Is ‘Survivor’ on Netflix?
Image
Looking for another fix of “Survivor” after season 43 wrapped up on December 14, 2022? We are too and wondered is “Survivor” on Netflix? We did some digging and it turns out that the long-running reality competition TV show hosted by Jeff Probst is available on the streaming service.

But be warned: there is only season of “Survivor” on Netflix. It is the 18th edition, which was subtitled “Tocantins – The Brazilian Highlands.” The 14 episodes of “Survivor 18” aired on CBS from February 12, 2009 to May 17, 2009. Season 18 of “Survivor” saw 16 players pitted against each other. The cast was initially split into two tribes — Jalapao and Timbira — before merging into one, Forza, in episode eight.

Among those contending for the title of Sole Survivor were R&b singer Tamara Johnson-George and beauty queen Candace Smith. While neither of them returned to the “Survivor” franchise in later seasons, four of their castmates did. Stephen Fishbach made a return...

My Father Die Review
My Father Die is an angry little debut for Sean Brosnan, and thankfully for papa Pierce Brosnan, not with biographical intent. It’s true that Brosnan keeps revenge in the family, but only by way of fictional bayou country folks. Pierce is safe from Sean’s bullet-ridden bite of familial revenge, unlike some characters who find themselves caught between not-so-friendly fire and the struggles of living up to (or denouncing) parental pedestals. It’s pulpy, fur-wearing, country fried fury, following a darker path that’s guided by stellar direction from the man with the golden camera. It’s not perfect, but stylish and provocative enough to erase any notion that “first-timer” is synonymous with “amateur.”

Joe Anderson stars as present-day Asher, who we first meet as a young boy (played by Gabe White). Currently, he’s a deaf adult who takes care of his mother, but in the opening flashback,...

ABC Renews ‘Castle,’ ‘Scrubs’; Cancels ‘The Unusuals,’ ‘Cupid’
Chicago – ABC is still struggling to find the next big hit to stand next to monsters like “Lost,” “Desperate Housewives,” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” and they decided to give Nathan Fillion & Stana Katic’s “Castle” a shot at hit status, but cancelled several other new shows, including “The Unusuals” and “Cupid”.

ABC announced their fall schedule today and made a few surprise choices, bringing back the increasingly interesting “Castle” and giving another chance to “Better Off Ted” and “True Beauty”.

Perhaps the most surprising move, especially considering the show’s poignant and excellent series finale, has to be the return of “Scrubs,” which will be back for midseason. They also announced 11 new series for fall and midseason.

"An Evening with Women" in Pictures
Last weekend celebrities came out in style to attend the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center's annual fundraiser An Evening with Women, and we have photos, photos, and more photos! (All photos are from Getty unless otherwise specified.)

Our L.A. Scene columnist Sarah Witness is going to cover it in more detail in her next column, but here's a quick rundown of the event.

Gina Gershon (Love Ranch, Bound) was scheduled to host, but had to back out at the last minute when her shooting schedule was changed, so Jennifer Coolidge (Nip/Tuck, Best in Show) gamely stepped in to Mc, entertaining the crowd with lines like, "a word about Mormons — what the f--k?" (pause) "I realize that was more than one word."

Jennifer Coolidge welcomes the crowd

Legendary musician (and organizer of the event) Linda Perry played piano and sang a new song she wrote called "Letter to God,...

Recap: 'Survivor: Tocantins' Week Three
Through two weeks on "Survivor: Tocantins," the eliminations have followed a very simple pattern: It's bad to be weak or old or sickly or have a name starting with "S," but it's worse to be an opinionated woman with an ample bosom and a name starting with "C." Good for Sandy and Sierra. Bad for Carolina and Candace. Would the pattern continue on Thursday (Feb. 26) night's "Survivor: Tocantins" episode? Pre-credit sequence. In Timbira camp, Erinn is pretending like she knew Candace was going home the whole time. She claims that her friendship with Candace was an elaborate ruse, an elaborate,...

Imho "Survivor" 1802: "I think I'm smitten!"
What one word comes to mind about this episode of Survivor: Tonkatoys? Hmmm ... .oh, yeah! B-o-o-ring! The only thing saving it from a down arrow was a bromance in the works (more on that later) and the fact that the Brazilian heat has all the guys stripping down to their skivvies.

***Warning*** Spoilers below!

We start off with the Jalapenos trudging back to camp after voting off Girl Gone Too Soon To Name last week. In infrared we witness Crazy Lady Sandy running around hugging and kissing everyone as she thanks them for not voting her shrieking self off instead. Given that the night camera makes it look like she's sporting a scary ass mustache, I'm thinking she'd be better off just shaking hands.

On a side-note, I've always been creeped out by how everyone's eyes look in the nighttime shots on Survivor. Now they remind of the dead-eyed parents in Coraline.

The women of the new "Survivor"
While there will be no fully-realized lesbians when Survivor's 19th season kicks off in February, there are among the contestants a lot of self-professed "tomboys" and "former softball players." Or, as I like to call them, "gateway labels."

This time around, the wilderness-savvy warriors (or fame whores) will survive in the highlands of Tocantins, which, according to Wikipedia, is a state in Brazil, and not the imaginary home of Toucan Sam, as I originally thought when I read the press release. (Although, how awesome would it be if Survivor 20 took place somewhere like Narnia or Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? Reality TV is imaginary; embrace it.)

Before every season of Survivor, I like to look at the contestants' promo shots and job descriptions to try to predict who has an actual chance. Here's this season's batch of women:

Candace Smith, attorney from Dayton, Ohio

Carolina Eastwood, bartender from West Hollywood,...
