Exclusive: Cameras are rolling on Son of a Critch season 4.

The Canadian comedy was renewed earlier this year for a new 13-part run at public broadcaster CBC and principal photography is now underway in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Based on comedian Mark Critch’s memoir of the same name, the fourth season will follow a 14-year-old Mark, who begins high school on the cusp of the 1990s and once again finds himself on the bottom rung.

The new season will premiere in winter this year on streamer CBC Gem and CBC TV in Canada. Lionsgate Television has rights outside of Canada, and The CW had the previous three seasons in the States. It was officially renewed in May.

The CW has released trailers for its new series for the 2023-24 season: the AMC Studios-produced drama 61st Street; Canadian series Children Ruin Everything, Run the Burbs, Son of a Critch, The Spencer Sisters and Sullivan’s Crossing; UK series Everyone Else Burns; documentary film series I Am; reality series Fboy Island; and German eco-thriller drama series The Swarm. The CW Network has announced a partnership with CBC and Lionsgate Television to bring the acclaimed comedy series, Son of a Critch, to American audiences. The 13-episode first season of the series, created by comedian, actor, and writer Mark Critch, will debut on The CW in Summer 2023. The series is produced by Andrew Barnsley, the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning executive producer of “Schitt’s Creek,” and written by Tim McAuliffe, known for his work on “The Office” and “Last Man on Earth.”

Son of a Critch is a unique family comedy that follows the hilarious and heartfelt story of young Mark Critch coming of age in the 1980s. Based on the award-winning, bestselling memoir of the same name, the show provides a window into the life of a child who is much older inside than his 11 years, using comedy and self-deprecation to win friends and connect with the small collection of people in his limited world.

A Canadian comedy from the exec producer of Schitt’s Creek is heading to The CW.

The network has bought Son of a Critch to air this summer, reuniting Andrew Barnsley, who exec produced Schitt’s Creek, with former Pop TV boss Brad Schwartz, who is now The CW’s President of Entertainment.

The CW will air Son of a Critch, which comes from Canada’s CBC and Lionsgate Television, this summer.

The series was created by and stars Mark Critch, based on his memoir. It is the story of a young Mark coming of age in the 1980s. The comedy stars Mark Critch as his father, Mike, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (Pinocchio) as young Mark. Claire Rankin (Molly’s Game) stars as Mark’s mother, Mary, alongside newcomers Sophia Powers and Mark Rivera, who play classmates of young Mark. I never really understand the need to rename horror films once they have already been released under a different name, but I guess there are plenty of reasons that the audience just don’t need to know. American Ghost Story, formally known as Devil’s Mile (the title this film screened under at last years GrimmFest) is a film that managed to go through this process for its release in the UK, but luckily the film outshines the confusion.

They held a private intimate ceremony at St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church in Mottistone, England followed by a reception at Mottistone Manor, which Hunter is a relative of the estate owners.

Cumberbae’s are upset and probably think she isn’t good enough for him, we think he isn’t good enough for her, but regardless they look great together. We’re happy for the both of them, and can’t wait for the first mini sherlock to pop out.

A gang of psychotic convicts take a dangerous and ill-advised detour after brutally kidnapping two young girls. As the captors speed away, events quickly turn out to be much more dangerous and gruesome than they had planned for. While driving down a long and dark stretch of deserted highway, the car becomes surrounded by mysterious sinister spirits, forcing the captors and young girls to work together in hopes of surviving the deadly evil force.

Well done to Devil’s Mile for being the first of the last few horror films I have reviewed to actually make me shout out in fear. I’m sure it was some kind of a battle cry, drawn from some baser human instinct to fight the scary...

Forget Route 666. The Devil’s Mile is an even more evil stretch of road in this new horror thriller starring David Hayter and directed by Joseph O’Brien, with whom we recently had a chance to chat about the film.

Devil's Mile follows a trio of kidnappers who take an ill-advised detour (is there any other kind?) en route to deliver their hostages – a pair of teenage girls - to their mysterious employer. When one of the girls dies along the way, the trio’s slowly-boiling mistrust explodes into chaos.

But what they thought was their worst day ever is only beginning as they are engulfed by the hellish forces that haunt the road - a road they may never escape.

Dread Central: This is one of the few indie horror movies that really lives up to the promo material. I'm curious to know how much the story evolved...

Filming has completed on The Devil's Mile, the feature directorial debut of screenwriter Joseph O'Brien (Robocop: Prime Directives), who most recently collaborated with filmmaker and Rue Morgue founder Rodrigo Gudino on the screenplay for the Gudino-directed remake of Cutthroats Nine starring Mads Mikkelsen and Harvey Keitel.
