Star Trek: Discoverys Captain Burnham Opening Starfleet Academy Is Ironic
Image
Starfleet Academy was reopened by Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) in Star Trek: Discovery season 4, which is ironic. The next Star Trek series and a spinoff of Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy continues the 32nd-century era, with Academy Award-winner Holly Hunter cast as the Chancellor and Captain, while Emmy winner Paul Giamatti plays Starfleet Academy's recurring villain. The seeds for Starfleet Academy, however, were planted in Star Trek: Discovery season 4.

A hundred years before then-Commander Burnham and the USS Discovery arrived in 3188 and 3189, respectively, a catastrophe known as the Burn crippled the galaxy. The Burn detonated the dilithium in starships' antimatter warp cores, destroying thousands of vessels and making warp travel impossible. The United Federation of Planets broke apart. Becoming an isolationist world, United Earth expelled the Federation and Starfleet, and Starfleet Academy was shut down. But after the USS Discovery solved the mystery of the Burn and restored warp travel,...

You can hear all about it in the video embedded above!

20 Awesome Women In Star Trek
Image
Star Trek celebrates strong female characters in leadership roles, reflecting a vision of equality in a futuristic utopia. Iconic women like Lt. Uhura and Captain Burnham have paved the way for diversity and inclusivity in the Star Trek universe. From powerful captains to clever doctors and empathetic counselors, the women of Star Trek bring compassion, intelligence, and strength.

Star Trek has introduced an incredible cast of truly amazing women throughout its nearly 60-year history. In the utopian future of Star Trek, women can climb the ranks of Starfleet to achieve the same positions of authority as their male counterparts. While this ideal was somewhat hindered by the landscape of the 1960s, modern Star Trek fully embraces Gene Roddenberry's vision of a peaceful future where all kinds are welcome. From Lt. Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) on Star Trek: The Original Series to Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) on Star Trek: Discovery,...

8 Great Things Star Trek Discovery Added to the Star Trek Universe
Image
This Star Trek: Discovery article contains spoilers.

Star Trek: Discovery has always been about change. The series started with a bang in 2017, complete with radically-altered Klingons and a heretofore unseen adopted sister to Spock. From that audacious beginning, Discovery became something more like a standard Star Trek series, while also retaining its own unique (and much more emotional) approach to storytelling.

To be sure, Discovery isn’t for everyone. Its focus on single protagonist Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and its emphasis on emotion over logic made it very different from most Trek series. But even the most traditional Trekkie can appreciate its best major additions to franchise lore.

Into the 32nd Century

It’s hard for Trekkies to avoid rolling our eyes when we read announcements about upcoming Trek projects. Another reboot, another prequel. Sure, Strange New Worlds has been wonderful, but that’s the exception. Too much of new...

Discovery Just Brought a Star Trek Enterprise Character to 32nd Century Canon
Image
This Star Trek: Discovery article contains spoilers.

Since 2020, Star Trek: Discovery has harbored a strange sci-fi temporal anomaly. Starting with the episode “Die Trying,” in season 3, director David Cronenberg—the mastermind who gave us The Fly and more recently, Crimes of the Future—has appeared semi-regularly as a mysterious figure known only as “Dr. Kovich.” As Discovery’s latter seasons have gone on, Kovich’s true purpose has become more clear, even if we don’t fully understand why he wears that all-black, somewhat contemporary-looking suit.

While it’s been tempting to say that David Cronenberg has just been playing David Cronenberg this entire time, the Discovery series finale actually fully answers the question of who Kovich really is and his larger role in Star Trek canon. In fact, Cronenberg’s strange character is revealed to be, perhaps, one of the most crucial people in the entire universe.

Kovich Is...

Star Trek: Discovery fits the USS Mitchell with a Pathway drive, following Voyager's tests. Starfleet explores using a Pathway drive to intercept Breen utilizing transwarp tunnels. Saru takes a shuttle on a diplomatic mission to avoid aggression, potentially revealing more about the Pathway drive.

