Sister Midnight: Can You Watch The Radhika Apte Starrer In India? Here’s What We Know
Image
Can You Stream Radhika Apte’s Sister Midnight In India?(Photo Credit –YouTube)

Radhika Apte’s critically acclaimed and award-winning black comedy Sister Midnight is available to rent, but not in India. Currently, it is accessible in the United Kingdom on several platforms, including Prime Video, Apple TV+, and Sky Store. All platforms offer similar rental pricing, between £4 to £5 ($5 to $6 Usd), and the purchase price is the same across all platforms at £9.99 ($13.47 usd).

OTTPlay also reported that the film is available on Tubi, and Indian viewers can stream a censored version on the platform. However, Tubi is not currently available in India, and even in the US, Sister Midnight is not available for streaming. So, for now, those reports appear to be just rumors. The portal also reported that Prime Video is expected to acquire the film officially. If that happens, the uncensored version may be available for streaming by the end of the year.

11 Years Of Nitin Kakkar’s Filmistan
Image
Filmistaan would have been an outrageously funny film were it not for the profoundly moving underbelly that it secretes with such fluency and spontaneity. The film could have become a gallery of clichés about Indo-Pak harmony. A sort of Veer-Zara turned into a Veru and Zara-uddin who become friends in Pakistani soil while guns boom all around them.

Sachindra Vats edits the scenes down to the minimum when required. But generally he lets the characters develop naturally even if the process takes some time. The film is shot in authentic locations by cinematographer Subhransu Das who brings to the table an enticing aura of believability. The dialogues written by the film’s lead Sharib Hashmi never become top-heavy with message-mongering, nor does the going get excessively verbose as it did in the recent cross-border film Kya Dilli Kay Lahore.

It’s astonishing how director Nitin Kakkar averts all the corny...

Remembering Sunil Dutt The First Truly Feminist Hero Of Hindi Cinema On His Birth Anniversary
Image
Sunil Dutt didn’t pretend to be a feminist. It came naturally to him. He would pick up his wife the great Nargis’s trailing gown from the floor as easily as he could play the reformist hero of his lovely leading lady Nutan in the fabulous Sujata. And when Nutan became the dominant spouse in Khandaan , Dutt Saab surrendered wholeheartedly to the mollycoddling.

In an interview conducted in the 1990s, Sunil Dutt told Subhash K Jha. “I didn’t think of these things, whether my role was more or less than my leading lady. In Mother India, Nargisji was the hero. I am thankful for the opportunity to play her son in Mother India, that’s how we met and became man and wife.”

Among all the screen heroes, Sunil Dutt was the only true feminist. While several leading men pretend to believe in gender equality their actions prove otherwise.

20 Years Without Sunil Dutt
Image
Shining the spotlight on the career of the incredible Sunil Dutt, Subhash K Jha walks down memory lane and hears from some of Dutt’s co-stars on why they thought he was so special.

“A true gentleman” is how the legendary Waheeda Rehman describes Sunil Dutt. “He was kind, considerate, and very supportive as a co-star. Dutt Saab ke baare mein jo tareef karen wohkam hai. All of us heroines felt very special in his presence. A wonderful friend, a devoted husband, and a terrific co-star, what more can any woman want? The films I did with Dutt Saab didn’t become big hits. But I cherished every moment of Reshma Aur Shera, which he directed. I even got the National Award for Reshma Aur Shera. Lekin National award unhe milni chahiye. Every frame in Reshma Aur Shera was Dutt Saab’s vision.”

Amitabh Bachchan On 2001’s Ek Rishtaa: The Bonds of Love & Working With Raakhee Gulzar Again
Image
Amitabh Bachchan, in this special interview speaks with Subhash K Jha about Suneel Darshan’s Ek Rishtaa: The Bond of Love, which also featured Akshay Kumar, Juhi Chawla, and Karisma Kapoor and shares what it was like to work, once again, with Raakhee Gulzar.

Suneel Darshan was completely bowled over by your professionalism and expertise during the shooting of Ek Rishtaa: The Bond of Love?

The feeling is mutual. I think Suneel is extremely focussed and organized. Long before Ek Rishtaa: The Bond of Love went on the floors, he knew exactly what he wanted to do on screen, down to the music and songs. That, I think, is the forte of this millennial generation. Filmmakers in the past were also organized in their own way. But what they had it all in their heads. This millennials directors puts it down on paper. And there’s a whole battery of...

Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather released 53 Years Ago, Subhash K Jha Revisits 5 Indian Adaptations, Good, Bad & Ugly
Image
Many cineastes think Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather is the most influential film of all times. I would have to go with that. So would Feroz Khan, who’s been in two of the worst Godfather-influenced films of all time. Here’s saluting The Godfather clones, good, bad and the awful.

