‘Industry’ Star Sagar Radia on Rishi’s Brutal Standalone Episode: ‘A Crazy Mindset to Be In’ | How I Did It
Image
The third season of “Industry” elevated the HBO drama series to new heights in creative ambition and audience awareness. A standalone episode focused on Rishi Ramdani, played by star Sagar Radia, is a prime example of the show’s evolution.

Episode 4, titled “White Mischief,” follows a day in the chaotic life of the Pierpoint associate — kicking off with the reveal that Rishi is deep in debt with loan sharks hot on his tail. The hour, written by series creators Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, shows how Rishi gambles and cheats his way out of the impossible situation as his personal life also begins to fall apart.

“It’s a crazy mindset to be in,” Sagar Radia told TheWrap in a new installment of How I Did It, presented by HBO. “The interesting thing about the gambling scenes was that it was my day one of shooting [this episode.] It was actually a really tough place to start.

‘Industry’ Star Marisa Abela Says Yasmin’s Romantic Choice Was ‘Inevitable’
Image
As heartbreaking as the Season 3 finale of “Industry” may have been for fans seeking a Yasmin and Robert romance, Marisa Abela sees her character’s ending as “inevitable.”

“The way that Myha’la as Harper makes the most cutthroat choice in terms of the industry and what she’s preparing to do, Yasmin makes the most cutthroat choice in terms of her own life,” Abela told TheWrap of her character.

After building up a will-they, won’t-they between Yasmin and Robert for three seasons, the friends finally have sex in “Infinite Largesse.” Yet minutes after their tryst in the countryside, Yasmin goes back to Lumi CEO Henry Muck (Kit Harington) and accepts his proposal. It’s a decision that ultimately comes down to two different forms of security for Yasmin. Does she go with the man she loves, or the man whose wealth and reputation will allow the publicly disgraced Yasmin to re-enter high society?...

Image
New month, new horror recommendations from Deep Cuts Rising. This installment’s five selections reflect the month of June 2024.

Regardless of how they came to be here, or what they’re about, these past movies can generally be considered overlooked, forgotten or unknown.

This month’s offerings include a father gone mad, deadly dares, and more.

High Desert Kill (1989)

Directed by Harry Falk.

Summer officially begins in June, so why not watch a horror movie whose story is set under the hot sun? The TV oddity High Desert Kill seems like it’s about another camping trip gone wrong, with its male cast setting off for the New Mexico wilderness. Indeed they end up being hunted, however, the predator is not of this world.

Both the slow pace and the limitations of television — that orgy sequence could have...

The Best Atmospheric Thriller Movies Like Netflix's River Wild
Image
River Wild recently dropped on Netflix, quickly becoming one of the most-watched movies on the streaming platform. The thriller was an entertaining addition to the genre. One of the best aspects of the plot was how the dangerous river setting added to the thrill, creating an atmospheric fight for survival.

Thrillers are known for storylines, such as the one in River Wild, in which characters have to survive a dangerous situation, usually against an enemy trying to harm them. For fans of these atmospheric thrillers, there are some other great movies that utilize an interesting setting to add to the overall tone of the story.

Anjelica Huston and Donal McCann in The Dead (1987)
The Ledge - Jennie Kermode - 17490
Anjelica Huston and Donal McCann in The Dead (1987)
From 2010’s The Dead and its sequel to 2015’s Never Let Go, Howard J Ford has formed a habit of cracking out intense, highly distinctive thrillers featuring terrific stunt work, and The Ledge will not disappoint his fans. It begins with a simple but powerful premise. Kelly (Brittany Ashworth) is on a climbing holiday with her friend Sophie (Anaïs Parello) when they meet a group of young men. Kelly is tired and goes to bed early, but Sophie wants to stay up drinking with them. When things get out of hand and Sophie is killed, Kelly, who decided to go looking for her, captures the act on her camera, but is seen doing so. There’s no way she can outpace four guys, all taller than her, on the ground, so the only thing she can go is to grab her climbing gear and go up.

What follows is a.

A lone witness to a shocking crime. A group of young men determined to prevent her from sharing her story. She can’t outpace them on the ground. There’s no-one else around from whom to seek help. She has only one way out: to head straight up the mountain beside them and trust in her superior climbing skills to give her the edge.

This is the set-up for Howard J Ford’s The Ledge, which screened as part of the Frightfest strand at the 2022 Glasgow Film Festival, and if you’ve followed his career to date, you’ll know that you can expect some thrilling action scenes powered by impressive stunt work. When we meet up to discuss the film he begins by thanking me for a review I wrote of one of his previous films, Never Let Go, and pointing...

The Ledge Review – FrightFest Glasgow 2022
Image
High concept, tiny budget thrillers are ironically, something of a cliff edge for filmmakers; they’re often either a breeding ground for clever innovation, or they totally fall apart at the seams with wild intentions but not enough resources to follow through properly. And while Howard J. Ford’s The Ledge definitely boasts a meaty genre set-up that makes for a killer hook, actually pulling it off ends up much harder than it looks.

