‘Andor’ Season 2 Episodes 7-8 Recap: Is Syril Dead Or Alive?
Image
In episode 6 of Andor Season 2, Vel and Cinta helped the Ghorman Front get their hands on some weapons that were being delivered to the “armory.” Things went sideways due to Lezine and Samm, and Cinta ended up paying for it with her life. The only thing more tragic than that death was how, by performing this heist, the Ghors had played right into the hands of the Empire. Now they had the perfect excuse to invade the planet in the name of maintaining peace, which made the whole act of robbing those guns to bolster the Front’s strength detrimental to the fate of Ghorman. While the Front and Vel were obviously in the dark about the Empire’s plans to mine the planet for Kalkite, it was revealed that even Syril had no idea about it, thereby setting the stage for a conflict between him and Dedra. ‘The Day of the Jackal’ Is Now Peacock’s Most-Watched New Original Drama Series Ever
Image
Peacock has struck gold with The Day of the Jackal. The political thriller, led by Eddie Redmayne, has become the streamer’s most-watched original drama series within 75 days of its release, according to NBCUniversal. The show has also been a major success globally, marking the biggest new series launch for Sky.

NBCU hasn’t shared exact viewership numbers, but reports indicate that the series gained impressive traction. The first episode alone pulled in 4.6 million viewers on Sky within its first 28 days.

While The Day of the Jackal didn’t make it onto Nielsen’s overall streaming originals list, it did debut as one of the top 10 streaming dramas in the U.S. during its release week on November 14. It resurfaced on the rankings again the week of its finale on December 12, showing consistent audience interest.

Unlike many streaming series that fade after their initial surge, The Day of the Jackal...

‘The Day Of The Jackal’ Becomes Peacock’s Most-Watched Original Drama Series After 75 Days
Image
Exclusive: The Day of the Jackal seems to have been a sleeper hit for Peacock.

The Eddie Redmayne-led political thriller has now become the streamer’s most-watched new original drama series ever after 75 days of viewership, NBCUniversal says.

Apparently, the series has found success globally as well, becoming the biggest new series launch ever on Sky. As is typical, NBCU didn’t provide exact numbers, though it was previously revealed that the first episode reached 4.6M viewers on Sky alone in its first 28 days.

The Day of the Jackal did also debut as one of the top 10 streaming original dramas during its debut week in the U.S. on November 14, per Nielsen. However, it was under the 320M streaming minute threshold to make it onto Nielsen’s overall streaming originals list for that interval.

It also ranked among streaming dramas again the week of its finale, on December 12, though...

Eddie Redmayne
Eddie Redmayne will be back as the Jackal.

Peacock and Sky renewed hit man drama The Day of the Jackal for a second season earlier this month and the streamer and British broadcaster confirmed that Redmayne will return.

It comes as little surprise given that Redmayne is the main character of the drama series and [Spoiler Alert] seemingly emerges relatively unscathed at the end of the first season in the dramatic and twist-heavy finale.

The splashy 10-part adaptation starred Redmayne and Lashana Lynch and has been rating well on both sides of the pond.

Adapted by Ronan Bennett from the hit Frederick Forsyth novel, Season 1 follows an unrivaled and highly elusive lone assassin, the Jackal (Redmayne), who makes his living carrying out hits for the highest fee. But following his latest kill, he meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer (Lynch) who starts to track down the Jackal in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe,...

Get ready for The Next Day of the Jackal.

Peacock and Sky have renewed “The Day of the Jackal,” the international assassin thriller series starring Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne, for Season 2, Deadline reports.

A joint venture between the Peacock streaming service and the British broadcaster Sky, “The Day of the Jackal” follows Redmayne’s titular contract killer as he carries out expensive, high-stakes hits, evades getting captured by MI6 agent Bianca Pullman (Lashana Lynch), and tries to keep what he really does for a living a secret from his wife, Nuria (Úrsula Corberó).