Star Trek: Discovery has introduced a brand-new type of warp drive, and it's been fitted aboard the USS Mitchell, namesake of the much-missed actor Kenneth Mitchell. Voyager Is Why Star Trek Is Replacing Discovery’s Spore Drive
Image
Warning: Contains Spoilers for Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 1, "Red Directive"

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 bids farewell to the spore drive, as USS Voyager's pathway drive takes over in the 32nd century. Commander Stamets reveals Starfleet's decision to halt spore drive development, making Discovery unique in the Star Trek franchise. The USS Voyager-j's pathway drive paves the way for safer and sustainable warp travel in Star Trek's future.

The 32nd century's version of the USS Voyager is the reason that Star Trek: Discovery season 5 is abandoning Starfleet's revolutionary spore drive technology. Since they arrived in the 32nd century in season 3, the USS Discovery crew's one-of-a-kind spore drive has represented a potential replacement for dilithium-reliant warp travel in Star Trek's future. However, various obstacles, most notably rogue Risan scientist Dr. Ruon Tarka (Shawn Doyle) and his theft of the only working prototype have prevented the spore drive from being rolled out.

Star Trek: Discovery Fixed Saru’s Problem, Then Repeated The Same Captain Mistake
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Star Trek: Discovery Season 5

Star Trek: Discovery season 5 resolves Saru's role issue but introduces another with Captain Rayner as First Officer. Michael Burnham's decision to make Rayner her Number One doesn't solve the problem of having two Captains on the bridge. The dynamic between Captains and First Officers in Star Trek: Discovery keeps changing each season, adding new layers to the ongoing story.

Star Trek: Discovery season 5 seems to fix the problem of Captain Saru's (Doug Jones) role on the USS Discovery's crew, but the series immediately makes the same mistake again with Captain Rayner (Callum Keith Rennie). In Star Trek: Discovery season 4, Captain Saru voluntarily cedes command of the USS Discovery to the newly-promoted Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), which leaves Star Trek: Discovery with two characters holding the rank of Captain at the same time. Discovery Season 5 Should Give Saru His Best Star Trek Reward
Image
Captain Saru (Doug Jones) needs one more, big reward before Star Trek: Discovery season 5 ends. Paramount+'s flagship Star Trek series, Star Trek: Discovery, will be back for Star Trek: Discovery season 5, and here's everything we know about when Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the crew of the USS Discovery will return. Star Trek: Discovery is one of five new Star Trek series streaming on Paramount+, along with Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and the animated Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Prodigy. Star Trek: Discovery season 4 broke its own mold by focusing less on action, instead tackling the Dark Matter Anomaly — a season-long threat that led Burnham and the USS Discovery into a brand-new galaxy. Going where no one has gone before, Discovery made First Contact with Species 10-c, the alien creators of the Dma, so that they could save Earth from imminent catastrophe.

Discovery's Star Trek Strength Still Comes From Tos
Image
Star Trek: Discovery has been set in the 32nd century since season 3, but the series' strengths still come from its connection to its former 23rd-century Star Trek: The Original Series era. In Star Trek: Discovery's fifth and final season, Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the USS Discovery embark on a quest to find "the greatest treasure in the known galaxy." Discovery's new mission comes on the heels of back-to-back victories over existential threats to the United Federation of Planets - wins Burnham and her crew achieved because of what Star Trek era they came from.

Star Trek: Discovery was originally a prequel set in the mid-23rd century a decade before Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and the USS Enterprise's five-year mission chronicled in Tos. In fact, Michael Burnham's Tos ties run deep: as an orphaned child, Burnham was adopted by Ambassador Sarek (James Frain) and...

Star Trek Needs To Bring Back DS9's Cardassians
Image
It's time for Star Trek to revisit the Cardassians, the xenophobic species at the heart of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's central conflict. Introduced in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "The Wounded," the Cardassians were presented as a powerful adversary of the Federation, having engaged in an intense border war with Starfleet over several years. Not unlike the Romulans, Tng established the Cardassians as a paranoid, arrogant, highly secretive people.

The lore and society of the Cardassians would be developed exponentially on DS9. The titular space station was formerly known as Terok Nor, a Cardassian outpost in orbit of the planet Bajor, which the Cardassians had forcibly occupied for years. The Cardassians committed unspeakable atrocities against the Bajorans, a planet-wide trauma that would haunt the entire series. The Cardassians would align against the Federation in DS9's Dominion War, but they were eventually betrayed by their Dominion allies,...

