Pedro Pascal Is in Talks To Star in 'Andor' Creator Tony Gilroy's 'Behemoth!'
Image
Tony Gilroy may be about to reunite with a fellow Star Wars veteran for his next film. A new report from Deadline revealed that Pedro Pascal, fresh off his turn as Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, is in talks to lead Behemoth! from the writer-director. A deal has not been finalized, though all indications are that there should be no problems bringing the Mandalorian star aboard despite his very busy schedule. Searchlight Pictures recently joined the exciting new project as well, which is ramping up quickly as principal photography aims to begin this fall in Los Angeles.

Plot details are being kept well under wraps at this time, though the director has teased that Behemoth! will follow a cellist. Whatever the case, Gilroy's next project will have a lot of eyes on it. The two-time Oscar nominee hasn't directed anything since 2012's The Bourne Legacy. However, he's proven to be quite adept,...

Matt Damon's Controversial $334M Action Movie Hits Netflix Top 10 8 Years Later
Image
The Great Wall, starring Matt Damon, has made it to the Netflix top 10 in the US, ranking No. 4 for the week. The movie faced criticism for promoting a white savior narrative and whitewashing the cast, among other issues. Despite making $334.9 million worldwide on a $150 million budget, The Great Wall is considered a flop in Matt Damon's career.

Matt Damons The Great Wall has made it onto the Netflix top 10 in the US. Why Matt Damon's The Great Wall Is So Controversial
Image
The Great Wall, starring Matt Damon, faced controversy for its casting choices and white savior narrative. Despite a star-studded cast and crew, the film struggled with poor reception and disappointing box office numbers. Matt Damon has acknowledged the film's flaws, referring to it as a "disaster" and admitting it didn't work creatively.

The Matt Damon historical drama The Great Wall was one of the most controversial films during the time of its release. The Great Wall was a United States and Chinese co-production directed by visionary Chinese director Zhang Yimou. Damon starred in the lead role of William in The Great Wall alongside a supporting cast that included Willem Dafoe, Tian Jing, Andy Lau, Pedro Pascal, Hanyu Zhang, Han Lu, Kenny Lin, and Eddie Peng.

10 Best Pacific Rim Kaiju vs. Jaeger Battles, Ranked
Image
The fight scenes in the Pacific Rim franchise, particularly the Kaiju battles, are consistently the most entertaining and engaging scenes. While Pacific Rim: Uprising may have been a stumbling point for the franchise, it still offered decent colossal spectacle on par with the first movie. Pacific Rim: The Black, a recent anime series, enjoyed modest success with standout monster battles and the anime format was a perfect fit for the giant Kaiju-fighting mecha.

Pacific Rim is a franchise known for its epic fight scenes with gargantuan opponents, pitting the monstrous Kaiju against the awe-inspiring giant robots, the Jaegers. Pacific Rim knew what it wanted to deliver audiences -- Unsubtle skyscraper-scale robot-on-monster action. The first film certainly made good on this promise, and even if the second film was a stumbling point for the franchise, as Pacific Rim: Uprising wasn't directed by Guillermo del Toro, it still offered some decent colossal...

Film Review: The Great Wall (2016) by Zhang Yimou
Image
Unless you spent the whole 2016 growing potatoes on Mars, there’s a good chance you got some echoes of the controversy and headlines generated by the release of “The Great Wall”. Directed by veteran Chinese director Zhang Yimou, and produced by the Hollywood-based – but Chinese-owned – Legendary studio, it was the most expensive film made in China to that date and was thought to have opened a new era of collaboration between China and the US. The cast includes some of the most famous Chinese actors and A-list star Matt Damon. Certainly, an easy target for criticisms, and even just the release a few months prior of the first teaser and trailer had in fact unleashed an avalanche of comments and accusations, mainly of whitewashing and in particular of re-proposing the same old tale of the white hero who arrives, saves the whole China and possibly snatches a trophy-woman too. But...

Movie Review: Pacific Rim: Uprising
Guillermo del Toro’s “robots versus monsters” blockbuster Pacific Rim arrived in the summer of 2013 with plenty of intrigue and excitement among film fans, but it failed somewhat to gain much interest with domestic audiences. The film struggled to pass $100 million domestically, but it’s overseas box office soared to much higher as it pushed its worldwide total to just over $400 million. While not a runaway success, there has always been talk of a sequel but it was never at the top of production company Legendary’s agenda. Guillermo del Toro eventually moved onto the very strange Crimson Peak (2015) and this year’s best picture winner The Shape of Water (2017), which also got him his first directing Academy Award. Things have been good for him since 2013, but he didn’t have the time to get back in the directing chair for a Pacific Rim’s sequel when Legendary was ready,...

