Iconic Wednesday Addams Lines Fans Want to Hear Jenna Ortega Say
Image
From a comparatively minor member of The Addams Family, Wednesday Addams has become the preeminent creation of cartoonist Charles Addams, and looks to remain so for at least the foreseeable future. Netflix's smash-hit Wednesday series is a big part of that, thanks to Jenna Ortega's supremely winning performance in the title role. She arrived on top of Christina Ricci, who stole the show as a slightly younger Wednesday in Barry Sonnenfeld's two classic live-action Addams Family movies.

Indeed, Ricci's performance helps inform Ortega's, with the two actors both mastering Wednesday's devastating poker face and clever lines. Both build on the original performance by Lisa Loring, as does Chloe Grace-Moretz's turn in the two animated Addams Family movies. Ortega had her share of zingers in the first season of Wednesday, and Season 2 is apt to provide plenty more. However, if producers so choose, they have...

The She-Creature
Image
Part of a perfect 1956 matinee double bill, Alex Gordon’s supernatural thriller features an iconic monster, a piece of real horror art from monster-maker Paul Blaisdell. The production can best be described as ‘pedestrian’ but there’s no denying that the movie is an odd nostalgic favorite — a great poster helps. The cast mixes veterans with new blood — but the real reason to watch is starlet Marla English. This one should have been a classic.

Father Knows Best Film in the Works
20th Century Fox and New Regency are joining forces to bring the classic TV series Father Knows Best to the big screen. According to the trades, the rights have been secured and Chad and Dara Creasey have signed on to write the script. Father Knows Best starred Robert Young and centered on a middle class family’s life in the Midwest. It was created by writer Ed James and began on NBC radio in 1949, moved to TV in 1954 and ran until 1960, when Young called it quits even though the show was peaking in popularity. The contemporized film will involve a father whose modern-day parenting displeases his more traditional father, who comes to live with the family. They clash over which father knows best. Universal tried to make a film in 1994 with a script by Brokeback Mountain scribes Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana, with Young serving as a consultant. That didn't pan out,...
