Neon’s trailer for the indie horror film Shelby Oaks introduces the titular town and a search for a paranormal investigator who went missing while visiting it. The crowdfunded movie, which had its world premiere at the 2024 Fantasia Festival marks the directorial debut of YouTube film critic Chris Stuckmann.

Chris Stuckmann’s crowd-funded “Shelby Oaks” is gearing up for its big theatrical release on October 3 — and Neon’s got a lot riding on the supernatural mystery delivering its first major Halloween play at the box office.

Earlier this summer, IndieWire reported that the YouTuber’s supernatural mystery — about a team of ghost hunters who lose one of their own — had undergone significant reshoots. In March, “Shelby Oaks” spent roughly $1 million to head back to Ohio, where they added scenes with “more blood and gore.”

When I reviewed the first cut of “Shelby Oaks” last summer at Fantasia Fest, I knocked it for Stuckmann’s poorly written final girl (Camille Sullivan) and suspense with nonsensical execution. Still, I gave it a “B-” because I admired how Stuckmann paid for it, and his love for the genre was obvious.

Adrianne Palicki, known for starring in shows like The Orville, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Friday Night Lights and films like Legion and John Wick, is set to star in a new contained horror thriller movie from Steven DeGennaro. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Palicki will star as Jules in a new film from the Found Footage 3D director titled Remote.

Palicki is set to play a character named Jules who, for the past seven months, has been living alone in a 30-foot trailer. The logline for Remote reads: “Her only escape from the drudgery of remote-work video conferences and missed connections with her busy husband is a website where users share webcam streams of the views from their windows. When she witnesses a murder on one of these cameras, she must rely on her wits and computer skills to discover the identity of the killer before they can find her.

John Wick and Legion actor Adrianne Palicki will get caught in a killer’s crosshairs in new horror-thriller Remote, from Found Footage 3D director Steven DeGennaro.

YouTuber Chris Stuckmann's crowd-funded horror movieShelby Oaks has been in the works for a while. Most recently, the film finished three days of reshoots after receiving double its original budget.

Stuckmann is a popular film critic who decided he wanted to make his own horror film. The found footage-style movie received $1.39 million via a Kickstarter campaign and was acquired by Neon in July 2024. According to IndieWire, Neon provided Stuckmann with more money to add more violence and gore to Shelby Oaks. The extra cash will also allow the crew to film inside the same prison that was used in Shawshank Redemption.

"We were able to go back into the movie at a couple key points and really punch up some particularly bloody elements," Stuckmann said about the reshoots in a video shared by Paper Street Pictures' YouTube Channel. "I can't even express how unprecedented that is for an independent filmmaker.

After years of anticipation, the most-funded horror film on Kickstarter is finally headed to theaters nationwide later this year. It’s not every day that a YouTube film critic makes his dreams a reality, but that was the case for Chris Stuckmann, who wrote and directed an original horror thriller that received positive reviews during a brief festival run in 2024. Whenever a movie goes back into production for reshoots, there’s usually immediate skepticism, especially when we get to see the price tag. While we don’t know the exact amount behind the reshoots of Shelby Oaks – the debut from web critic-turned-filmmaker Chris Stuckmann – Neon wrote a check that allowed for more “gore and violence.”

Shelby Oaks was actually a crowd-funded endeavor, with one of the leading figures in horror, Mike Flanagan, offering extra support. Backed by a budget that initially came to $1.4 million, the film is now looking to improve on the reviews that came out of Fantasia Fest last summer.

Revival, Syfy’s new horror-noir-dramedy thing, is both very much like a lot of shows we’ve seen recently and not.

It is yet another 2025 series about, to paraphrase my colleague’s summary of The Better Sister, two estranged sisters simultaneously bonded and torn apart by trauma — only in this case, the circumstances of their reunion involve the dead suddenly coming back to life. Which might suggest zombie action à la The Last of Us, except these resurrected have no evident interest in eating anyone’s brains, just in returning to their old lives.

