Tubi’s Latest Original ‘Tarot Curse’ Doesn’t Cast a Spell [Review]

The biggest struggle that Tarot-based horror films suffer from, apart from the fact that none of them seem to understand how Tarot works, is how to translate prophetic doom into a compelling story. Inevitably these films take a page from Final Destination: an omnipotent threat that can’t be seen or touched picks off a group of friends until they finally get wise and confront the individual who dealt the cards. Rinse, lather, repeat.

Alas, Tarot Curse writers Dean Loftis and Mary O’Neil do very little to shake up the formula and the result is a frustrating 90-minute film that plays it far too safe.

Anurag Kashyap's 'Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat' to premiere at Marrakesh Film Fest on Nov 18

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyaps next movie ‘Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat’, will have its premiere at the Jemaa El Fna Square at Marrakesh International Film Festivals 19th edition on Friday, November 18.

The film shall be screened along with other spectacular films by stalwarts like Guillermo Del Toro, Paul Schrader and James Gray.

Reacting to it, Anurag said, “I am thrilled to present the world premiere of my film ‘Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat’ at the Square, at the Marrakech Film Festival. The film is a labour of love, and it’s been fun putting it together with amazing collaborations from Amit Trivedi and our lyricist Shellee and the colourful palette of my DoP Sylvester Fonseca and our production designer Shazia and the whole team, especially the energy of its young leads.”

Kartik Aaryan has already created a talk about his character when the trailer of his upcoming Shashanka Ghosh directorial ‘Freddy’ was released. His never-seen-before character is mind-boggling and has garnered a lot of attention. After delivering the biggest track of the year with his electrifying dance moves he’s come back with yet another chart buster – “Kaala Jaadu”. It is an addictive, smooth and orchestral soundtrack featuring Kartik Aaryan with the euphoric voice of Arijit Singh & Nikhita Gandhi, music by Pritam, and lyrics by Irshad Kamil.

Ash King: 'Ae Pagli' from 'Maja Ma' reflects purity and innocence of young love

Singer Ash King, who has lent his vocal prowess for the song ‘Ae Pagli’ from the Madhuri Dixit-starrer ‘Maja Ma’, said that the number reflects the purity and innocence of young love.

‘Ae Pagli’ has been supervised by Akashdeep Sengupta, composed by Gourov Dasgupta, with lyrics penned by Kumaar. The vocals are by Ash King and Prakriti Kakar. The music video featuring the young and good-looking pair, Ritwik Bhowmik and Barkha Singh, choreographed by the very talented Piyush and Shazia.

Ash King said: “For me, ‘Ae Pagli’ from the movie Maja Ma isn’t just another romantic track. It is a song that truly reflects the purity and innocence of young love, the thrill and the excitement of being with someone who leaves your pulse racing with a single look!”

A sixth season of Black Mirror has recently been announced (per Variety) and is sure to introduce a new range of unfortunate characters. The show is known for its shocking twists and characters that often come to a grisly or traumatic end.

Sometimes, villainous characters pay brutally for their crimes and other times the show tricks fans into feeling sorry for corrupt people like Victoria Skillane; however, innocent people like Shazia don't fair much better on the show. Many of the characters featured in Black Mirror have cruel and tragic endings, but some are memorable for being the worst of the worst.
