Drop: Blumhouse, Platinum Dunes, Christopher Landon thriller receives a 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD release in June
Christopher Landon at an event for Burning Palms (2010)
Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon was supposed to be working on Scream 7 – but that project turned out to be so troubled, he had to activate his ejector seat and get out of there. While he has since been replaced on Scream 7 by Kevin Williamson, he has been busy lining up other genre projects, signing on to direct the werewolf thriller Big Bad and the “fast-paced thriller” Drop. Coming our way from Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes, the production company team that has previously brought us the Purge franchise, Drop moved forward first, reaching theatres on April 11th. Just over two weeks later, the movie got a digital release and is available on Prime Video at This Link. If you’re more interested in watching the movie on 4K Uhd, Blu-ray, or DVD than you are in checking out the digital version, you’ll be glad to...

How Some “Very Creepy Shrek Memes” AirDropped to Producers Led to Thriller ‘Drop’
Image
The origin story of Drop — the new Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes thriller that sees a widowed mother’s first date upended when she starts receiving anonymous, threatening messages to her phone — began three years ago when its producers were vacationing in Italy.

Cameron Fuller and Sam Lerner were mid-dinner “in a packed restaurant and someone started AirDropping very creepy Shrek memes” to Lerner’s girlfriend Olivia Sui.

“We tried to figure out who it was the entire night, and they kept coming and we couldn’t figure it out,” Fuller, who produced the film with Michael Bay and his father Brad Fuller, told The Hollywood Reporter at the Los Angeles premiere on Tuesday. “The whole meal was about targeting the one person who was doing this. We followed the one person we were 100 percent sure it was to the pool where we could isolate their AirDrop with ours and we’d know it was him,...

Drop
Image
Great ideas can strike in the strangest of circumstances. In the case of Drop, it came when Olivia Sui, girlfriend of the film’s executive producer Sam Lerner, received mysterious Shrek memes (of all things) through AirDrop, Apple’s close-proximity file-sharing feature. Swap ogre memes for murder threats and you have director Christopher Landon’s ridiculously fun tech thriller, which stretches its premise to absurd heights befitting of its inspiration.

It starts out innocently enough. Violet (Meghann Fahy) has been out of the dating game for so long that her wardrobe has gone full mum-core. But with the promise of getting Violet’s five-year-old son into bed by 8pm, her sister pushes her to venture out for a first date with photographer Henry (a charming Brandon Sklenar). Over dinner at a fancy high-rise eatery, they flirt despite the nerves — until Violet’s phone buzzes with messages that escalate from weird to deadly.

Image
Drop, Universal and Blumhouse’s new thriller, released its first trailer on Wednesday, and the preview shows Meghann Fahy and Brandon Sklenar go on a horror story of a first date.

The film features Fahy (The White Lotus and The Perfect Couple) as Violet, a widowed mom who’s trying to get back out on the dating scene. She goes on her first date in years at a fancy restaurant with Sklenar’s (It Ends with Us and Yellowstone: 1923) character, Henry. However, things take a turn for the worse when Violet keeps receiving texts telling her to kill her date or else her son will die.

Meghann Fahy Goes on a Killer First Date in Trailer for Blumhouse Thriller ‘Drop’
Image
Dating can be a chore — but for Meghann Fahy’s single-mother character in the upcoming Blumhouse thriller “Drop,” it can also quickly turn into a deadly game of iPhone cat and mouse.

Directed and co-written (with Jillian Jacobs) by Christopher Landon (“Happy Death Day”), the movie stars Fahy as a woman on a chic first date who is just starting to hit it off with the handsome man across the table from her when her phone begins buzzing with notifications. Someone in the restaurant is Airdropping messages to her… messages that become increasingly personal and threatening when they include photos of her son. The rules to saving her boy are simple: She can’t tell anyone what’s going on… and she has to kill her date.

If anyone can accomplish a lot with just facial expressions, though, it might be Fahy, who scored an Emmy nomination for her work...

Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, Happy Death Day, Freaky—Christopher Landon directed some of my absolute favorite films of the 2010s, so I'm always excited to see what he's cooking up next behind the camera, and his latest movie, Drop (written by Jillian Jacobs & Chris Roach), is certainly no exception. Ahead of its April 11th theatrical release, the official trailer for Drop promises that "first dates can be a nightmare," especially when technology-fueled blackmail is involved.

From blockbuster producers Michael Bay and Jason Blum and acclaimed horror director Christopher Landon comes a blood-chilling, original fast paced thriller Drop.

Drop stars Emmy nominee Meghann Fahy along with Brandon Sklenar, Violett Beane Jacob Robinson and Ed Weeks. The film is written by Jillian Jacobs & Chris Roach.

Why Blumhouse Scrapped a ‘Truth or Dare’ Meta Sequel With Tyler Posey and Lucy Hale at the Last Minute (Exclusive)
Image
The 2018 Blumhouse chiller “Truth or Dare” was a profitable hit for the company, making over $95 million worldwide on a $3.5 million budget. The film — about a demon named Calux that is activated by the titular party game — starred a buzzy cast full of young talent, including “Teen Wolf” lead Tyler Posey, “Pretty Little Liars” star Lucy Hale, Violett Beane, Landon Liboiron and Sam Lerner, who all bonded offscreen during filming. That camaraderie led to a sequel idea that could have been one of Blumhouse’s most innovative movies.

While talking about his upcoming film “Imaginary,” Jeff Wadlow, who directed “Truth or Dare” and co-wrote it with Michael Reisz, Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach, revealed the ambitious plans for a sequel that almost started production during quarantine.

“We actually wrote a ‘Truth or Dare’ sequel,” he said. “In the first one, there’s about nine characters and seven of them die. I...

The Goldbergs: Here's Why the Series Finale Lacked Closure
Jeff Garlin, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Troy Gentile, Hayley Orrantia, and Sean Giambrone in The Goldbergs' Excellent Adventure (2021)
The cancellation of The Goldbergs didn't come as a big surprise to fans earlier this year.

The series was in its tenth season, and numbers were falling, but given that Wednesday's finale felt more like a season finale, there are questions about whether there was time to craft a conclusion.

Unfortunately, the cast learned the series was done four days after the final episode was actually filmed.

Wendi McLendon-Covey, who played Beverly Goldberg for all ten seasons, opened up about the news in an interview with TV Line.

They told us like four days after we wrapped our season. So, like, two days before our wrap party," the star expressed.

"In retrospect, I guess [it] was the best way for it to happen because if we knew ahead of time, nothing would've gotten done. We would've all been sobbing," McLendon-Covey added.

Had the creatives been given more notice, the ideal finale would have included more closure.
