Olivia Cooke's 10 Best Movies And TV Shows
Image
The best Olivia Cooke movies and TV shows reveal one of the most consistently uphill career trajectories of any actor to enter the spotlight in the last few decades and include a staggeringly consistent number of critically acclaimed projects. Born in 1993 in the UK, Olivia Cooke is most widely recognized for her role as Alicent Hightower in HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, as well as shows like Bates Motel and highly celebrated movies such as Sound of Metal and Me and Earl and the Dying Girl.

Olivia Cooke’s on-screen career started in 2012 in BBC miniseries like Blackout and The Secret of Crickley Hall. However, it was the 2014 horror The Quiet Ones (which was filmed several years before it released) that allowed her to lay the foundations of her career. Word of Cooke’s performance in The Quiet Ones quickly spread, and from there the...

Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Image
The Ouija: Origin of Evil episode of The Black Sheep was Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Brandon Nally, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.

The Ouija board, and that’s weejee board not weeja board with all due respect to Joe Bob Briggs, has been a constant source of fascination since it’s inception in 1890. Ghostly movements and other supernatural appearances went back further than that and there were crude inceptions before 1890 but that’s when the board as we know it came about. It was commercialized sometime later and of course; it’s showed up as a device in horror movies ever since. The Witchboard series that started in 1986 is probably the most popular series that features the spirit communicator but another, more straightforward series called Ouija is also out there. While the first one that came out in...

‘The Mountain Between Us’ Director to Helm Adaptation of Comic ‘Infidel’ for TriStar (Exclusive)
Hany Abu-Assad at an event for The 78th Annual Academy Awards (2006)
Hany Abu-Assad, who most recently directed Fox’s “The Mountain Between Us,” has come on to direct the adaptation of the popular comic book “Infidel” for TriStar Pictures.

TriStar landed the rights to the comic in May in a competitive auction that saw several studios pursuing before TriStar won the bidding war. Academy Award-winner Michael Sugar and Ashley Zalta of Sugar 23 are attached to produce the project along with Anonymous Content.

Juliet Snowden and Stiles White are penning the script.

Written by Pornsak Pichetshote and illustrated by Aaron Campbell and released in March by Image Comics, “Infidel” is a haunted house story for the 21st century, following an American Muslim woman and her multi-racial neighbors who find themselves living in a building haunted by strange creatures that seemingly feed on xenophobia.

Nicole Brown and Nick Krishnamurthy will oversee the project for TriStar Pictures.

Abu-Assad’s star has been on the...

'Mr. Robot' creator Sam Esmail to direct Bermuda Triangle film
Rami Malek in Mr. Robot (2015)
Project details nowhere to be found.

Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail will direct a film about the infamous Bermuda Triangle for Universal Pictures.

Esmail will write the script from earlier drafts by Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, and Juliet Snowden & Stiles White.

The Bermuda Triangle is a region over the Caribbean that earned notoriety several decades ago for press coverage about a number of planes and ships that reportedly went missing after travelling through the area.

Appropriately enough, Esmail, his fellow producers, and Universal are keeping plot details under wraps.

Dylan Clark (Planet Of The Apes series, Oblivion) will produce through his Universal-based Dylan Clark Productions, alongside Esmail and Chad Hamilton for Esmail Corp.  Millar and Gough will serve as executive producers

As previously announced, Esmail is lining up the Amazon Studios project Homecoming to star Julia Roberts.

Universal Cable Productions and Anonymous Content will produce that show, based on a fiction podcast by Gimlet Media about a...

Sam Raimi Will Direct Bermuda Triangle Thriller Next
Sam Raimi at an event for Spider-Man 2 (2004)
Horror legend Sam Raimi has signed on to direct a new Bermuda Triangle mystery thriller project for Skydance Productions. The thriller is actually one of three separate films currently in development about the mysterious Bermuda Triangle, with one set up at Universal and the other being worked on at Warner Bros. No plot details have been given for any of these projects, with each studio worried about their own takes getting leaked.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the project's plot details are being kept a secret so much that Sam Raimi had to visit the Skydance Productions offices just to read the script. While the story details are being kept under wraps, it was revealed that the script itself was written by the writing team of Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard, whose writing credits include The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and the Netflix series Narcos.

Skydance Plans Bermuda Triangle Film
Skydance Productions is reportedly developing a film based on the legendary and mysterious Caribbean area of the Bermuda Triangle.

Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard ("Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time," "The Sorcerer's Apprentice") are rewriting an original screenplay by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (2009's "Friday the 13th").

Running between the Florida Straits, Bermuda and Puerto Rico, the inexplicable disappearances of planes and ships in the area over the years have been rumored to be due to paranormal or extraterrestrial causes.

The area is hot right now for filmmakers as both Universal and Warner Bros. Pictures are also developing movies about the area. "Ouija" screenwriters Juliet Snowden and Stiles White are presently rewriting the script for the Universal version. There's also another version penned by Dan Kunka which is sitting at Warners and which Charles Roven is slated to produce.

No Joke: Ouija Scribes Brought In To Rewrite Universal’s Bermuda Triangle Horror
You’ve got to laugh sometimes at the way Hollywood works – despite last fall’s Ouija being absolutely, appallingly awful on nearly every count, the horror pic grossed a surprisingly strong $102.5 million against a chump-change $5 million budget. And so, Juliet Snowden and Stiles White, the scribes behind that faulty frightener (which rests at 7% on Rotten Tomatoes), aren’t just finding more work – they’re being brought in to improve already-written scripts.

Universal has tapped the screenwriters, who also wrote The Possession and Knowing (both bad), to rewrite its untitled Bermuda Triangle pic, which centers on the conspiracy-laden stretch of water between the Florida Straits, Bermuda and Puerto Rico, where multiple ships and planes have inexplicably disappeared over the years. Alfred Gough and Miles Millar brought the pitch for the pic to Universal back in March of 2012 – along with Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark, they’ll be involved as producers.

Ouija Summons Up A Sequel
Ouija (2014)
Ouija, the teen horror from first-time director Stiles White, may not have spoken to the critics much, but managed to manifest a healthy box-office haul. It beat John Wick to the top of the charts on its opening weekend last October, and currently boasts a worldwide haul just under $100m. You might think a sequel was inevitable. And you'd be right! Universal has broken out the board again. The first film starred Olivia Cooke, and White himself wrote the screenplay with his regular cohort Juliet Snowden (Boogeyman, Knowing, The Possession). In an intriguing change, however, the sequel will be working from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Jeff Howard, who were behind last year's excellent Oculus. Perhaps this will be one of those rare occasions when a follow-up drastically improves on its predecessor. It's unclear at this stage whether Flanagan is interested in directing Ouija 2.Elsewhere the roster is the same,...

Ouija (2014)
'Ouija 2' Is Happening
Ouija (2014)
Although it didn't fare well with the nation's critics, with just a 7% "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes, those who enjoyed last fall's Ouija will be getting a sequel, according to producer Bradley Fuller. While conducting an interview with Collider for Project Almanac, the producer confirmed that a Ouija sequel is in development, although he would not confirm any plot or casting details, only that, "Ouija 2 is coming." It isn't know if Bradley Fuller and his producing partner Andrew Form have hired a screenwriter to craft the story at this time.

While Ouija certainly wasn't a critical hit, the thriller did take in $90.6 million worldwide from just a $5 million production budget. Those numbers are similar to another Universal Pictures' low-budget hit, The Purge, which took in $89.3 million from a $3 million budget, and last year's follow-up The Purge: Anarchy, which bested its predecessor with $110 million worldwide from a $9 million budget. Both...

Ouija review
PG-13 rated horror from the land of Blumhouse, granted. But Ouija has one or two things going for it...

When you're basing a big screen movie off of something other than a book or a successful television show or another movie, you're looking for trouble. When you base your film off of a popular childhood toy, you're setting yourself up for failure. You have to be amazingly creative to pull that little trick off, something the Pixar clan accomplished with the Toy Story films and Miller and Lord pulled off with the world of Lego. However, those games are all friendly, colorful games. There's a darker game sitting on shelves with the Hasbro stamp, and that's the Ouija board.

Part toy, part hoax, part occult tool, the Ouija has a unique place in popular culture. Popularized in the Western world by American spiritualist Pearl Cullan circa Wwi as a tool to contact the dead,...

Film Review: The Worst Horror Film of 2014, ‘Ouija’ is ‘Mama’ From 11 Narcoleptic Producers
Chicago – Out of respect for the filmmakers and actors, I don’t walk out on films. I hold true to that even when I know in the first 10 minutes the film’s not for me. Perhaps the second act could surprise me. Maybe the whole film is a flop but it redeems itself with shock and awe in the last 5 minutes.