Discovery Isn't The 32nd Century Federation Flagship (Should It Be?)
Image
The titular starship in Star Trek: Discovery isn't considered as the flagship of the United Federation of Planets in the 32nd century and there are several good reasons for and against it achieving this status. Flagship is an old naval term that refers to the lead vessel in a fleet of ships, commanded by a flag officer. Usually, this ship is the largest in the fleet, or the most heavily armed, most advanced, or best-known of the ships. The USS Discovery is definitely advanced, with its game-changing spore drive, but it hasn't yet been bestowed with the honor of being named the flagship of the Federation.

Although Star Trek is inspired by naval traditions, the flagship term is also used by Starfleet to identify the ship that best embodies the Federation's core values of exploration and diplomacy. Despite being called Discovery, the ship commanded by Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green...

Discovery Changed 2 Star Trek Tropes For The Better
Image
Two long-standing Star Trek tropes were changed for the better by Star Trek: Discovery season 4. Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the USS Discovery faced the direst threat yet to the United Federation of Planets: the Dark Matter Anomaly that could destroy entire planets. Burnham's mission to stop the Dma required the personal intervention of two authority figures she answers to: Admiral Charles Vance (Oded Fehr) and the new Federation President, Laira Rillak (Chelah Horsdal).

Admiral Vance was introduced in Star Trek: Discovery season 3. Vance had the burden of running Starfleet during the era of The Burn, which made warp travel impossible and broke the Federation apart, isolating its few remaining member worlds. Rillak joined Star Trek: Discovery at the start of season 4 as the newly elected head of the Federation. Rillak's plans to reinstate Starfleet's mission of galactic exploration in a post-Burn galaxy were immediately stymied by the arrival of the Dma.

Discovery Season 4 Dropping Burnham Vs. Stamets Was A Mistake
Image
A potential feud between Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Commander Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp) was dropped by Star Trek: Discovery season 4, which was a mistake. In Star Trek: Discovery season 5, Captain Burnham and the crew of the USS Discovery-a will embark on a quest for "the greatest treasure in the known galaxy." It could be a far cry from Burnham and friends' dire crisis in Star Trek: Discovery season 3's finale, where Michael had to rescue her ship from Osyraa (Janet Kidder) and the Emerald Chain.

At the end of Star Trek: Discovery season 3, the Emerald Chain commandeered the USS Discovery with the intention of stealing the dilithium in the Verubin Nebula. But Osyraa needed Stamets, without whom Discovery's spore drive wouldn't work. Michael knew this, so she banished Stamets from Discovery, despite his pleas to allow him to jump the ship to the Nebula and rescue his family,...

Discovery Season 4 Finally Broke The Show’s Weirdest Captain Trope
Image
One of the weirdest Star Trek: Discovery tropes about the USS Discovery's Captain finally ended in season 4. In the upcoming Star Trek: Discovery season 5, Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and her eponymous starship embark on a hunt for "the greatest treasure in the known galaxy." It promises to be a welcome reset toward galactic adventure following the dire cataclysms of Star Trek: Discovery's previous seasons.

Star Trek: Discovery had a strange habit of not settling on who was Captain of the Discovery in its first three seasons. The show began with the Disco controlled by Captain Gabriel Lorca (Jason Isaacs), who was eventually exposed as a sinister imposter from the Mirror Universe. Vice Admiral Katrina Cornwell (Jayne Brook) briefly sat in Discovery's Captain's chair, and Commander Saru (Doug Jones) also served as Acting Captain. Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) commanded the Discovery in season 2, and Saru was promoted to...

Discovery Became More Like Tng Than You Think
Image
In season 4, Star Trek: Discovery subtly became more and more like Star Trek: The Next Generation. Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the USS Discovery faced a threat to the entire galaxy that required their starship to cross the Galactic Barrier into a new galaxy to make contact with Species 10-c. But all throughout, Discovery's crew was processing trauma and their dynamics gradually began to resemble the crew of the USS Enterprise-d in Tng.

