Geoffrey Palmer, the prolific British film and TV actor, has died at the age of 93.

His death was confirmed by the BBC, which was home to As Time Goes By, the comedy in which he starred alongside Judi Dench. Palmer’s agent told the BBC that he died peacefully at home.

As Time Goes By ran for more than a decade on the BBC, but Palmer appeared in a huge number of other TV shows and movies throughout a career that began in the 1950s.

He was reunited with Dench in James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies, while his range is demonstrated in other credits including Doctor Who, The Legacy of Reginald Perrin, Parade’s End and The Hollow Crown. More recent roles included appearing in Paddington.

In 2004, Palmer was honored by Queen Elizabeth II with an Order of the British Empire.

Claire van der Boom and Todd Lasance are playing a US-based couple whose young daughter is abducted while they are on holiday at an Australian resort in Kidnapped, an unofficial Australian-Canadian co-production.

Us actor Katrina Bowden and Aaron Jakubenko lead the cast of survival thriller Great White, which is now shooting in Queensland.

Scripted by Michael Boughen and directed by Tvc director Martin Wilson in his feature debut, the plot follows five people who are stranded on a seaplane far from shore.

Their challenge is to try to make it to land before they either run out of supplies or are devoured by sharks.

Bowden, who played Florence Fulton in The Bold and the Beautiful and Cerie in 30 Rock, and Jakubenko play the seaplane operators and lovers Kaz Fellows and Charlie Brody.

Cast as the hapless passengers are Tim Kano (Neighbours) as Joji, Kimie Tsukakoshi as his wife Michelle and Te Kohe Tuhaka (The Dead Lands) as the cook Benny.

London, Aug 30: An eatery in Doncaster, South Yorkshire claims to have broken the world record for the largest portion of cod and chips.

Scawsby Fisheries served 33 pounds (13.6kg) of battered cod alongside 64 pounds (27.2kg) of chips.

An injured paratrooper spoke to Britain's Prince Charles yesterday (06.05.10). The prince - who was at a fundraising lunch in aid of The Soldiers' Charity, formerly the Army Benevolent Fund - spent time chatting with Ben Parkinson, a serviceman who lost both legs and suffered head and spinal injuries in a blast while serving in Afghanistan in 2006. Prince Charles had met the paratrooper on a number of occasions before but this was the first time he had spoken to him without the aid of a voice synthesiser. Ben asked the prince how his wife Camilla was coping with a broken leg, to which Charles said she was very frustrated and fed-up and therefore "could only imagine" how Ben felt.

Jimmy Carr has been criticised after making a joke about servicemen amputees. The Daily Telegraph reports that Carr made the quip at his show in Manchester on Friday. He said: "Say what you like about these servicemen amputees from Iraq and Afghanistan, but we're going to have a f**king good Paralympic team in 2012." Carr, who visited injured troops at Selly Oak military hospital and the Headley Court rehabilitation centre earlier this month, was criticised by servicemen, politicians and soldiers' relatives.
