Neil Patrick Harris' Uncoupled Series Axed by Showtime Before Season 2
Image
Showtime has canceled Neil Patrick Harris' Uncoupled, leaving fans disappointed and unresolved storylines hanging. Season two was in pre-production phase, but industry strikes and re-development efforts led to its discontinuation. Uncoupled's characters faced compelling subplots that promised depth, making the cancellation even more disappointing.

Showtime has decided to cancel Neil Patrick Harris' comedy series, Uncoupled, before the production of its second season could commence. This decision comes as a surprise, especially considering that Showtime had previously rescued the show from oblivion after its initial cancellation by Netflix, as per Deadline.

Uncoupled debuted with a storyline that resonated with many viewers. Neil Patrick Harris portrayed Michael Lawson, a man blindsided by the sudden departure of his longtime partner, Colin McKenna, played by Tuc Watkins. The first season followed Michael as he navigated the complexities of single life in New York City, a narrative that was both humorous and heartwarming. With...

‘Uncoupled’ Actors React To Show’s Cancellation: “Sad There Won’t Be A Season 2 After All”
Image
Following Showtime’s decision not to proceed with a new season of Uncoupled after Netflix’s cancellation, the series’ cast is breaking their silence.

Jai Rodriguez, who played Jonathan #2, took to social media to share his thoughts about the show getting canceled for good.

“Welp, guess I’m not going to NYC in May to shoot,” Rodriguez posted on Instagram Stories.

The Neil Patrick Harris-starring comedy created by Darren Star and Jeffrey Richman premiered all eight episodes of the first season on July 29, 2022. In January 2023, Netflix canceled the series after a single season. However, a month later, Showtime stepped up and picked up a second season of the comedy, which had been delayed due to the writers’ strike.

Following the show’s demise, Dan Amboyer, who played Harris’s love interest, shared a heartfelt message on Instagram.

“Sad that there won’t be a season 2 of Uncoupled after all,...

Uncoupled: Cancelled Again; Showtime Not Making Season Two of Neil Patrick Harris Comedy After All
Uncoupled will not be returning for a second season after all. After releasing the first season of eight episodes in July 2022, Netflix cancelled the relationship comedy series in January 2023, despite it being a Top 10 show. Showtime picked up the series for a second season in February but has now cancelled those plans.

Neil Patrick Harris, Tuc Watkins, Tisha Campbell, Marcia Gay Harden, Emerson Brooks, and Brooks Ashmanskas star in the series, which follows successful real estate broker Michael Lawson (Harris) as he returns to the dating world after his partner of 17 years breaks up with him.

Uncoupled Un-Renewed: Season 2 of Neil Patrick Harris Comedy Not Moving Forward at Showtime
Image
Showtime won’t be coming to Uncoupled‘s rescue after all. The cabler has opted not to move forward with a second season of Neil Patrick Harris’ divorce comedy, which it previously saved after it was first canceled by Netflix, our sister site Deadline reports.

Uncoupled followed Nph as New York City real estate agent Michael Lawson, who suddenly found himself single after being unceremoniously dumped by longtime boyfriend Colin McKenna. The comedy’s eight-episode first (and now only) season ended with Colin returning to their apartment and telling Michael that he made a huge “mistake.”

David Corenswet Is Superman?! Our Opinion On The Casting That Will Define A Franchise
Image
So, David Corenswet is the Dcu's new Superman in Superman: Legacy and naturally the Internet has Thoughts about it. He's perfect, or he's too small, or he's not Henry Cavill, or he looks so much like Superman, or... Well, you get the idea. It's fair to say that Superman's movie casting carries similar expectations as casting Batman or James Bond. There's a weight of history there thanks to those who came before and how millions of DC comic book pages have portrayed DC's most wholesome superhero. In all of that, one question can too easily be passed over: will David Corenswet actually be a good Superman?

Handed the cape, tights and keys to the Fortress of Solitude for James Gunn's 2025 reboot of Superman, Corenswet has a lot in front of him, and crucially, not that much behind him. He's a fresh face with the added benefit of looking an...

Neil Patrick Harris Says ‘Uncoupled’ Season 2 Filming Is “On Pause” Due To Writers Strike
Image
Neil Patrick Harris is reprising his role of Michael Lawson for the second season of Uncoupled, the Darren Star and Jeffrey Richman series that was picked up by Showtime after Netflix canceled it after one season.

While visiting The View to promote his Hulu show Drag Me to Dinner, Harris revealed that filming for the second season of Uncoupled is getting delayed due to the writers strike.

“Very exciting, we were going to start filming it in the beginning of July but the writers strike is happening,” he said. “So, everything is sort of on pause — go writers, writers strong. So we’re just going to wait until that plays itself out.”

Harris continued, “Hopefully we’ll be able to start filming in warm weather. We filmed Season 1 in cold weather and it’s less fun to have like dating shows where you’re walking down Central Park and like freezing and shivering,...

Uncoupled: Showtime Picks Up Canceled Netflix Comedy for Season 2
Neil Patrick Harris in Uncoupled (2022)
Uncoupled has found a new home following its cancellation on Netflix.

Deadline reported Friday that the Neil Patrick Harris comedy had scored a surprise pickup at Showtime.

The news comes amid a strategic shift at the premium cabler, which recently announced plans to become Paramount+ with Showtime.

As a result, much of the network's content is set to change.

Showtime canceled American Gigolo, Let the Right One In, and the new drama Three Women (despite never airing a single episode).

Several ended shows were also purged in the process, with shows like Kidding removed entirely.

It's unclear whether the purged shows will return somewhere else down the line.

Showtime also recently announced plans to expand the Dexter and Billions franchises.

As many as four spinoffs of the latter are in the works -- including Millions and Trillions.