When Gene Roddenberry created Star Trek: The Next Generation, he had a utopian vision of the 24th century and decreed that there would be "no conflict" among the Starfleet Officers on the Enterprise. This rule caused issues with the writing staff, who had to figure out a way to fashion drama when the main characters of the show didn't argue and always got along. The solution Tng's creative team came up with was for conflict...

President Laira Rillak (Chelah Horsdal) made a promise at the start of Star Trek: Discovery season 4 that the series delivered in an unexpected way. Discovery season 4 picked up 5 months after Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the crew of the USS Discovery solved the mystery of The Burn. After they identified and rescued the cause of The Burn, an orphaned Kelpien named Su'Kal (Bill Irwin), Discovery's crew was able to return dilithium and warp travel to the broken United Federation of Planets.

Star Trek: Discovery eschewed the franchise's core mission of exploration in favor of becoming a serialized, action-packed series where each season revolves around a dire threat to the galaxy. Star Trek: Discovery season 1 was about the Federation fighting the Klingon War of 2256-2257, with a multi-episode sojourn into the Mirror Universe. Star Trek: Discovery season 2 was a chase for the time-traveling Red Angel (Sonja Sohn) that turned...

Every Change That Happened Between Star Trek: Discovery Seasons 3 & 4
Image
A great deal happened between Star Trek: Discovery seasons 3 and 4 that changed the face of Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets. Star Trek: Discovery will return with season 5, which promises a tonal shift for the serialized series taking place in the distant 32nd century. In Star Trek: Discovery season 5, Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) will embark on a hunt for the "greatest treasure in the galaxy," which could showcase a 32nd-century era that has markedly changed in the scant few years since Burnham permanently time-traveled from the mid-23nd century.

Michael Burnham and the USS Discovery solved the mystery of The Burn in Star Trek: Discovery season 3. They discovered the source of the galactic calamity that wiped out all dilithium and warp travel was a Kelpien named Su'Kal (Bill Irwin) who was orphaned in a nebula imbued with dilithium. A hundred years after The Burn, the United Federation of Planets collapsed,...

Discovery Season 5 Could Be The Federation's Voyage Home
Image
The United Federation of Planets could make its voyage home to Earth in Star Trek: Discovery season 5. One of the most shocking changes made by Star Trek: Discovery season 3 was Earth no longer being part of the Federation in the 32nd century. Soon after The Burn eliminated warp travel in the Alpha Quadrant, Earth banished the Federation and became an isolationist planet for the next century, and reverted to being known as United Earth. But United Earth decided to rejoin the Federation at the end of Star Trek: Discovery season 4, and this could open the door to the Federation returning to its homeworld.

When faced with destruction from the Dark Matter Anomaly in Star Trek: Discovery season 4, United Earth decided to join the Federation's effort to initiate First Contact with the Dma's creators, Species 10-c. United Earth's Captain Ndoye (Phumzile Sitole) joined the Federation's delegation aboard the USS Discovery-a...

Discovery's Replacement For Emperor Georgiou Is What Burnham Needed
Image
The introduction of President Laira Rillak (Chelah Horsdal) in Star Trek: Discovery season 4 provided a foil that Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) needed after the departure of Emperor Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh). Since Michael Burnham's debut as Star Trek: Discovery's central character, she always needed a mother figure as a counterpart who could hone and channel Burnham's raw talent and penchant for rebellious, heroic acts. Burnham was orphaned at 10 and came to live with Sarek (James Frain) on Vulcan, where his human wife, Amanda (Mia Kirshner), became Michael's mother.

When Burnham served aboard the USS Shenzhou, Captain Philippa Georgiou became her mentor and mother figure as well as her Captain. Michael's relationship with Georgiou got stranger when she met Phillipa's Mirror Universe doppelganger, who came aboard the USS Discovery. Emperor Georgiou felt even closer to Michael because she was the adoptive mother to Burnham's evil Mirror double. Georgiou...

Discovery’s Burnham Always Breaks 1 Big Star Trek Captain Rule
Image
Starfleet has a rule that starship captains can't be emotionally compromised, but Star Trek: Discovery's Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) breaks it constantly and gets away with it. This rule, Regulation 619, states that a commanding officer is required to relieve themselves of command if their current mission left them emotionally compromised and unable to make rational decisions. Regulation 619 has been evident throughout the various Star Trek TV series and movies, but it was most dramatically implemented in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek 2009.

