Alex Berger, Larry Kasanoff, Shuzo John Shiota Set to Talk at Abidjan’s Sica as It Debates African AI, Shooting in Abidjan, Building a Globalized Market

Alex Berger, producer of “The Bureau” and “La Maison,” Larry Kasanoff, behind the “Mortal Kombat” franchise, and Shuzo John Shiota, producer of “Transformers: Prime” will join a swathe of African and European voices set to debate the future of Africa’s film and TV at this week’s third Sica market at Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Packing the conference are government decision makers, regulators, top network execs, fund heads, bank executives and talent from Ivory Coast, West Africa and the continent at large. African talent includes Burkino Faso writer-director Dani Kouyaté, a first prize winner at this year’s Fespaco fest for “Katanga, la danse des scorpions,” Nollywood actor-director Zack Orji (“Légitime Defence”) and Landry Agbadou, director of “Gla,” Ivory Coast’s first genre film and winner of 2024’s Nisa d’Or.

Joseph Mawle joins Half The Yellow Sun
Joseph Mawle of the upcoming Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Game Of Thrones has joined the cast of Half the Yellow Sun, including Thandie Newton, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anika Noni Rose and John Boyega. Variety reports that filming's currently taking place in Calabar, Nigeria and is based on the novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The story follows Biafra's struggle for an independent Nigerian republic, and is produced by Andrea Calderwod and Gail Egan. Newton and Rose play twins, Ejiofor is a professor and Mawle plays an English writer. Pic marks the feature directorial debut of Nigerian theatre helmer, playwright and novelist Biyi Bandele, who also scripts. Onyeka Onwenu, Genevieve Nnaji and Zack Orji of Nigeria also form part of the cast for Half the Yellow Son, exec produced by Muhtar Bakare and Yewande Sadiku...