Rating: 1.0/5.0

But let’s be honest: As much as you can tell yourself you’ll walk into “Ouija” with an open mind, it’s impossible to have high hopes about this latest “horror” film in a tiresome string of formulaic attempts. You’re not expecting Oscar-caliber performances and that’s why these kinds of films can get away with casting no one you’ve ever heard of.

This time, Olivia Cooke takes center stage. You might remember her if you saw this year’s sci-fi flop “The Signal” with Laurence Fishburne.

Ouija Review
While there are an unlimited number of brilliantly eloquent metaphors a film critic can use to describe what an utter travesty Ouija is, no words need to be uttered beyond “Ouija is bad.” I could end my review right there and you’d all be wiser knowing that simple descriptor, plus I wouldn’t have to waste another 600 or so words explaining why Ouija embodies everything wrong with today’s mainstream horror scene. Writer/Director Stiles White and co-writer Juliet Snowden take a steaming, repugnant turd directly onto the horror genre’s chest and don’t even say thank you, laughing their way into theaters nationwide.

But who am I kidding? Ouija is going to walk away a box office champion when the weekend numbers are tallied, so my disapproval really won’t mean a lick in the grand scheme of things. Movies of this quality level will still cheaply...

Ouija – The Review
Although Summer has long passed, it’s not too late for another youth-oriented movie adaptation. So, what is it, another flick based on a popular series of “young adult” novels, or perhaps a “tear-jerker” like The Fault In Our Stars or If I Stay? Is it another comic book or classic TV show getting the big screen treatment? Nope, this is based on a game. But not a video or computer game like the Lara Croft franchise or the recent Need For Speed. It’s an “old school” board game, one that’s been around for ages. The box office sinking of Battleship has not deterred the folks at Hasbro Films (an off-shoot of the toy empire). After all, GI Joe and those Transformers are still raking in the bucks. Plus The Lego Movie’s success will spawn a trio of spin-offs. Oh, and there’s a chance of cross-over...

Ouija (2014)
Review: 'Ouija' is by the numbers, full of mechanical scares and nothing else
Ouija (2014)
"Ouija" is professionally made, a classically-styled ghost story/mystery, and perhaps the single strangest piece of product placement ever made. It is also, unfortunately, so by-the-numbers that it feels like it was made by a computer program designed to simulate horror films. Juliet Snowden and Stiles White have been co-writers on films like "The Possession" and "Knowing," but this time out, White is also directing. He knows what he's doing, and the way the film is made, it looks and feels exactly like it's supposed to feel. It is the very model of what Blumhouse wants to make. It's slick. It's simple and self-contained. It has a very immediate and understandable hook. It should work. It doesn't, though, and it's an exercise in frustration as a result. When Debbie (Shelley Hennig) apparently kills herself, her best friend Laine (Olivia Cooke) has a hard time accepting it as a suicide. She...

Review: 'Ouija' Starring Olivia Cooke, Daren Kagasoff and Douglas Smith
After doing rigorous testing, i.e., sitting through “Ouija”, we can now confirm that you can, in fact, jump out of your seat with fear and roll your eyes at the same time. This film is effectively scary, filled with plenty of jump moments and a few slow-burning scenes, but the scares aren’t enough to balance the poor writing and lack of imagination. We can’t help but wonder what movie would have resulted had a version from Marti Noxon (of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and the underrated “Fright Night” remake) actually made it to the screen. She was attached to the script, but this Hasbro-produced film shuffled through a number of writers and filmmakers before finally landing on first-time director Stiles White, who wrote the script with Juliet Snowden. The pair had previously worked together on critical disasters “The Possession,” “Knowing” and “Boogeyman.” But instead of Noxon’s...