James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) became Acting Captain of the USS Enterprise when he coerced Spock (Zachary Quinto) into violently demonstrating he was emotionally compromised by the destruction of Vulcan. However, Star Trek: Discovery's Captain Burnham, maintains command of the USS Discovery-a even when she is emotionally compromised, which happens often. This was never more evident than in Star Trek: Discovery season 4 when Burnham was at odds with her lover,...

‘Star Trek: Discovery’s Sonequa Martin-Green & EP On Stacey Abrams’ Very Presidential Appearance In Season 4 Finale
Image
Spoiler Alert: This post contains details of today’s Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 finale

Stacey Abrams may be running again to be Governor of Georgia, but the avowed Star Trek fan makes a pretty good President of United Earth in the 32nd century, as was proven in the Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 finale that launched today.

“Nothing to discuss,” she says to Federation President Laira Rillak (Chelah Horsdal) right near the end of the Michelle Paradise penned and Olatunde Osunsanmi directed episode on Paramount+. “United Earth is ready right now to rejoin the Federation, and nothing could make me happier than to say those words,” Abram’s regal leader adds.

Coming at the end of a vociferous season of the Alex Kurtzman and Paradise co-showrun series and the heart thumping “Coming Home” finale, the surprise cameo by Abrams was treated like a state secret. Yet, at the end of cycle...

‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Showrunner on Franchise Connections — and That New Federation President
Image
Paramount+’s “Star Trek” franchise keeps shaking things up.

Its flagship series “Discovery,” now in its fourth season, has a new leader in the captain’s chair: Sonequa Martin-Green’s Michael Burnham, whose remarkable arc over the series’ previous 39 episodes set up this moment of her ascension to be especially fulfilling.

But “Discovery” is also doing something that “Trek” has never fully embraced before: interconnectedness among its various shows airing at the moment (especially “Picard”) as well as those that wrapped more than 20 years ago, such as “Deep Space Nine” and “Voyager.” Even when those particular shows aired simultaneously in the ‘90s, they occupied clearly separate lanes, with almost no connections between them. Call it the influence of MCU storytelling — something that also seems planned for Disney+’s explosion of “Star Wars” series in the near future — or simply cannier brand management, but in the first episode of “Discovery” Season...

Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 Episode 1 Easter Eggs & References
Image
This Star Trek: Discovery article contains spoilers for Season 4, Episode 1. Read our full review here.

The crew of the USS Discovery might be firmly established in a century well beyond the rest of Star Trek canon, but that doesn’t mean the rich history of the Final Frontier isn’t always with them. In fact, even the title of the very first episode of Star Trek: Discovery, Season 4, is an Easter egg. “Kobayashi Maru,” references Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and the famous no-win scenario first introduced in that film. The idea of a no-win scenario is a big deal for Captain Burnham in this first episode of Season 4. But, that very big thematic concept isnt’ the only Trekkie call back in the debut episode of Disco’s latest season.

From shout-outs to Captain Archer from Enterprise, to the tech that makes transporters beam you up, here every...

Star Trek: Burnham’s Kobayashi Maru Likely Predates Captain Kirk’s

This Star Trek: Discovery article contains spoilers for Season 4, Episode 1.

Star Trek captains are like secret agents or base jumpers: they’re constantly trying to figure out how to not die while, at the same time, recognizing that the dangerous situation they’re in are partially their fault. In Star Trek: Discovery’s Season 4 premiere episode — “Kobayashi Maru” — Captain Michael Burnham is forced to relearn the most hardcore starship captain lesson in all of Trek: You can’t always win and you can’t always save everyone.

The basic idea of the Kobayashi Maru has its roots in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and since 1982 has created a warning for the entire Star Trek canon: Even if you think certain main characters are protected by plot armor, the non-win scenario is always there, threatening to make Trek get real. In Discovery’s “Kobayashi Maru,” this idea comes back in a big way,...

