winner varies depending on the context, with Thor on top here and Sentry as the winner there. The loser, however, sometimes suffers more fatal consequences, including death.

The God of Thunder is one of Marvel's most powerful heroes, but so is Sentry, who is a tumultuous hero often lauded as Marvel's version of Superman. Thor has been around for most of Marvel, first appearing in Journey Into Mystery #83 in 1962 by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, and Jack Kirby while Sentry is a more recent addition to comics lore, first appearing in The Sentry #1 in 2000 by Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee.

Since Sentry's arrival, he and Thor have clashed multiple times, as Sentry vies for Thor's role...

'Thanos Has to Fit': Josh Brolin Addresses Possible Return as Avengers Supervillain in Upcoming Sequel
Image
Despite his demise in Avengers: Endgame, Thanos could return and wreak havoc on the Multiverse again if the opportunity arises. Josh Brolin, who portrayed the terrifying supervillain, suggests he could portray Thanos in Avengers: Secret Wars, though the character "has to fit" the story being told.

Speaking with Collider at New York Comic Con, Brolin addressed the possibility of Thanos appearing in Secret Wars, the anticipated Phase Six closer and Multiverse-collapsing event. However, Brolin thinks the right narrative needs to be introduced for a Thanos comeback to make sense. "Im not kidding Theres a thing with playing Thanos. Its like, Oh, theyre gonna bring Thanos back. Its like Sicario ; it has to be right. Its like Ryan Reynolds and I talking about Taylor Swift and we should be talking about Deadpool 4. But we go back and forth. Again, its what in his mind fits, what in my mind fits. Thanos...

10 MCU Moments That Were Way More Important Than You Ever Realized
Image
One of the best things about the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the franchise's ability to sow small details that go on to have massive implications for the universe, whether they're easy to notice or not. Like any film, the narrative of the MCU movies are at their best when they can pay off something that is set up much earlier. As such an expansive franchise, the MCU can afford to seed tiny elements of the plot whose ramifications are only seen multiple movies later, ending up to be much more important moments than originally thought.

These small beats that end up being much more important than they seemed are everywhere in the early Marvel Cinematic Universe. Back when the franchise had a more defined direction with the culmination of the Infinity Saga storyline, the McU's films were excellent at teasing the direction of future characters with now-obvious foreshadowing. Other times,...

10 Best Western Comic Books Of All Time, Ranked
Image
The Western genre has been core to American entertainment since the dawn of Hollywood and the comic book industry, with legends like Zorro, the Lone Ranger and The Man With No Name being created from it. In the comic book industry, the genre led to a series of brilliant titles, ranging from ongoing books from Marvel and DC to prestige miniseries and graphic novels.

Western comics aren't as popular as they once were, but they continue to deliver readers a stream of entertaining stories -- that is, when there's a good series for them to buy. While Marvel and DC rarely revisit the genre today, they, along with other publishers, have given readers decades of stories and series to choose from. Ranging from the adventures of gunslinging outlaws to masked vigilantes bringing justice to the frontier, these stories are the very best of what a Western comic should be.

Cate Blanchett Says Marvel Movies Are Made 'Backwards' & Put Story Second
Image
Theres no stopping the Goddess of Death, even if Marvel arent necessarily used to having a whole script. Cate Blanchett, who proved to be an admirable foil to Chris Hemsworths God of Thunder in one of the Marvel Cinematic Universes most beloved big-screen entries, spoke about the strange process behind making Thor: Ragnarok (2017). But under the guidance of visionary director, Taika Waititi, the third Thor film went on to become not only a financial success, but a fan-favorite that even bedazzled critics.

Blanchetts villainous Hela remains quite memorable, and she played an enormous part in the superhero flicks success. However, the Oscar winner revealed that bringing the project to life involved quite the unorthodox process, which did not include a full screenplay. While promoting her new film, Borderlands, Blanchett said in an interview with GQ:

10 Most Powerful Members of Thor's Family in Marvel Lore (Asgard's Strongest Gods Ever)
Image
Thor's family in Marvel is vast and powerful, with lesser-known members like Ullr holding immense cosmic power. Gaea, Thor's mother, is an Elder God and strong link to Earth, proving to be one of the strongest in the family. Cul, Thor's uncle, stands out as one of the most wicked, nearly bringing about the end of the world in the Marvel Universe - and they only scratch the surface of the immense power in Thor's family.

