Sophie Kauer is a British-German actress and cellist. She was discovered by Avy Kaufman through an international casting call.
Todd Field's TÁR (2022), starring Cate Blanchett, was Sophie's feature film acting debut. Her portrayal of Russian Cellist, Olga Metkina, was praised as 'a standout' (The Face), 'scene-stealing' (Variety) and 'star-making' (TotalFilm) with renowned composer John Williams describing her as 'an extraordinary actor and consummate musician'. Her performance won her a Best Supporting Actress award and she was also chosen by the Times as a Breakthrough nominee for the 2023 South Bank Sky Arts Awards. She was named 'One to Watch' by People Magazine and a 'Rising Star of Stage and Screen for 2023' by the Evening Standard.
Sophie also enjoys a career as a concert cellist, appearing as a soloist around the globe. With her debut EP, Unsung, recently released by Deutsche Grammophon, she became the youngest artist to reach no 1 on the Classical On-Demand Audio Streaming Chart. She is a Classic FM 'Rising Star' and has been nominated for an Opus Klassik Award.