Stockard Channing at an event for 3 Needles (2005)
Firefly Lane and the Problem with Aging up and Down
Stockard Channing at an event for 3 Needles (2005)
Stockard Channing was 33 when she played teenager Rizzo in Grease. Angelia Jolie was 29 when she played Colin Farrell’s mother in Alexander – only one year older than he was.

Films and shows cast actors outside their own age all the time, and it’s not unusual for actors to be aged up or aged down when a show or film takes place over a long time period, but in Firefly Lane this really jars.

Tully and Kate are best friends since the age of 14 back in 1974 – Firefly Lane follows the journey of the two, from young teens coping with family and school, to ambitious 20-somethings in the 1980s, to their lives at 43, with Kate going through a divorce and Tully juggling a successful TV career.

Teenage Tully and Kate are played by Ali Skovbye (aged 18) and Roan Curtis (24 as of Feb 2021), while 20-something Tully and Kate and 40-something Tully and...

Firefly Lane Season 2: Unanswered Questions From the Netflix show
Image
Love, loss and lifelong friendship is at the heart of Netflix’s latest binge worthy drama. Based on Kristin Hannah’s novel of the same name, Firefly Lane follows the decades-long friendship of Tully (Katherine Heigl) and Kate (Sarah Chalke) who meet as teen neighbors living on the titular street and are bonded by a chance encounter after a traumatic event. Over ten episodes the show follows the friends at different stages of their lives – as teenage girls, as young women embarking on careers and family and as forty-somethings juggling different sets of life events

The show doesn’t cover the entirety of the book and also makes some major diversions from the plot, adding in and taking out various characters. There’s also a sequel to the novel called Fly Away, so there’s heaps of material should Netflix decide to renew for a second series, and that’s...

Logan Williams Dies, The Flash and Supernatural Actor Was 16
A week flooded with terrible news continues as it's been reported that the young, talented actor Logan Williams has sadly passed away. A teenage television actor, Williams is perhaps best known for starring as the young Barry Allen in the CW series The Flash. Although no cause of death has yet been revealed, Williams is said to have died suddenly on Thursday. Only days away from his 17th birthday, Williams was just 16 years old.

Marlyse Williams, Logan's mother, tells The Tri-City News she's "absolutely devastated" by his passing. "I am not able to hug my parents who lost their only grandchild," Marlyse adds, noting she's been left to mourn the loss alone due to the recent physical distancing restrictions. Like his fans, Marlyse is also thinking about what could have been with Logan's life and career, making the news all the more heartbreaking. "With his talent and gorgeous looks, Logan...

It's the End of the Worlds in New Trailer For The Final Season of The Man In The High Castle
We’ve got a pretty crazy trailer for the upcoming fourth and final season of The Man in the High Castle before it returns to Amazon Prime next month. It looks like the final season will see all the rising tension that was building in season three really come to a head and explore Juliana Crain (Alexa Davalos) and her ability to travel between realities and save her world from impending doom.

The series also stars Rufus Sewell, Chelah Horsdal, Joel De La Fuente, Jason O’Mara, and DJ Qualls. I’m not caught up on this series, but this trailer makes me want to get on it, because it looks incredibly exciting and like it’s going to tell an intriguing story that will finish the series up while doing it major justice.

Nazi Empires and Inter-Dimensional Portals Collide in ‘Man in the High Castle’ Trailer
Amazon has unveiled the gripping new trailer for the final season of their alternate history hit, The Man in the High Castle, set to premiere November 15th.

The new season finds Juliana Crain (Alexa Davalos) and the rest of the resistance ramping up their fight against their Nazi rulers, still fueled by the possibility that, in another world, the Allies won World War II. “There are very few things in this world worth dying for,” she says at the start of the clip. “Those things do exist, but when there...

The fact that you can hear The Man in the High Castle‘s young Nazis chanting the exact same phrases as real-life, present-day racist hordes do is as chilling as it is coincidental, the show’s cast and executive producers say.

“We did the ‘blood and soil’ before Charlottesville,” Ep Isa Dick Hackett said, referring to the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Va. During the violent event, white supremacists chanted Nazi slogans including the one that Hackett mentions, which Hitler youth cry during the Amazon drama’s Season 3 finale.