Thor is one of the most powerful entities in the Marvel Universe, which makes sense, given that hes a literal god within a family of gods, all of whom boast similar levels of cosmic power. While Thor is easily the most famous of his family members, that shouldnt suggest the rest arent worth knowing. There are a few who Marvel Comics fans are already familiar with, like Loki, Hela, and Odin, but Thors...

How Powerful Thor's Asgardian Armor Is Compared To Vibranium
Image
Asgardian armor is more powerful than the MCU has portrayed it due to magical strength. Vibranium is Earth's strongest metal alternative, shown to rival Asgardian armor but it's arguably not as powerful. The MCU has underplayed Asgardian armor's power; it withstood star force, hinting at magic-infused strength.

Thors Asgardian armor was actually much more powerful than the MCU portrayed it to be. Thor was the first intergalactic being to be introduced to the MCU, so his Asgardian weapons and technology were already unlike anything the characters from Earth had ever seen. In Marvel's realm of Gods that constantly used magic, it makes sense that their resources would have to withstand the strongest of powers. For how much Asgard has been featured in the MCU, the franchise has never truly gone into how powerful Asgardian armor actually is.

Time and time again, MCU projects have mentioned vibranium as the strongest metal in the world.

10 Powerful Iron Man Suits Tony Stark Never Used In The MCU

Tony Stark never used some of the most powerful suits from the comics in the MCU, leaving room for potential appearances in future projects. The Deep-Space Armor and Godkiller Armor showcased Iron Man's cosmic capabilities beyond what was seen in the movies. Iron Man's specialized suits like the Cold Iron Armor and Iron Sorcerer Armor highlight his preparedness for any situation in the comics.

A Brief History of Marvel Comics' Multiverse
Image
Marvel's Multiverse has a rich history that dates back roughly fifty years, with the storytelling mechanic allowing for fresh and exciting takes on with different versions of iconic characters. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding to embrace the possibilities of the Multiverse, as seen in recent films and Disney+ shows, integrating classic stories and characters from different dimensions, as well as taking the concept in new directions. The Multiverse concept was formally introduced through the groundbreaking series "What If...?" in 1976, establishing the existence of divergent realities and popularizing the term "Multiverse."

Within its sprawling narrative landscape, Marvel Comics' Multiverse is timeless, and limitless – the story of how it came to be so central to Marvel's storytelling doesn't go back quite as far, definitively beginning roughly fifty years ago, as the company sought to continue telling fresh, exciting stories by exploring different versions of its iconic characters.

Why Thor Was Worthy In The MCU Broken Down By A Philosophy Expert
Image
Worthiness is a concept tied to Mjolnir in the Marvel universe, determining who can wield the powerful weapon. Three key traits of worthiness include selflessness, sacrifice, and heroism without conscious thought. Thor and his allies demonstrate worthiness by acting without self-awareness, proving their ability to wield Mjolnir.

One of the key traits of Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is his worthiness to wield Mjolnir - a concept that a philosophy expert has explored in depth. Although Thor is one of the MCU’s most powerful superheroes without the enchanted Uru hammer Mjolnir, the magic weapon focuses his weather-controlling abilities, is invaluable in combat, and can determine if one is worthy to wield it. What worthiness entails and who is worthy of Mjolnir, however, are concepts that the MCU often brings up without directly defining them.

Worthiness is a concept used in connection with Mjolnir throughout the original Marvel comics...

Marvel has settled all of their copyright lawsuits, retaining rights to Spider-Man and more

A couple years ago, Marvel received copyright termination notices from comic book artist / writer Larry Lieber and the estates of fellow artists / writers Gene Colan, Steve Ditko, Don Heck and Don Rico that would have caused them to lose the sole copyrights to such characters as Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, and others, as well as titles like Amazing Fantasy, The Avengers, Captain America, Daredevil, Iron Man, Journey Into Mystery, Marvel Super-Heroes, Strange Tales, Tales to Astonish, Tales of Suspense, and Tomb of Dracula. As reported in 2021, Marvel filed a series of lawsuits in response to those copyright termination notices. Now The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that all of those lawsuits have been settled.

The termination notices targeted not just specific artwork and stories, but also “any character, story element, or indicia reasonably associated with the Works.” As The Hollywood Reporter explains,...