One of said sisters (Melanie Scrofano’s Dana) is a police detective with a personal investment in the case of a murdered young woman; I’m sure you can fill in your own point of comparison from any number of noir-laced shows here.

‘Revival’ First Look: Syfy Drops Special Episode Ahead of June Series Launch...

Wynonna Earp star Melanie Scrofano returns to headline another Syfy series with Revival, based on Tim Seeley and Mike Norton’s popular Image Comics series. Season one will premiere on June 12, 2025, with new episodes airing on Thursdays at 10pm Et/Pt.

“On one miraculous day in rural Wisconsin, the recently deceased have suddenly come back to life. But this is no zombie story as the ‘revived’ appear and act just like they once were. As the mystery of this phenomenon fuels unrest, Officer and single mother Dana Cypress is thrust into the center of an unusual murder investigation—one where the murder victim is alive,” reads Syfy’s synopsis. “And now, it is up to Dana to unravel the truth amidst a town gripped by fear and confusion, where everyone, living or revived, is a suspect.”

Revival has its premiere date. The new supernatural drama will arrive on Syfy next month, and the network has released a trailer teasing the new series.

Melanie Scrofano, Romy Weltman, David James Elliott, and Andy McQueen star in the series, which follows the events in a small town after the dead come back to life. Steven Ogg, Phil Brooks (Cm Punk), Gia Sandhu, Katherine King So, Maia Jae, Nathan Dales, Mark Little, Glen Gould, Lara Jean Chorostecki, and Conrad Coates also appear in the series.

Syfy and Peacock have released the first teaser trailer for Revival and how this is going to be your next creepy summer binge series! With summer upon us, cable and streamers are ready to fill the gap of the networks with big shows. Syfy is, of course, ready to unleash its original series fare and has been working on Revival, one of the more unique comic book adaptations.

The graphic novel from Image Comics debuted in 2012, written by Tim Seeley with art by Mike Norton. It's been a long journey to making it into a TV show with showrunners Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce. Koontz talked of it in 2024:

"The four-year journey to get here was tough, but Revival has been the most creatively fulfilling journey of my life. Yes, it is daunting and, at times, completely insane. But I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm at home in the chaos.

USA and Syfy announced premiere dates for the new season of Resident Alien starring Alan Tudyk and the series premiere of Revival. Fans will get to catch up with their favorite visitor from outer space when Resident Alien returns for season four on June 6, 2025 at 11pm Et/Pt on USA and Syfy. Revival, based on the Image Comics series, debuts on Syfy on June 12th at 10pm Et/Pt.

NBCUniversal has announced that Resident Alien Season 4 will premiere on Friday, June 6 at 11 p.m. Et/Pt on both USA and Syfy, while the series premiere of the comic adaptation Revival debuts on Thursday, June 12 at 10 p.m. on Syfy.

The episodes from both series will be available to stream on Peacock one week after they air on USA and Syfy.

Based on the Dark Horse comics, Resident Alien follows a crash-landed alien named Harry and his life on planet Earth. The fourth season starts with Harry and his baby, Bridget, stuck in prison on the Grey Moonbase, while a shape-shifting Alien called a Mantid has taken over his body on Earth, passing himself off as the real Harry Vanderspeigle.

Harry manages to escape the Greys and arrives back on Earth for a showdown with the Mantid Alien, but soon finds he may not have what he needs to finish the job.

The dead come back to life in “Revival,” but this isn’t a zombie series. Syfy is bringing the comic book adaptation to the small screen, and the official trailer has arrived.

Horror streamer Screambox, in collaboration with Cineverse and its horror division Bloody Disgusting, has unveiled “Tales From the Void,” a new horror anthology series based on stories from the subreddit page r/NoSleep. Two episodes will premiere exclusively on Screambox every Sunday from Oct. 13-27.

According to the official logline, “‘Tales From the Void’ covers a wide spectrum of horror, from creepy dolls to unborn children, unsolved mysteries to serial murders, and unexplained phenomena to creatures that stalk the night. Each unnerving tale blends genre thrills with social commentary to explore the darker side of the human psyche.
