Dr. Cynthia Powell-Hicks is the oldest of 2 daughters born to Alice and Colonel Joseph T. Powell, M.A. in a U.S. Army hospital.
Dr. Cynthia is a certified Mental Health, Child and Relationship therapist, an expert Forensic Psychologist, TV personality, and retired CEO for nonprofit residential care facilities and nonpublic educational centers.
Most recently, Dr. Cynthia appears on the OWN network series, "Like Mother, Like Daughter". In this series, she partners with her own daughter, Dr. Ally, to assist mothers and adult daughters in repairing their strained relations caused by past traumatic events. Dr. Powell-Hicks has published a set of coloring books for mothers and daughters to enjoy creative, bonding time.
Dr. Powell-Hicks' areas of expertise include Child Abuse, Trauma, Depression, Anxiety, and Building Self-worth. Dr. Powell-Hicks earned her M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University. She later earned her Ph.D. at the Professional School of Psychology, in Southern California. Her clinical training was completed with the UCLA-affiliated Martin Luther King Hospital-Augustus Hawkins Psychiatric Center. Dr. Cynthia's clinical focus dealt with depression, anxiety, and self-esteem. She has made it her mission to help others deal with the challenges of everyday life. Dr. Powell-Hicks has dedicated her life to helping abused and neglected children throughout the Southern California area. She has received numerous awards and written articles for various print publications.