Pacific Rim Uprising – Review
Pacific Rim Uprising is a cut above the standard heavy-metal action blockbuster, with a wealth of visual detail and even an occasional pulse of intelligence beating beneath all of the mayhem. But it’s still a profoundly silly movie, so keep your expectations in check and you’re likely to have a decent time with it.

Pacific Rim Uprising is set a decade after the climax of the first film, when Stacker Pentecost (as played by Idris Elba) had sacrificed himself shutting off that bottom-of-the-sea gateway between Earth and that nasty alien dimension that kept serving up those skyscraper-stomping beasts known as Kaiju. Production on the Kaiju-battling Jaegers, the equally-immense robots controlled by pilots positioned inside their heads, has continued. Our hero for the sequel is Stacker’s son Jake (John Boyega), introduced as a grifter, cheating those looking for weapons and war relics. He’s convinced by his long-lost...

Epic Final IMAX Trailer for Steven S. DeKnight's 'Pacific Rim: Uprising'
"That's what I'm talking about!" Nothing can prepare you for how much CGI this trailer has! Universal has released a final IMAX exclusive trailer for the sci-fi sequel Pacific Rim: Uprising, the action packed kaiju vs giant robots movie. Guillermo del Toro produced and help write the story, Steven S. DeKnight (of TV work) is directing. This sequel picks up after the first movie, following John Boyega as Jake Pentecost, the son of Idris Elba's character Stacker Pentecost. The movie's ensemble cast includes Adria Arjona, Scott Eastwood, Tian Jing, Charlie Day, Burn Gorman, Rinko Kikuchi, Dustin Clare, Levi Meaden, Daniel Feuerriegel, Karan Brar, and Jin Zhang. This trailer is packed with some crazy epic footage of the kaiju vs robots battles, but I'm honestly not that excited to see it. A bit too much CGI. What about you? Here's the final IMAX trailer (+ poster) for Steven S. DeKnight's Pacific Rim: Uprising,...

Pacific Rim (2013)
Pacific Rim 2 Predicted to Fall Way Below Original at the Box Office
Pacific Rim (2013)
After a nearly five-year wait, fans of the 2013 monster movie Pacific Rim will finally get a sequel when Pacific Rim Uprising hits theaters on March 23. The sequel boasts some new faces like John Boyega as Jake Pentecost and some returning cast members like Rinko Kikuchi as Mako Mori, but, if the first box office projections are accurate, this movie could come in far below its predecessor, which wasn't a blockbuster itself at the domestic box office. The first long-range projections for Pacific Rim: Uprising put its opening weekend at just $20 million, with a projected domestic total of $49 million, less than half of the original Pacific Rim's haul five years ago.

This long-range projection lists the casting of John Boyega as Jake Pentecost, as one of the "pros" for this movie, since the actor is coming off of his blockbuster turns in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and last year's Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

New ‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’ Trailer Features Jaeger-on-Jaeger Action
A new trailer for Universal’s upcoming monster epic ‘Pacific Rim: Uprising‘ has been unveiled, and it features pretty much everything you’s expect from a ‘Pacific Rim‘ movie. The sequel to 2013’s ‘Pacific Rim‘, which was jump-started by Guillermo Del Toro, sees John Boyega‘s Jake Pentecost leading a Jaeger uprising after Kaiju mysteriously begin to appear once again. The trailer itself features a few new surprises, but the most interesting has to be the shots from Jaeger vs Jaeger battle that is teased in the trailer, simply because of the story implications that it provides. It seems that the reason for the Kaiju return is due to someone re-opening the portal form earth. Interesting twist on the story of the original to say the least.

Originally planned to be directed by Del Toro–that is until he fell in love with the ‘The Shape of Water‘ and decided...

