70 Hilarious Gilbert Gottfried Moments from His Friends and Family on What Would Have Been His 70th Birthday
Image
Three years ago, the world of comedy lost a true original. Gilbert Gottfried may have been best known for playing the parrot Iago in Aladdin — and for the dirty jokes he spouted in the last two decades of his career — but his style of comedy was entirely his own. His stand-up material, which he began performing at age 15, was a surreal experience filled with obscure — often, even, unknowable — pop-culture references combined with bizarre rants about aliens and Nazis.

He hit the mainstream with a one-year stint on Saturday Night Live before appearing in films like Problem Child and Beverly Hills Cop II as well lending his voice to hundreds of cartoons. He never stopped doing stand-up either, as he was a fixture in comedy clubs and a frequent panelist at Friars Club and Comedy Central roasts. Just weeks after the terrorist attacks in 2001, he famously bombed with a 9/11 joke at a Hugh Hefner roast,...

Jeffrey Tambor spoke out today about his Transparent sexual harassment allegations during an appearance on Gilbert Gottfried’s Amazing Colossal satellite radio show.

The actor told Gottfried and co-host Frank Santopadre that he “never, ever, ever, ever intended to make anyone feel uncomfortable — ever. It’s just not who I am.”

Jeffrey Tambor Reflects on ‘Transparent’ Firing: ‘I’m Sorry It Ended the Way It Did’
Jeffrey Tambor at an event for Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008)
Jeffrey Tambor appeared on Gilbert Gottfried’s SiriusXM show on Thursday and took the opportunity to reflect on the experience of being fired from “Transparent” amid allegations of sexual harassment.

“There were instances where my interaction with these lovely people could have been mistaken way other than how I intended. I have profoundly apologized — and I apologize now if I made anyone, anyone feel vulnerable,” Tambor said. “And I’m sorry it ended the way it did.”

Tambor was fired from the Amazon series in 2018, following accusations that he harassed two trans women on the set, including costar Trace Lysette and his personal assistant Van Barnes. At the time, Tambor admitted to being “difficult” and “mean” on set, but denied the allegations of misconduct.

Jeffrey Tambor’s character was ultimately killed off the series, which wrapped its run with a feature-length musical finale last fall.

Jeffrey Tambor is reflecting on his much-discussed departure from Transparent, the groundbreaking Amazon series that starred the actor in a transgender role for four seasons before wrapping without him in the fall.

"I have profoundly apologized and I apologize," the actor says in a new interview with Gilbert Gottfried and Frank Santopadre for Gilbert Gottfried’s Colossal Show on SiriusXM, noting the rarity of him opening up about the unceremonious exit, "if I made anyone, anyone feel vulnerable, and I'm sorry."
