‘Vanguard’ Wins Series Award at Monte-Carlo Television Festival as Robin Wright Takes Crystal Nymph
Image
Sweden’s “Vanguard” won the Golden Nymph Award for best series at the 64th Monte-Carlo Television Festival Tuesday, while Germany’s “On a Day in September” won best fiction film. Robin Wright received the Crystal Nymph Award from Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco to recognize her career achievements.

The ceremony made an awkward start when during an energetic dance sequence between the co-hosts, British actor Ricky Whittle and French singer Shy’m, the latter suffered a wardrobe malfunction (à la Janet Jackson at the Super Bowl). Despite the fact the incident aired live on TVMonaco and was captured by photo agencies like Getty, the pair maintained their savoir faire and continued with the ceremony without referring to it.

The Rookie Season 7 Episode 7 Review: Why Are the Couples So Messy?
Image
The hour spent most of its time putting many of The Rookie‘s relationships under the scope.

Of course, we also got some harrowing moments that leave us wondering if Seth will even make it to the end of the season after questionable decisions on The Rookie Season 7 Episode 7.

And there’s some solace in knowing that Celina Juarez has graduated, not only as a rookie but as a character who has evolved enough to become endearing across the board.

(Disney/Mike Taing) Mickey is Too Sexy For His Shirt, And I’m Not Mad About It

Offhand, who knew there were so many female officers at the station? It seemed like every female cop in Los Angeles was behind the glass as a cocky Mickey charmed them during interrogation.

Ricky Whittle is absolutely delicious, and he didn’t seem to mind for a second that the hour took full...

The Rookie season 7, episode 7 preview: "The Mickey"
Image
A new bad boy is in town The Rookie season 7, episode 7, titled "The Mickey."

In addition to his flirting with the law, Mickey also appeals to the women officers of the LAPD, and it might distract them from doing their jobs accordingly. It'll be challenging, but like with the handling of all the criminals who crossed paths with the LAPD, the officers will get the job done for the city's protection.

More so, after the incredible and much-needed Chenford hook-up in The Rookie season 7, episode 6, "The Gala," it gave the fans the push for more Tim and Lucy, and could the plotline be a foreshadowing of the couple patching things up to renew their relationship? One could only hope.

While relationships are near the center of the exciting ABC drama, crime is first and foremost. There have been some interesting developments, but I'd be lying if they didn't stream into...

The series even created an episode around the canceled game Concord, as an ode to all the hard work that goes into creating these games and their worlds. ‘Secret Level’ Review: An IP Branding Exercise
Image
The aims of the animated anthology Secret Level, whose 15 shorts are based on video and tabletop games, are clear enough: As production company Blur Studio puts it on their website, “Secret Level is our love letter to gaming.” But despite the tangible earnestness of that claim, the series fails to shake off the cynicism of its commercial function and blinkered politics. Beneath flashes of beauty and fits of inspiration lies an elaborate branding exercise.

Secret Level features a handful of shorts that conjure impressive moods. The bleak industrial landscapes in “Armored Core: Asset Management” all but subsume the episode’s protagonist (Keanu Reeves)—and the formidable mech he pilots—conveying the extent of his alienation and the stakes of his mission; the economical “Warhammer 40,000: And They Shall Know No Fear” spares us unnecessary dialogue, setting its space marines loose with sweltering kineticism; and the martial arts revenge tale of...

Land of Bad Is an Accurate War Film That Deserves a Bigger Audience
Image
Despite initial mixed reviews, Land of Bad found fame on Netflix with a star-studded cast. The film's realism comes from real-life Jtac elements and consultant Jason Kinney's influence. The action-packed military thriller Land of Bad pays homage to '90s films with accurate details.

Despite its initial release in February 2024 and less than stellar reviews, William Eubank's Land of Bad found newfound fame when the film made its Netflix debut on July 18, 2024. The action thriller even managed to claim a spot on Netflix's Global Top 10 list during the week spanning July 22 to July 28. The film has a star-studded cast, with Liam Hemsworth and Russell Crowe taking on central roles. The actors are joined by Hemsworth's brother, Luke, alongside Milo Ventimiglia, Ricky Whittle, Chuka Ikogwe, and Daniel MacPherson.

Land of Bad, although another addition to the highly saturated genre of war/military action thrillers, is Eubank's first venture into a purely action-centered film.

A Liam Hemsworth & Russell Crowe Action Thriller Is Climbing Up The Netflix Charts
Image
There's something about low-to-mid-budget action movies and Netflix that just seem to go very well together. Maybe it's just because action fans are loyal and these movies are often the ones that people don't get a chance to see in theaters. Maybe it's because people are often just looking for something easy enough to half watch in the background while doing other things. Right or wrong, action can be viewed as a better option for that than, say, an Oscar-winning drama. Whatever equation has made it so, Russell Crowe and Liam Hemsworth's "Land of Bad" has found a sizable audience on Netflix as of late.

The action/war flick from director William Eubank, who previously helmed "Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin," has been sitting comfortably in the Netflix Top 10 films chart for the past couple of weeks. As of this writing, it is sitting at number three behind "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire...

Russell Crowe's Under-The-Radar 2024 Action Thriller Becomes A Netflix Global Hit
Image
Land of Bad, Russell Crowe's under-the-radar action thriller from 2024, becomes a global hit on Netflix with 8.7 million views. Crowe, once an A-list actor, has faced setbacks recently but Land of Bad stands out with positive reviews. Despite box office disappointment, the action thriller is praised as a solid survival movie with a smart cast.