For Dexter, we're getting a prequel called Dexter: Origin, a second chapter of Dexter: New Blood,...

Image

Netflix Cancels Neil Patrick Harris Comedy ‘Uncoupled’ After One Season
Neil Patrick Harris in Uncoupled (2022)
Netflix and Uncoupled are, yes, uncoupled. The streaming service has canceled the Neil Patrick Harris rom-com after one season. In the series — from Sex and the City creator Darren Star and Modern Family scribe Jeffrey Richman — Harris played real estate agent Michael Lawson, suddenly single after getting dumped by his longtime boyfriend at the party Michael threw for him. “Overnight, [Michael] has to confront two nightmares: losing the man he thought was his soulmate and suddenly finding himself a single gay man in his mid-forties in New York City,” the show’s logline added. Sarah Shatz/Netflix Reviews for Uncoupled were decent, with TV Insider’s Matt Roush calling it “an arch season-long pity party sprinkled with sexy slapstick, sitcom bon mots, and strong female support from Tisha Campbell as Michael’s brassy co-worker and Marcia Gay Harden as a demanding and equally bereft divorced client.” “Diverting when it’s not...

Casting Neil Patrick Harris In How I Met Your Mother Completely Changed Barney's Character
Image
Suit up, it's time to discuss everyone's favorite self-proclaimed lady's man. The antics of Barney Stinson may not have aged particularly well here in 2022, but the "How I Met Your Mother" character somehow remains just as beloved today as he was when the show was on the air. There is one reason for that and his name is Neil Patrick Harris. This is not to say series creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas and their team didn't do an amazing job writing these characters, because they definitely did. However, the show's resident lothario wouldn't have been nearly as lovable if Harris hadn't imbued him with so much heart. Barney does one despicable thing after another, and yet the audience continues to root for him. Harris' performance brought so much depth to a character that could've very easily been little more than a caricature.

Sure, it's true that "How I Met...

Neil Patrick Harris, Darren Star and Jeffrey Richman on Releasing “Universal” Rom-Com ‘Uncoupled’ Amid Challenges to LGBTQ+ Rights
Image
Click here to read the full article.

Exactly the kind of rom-com story audiences have seen again and again for middle-aged straight, white characters — and that Hollywood has recently shown more interest in with younger LGBTQ+ characters in projects like Love, Victor, Fire Island and Anything’s Possible — Uncoupled delivers the kind of narrative treatment middle-aged gay men are rarely on the receiving end of. And it’s arriving at a notable time for the LGBTQ+ community.

Netflix’s latest rom-com installment follows Neil Patrick Harris’ Michael, a successful, middle-aged New York real estate agent who suddenly finds himself separating from his partner of 17 years after Colin (played by Tuc Watkins) decides, without explanation, that their relationship is no longer working.

After having his life turned upside down, Michael attempts to redefine (and find) himself now as single gay man in New York navigating a dating scene that leaves him feeling,...

‘Uncoupled’ Is a Surprisingly Sour Neil Patrick Harris Breakup Story: TV Review
Image
Darren Star has, in recent years, had a Netflix success with “Emily in Paris” — a show that, depending on your vantage point, is either a death knell for TV comedy or a sunnily surface-level jaunt whose idle pleasures are just that. Star, the creator of “Sex and the City” and “Melrose Place,” has a gift for skating the viewer across smoothly luxurious settings.

Which may be the problem, or one of them, with his latest series for Netflix, which he created with Jeffrey Richman. “Uncoupled” features Neil Patrick Harris as Michael Lawson, an haute-Manhattan real-estate agent whose long-term relationship, to a character played by Tuc Watkins, falls apart before Michael even knows it’s broken. Michael is forced to carry on with work and to begin to date, all while pretending he’s not devastated. The trouble is that the show comes to seem distracted by all the pleasures surrounding the challenging character of Michael,...

‘Uncoupled’ Creators on Why a Breakup Is a Good Jumping-Off Point for a Rom-Com
Image
And just like that, he’s single. In this Sex and the City–like dramedy, Uncoupled, from cocreators Darren Star and Jeffrey Richman, fortysomething real estate agent Michael Lawson (Neil Patrick Harris) is dumped at the birthday party he planned for longtime love Colin (Tuc Watkins). Ouch. Now heartbroken, Michael picks up the pieces — and explores the intricacies of dating as a gay man of a certain age. (Credit: Barbara Nitke/Netflix) Luckily, he has support from besties Suzanne (Tisha Campbell), Billy (Emerson Brooks), and Stanley (Brooks Ashmanskas), plus a newly divorced client (Marcia Gay Harden). Star and Richman conceived Uncoupled after several real-life long-term relationships they knew of “imploded in a very specific way. It’s your worst nightmare but also a great jumping-off point for a romantic comedy.” Ultimately, they say the show proves “on the other side of the worst thing that can happen is hope.” Uncoupled,...

Neil Patrick Harris is learning that dating isn't what it used to be.  In Uncoupled, coming to Netflix July 29, Nph plays Michael Lawson "a successful New York City real estate agent with a great career, a supportive family, close friends, and a loving relationship with his partner of 17 years, Colin (Tuc Watkins)," according to the streamer. Uncoupled Trailer: Neil Patrick Harris Suits Up To Search For Love In NYC
Neil Patrick Harris
Neil Patrick Harris is single and searching for love in New York City.

This isn't his first time suiting up to explore the Big Apple's dating scene, but other than being well-dressed and unattached, I'm guessing Michael Lawson and Barney Stinson don't have much in common. Although Barney had no trouble earning nine seasons worth of laughs, Harris' "How I Met Your Mother" character was best known as a despicable womanizer who was terrified of commitment and perfectly happy to live out an endless string of one night stands.
