Saswata Chatterjee plays cop in Bengali streaming series 'Abar Proloy'

Mumbai, July 19 (Ians) Actor Saswata Chatterjee will be seen playing a quirky cop in the upcoming Bengali series ‘Abar Proloy’. The series, which also stars Saswata Chatterjee, Gaurav Chakrabarty, Paran Bandopadhyay, Ritwick Chakraborty, Koushani Mukherjee and June Maliah in pivotal roles, has been directed by Raj Chakraborty. The trailer of the series was unveiled on Wednesday.

Spanning 10 episodes, this massy Bengali cop drama revives the beloved character of Animesh Dutta (played by Saswata Chatterjee), a special crime branch officer who is sent to Sunderbans to hunt down the deadly mastermind who is invisible for years and is running a wide-spread human trafficking racket. Animesh plunks into a cobweb of crimes to fulfil his mission, starting off by saving a minor Dugga, from the clutches of ‘Hujjas’, a gang of young hooligans ruling the island.

Actress Paayel Sarkar joins Bjp, announces a new beginning

Kolkata, Feb 25: Star wars continue in poll-bound West Bengal as the Mamata Banerjee led ruling Trinamool Congress and its arch rival Bharatiya Janata Party (Bjp) are busy roping in film actors in their respective political folds ahead of the forthcoming state Assembly elections.

Kolkata's Tollywood actress Paayel Sarkar on Thursday joined Bjp in the presence of party's state unit president Dilip Ghosh and other senior leaders.

Earlier, actor Yash Dasgupta also joined the saffron brigade in the presence of senior Bjp leaders like party's West Bengal in-charge Kailash Vijayvargiya, National vice-president Mukul Roy and Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Dasgupta.

Kolkata, Nov 12: With Bollywood's 'Badshah' Shahrukh Khan and 'Kashmir Ki Kali' Sharmila Tagore by her side, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has taken the hitherto elite Kolkata Film Festival to the masses while giving the exponents of the popular genre of Bengali films a pride of place in the fest.

As the ceremonial extravaganza unfolded at the sprawling Netaji Indoor Stadium, instead of its usual venue, the Nandan Film Centre, and a galaxy of cinema stars descended, the atmosphere echoed with loud claps and cheers.
