It has been asked innumerable times previously, and yet each new cruel depth plumbed by Robert De Niro’s latter day career means we have to revisit the topic once more – where, oh where, did it all go wrong for Bobby?
Once considered the American movie actor of his generation, his collaborations with Martin Scorsese resulted in seminal performances including Raging Bull, Taxi Driver and the endlessly underrated King of Comedy, and more. At no point during this time did it seem possible that in the 21st century he would be reduced to sharing a film-set with a rapper whose primary selling point is the number of times he has been shot. But, sadly, this is what will happen when De Niro stars alongside 50 Cent in the forthcoming movie Freelancers.

It may sound like an odd pairing, but hardcore rapper 50 Cent (aka Cutris Jackson) is once again teaming up with his Righteous Kill costar, hardcore actor Robert De Niro for the gritty police drama Freelancers.
Forest Whitaker is also in talks to come aboard this tale from writer Philippe Casseus, which follows the son of a slain NYPD officer who decides to join the Police Academy. After graduating, 50 Cent's character finds a mentor in his father's former partner (Robert De Niro). Together, they become part of a rogue task force to rid New York City's streets of crime. It is not known at this time who Forest Whitaker will be playing in the movie.

Robert De Niro is set to star in Freelancers, a new cop drama from director Jessy Terrero. Forest Whitaker is currently negotiating to join the film that already has Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson. Filming is set to begin production in New Orleans on April 18 based on a script from Philippe Casseus. Jackson plays "the son of a slain NYPD officer who, with his two best friends, joins the Police Academy. After graduating, he's taken under the wing of his father's former partner Captain Vic Sarcone (De Niro) in the ranks of Sarcone's Street Vice Crime Task Force and he becomes part of Scarcone's rogue task force."
Freelancers is produced by Randall Emmett, Jackson, and George Furla. Rick Jackson, Jeff Rice, Fred Malmberg and Daniel Wagner are serving as excecutive producers. I liked De Niro in Limitless, but I hope that this film will get him back to being the awesome character actor that he is.