Second Trailer for 'Pacific Rim: Uprising' Sequel Starring John Boyega
"We're going to need more violence." How is that actually a line in the movie? Universal has unveiled a second official trailer for the sci-fi sequel Pacific Rim: Uprising, the action packed kaiju vs giant robots sequel following-up Guillermo del Toro's movie a few years ago. Del Toro produced and help write the story, but is letting Steven S. DeKnight direct. This sequel picks right up after the first movie, following John Boyega as Jake Pentecost, the son of Idris Elba's character Stacker Pentecost. The movie's full ensemble cast also includes Adria Arjona, Scott Eastwood, Tian Jing, Charlie Day, Burn Gorman, Rinko Kikuchi, Dustin Clare, Levi Meaden, Daniel Feuerriegel, Karan Brar, and Jin Zhang. This looks like it might be entertaining, barely. I'm not really into this that much, even with Boyega kicking kaiju ass. Here's the second official trailer (+ poster) for Steven S. DeKnight's Pacific Rim: Uprising,...

Jaegers Rise Up in Epic Pacific Rim 2 Poster
Universal Pictures has unveiled a new poster for Pacific Rim Uprising. This new one-sheet offers a glimpse at a group of Jaegers that are standing tall, "rising up" against humanity's common enemy, the kaiju. This poster reveals that these Jaeger robots have some much different weapons this time around. The studio also announced that this poster arrives just before the final trailer will debut tomorrow, January 24, although an exact time for the trailer debut has not yet been given.

With this movie now exactly two months away from hitting theaters on March 23, it will continue the story from the first Pacific Rim, helping to solidify a new cinematic universe. Pacific Rim: Uprising director Steven S. DeKnight revealed in an interview back in October that this movie was always intended to be a "launching pad" for a Pacific Rim movie franchise that would open other worlds, and that he has...

New Footage From Pacific Rim Uprising Featured in Tokyo Comic-Con Reel
I don't know about you, but I'm actually pretty pumped up about director Steven S. DeKnight's Pacific Rim Uprising. I enjoyed the first film for what it was and it looks like this sequel is going to be just as entertaining. Who knows, maybe there's a chance that it could turn out even better.

This January, a group of fellow journalists and I traveled to Australia to visit the set of Pacific Rim Uprising, the upcoming follow-up to Guillermo del Toro's bombastic tribute to classic monster movies that pit massive fighting robots against even more imposing monsters in showdowns just as awesome as you'd expect. First Pacific Rim: Uprising Trailer Is Larger Than Life
Ten years have passed since Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi’s heroes channeled their inner Stacker Pentecost and canceled the apocalypse, but the years have not been kind to the Ppdc’s (Pan Pacific Defense Corps) Jaeger program.

Written off as a costly and unnecessary endeavor once the Kaiju have been defeated, by the time Pacific Rim: Uprising begins, those towering mechs will ostensibly be collecting dust – that is, until those otherworldly creatures begin to claw their way back from beyond the Breach. And so, the Ppdc begins to mount a defense against yet another mass invasion.

Headed up by two Jaeger pilots – played here by John Boyega (The Force Awakens) and Scott Eastwood (Suicide Squad) – the Mark VI fleet of Pacific Rim: Uprising is armed to the teeth with WMDs and other bells and whistles. Heck, one could even argue that each bipedal Jaeger is a Wmd in and of itself,...

Extended Synopsis For Pacific Rim: Uprising Confirms Mako’s Return
For the longest time, it looked certain that Pacific Rim would be remembered as a super-sized flash in the pan.

Guillermo del Toro’s larger-than-life blockbuster struggled to pull in enough box office receipts four years ago, leaving the future of the monsterverse in jeopardy. As time wore on, and the franchise was handed a lifeline in the form of Legendary’s Chinese buyout, Pacific Rim 2 was suddenly back on the table.

One name change and two release dates later and we now stand on the verge of Pacific Rim: Uprising, Steven S. DeKnight’s (Daredevil) gigantic sequel told through the lens of Jake Pentecost, a rebellious Jaeger pilot portrayed by John Boyega of Star Wars fame. If that name rings a bell, it should; he’s the son of Stacker Pentecost, Idris Elba’s booming leader who effectively cancelled an apocalypse in 2013. Now, the Kaiju are ready to stage their resurgence,...

Pacific Rim 2 Poster Has John Boyega Ready for War
Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018)
The long-awaited Pacific Rim Uprising is finally coming, and we have the poster to prove it. Universal and Legendary Pictures have just released the first poster for Pacific Rim 2, officially titled Pacific Rim: Uprising, and it is pretty awesome. The image features John Boyega's Jaeger pilot suited up and ready for battle, standing in front of one of the brand new Jaegers from the movie, Gypsy Avenger.

