Shaun Duff
- Actor
Shaun Duff was born in Union County, New Jersey, to Dawn Gaye Duff, a professional singer, mix media artist and entrepreneur, and Douglas Jayne, a pleasant drunk. She later remarried to J. Howard Duff, a rock and blues guitarist. Although of Irish and English descent, Shaun grew up in a large Italian family who took him in as their own. It was later discovered that his blood grandfather on his English side was of Ashkenazi descent, Zvi Keren (a.k.a. Howard Kim) the well-known Israeli jazz musician.
With an aptitude for electronics, he attended Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey, where after 4 years of average academic performance moved to New York to work in technology. While in New York (c. 1996-2003) he started painting and taking roles in various minor productions in the burgeoning field of internet video.
On September 11th, 2001, Shaun survived the collapse of the South Tower of the World Trade Center. Prior to the event, he set up emergency triage on Broadway, on the corners of Ann and Fulton Street, with a stranger he had met in the chaos, spent the next 3 days in 'The Pit' helping to deliver supplies to the other first responders.
Six months after the disaster, he left Wall Street and worked randomly as a leaflet distributor, telemarketer, and exterminator. After unexpectedly finding himself living in China in 2003, Shaun gained distinction by becoming China's first foreign weatherman on their international television station.
While best known for his television work, he much prefers playing roles in small low-budget independent films.
