The Wild Nights and Free-Love Crusade of Labelle
Image
This story was originally published in the July 3, 1975 issue of Rolling Stone.

First there is the voice from out of the darkness. Patti Labelle Escorted Off Stage Mid Concert Following Bomb Threat

Patti Labelle’s Milwaukee concert was cut short Saturday after a bomb threat. Labelle was rushed off stage and the audience were forced to evacuate the venue.

In a video shared to Twitter, the 78-year-old singer was speaking to fans at the Riverside Theater when security arrived and moved her away from the stage. Labelle, who was mid-performance, yelled out “Wait!” as she attempted to receive flowers from fans, not understanding why the concert had come to a halt.

After being informed of the situation, Labelle was escorted offstage by security.

My love goes out to you Patti Labelle. You tried to make it such a loving and joyful holiday and someone had to ruin it for you #pattilabelle #Milwaukee #riversidetheatre #threat pic.twitter.com/VBRqANgA3D

Sarah Dash Dies: Groundbreaking ‘Lady Marmalade’ Singer, Labelle Co-Founder And Actress Was 76
Sarah Dash
Powerhouse R&B singer and actress Sarah Dash has died at age 76, according to Trenton, N.J. Mayor Reed Gusciora.

“Our resident legend and Trenton’s very first music ambassador, Sarah Dash, has passed away,” Gusciora wrote on Facebook today.

A Trenton native, Dash was co-founder of Patti Labelle & The Bluebelles, which opened for The Rolling Stones in the 1960s. With Labelle, Dash went on to form the pioneering R&b/rock group Labelle which was more adventurous musically and sartorially than its predecessor.

The group hit its peak in the mid-seventies with the song “Lady Marmalade,” which went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The song went to the top of the charts again when it was famously re-recorded by Christina Aguilera, Mýa, Pink and rapper Lil’ Kim for the Moulin Rouge! soundtrack.

After working with The Stones, Dash also performed in The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s...