Land of Bad, Russell Crowe's under-the-radar action thriller from 2024, becomes a global hit on Netflix. Co-written and directed by William Eubank (Underwater), the new war film follows a US Army special forces team that is ambushed while on a mission to recover an intelligence asset, and their sole hope for survival rests with a distant Air Force drone operator who aids them during a grueling 48-hour battle. Other than Crowe, Land of Bad's cast includes Liam Hemsworth, Luke Hemsworth, Ricky Whittle, and Milo Ventimiglia.

Now, after flying under the radar for much of 2024, Crowe's...

Why The 100 Killed Off Lincoln In Season 3
Image
Ricky Whittle left The 100 due to conflicts with showrunner Jason Rothenberg, leading to Lincoln's exit in season 3. Whittle endured mistreatment from Rothenberg, prompting him to choose the role of Shadow Moon in American Gods. Despite a toxic workplace on The 100, Whittle's departure ultimately allowed him for a fulfilling career shift.

After being a regular character, Lincoln, The 100's Trikru warrior, was killed off in season 3 because actor Ricky Whittle refused to continue working with showrunner Jason Rothenberg. Coming shortly after the controversial death of Lexa (Alycia Debnam-Carey), Lincoln's exit cemented The 100 season 3 as being one of its more controversial and least-liked chapters. Lincoln entered a relationship with The 100's Octavia Blake (Marie Avgeropoulos) in season 1, elevating him to an important part of the cast in season 2. At least, thats what was supposed to happen until personal conflicts got in the way.

Ricky Whittle left The 100 because he found...

9 The 100 Actors Who Left The Show Before The Ending (& Why)
Image
The 100 saw several actors leave the show due to conflicts with the creator and harmful treatment of characters, but Eliza Taylor remained throughout. Actors on successful shows like The 100 often leave to pursue other opportunities, leading to the departure of key cast members. The deaths of fan-favorite characters like Lincoln and Lexa sparked controversy and criticism among viewers.

Many prominent The 100 actors left the show before it ended, though the "why" behind these departures varies greatly. The post-apocalyptic science fiction drama, which is an adaptation of Kass Morgan's young-adult novels of the same name, aired on The CW from 2014 to 2020. Across 100 episodes, the popular show received flack for the harmful ways it killed off fan-favorite characters, putting the TV series' creator Jason Rothenberg at the center of several high-profile conflicts. Even so, no matter how characters were written off the show, The 100 saw actors come and go for a variety of reasons.

Recasting Luke Cage For The MCU: 10 Perfect Actors To Replace Mike Colter After Uncertain Comments
Image
Mike Colter has suggested that he may not reprise the role of Luke Cage in the McU's future, leaving Marvel Studios the opportunity to recast the Hero of Harlem. Luke Cage could be a huge character in the McU's future, particularly since he ends up leading the Avengers in Marvel Comics, so a new actor needs to represent this bigger role. Ricky Whittle, Trevante Rhodes, Laz Alonso, Y'lan Noel, Aldis Hodge, and Chad L. Coleman, among others, could be perfect at bringing a new Luke Cage into the MCU.

Mike Colter has recently suggested that he may not return as Luke Cage, despite having played the character for four years in Netflix's Defenders Saga, meaning the popular Hero of Harlem could be recast for the MCU. Mike Colter first appeared as Luke Cage in 2015's Jessica Jones season 1, before going on to appear in The Defenders, Jessica Jones season 2, and his own two-season series,...

Casting John Stewart For The Dcu Green Lantern Reboot
Image
John Stewart will debut in the Dcu's Lanterns series. Potential actors include John David Washington, Aldis Hodge, and Jovan Adepo. The DC Universe reboot has already cast its first Green Lantern, with Nathan Fillion playing Guy Gardner.

The John Stewart version of Green Lantern has been confirmed to be part of the new DC Universe, and there are a few exciting options for who could bring the popular DC hero to life. The Dceu failed the Green Lanterns, with the space cops having little more than an unnamed Lantern appear as a cameo in 2017's Justice League. Based on the Green Lantern Corps' lore and its members, a movie about one or more of Earth's Green Lanterns would have had the potential to become one of the Dceu's best films.

Director Zack Snyder cast the Green Lantern John Stewart for his Justice League, with Wayne T. Carr in the role.

How ‘Land of Bad’ Distributor The Avenue Is Disrupting the Action Thriller Space
Image
It’s been four years since The Avenue first launched, and the indie distributor just scored its first top 10 film with William Eubank’s “Land of Bad.”

The action flick starring Liam Hemsworth, Russell Crowe, Luke Hemsworth, Ricky Whittle and Milo Ventimiglia opened on Feb. 16, had the fourth-highest per screen average over the holiday weekend and was the only independent film in the top 10.

While indie films in awards contention can often make a modest box office dent, it’s unusual for an action film like “Land of Bad” to reach such heights: the actioner’s four-day total on opening weekend was $2.1 million from 1,057 screens.

President of domestic marketing and distribution JJ Caruth says the box office success of “Land of Bad” is a strong signal that audiences are hungry for more action-packed movies. “I’m just happy to see an independent film succeed at the box office. It’s...