Disney Vs. Ditko Ends With Settlement Over Spider-Man & Other Marvel Hero Rights – Update
Image
Updated, 8:15 Am: Amid all the turmoil in the MCU of late, Disney now has one less battle to fight.

After more than two years, Disney and subsidiary Marvel have reached a settlement with the estate of acclaimed comic book artist Steve Ditko. Lawyers for the Mouse House and the Ditko estate filed court papers on December 6 that effectively ended the pricey dispute. A final affirmation of the settlement is expected in the coming weeks.

Represented by pugilistic copyright attorney Marc Toberoff, the Ditko estate in 2021 had sought termination notices on the rights to such luminaries as Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and Iron Man. Other artists’ families and heirs also challenged the rights to characters created by their family members. Those disputes were resolved earlier this year.

As in previous settlements and resolutions that Disney/Marvel have reached with the likes of the Jack Kirby estate and others, the settlement with the Ditko estate is confidential.

Marvel Settles Fight Over Spider-Man, Doctor Strange Rights
Image
It looks like Marvel won’t be bringing its battle over the rights to Spider-Man and Doctor Strange into the new year. Attorneys for the company and the estate of Steve Ditko on Wednesday notified the court that they’ve reached an amicable settlement and expect a stipulation of dismissal with prejudice to be filed in the coming weeks.

This all started back in 2021, when Marvel filed a series of lawsuits in response to copyright termination notices from Larry Lieber and the estates of Gene Colan, Steve Ditko, Don Heck and Don Rico. In the Era of the Multiverse, Marvel Shouldn't Forget About Parallel Dimensions
Image
Marvel's Multiverse offers endless storytelling potential, but the company shouldn't neglect the possibilities of exploring other dimensions, as a way of introducing unique, fresh entities into the main Marvel Universe. Pre-Multiverse depictions of alternate dimensions, like the Human Torch's adventure in Strange Tales #103, showcase parallel dimensions that operate distinctively from the Multiverse concept. Marvel has recently shown willingness to embrace weirder and wilder storytelling; its current roster of creative talents should draw inspiration from classic stories, like the Human Torch's interdimensional tale, to create dynamic narratives that go beyond the Multiverse.

The Multiverse has been an integral part of Marvel storytelling since the 1970s – and while that has provided an endless reservoir of storytelling potential by allowing the company to introduce any and every variant of their iconic characters, Marvel shouldn't neglect the weirder, wilder possibilities its fictional universe has to offer, exhibited by pre-Multiverse depictions of alternate dimensions.

The Iron Man Comics Baffled The Writers Tasked With Launching The MCU
Image
If you keep up with superhero movies, you probably know how Marvel Studios started as an underdog and became a behemoth. The omnipresent Cinematic Universe all started with 2008's "Iron Man," which was far from a guaranteed hit; the title character was a B-list comic star at best, and comeback vehicles (like this was for Robert Downey Jr.) can be anything but.

According to the recent behind-the-scenes book "MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios" by Joanna Robinson, Dave Gonzales, and Gavin Edwards, even the film's writers didn't initially know if it would work. Their concerns went back to the source material. The most famous "Iron Man" comic was and is "Demon in a Bottle", about Tony Stark succumbing to and then beating alcoholism.

During the Bronze Age of Comics (the 1970s), superhero stories gestured to social relevance. "The Reign of Marvel Studios" says that writers weren't keen on such a premise being a blockbuster hit,...

The God of Thunder has undergone many changes over the years, which have made him the character fans know today. Thor has gone from an impetuous and brash young godling, to king of Asgard and more. He has been dead, lost, and even stripped of his name, all on the path to becoming the best god he can be. In between dealing with serpents, titans, and demons, these are the ten moments that truly define the mighty Thor.

10 Most Important Iron Man Moments That Defined Marvel History
Image
Iron Man wasn’t always the iconic superstar of Marvel that he is today, as the character spent most of his comic book career as a B to C-list hero below the likes of Spider-Man, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four. However, in the current age of Marvel Comics, Iron Man is easily a prime A-lister who’s been the cornerstone of some of the most important events in Marvel Comics history.

