Biography

    • Shinichi Fukuda is a prominent female creator of mature manga. My Dress-Up Darling is her first series to be published in the North American market. In 2006, she won the Kadokawa Encouragement Prize for New Mangaka, Ace category . After publishing numerous one-shots in Kadokawa 's Monthly Shounen Ace magazine , she began her first manga in 2009, Shibaraku. Her second manga is Momoiro Meloik, initially published as a one-shot in 2011, but later serialized from 2012 to 2016 in Shounen Gahôsha 's Young King .

In January 2018, Fukuda began writing My Dress-Up Darling, a romance manga with a cosplay theme. Fukuda received the idea after her former editor slipped her a note about the world of cosplay, which interested the mangaka. Together with the publishing house, they agreed that the target audience would be young men who like "sweet girls". Several versions were written before the current one was chosen. The manga was serialized in Square Enix's Young Gangan and became a commercial and media success. In 2020, the manga won the Electronic Comics Prize , men's choice category. As of April 2021, more than 2.5 million copies have been sold. An animated television series is produced in 2022. In September 2022, the manga crossed the mark of 7.5 million copies sold.