The series is based on the classic 1971 novel by Frederick Forsyth that was previously adapted into a film in 1973 and again very loosely in 1997 as “The Jackal.” It was created for television by Ronan Bennett. The Day of the Jackal gets renewed for season 2 at Peacock
Image
The Day of the Jackal will see more days as The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Peacock has renewed the thriller for another season. Our Alex Maidy enjoyed the show as he said in his review, “This grounded, realistic thriller takes time to develop the protagonist and antagonist while leaving audiences wondering which side they trust and whether they should or should not. This is not a clean-cut espionage story or even an action-oriented tale. The Day of the Jackal is a worthy modernization of the classic novel and delivers two of the year’s better performances on film or the small screen.”

According to THR, “The series drew 3 million viewers in its first week on [U.K. broadcast] Sky Atlantic, the best series debut there in two years. On Peacock, the show ranked among the top five original streaming series in the U.S. for its opening weekend, based on preliminary Nielsen data.

‘The Day of the Jackal’ Renewed for Season 2 at Peacock and Sky
Image
The Peacock and Sky dramatic series “The Day of the Jackal” was renewed for a second season, the streamer and broadcaster announced Thursday.

The show’s success was “unusually strong” Carnival Films CEO Gareth Neame told TheWrap this month. The series is part of Neame’s strategic plan that includes launching series that are “expressly British but will have global appeal.” The formula worked when he sold “Downton Abbey” to NBCUniversal in 2008, though he admitted he “could not have anticipated” how successful that series would ultimately become.

Sky and Peacock announced the series was in production in 2023. Eddie Redmayne produced and starred in the first season. The show is based on the Frederick Forsyth thriller and subsequent award-winning 1973 film adaptation of the same name.

“While staying true to the DNA of the original story, this contemporary drama will delve deeper into the chameleon like ‘anti-hero’ at the heart of the story in a high octane,...

Why The Day of the Jackal Works Better as a TV Series Than a Movie
Image
Blasting its way to Peacock on November 14, 2024, The Day of the Jackal is a violent TV crime thriller following The Jackal (played by Eddie Redmayne), an ice-cold assassin known for accepting the most dangerous assignments for large sums of money. Redmayne follows Edward Fox and Bruce Willis in portraying the titular killer-for-hire. However, thanks to the long-form narrative, he is given much more leeway to craft the character in conjunction with the Frederick Forsyth novel.

Despite two attempts to adapt Frederick Forsyth's novel, one in 1973 and another in 1997, the 380-page tome covers too much to adapt as a two-hour movie. As such, the 10-episode TV adaptation is a perfect amount of time to develop the character, faithfully adapt the most significant plot points in the novel, and give fans the full experience that Forsyth conceived when it was published in 1971. Here's why The Day of the Jackal works best as a TV show.

The Day Of The Jackal Review: Peacock's Propulsive Action Thriller Series Actually Refreshes The Genre
Image
Lashana Lynch and Eddie Redmayne make a compelling pair as the cat and mouse in The Day of the Jackal, the new TV show updating the novel by Frederick Forsyth and the 1973 movie. Redmayne plays the Jackal, the highly skilled assassin, with Lynch as an MI6 agent hot on his trail. It's hard to argue that there will always be a place for a well-crafted spy thriller on television, and while The Day of the Jackal wouldn't have had any trouble finding its audience, it pushes itself regardless. The series fulfills a niche that viewers have been waiting for.

Image
Eddie Redmayne found major inspiration from an unlikely place when preparing for his captivating role as an elusive and lone assassin (the titular Jackal) in Peacocks new spy thriller, The Day of the Jackal: an iconic, chameleonic singer. There's a brilliant woman called Alexandra Reynolds, shes a dancer who I first worked with on The Theory of Everything. We worked on the different physicalities of Jackal to pin down who he was, because he is this vessel in some ways. He's so enigmatic," explained Redmayne.

And there was this brilliant interview found with David Bowie from the 70s, Redmayne went on to say in a recent MovieWeb interview, noting that the interview article showcased the singer in a such a different light than his typical glam stage persona.