So, how did Iron Man go from being a fairly popular comic book character to the international icon he’s become? Well, it all has to do with the character’s arduous journey throughout his publication history. Out of every moment, only a few are notable enough to have played a major factor in Iron Man’s life, and helped shape Tony Stark into the hero fans know and love today. Iron Man: The Beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Image
In the mid 2000’s, comic book films were largely becoming accepted as massive box office draws that had the potential to make or break an actor’s career. Ben Affleck was trying to distance himself from his role as Matt Murdock in the critically panned Daredevil, Tobey Maguire was hanging up his Spidey-suit for (seemingly forever) and even Chris Evans was scarred from his role as Johnny Storm in the disappointing Fantastic Four series. And before we saw Affleck dawn the mantle of the world’s greatest detective, before Tobey swung his way back into the spotlight, and before Evans would secure his role as one of the most iconic superheroes of all time- Marvel was Seriously in need of some movie maintenance.

See, with the super-hero movie genre being the new “it trend” in Hollywood since the early millennium- Every studio in town was looking for usable comic book...

Star Wars Can't Fail Idris Elba Like the MCU
Image
Idris Elba made a big impression with a comparatively small part as Heimdall, the Guardian of Asgard, in the Thor movies. The actor had already made a name for himself in the first season of Luther and followed with an array of high-profile roles. That included parts in the Star Trek, DC, and Fast & Furious franchises, as well as a handful of Disney and Pixar films and a host of other projects.

Recent rumors have circulated about Elba's participation in the upcoming Rey Skywalker movie, possibly as a villain. It's an exciting prospect, and the actor would make a welcome presence in the galaxy far, far away, regardless of the part. And yet as strong as he was as Heimdall, the Marvel Cinematic Universe ultimately afforded him very little screen time, considering his talent. Assuming the rumors are true, Star Wars needs to do better by Elba.

Marvel Winds Down Fight Over Avengers Characters
Image
Marvel has made a major move toward ending the battle for the rights to its most iconic characters — including the Avengers — but the fight isn’t over.

Back in 2021, Marvel filed a series of lawsuits in response to copyright termination notices from Larry Lieber and the estates of Gene Colan, Steve Ditko, Don Heck and Don Rico.

U.S. Copyright Law gives authors or their heirs the ability to essentially claw back copyrights after a certain period of time. It doesn’t cover works made for hire, which has been Marvel’s primary argument in these matters.

At issue are the rights to titles including Amazing Fantasy, The Avengers, Captain America, Daredevil, Iron Man, Journey Into Mystery, Marvel Super-Heroes, Strange Tales, Tales to Astonish, Tales of Suspense and Tomb of Dracula.

In addition to the specific art and stories in the comics, the termination notices also targeted “any character, story element,...

Image
The Mighty Thor is gearing up for a new era with an all-new creative team behind him, and the writer of his upcoming relaunch, Al Ewing, recently shared his thoughts on what makes the founding Avenger so special--even referencing his first appearance. In an email interview with Polygon, writer Al Ewing gave insight on his upcoming Immortal Thor series alongside Martín Cóccolo and Alex Ross. With Thor Annual #1 and Immortal Thor #1 marking the beginning of a new era for Thor as the iconic hero and current Allfather of Asgard, Ewing built excitement for the next chapter of the hero while noting what made him such a captivating character all the way back in his early days in the Silver Age of comics.

Ewing, a veteran Marvel writer, is no stranger to some of Marvel's most iconic heroes. From the recently concluded Wasp and Storm & the Brotherhood of Mutants titles of...

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's Post-Credits Scenes, Explained
Image
The following contains spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, now playing in theaters.

From the start, writer/director James Gunn made it clear that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would close out the spacefaring heroes' journey and be his last time working with these characters. Similarly, Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldaña both stated that Vol. 3 would see them bid farewell to their performances as Drax and Gamora. Vol. 3 lives up to that promise by ending with the team disbanding as they move on to different personal journeys.

Gamora returns to her new friends among the Ravagers, Drax and Nebula (Karen Gillan) stay on Knowhere to look after refugees from the High Evolutionary's experiments, Mantis (Pom Klementieff) decides to find her purpose in the universe alongside a pair of Abilisks, and Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) decides to take some time off from being a hero to reconnect with his roots back on Earth.

Guardians Of The Galaxy's Groot Is Worlds Away From His Marvel Comic Book Origins
Image
Groot appears in different forms in every "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie, but whether he's baby-sized or 10 feet tall, Marvel fans probably know his key characteristics: he's an anthropomorphic humanoid tree, best friends with Rocket Raccoon, and can only say "I am Groot." However, the original Groot was quite a different beast (and had a much larger vocabulary).

