Exclusive: Prime Video has opted not to renew The Sticky for a second season. The news comes more than two months after the six-episode first season of the Canadian comedy, starring Margo Martindale, Chris Diamantopoulos and Guillaume Cyr and guest starring Jamie Lee Curts, was released on Dec. 6.
Like another recently canceled Prime Video freshman comedy series, The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh, The Sticky could not break through and draw wide enough audience despite solid reviews (80% on Rotten Tomatoes). Comedies take longer than dramas to, um, stick, which could explain why streamers are doing fewer half-hour shows and why those shows have a generally higher cancellation rate after a single season.
The Sticky, produced by Blumhouse Television, Curtis’ Comet Pictures, Jonathan Levine’s Megamix and Sphere Media, was inspired by a real-life heist that made global headlines in 2012, which saw more than $18 million worth of maple syrup stolen from Quebec’s national reserves.

Actor Jennifer Grey addresses the ongoing delays of the much anticipated Dirty Dancing 2. The original movie, directed by Emile Ardolino in 1987, follows Baby Houseman (Jennifer Grey) as she falls in love with dance instructor Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze) at a Catskill resort in the summer of 1963. It became a cultural phenomenon upon release, earning over $200 million at the box office against a modest $5 million budget. Lionsgate announced Dirty Dancing 2 in 2020 with Grey returning as both star and executive producer, but the project has been slow to take shape, with production repeatedly pushed back.
While speaking to Collider, Grey opened up about the continued delays surrounding Dirty Dancing 2, which will be directed by Jonathan Levine. Though she did not disclose specific reasons, she stressed that production would only move forward once creative elements are fully locked in. Grey said:

Demi Moore doesn’t really want more “Ghost.”
The actress told Variety that after it was announced in 2023 that Channing Tatum was set to produce a remake of the Oscar-winning 1990 film, she had her own doubts.
“There are some films better left alone,” Moore said. “But it depends on what the take is. […] Channing is incredibly intelligent and talented — who knows what he would bring to it if it happened.”
Moore starred alongside Patrick Swayze in the acclaimed romance-drama that centered on a widow (Moore) who is visited by the spirit of her husband (Swayze) after he is murdered. Whoopi Goldberg won the Academy Award for playing a psychic who helps solve the case. “Ghost” earned five Academy Award nominations, garnering another win for Best Original Screenplay.
“The success of ‘Ghost’ is really about alchemy,” “The Substance” star Moore said. “Think about Whoopi, who anchored the comedy in a magical way.

Presented by Lisa Frankenstein, 1989 Week is dialing the clock back to the crossroads year for the genre with a full week of features that dig six feet under into the year. Today, Jenn Adams tears a page from the new horror comedy and thirsts on threats similar to Lisa’s Creature.
Everybody loves a bad boy. There’s something appealing about a guy who disregards the rules and dreamy delinquents have been known to make even wholesome girls grow weak in the knees. Sometimes it’s the air of danger that heightens the appeal, allowing us to look past the most monstrous physiques.
The new horror comedy Lisa Frankenstein delivers a swoon worthy monster with Cole Sprouse’s Creature, a resurrected corpse who’s spent the last two centuries buried in the local Bachelor’s Cemetery. His tears may smell, and his body may be rotting, but the hunky fiend...

Keanu Reeves and Charlize Theron have gotten to usher in a new era of action thanks to their efforts from both 87Eleven and 87North productions with their respective films, John Wick and Atomic Blonde. Both films aimed to combine the chaos and extended sequences of gunplay action with raw, gritty martial arts in a stylized manner. Additionally, Seth Rogen had dabbled a bit in crossing over into action with Pineapple Express and The Green Hornet with various responses.

Shakespeare's plays have had a profound cultural impact and have been adapted into various forms of media, including movies and TV shows. Many movies, such as "Warm Bodies" and "She's the Man," have been inspired by Shakespeare's plays, with unique twists on the original stories. Movies like "The Lion King" and "10 Things I Hate About You" are successful adaptations of Shakespeare's works, with clear similarities to the original plays.
The works of William Shakespeare have served as inspiration for many other literary works, TV shows, movies, and more, and there are many movies that, instead of being true adaptations, were brilliantly inspired by the works of Shakespeare. William Shakespeare is widely regarded as the greatest writer in history, and his plays are still the subject of many studies and continue to be performed all over the world. Andy Serkis took it upon himself to undergo a dramatic transformation for his role as the villain in Long Shot, embracing extensive prosthetics and a wig. The film's director praised Serkis for making choices that enhanced his character and made it his own, even if it meant spending six hours a day in makeup. Serkis's character in the movie, Parker Wembley, draws inspiration from real-life figures like Richard Branson and Rupert Murdoch.
Andy Serkis plays the villain in Long Shot, but the actor went through a transformation so dramatic that he is almost unrecognizable as his character in the movie. On Seth Rogen’s first trip to TIFF, he supported a pair of films, including one with a challenging goal: cracking jokes about cancer.
In 2011, the Vancouver native made his way to Toronto for the premieres of Sarah Polley’s Take This Waltz — which focused on marital challenges for Rogen and onscreen wife Michelle Williams — and Jonathan Levine’s 50/50. The latter was loosely based on the real-life experiences of screenwriter Will Reiser and followed a radio personality played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt who gets diagnosed with spinal cancer (the film’s title references the survival rate). Rogen was a producer and played Gordon-Levitt’s supportive best friend alongside co-stars Anna Kendrick, Bryce Dallas Howard and Anjelica Huston.
One pivotal scene involved shaving Gordon-Levitt’s head, which the team had one chance to nail. “It was the first day of filming, and we improvised the whole thing, which is not wise when...