1. Dharmatma (1975):

Feroz Khan was always ahead of his time. So, it’s no surprise that he was the first Bollywood filmmaker to jump on the The Godfather bandwagon with this wildly out-of-control remake—an almost scene-by-scene reaffirmation of the original with Feroz playing Al Pacino and Premnath as Marlon Brando. A laughably crude homage to the original, the silver lining was the beauteous Hema Malini as Reshma, the exotic Afghani lass whom Michael, sorry Feroz, falls in love with. Hema dancing to Lataji’s ‘Mere galiyon se logon ki yaari ho gayi’ would have probably given Coppola...

Image
Why wasn’t Aziz Ansari in the third season of Master of None? He was the main reason that the show was one of the biggest hits on Netflix, getting acclaimed for high praise from many critics. Ansari stared as Dev Shah, a commercial actor who was best known for the Go-Gurt commercial.

Ansari’s character, Dev, explores the life of an Indian American born to immigrant parents growing up in New York, which is vastly different from his parents’ upbringing in India. Dev is surrounded by good friends, including his best friend, Arnold (Eric Wareheim), and Denise (Lena Waithe).

Season three of Master of None goes into a different direction as it focuses on Denise, a lesbian author who marries Alicia (Naomi Ackie) after seeing her success as an author. Denise and Alicia are experiencing their relationship through thick and thin as their differences grow between them.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali Rushed To Get This Song… But It Was Too Late! ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the mastermind behind visually stunning and emotionally charged films, recently launched his debut web series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar on Netflix. While the series itself is mesmerizing viewers with its grandeur, Bhansali shared a poignant story that sheds light on the emotional core that drives his artistry.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s father, Navin Bhansali, was a producer who never quite achieved his filmmaking dreams. When Navin was on his deathbed, he made a peculiar request. He yearned to hear a specific song: “Hayo Rabba”, sung by Reshma, a tribal singer from their ancestral homeland across the border, separated by the Partition of India.

The song’s raw, untrained essence held a deep significance for Navin. Young Sanjay, determined to fulfil his father’s wish, rushed to find the cassette. However, by the time he returned,...

Stuntwoman Reshma Pathan shares her story on 'India's Best Dancer 3'
Image
For its second edition of ‘Cinema Ke 110 Saal, Bemisaal!’, reality show ‘India’s Best Dancer Season 3’ honours the country’s first stuntwoman, Reshma Pathan. And to give the audience an idea of her skills, Reshma turns host Jay Bhanushali into her muse as she showcases a couple of stunts with him.

A woman of invincible strength and unwavering spirit, Reshma is India’s first successful stunt woman who has performed thousands of nerve-wracking stunts in almost 400 films across languages.

The ‘Sholay Girl’, whose journey in Indian Cinema has been truly inspiring, says: “Back then, the condition in my house was not so good, I had many brothers and sisters, and my father was really ill, so I had to earn for the family somehow.”

Then, Fate smiled at her. “One day I was jumping around on the streets and Azim Bhai [the action director] saw me, and while everyone was giving me a few paise,...

“Irrfan Khan in a career best owns his role as only he could in The Song of Scorpions” – A Subhash K Jha Review
Image
The Song Of Scorpions

Starring Irrfan Khan, Golshifteh Farahani, Waheeda Rehman, Shashank Arora

Written & Directed by Anup Singh

Luckily for us and posterity, Irrfan Khan’s final film is an exquisite piece of cinema. Enchanting to view, gorgeous in feel, The Song Of Scorpions is an enigmatic parable set to the tune of a cinematic rhythm by a master craftsman.

I’ve been a fan of Anup Singh’s cinema since Qissa where Irrfan was a Sikh father hellbent on proving his daughter to be a son. In many ways in The Song Of Scorpions Irrfan plays a distant cousin to his character in Qissa. His camel-plying hero Aadam is a mulishly stubborn man driven to obsessive self-destructive lengths by his passion for a stunning resolute woman of the deserts(Iranian beauty Golshifteh Farahani) who sings to scorpions. And there lies the sting.

This is a film that addresses the...

Image
Bhopal, Aug 20 (Ians) Poor quality healthcare system, non-availability of hearse or pregnant women being taken to the hospital on cots are frequently reported from different parts of Madhya Pradesh.

Now yet another glaring example of medical negligence has come to light, wherein the head wound of a woman was dressed with a condom wrapper.

The shocking incident took place in Morena district, where a condom wrapper was used as a temporary bandage to stop bleeding from a head injury sustained by a woman named Reshma Bai.

The incident came to light after a doctor at the Morena district hospital began to change the dressing of the wound of Reshma Bai, who was referred there from a community health centre in the district.