John Boyega shared the poster for Pacific Rim: Uprising to his Twitter account, saying "next up!" Even though he is still going to appear in Star Wars: The Last Jedi before the Pacific Rim sequel arrives in theaters, he probably still has some work to do one Uprising. So he could mean that is the next movie he has to work on. Either way, the poster is here and it is a pretty solid way to help kick off the marketing campaign for the movie.

‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’ Waits to Cancel the Apocalypse (For a Month)
‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’ is getting delayed for another month. Variety is reporting that Legendary/Universal will be moving the film’s release date back a month to March 23, 2018. The previous Release date exactly a month earlier was the latest in a string of release date changes that span both 2017 and early 2018.

Steven S. DeKnight steps into the directors chair, with a script that was co-written with Emily Carmichael, Kira Snyder, and T.S. Nowlin, from a story by Guillermo del Toro. The film stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Tian Jing, Charlie Day, Adria Arjona, Burn Gorman, and Rinko Kikuchi in the sequel.

‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’ was shot in both Australia and China. But the new release date will ensure that the film has stiff competition at a loaded box-office weekend. Five other releases, including a slew of animated features, are set to come out on that weekend. While my excitement for...

Pacific Rim 2 Pushed Back A Month
Fans who enjoyed Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 romp Pacific Rim will have to wait just a little bit longer to catch its sequel. Deadline is reporting that the John Boyega-starring Pacific Rim: Uprising has been pushed back one month.

Instead of hitting theaters on February 23, 2018, the flick will now be gracing theaters on March 23 of the same year. The competition it’ll be going up against is a bit questionable. Coming out that same weekend is Jamie Foxx’s Robin Hood reboot. Admittedly, given that no one has been asking for that film, we think it’s a pretty safe bet that Uprising will take that weekend. The weekend after, however, it will be going up against Steven Spielberg’s juggernaut Ready Player One, which is expected to do all sorts of business.

The date that Uprising settled on previously unclaimed weekend, but it was only one week after the release of Black Panther.

Kong: Skull Island 3-D
Kong is back, transformed into a ‘MonsteVerse’ colossus suitable for combat with Kaiju-sized foes. The key inspiration is video games but the day is saved by capable performers in mostly amusing roles. Even though the show treats its fantasy halfway seriously, it’s still an infantile guns ‘n’ monsters romp, embellished with impressive visual effects.

Join the Jaeger Uprising! Well, this is a cool way to introduce the new movie. Legendary + Universal have debuted a viral teaser trailer video for Pacific Rim 2, known as Pacific Rim: Uprising. Pacific Rim: Uprising Teaser Trailer Rallies The Troops
The Jaeger program is looking for new recruits.

As the Internet grinds to a halt in anticipation of San Diego Comic-Con, Legendary has unleashed the first teaser trailer for Pacific Rim: Uprising, the Steven S. DeKnight-directed creature feature that places John Boyega (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) in the driving seat.

For when the Kaiju stage their resurgence, the former Attack the Block actor will lead the human resistance as Jake Pentecost, son of the apocalypse-canceling Stacker (Idris Elba). That leaves Boyega with some mighty big boots to fill – both human and otherwise – if he’s to command the story in the spirit of his on-screen father, but we’re quietly confident that the rising star is ready to step up to the plate. You’ll be able to catch a fleeting glimpse of him suited up at the tail-end of Uprising‘s first teaser, which spends close to...

‘The Great Wall’ Blu-ray 3D Review
Stars: Matt Damon, Willem Dafoe, Pedro Pascal, Tian Jing, Andy Lau, Hanyu Zhang, Han Lu, Kenny Lin, Eddie Peng, Xuan Huang, Ryan Zheng | Written by Carlo Bernard, Doug Miro, Tony Gilroy | Directed by Yimou Zhang

Magnificent, breath-taking spectacle. A glorious, gorgeous testament to mankind’s creativity. Looks really good in 3D. All of this and more can be used to describe The Great Wall of China. The Great Wall of filmmaker Zhang Yimou, however, is another thing entirely.

Following the intense furore surrounding the creation and marketing of The Great Wall, the film itself is here for all to see and judge. Erasure? White saviour trope: the movie? The Great Wall of China with a coat of whitewashing? As it turns out, not quite, but that’s not to say the movie is without its problems.

The great face of The Great Wall’s controversies is Matt Damon, cast as brooding mercenary William Garin.