Ouija (2014)
Does the new 'Ouija' trailer spell out 'Next Big Halloween Franchise'?
Ouija (2014)
(Cbr) Cynical people tend to say films based on toys and games are just there to sell more products. We’re not quite sure that’s the case with Hasbro’s "Ouija," as it revolves around a group of kids bringing something evil over from the other side while using the spirit board to try to contact a dead friend. That’s some pretty twisted advertising! Speaking of which, a U.K. version of the first trailer just hit, featuring a lot of previously seen footage. The film stars "Bates Motel" actress Olivia Cooke as well as fellow up-and-comers Ana Coto, Bianca A. Santos, Douglas Smith and Daren Kagasoff. Stiles White, who previously worked in the special effects field, directed from a script he wrote with Juliet Snowden. Universal's Timely Horror Adventure 'Ouija' Reveals New UK Trailer
There aren't a lot of promising opportunities for big screen horror this fall it seems, but Universal Pictures is going to try to rake in the Halloween audiences with Ouija, their supernatural horror adventure inspired by the creepy "board game" of the same name. But as the tagline so obviously points out, this isn't a game. A new theatrical trailer has arrived, and while it's a little better than the first teaser trailer, it still hits every horror cliche you would expect in a film like this from creepy dolls to laughing kids. Though I like the use of the game board eyepiece, Everything else seems so predictable and full of cheap jump scares. Watch below! Here's the UK trailer for Stiles White's Ouija from YouTube (via The Playlist): Ouija is directed by Stiles White, director of Boogeyman, The Possession and Knowing, who co-wrote the script with Juliet Snowden,...

Watch The Board Game That Kills In New Trailer For Ouija
“You damn fool kids will never learn,” said the tubby fisherman in The Blair Witch Project. While that plaid-clad chap was referring to the meddlesome antics of three young filmmakers in the woods, his brief mutter still stands true in regards to the activities in most teen horrors today. Which ties in nicely, as a new trailer proves that’s still very much the case in the upcoming horror film, Ouija.

If you haven’t already guessed, the movie involves a gaggle of youngsters who happen upon a Ouija board and attempt to rouse a spirit from the afterlife. Co-written by Stiles White and Juliet Snowden, and directed by the former, it’s guaranteed to hit the spot for audiences venturing to the theatre this Halloween. Today’s trailer, brought to you by Universal, delivers sufficient teases for the late show crowds.

Does the tale of a bunch of kids...

Extended Ouija TV Spot Wants To Play A Game
We’re still very much in the midst of August, but Universal is already taking steps to ensure that Ouija will be a familiar name by the time October rolls around. A new TV spot for the upcoming horror title has landed online, tightening footage we already saw in the first theatrical preview into a concise, if less scary teaser.

Ouija is one of a few horror pics that will be competing for your screams (and hard-earned cash) come Halloween – earlier in the month, we’ll be getting The Conjuring spinoff Annabelle, anthology ABCs of Death 2, horror-tinged battle epic Dracula Untold and freaky threequel V/H/S Viral. So what sets this one apart? Its young, photogenic cast (which includes a wealth of supporting players from teen-targeted TV) might be enough.

Douglas Smith (HBO’s Big Love) and Olivia Cooke (A&E’s Bates Motel) topline a cast which also...

Dark Powers Called Upon in Universal's 'Ouija' Horror First Trailer
The trailer has been playing in theaters for nearly a month now, and with the release of The Purge: Anarchy coming this weekend, Universal Pictures has finally decided to unleash the trailer for their next horror venture Ouija. Inspired by the creepy, supernatural "board game" of the same name, the film follows a group of friends who get caught up in the dark powers of this mystical board, forcing each of them to confront unimaginable horrors. Actually, by the looks of this trailer, the horrors are pretty basic, and don't really offer anything in the vein of a promising story. It just hits every cliche in the book pretty hard. Watch! Here's the first trailer for Stiles White's Oujia, from the "Pretty Little Liars" Facebook page: Ouija is directed by Stiles White, director of Boogeyman, The Possession and Knowing, who co-wrote the script with Juliet Snowden, the co-writer of all those films.

Most of the big 80s horror franchises ventured into the world of 3D at one point or another, but one series that never asked you to slap on those blue and red glasses was Poltergeist. That all changes next year, however, when the reboot haunts theaters. Read on!

The Poltergeist Remake Will Arrive In 2015
Hey, remember when Hollywood made original films? No? True, it has been awhile. Instead the powers that be continue to recycle and reuse ideas and plot devices from the movie-making days of yore, preferring to spend money on reboots, remakes, and sequels rather than actually come up with something unique. The most recent entry into the ‘unnecessary remakes’ genre is Poltergeist, which finally has a release date for 2015.

The Poltergeist remake will semi-update the original 1982 film from Tobe Hooper and Steven Spielberg. This time, a family having money troubles relocates to an outdated suburban home, where a spirit kidnaps their youngest daughter. The plot is fairly close to the original, although I suppose we can maybe expect a few new scares. I certainly hope so, otherwise what’s the point?

This new Poltergeist will likely be a bit bloodier and more violent than the original, if the current trend in...