Groot's comic debut was "Tales to Astonish" #13, published in 1960. This means he predates every modern Marvel hero barring Captain America and Namor the Sub-Mariner — only he wasn't a hero at first. Co-created by Jack Kirby, Stan Lee and his brother Larry Lieber, the original Groot was a malicious alien invader.

"I Challenged Groot, the Monster from Planet X!" was the eight-page chapter 1 of a four-chapter issue. This means Groot got to be on the cover; his cover appearance was brown in the original coloring, but grey in the modern recolor despite the...

10 Epic Marvel Rivalries That Shaped Comics History
Image
While there are some hero and villain duos that only the most die-hard comics fans would know, there are the iconic, epic Marvel Comics rivalries that have not only been ingrained in popular culture but have shaped comics history. When one says, "Marvel," it's hard not to imagine Spider-Man battling the Green Goblin. The same could be said for many of the renowned rivalries between a special selection of Marvel heroes and villains.

These epic rivalries are impactful for a number of reasons. One reason is that each rivalry set in motion a trend that would go on to be seen in other comics, regardless of the publishing house. Another reason is that these rivalries have impacted the events of the comics and their narratives in a meaningful and consequential way. Whatever the reason, the Marvel villains who could never be heroes and their contrasting superpowered opposites have delighted viewers...

‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ (2023). Movie Review: Same old thing
Image
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is a movie directed by Peyton Reed starring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly. With Michelle Pfeiffer, Michael Douglas, Jonathan Majors, Kathryn Newton and Bill Murray.

It is based on the comic by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Larry Lieber y Ernest Hart.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

You know what? In 100 years, when the machines remember that human beings still existed on this planet and some of them made things called movies and they start compiling -in a couple of nanoseconds- the History of Cinema, they will talk about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a phenomenon that, year after year, brings us movies so surprisingly repetitive, stupid and, above all, entertaining, and has managed to stun an audience that keeps asking for exactly this.

Yet another one that, without contributing anything, stuffed us with more of the same : a brutal cast of actors who, at the drop of a hat,...

DC One-Ups Ant-Man's Suit With One Horrifying Change
Image
The iconic shrinking suit from Ant-Man has just gotten an upgrade in DC Comics thanks to one horrifying change. Out of all the heroes in the world of comic book heroes that have shrinking abilities, Ant-Man has arguably become the most iconic. First created in 1962 by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Jack Kirby; the pint-sized hero has gone through numerous iterations with multiple people donning the mask. The character's 60th anniversary comic event even celebrated his storied history by bringing Ant-Men throughout the past together to face a greater evil. Plus, he's gained a wider appreciation in the mainstream public eye in the MCU as Paul Rudd took on the character and is set to continue his story in the upcoming film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. However, Ant-Man isn't the only superpowered person that can shrink, and a villain in the DC Universe has given the Ant-Man suit a terrifying update.

Marvel Planned to Make a Shocking MCU Hero Worthy of Mjolnir
Image
The enchantment on Thor's hammer Mjolnir means that only those who are truly worthy can lift it - a fact which has made doing so the ultimate symbol of heroism in Marvel lore. Only select heroes such as Captain America, Beta Ray Bill and DC's Wonder Woman have proved to be heroic enough to manage it, and the original plans for Marvel's World War Hulk would have added a new name to this illustrious roll call.

Cast by Odin, the enchantment on Thor's hammer has since taken on a life of its own, but it seems to reliably respond to those who are both pure of heart in fighting to protect others, and who battle on the frontlines of the galaxy's most significant conflicts. One such conflict was World War Hulk, when Bruce Banner's superstrong alter-ego returned to Earth seeking vengeance on the heroes who had exiled him in...

Loki’s First Appearance Proves He’s Always Been More than a Thor Villain
Image
In certain Marvel Comics runs as well as in the current landscape of the MCU, Loki has ventured out on his own and proved to be more than a Thor villain–and while that seems like a new development, it is actually something that was established upon his debut.