The success of "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" this summer was a sign that the box office has more or less fully recovered from the decimation of the Covid-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, Hollywood's studios have decided to celebrate this victory by strapping themselves to a rocket like Wile E. Coyote and firing themselves directly into another crisis. The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers' back-to-back failure to negotiate new deals with the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA means that Hollywood has been almost completely shut down by a dual actors and writers strike, something it hasn't faced for more than 60 years.
Since the actors strike means movie stars can't promote their work or even walk the red carpet at premieres, studios are already feeling the pain at the box office. Rather than return to the negotiating table with SAG-AFTRA, however, the favored solution has been to delay upcoming movies from their...

The release date for Dirty Dancing 2 has been delayed by over a year due to the ongoing strikes in Hollywood, with its release now expected in summer 2025. The sequel will need to address the absence of Patrick Swayze's character, Johnny, likely by portraying his character as having passed away, allowing Baby to work through her grief. Dance will continue to be a central theme in Dirty Dancing 2, with Grey's character possibly using it to find closure and resolution following Johnny's death. However, audiences will have to wait longer to see where the story goes.
The Dirty Dancing 2 release date has been pushed back by more than a year as the film encounters a new setback. Released in 1987, the original Dirty Dancing stars Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, telling the story of Frances "Baby" Houseman, who falls in love with dance instructor Johnny Castle while vacationing at a resort with her family.

Exclusive: Lionsgate is pushing the theatrical releases of this August’s White Bird: A Wonder Story and next year’s Dirty Dancing sequel from director Jonathan Levine due to the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike, we hear.
White Bird, the spin-off prequel to the studio’s 2017 box office smash Wonder, was set to launch limited on Aug. 18 and go wider on Aug. 25. It’s now undated for Q4 at the end of this year. That leaves the last weekend in August without a wide theatrical release, which isn’t that unusual for that point in summer. White Bird stars Helen Mirren and Gillian Anderson, and it’s the type of movie that really needs the push from its actors to raise it above the fray. Now it’s in the Oscar season corridor, which is a better spot than the dog days of August. Best to wait the strike out.

While Warm Bodies 2 news has been mostly quiet lately, there is still hope that a sequel to the 2013 zombie rom-com would eventually make its way to the big screen. Warm Bodies stars Nicholas Hoult (Renfield) as R, a zombie who still has his brain intact — at least enough that he can think, use deductive reasoning, and deliver the narration voiceover throughout the movie. However, he lost his ability to talk, has no memories of his past, and mostly just lumbers around with other members of the undead. That ends when he meets a live human named Julie (Teresa Palmer) and falls for her. The strange and quirky love story then starts with a side plot about a possible zombie cure.
The original Warm Bodies movie ended on a happy note, with R cured and the humans finding a way to bring some of their loved ones back to life. However,...

In a surprising move, Hulu has confirmed that the Nicole Kidman drama Nine Perfect Strangers will return for season 2. Adapted from the Liane Moriarty novel of the same name by Big Little Lies creator David E. Kelley, Nine Perfect Strangers unfolded in Tranquillum House, a mysterious wellness retreat overseen by the charismatic founder Masha (Kidman). The characters, who were played by recognizable actors such as Melissa McCarthy, Michael Shannon, and Regina Hall, arrived for a relaxing stay that ultimately proved to be the exact opposite of what they'd hoped for.
After the Nine Perfect Strangers season 1 finale debuted in November 2021, Hulu has confirmed that the show will be back for season 2. Per TVLine, Kidman will be back as Masha and in her capacity as executive producer. Murray Bartlett, who recently played Armond in The White Lotus season 1 and Frank in HBO's Last of Us adaptation, is in talks to join the cast.

Teens are one of the most integral aspects of the horror genre's audience and there's certainly no shortage of the best teen horror movies made for them or about them. The horror genre branches out into many different sub-genres, with one of the most popular being teen horror. Teen horror movies tend to feature young protagonists in the fight for their lives against a menacing serial killer, monster, ghost, or any other typical horror-movie fiend. Many are targeted specifically to a teen audience while still having universal appeal.
This is an important genre, as adults are usually equipped to deal with pressures in life, but teens are not and when their regular school and social lives are upended by a slasher killer or zombie outbreak, they are the last people anyone would expect to handle it. Of course, horror movies based on teens are not always highly regarded by critics,...

In 2012, the Canadian government-sanctioned Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers discovered that its precious barrels of sweet sap had been (gasp) stolen. Gone was the sugary liquid that filled the Fpaq warehouses. In its stead was mere water, unfit to pour over a hot stack of pancakes or glaze a juicy pork chop. It sounds silly, but the event cost Fpaq $18.7 million Cad and ranks among the most costly thefts in Canadian history. Judging by the fact that syrup production accounts for about $1.1 billion Cad to Canada's Gdp, the country's government took the crime very seriously. Now, the story is getting the Hollywood adaptation treatment in a half-hour comedy series coming to Prime Video.
Canada produces 90% of the world's maple syrup, and about 72% of that supply comes from the province of Quebec. That means at least 70% of the entire world's syrup was stolen and illegally distributed sometime between 2011 and...

It was previously announced that Curtis would executive produce the series, which was ordered at Amazon in April 2022. In addition, Guillaume Cyr has joined the show in one of its lead roles alongside Margo Martindale and Chris Diamantopoulos.

The official series decription states: “‘The Sticky’ revolves around Ruth Landry (Martindale), a tough, supremely competent maple syrup farmer who’s had it with being hemmed in by the polite, bureaucratic conventions native to her country’s identity. Especially now that that very bureaucracy is threatening to take away everything she loves: Her farm,...