Experienced climber Kelly (Brittany Ashworth) finds her gorgeous European mountain-climbing vacation taking a turn for the nightmarish, when her best friend Sophie winds up dead at the hands of a gang of hyper-masculine city bros. With a video of the attack in her rucksack and only one escape route, she makes for the nearest cliff, soon finding herself trapped without supplies, suspended hundreds of feet in the air, and with the killers giving chase.

It’s...

Review: The Ledge Has a Thrilling Premise That Loses Its Grip
Image
Running away from a villain is familiar in thrillers and horror films. These scenes take place primarily on foot, in open or enclosed spaces, and often in the dark to intensify the stakes and possible deadly outcome for the film’s protagonist – but they always put up a fight. It isn’t often we see a chase executed in such a unique way like in The Ledge. Howard J. Ford’s film sees a woman’s life literally hang in the balance as she climbs the face of the 11 thousand foot Dolomite Mountains to escape the hunters on her tail.

Gearing up for an epic climb is Kelly (Brittany Ashworth) and Sophie (Anaïs Parello). An opening shot of the Italian mountain range accompanied by an energetic score emphasizes what a thrilling feat this will be for them, but that’s shattered when a group of guys shows up. Josh (Ben Lamb...

Q&A: Writer/Director Mathieu Turi on Blending Genres and Working with Javier Botet for Hostile
Stranded in a car wreck in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, Juliette (Brittany Ashworth) has to fend off a strange creature who isn't interested in giving her a hand in Hostile. With the new horror movie out now on VOD platforms and DVD from 4Digital Media, we caught up with writer/director Mathieu Turi to discuss combining genres, the influence of Richard Matheson's I Am Legend, and working with Javier Botet.

Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Mathieu. How and when did you first come up with the idea for Hostile?

Mathieu Turi: I previously did two short films, Sons of Chaos (2010), a post-apocalyptic/action/creature short which received official selection in multiple film festivals around the world and officially competed at Sitges in 2011. The second film, Broken (2012), is a love story/drama set in an elevator. So, in a way, Hostile is a mix of the two short films.

New Trailer for Post-Apocalyptic Horror 'Hostile' from Mathieu Turi
"Every mistake you make, you make it for a reason." 4Digital Media has released a new trailer for a post-apocalyptic survival horror film titled Hostile, from French filmmaker Mathieu Turi making his directorial debut. We posted a slick teaser trailer for this last fall, and finally have another new trailer to promote its upcoming Us release in September this year. Not to be confused with the Christian Bale western Hostiles, this film is about a woman, played by Brittany Ashworth, who is a survivor of an apocalypse and ends up crashing her truck while driving around. She wakes up at night, and must battle strange creatures that roam the wastelands in the dark. The cast includes Grégory Fitoussi, Javier Botet, Jay Benedict, and David Gasman. This still reminds me a bit of I Am Legend, but this trailer makes it seem somewhat more unique. Here's the new official trailer (+ poster) for Mathieu Turi's Hostile,...

Horror Channel Frightfest Interview: Mathieu Turi talks ‘Hostile’
Ahead of the UK premiere of his debut feature Hostile at the Horror Channel Frightfest Halloween event, director Mathieu Turi shares his admiration for Tarantino, describes the challenges of filming in three continents and reveals his ‘magic hour’.

You were born in Cannes so you grew up with film all around? When did you know for sure you wanted to direct?

I think it’s always been there. As a child, I used to steal my dad’s VHS camera to make mini-movies. They were basically all about my Jurassic Park toys eating my dog or invading the garden. Later, I did more elaborate short films with friends, instead of studying. Then, I remember watching Braveheart and the making of the movie. For the first time, I knew that directing was something I wanted to do for a living.

You have been second unit director and assistant director on numerous...

Crucifixion Trailer Exposes Shocking Truth Behind Nun-Killing Demon
The Crucifixion (2017)
Fans of The Conjuring franchise will be treated to yet another spin-off when The Nun hits theaters next summer, but if you don't want to wait that long, some of the key creative members of the franchise are bringing another terrifying nun tale to theaters with The Crucifixion. Lionsgate has just released the first trailer and poster for The Crucifixion, which is inspired by true events, but not connected to The Conjuring franchise, although it still looks just as terrifying. This movie doesn't follow a possessed nun, but rather a nun that may have been killed by someone who was possessed.

This horror tale centers on a journalist's surreal, supernatural investigation in a nun's shocking death. American reporter Nicole (Sophie Cookson) travels to investigate the possible murder of Sister Marinescu, sadistically crucified by a priest to vanquish a demon. As Nicole uncovers the weird tales behind this horrific incident, disturbing...