Loki Laufeyson is the God of Mischief on Asgard and the brother of the God of Thunder, Thor Odinson. While they are brothers, the two gods were far from allies in the early days of Marvel Comics as Thor regularly foiled Loki’s mischievous plots–plots that mostly revolved around Loki trying to take over as the king of either Earth or Asgard (or both). This relationship was established in Journey Into Mystery #85 by Jack Kirby, Larry Lieber, Stan Lee, and Dick Ayers. This issue is looked at as the first appearance of Loki, and while that is true to a certain extent,...

Groot Returns To His Original, Giant Form in Marvel Comics
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Mech Strike: Monster Hunters #5Marvel's Groot is finally returning to his proverbial roots in the form of a monstrous giant, and in the process, show precisely why this gentle giant ought to be feared. One of the most famous members of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Groot is known for his quiet nature, his friendship with his fellow Guardian Rocket Raccoon, and his extremely limited vocabularly: he can only say "I am Goot" (and only those words in that exact order). But Mech Strike: Monster Hunters #5 depicts Groot in a form unlike any other - save for his very first appearance, long before he became a Guardian of the Galaxy.

While Groot did not officially join the Guardians of the Galaxy team until 2008, his mere existence predates the entire team (both the original and modern incarnations). First appearing in Tales to Astonish #13 written by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Larry Lieber,...

‘I Am Groot’ Drops Trailer, Renewed For Five Additional Episodes
Image
After the long reign of Baby Yoda, a new young alien is set to take Disney+ by storm. The first trailer for “I Am Groot,” the “Guardians of the Galaxy” animated spinoff starring the monosyllabic space hero, has been released out of Marvel Studios Comic-Con animation panel on Friday.

In addition, the panel revealed that after the initial five animated shorts premiere this August, “I Am Groot” will return with additional episodes at a later date.

Initially created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Jack Kirby in the 1960s comic book “Tales to Astonish,” Groot (voiced in the MCU by Vin Diesel) is an extraterrestrial space creature noted for his friendly demeanor and gentle disposition. Although highly intelligent, Groot can only say one phrase, “I am Groot,” at any time, though those close to him — particularly his regular partner-in-crime Rocket Raccoon — are capable of understanding the intent behind his words.

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Should Be Grounded, Copyright Suit Claims; Paramount Straps In To “Defend Ourselves Vigorously”
Image
“Good morning aviators,” Tom Cruise says in a line from blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick. “This is your captain speaking. Today’s exercise is dogfighting.”

Specifically, there is now a legal dogfight between the film’s box office high-flyer Paramount Pictures and the Israeli-based widow and son of the author of the 1983 article that inspired the original 1986 movie.

In a copyright suit filed Monday in California federal court, Shosh Yonay and Yuval Yonay want unspecified but clearly big-bucks damages from the studio and, with a very odd sense of timing, an injunction to stop screenings and distribution of the May 27-released sequel, as well as any more more movies in the franchise.

Calling Top Gun: Maverick “derivative,” the Marc Toberoff- and Alex Kozinski-represented Yonays allege that Paramount is “thumbing its nose at the statute” that allows the termination of rights after 35 years (read the court complaint here).

“These claims are without merit,...

Stan Lee Fans Accuse Disney and Estate of ‘Exploiting’ Late Marvel Comics Icon
Image
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is resurrecting Stan Lee thanks to a new licensing deal — and fans are voicing their criticisms.

On May 19, Marvel announced a 20-year deal with Stan Lee Universe, a venture between Genius Brands International and Pow! Entertainment, to license the name and likeness of the late Marvel Comics editor-in-chief for use in future feature films and television productions, as well as Disney theme parks, “experiences,” and merchandise under a “broad deal” with his estate.

Lee died in November 2018 at age 95, and fans are calling for the memory of the beloved writer and editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics to be laid to rest.

Vulture critic Alison Willmore compared the deal to a “Weekend at Bernie’s” scheme, and Red Letter Media co-founder Jay Bauman slammed the deal, writing, “Stan Lee was exploited for the last few years of his life and now he can’t even rest in peace.

‘Loki’ Episode 5 Recap: You Want Lokis? You Get Lokis!

Journey Into Mystery was the title of the first Marvel comic to feature either Thor or Loki. It began as an anthology series featuring monsters and aliens, but Jack Kirby, Stan Lee, and Larry Lieber were so smitten with their adaptation of the characters of Norse myth that the Asgardians gradually took over the whole book, which was renamed after its hammer-wielding...
