When asked if the next entry was viewed as a limited or one-off series, Phillips replied with, "We've got the strongest franchise in Showtime's history, and we plan to do this for years."

The news comes roughly a month after the show’s first season concluded on Feb. 14. It originally premiered in December 2024. Set in 1991, the show serves as the origin story of Dexter Morgan, with Patrick Gibson playing the young version of the iconic killer of killers. Michael C. Hall, who originated the title role in the Showtime series “Dexter,” provides the young Dexter’s inner monologue.

Big casting news has been revealed for the upcoming series Dexter: Resurrection. The new show serves as a follow-up to the previous Dexter sequel series, Dexter: New Blood.

Deadline reports that Dexter: Resurrection will bring back original Dexter stars David Zayas (Oz) and James Remar (Oppenheimer) with the two reprising their respective roles as Detective Angel Batissta and Harry Morgan. Deadline reports that a prequel series revolving around the Trinity Killer (played by John Lithgow in the original series) is still “in development” at Paramount+.

The Trinity Killer prequel series was actually reported to be in condition in early 2023, but it’s been a long time since we’ve heard anything about it. Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips and Dexter writer/producer Scott Reynolds will serve as co-creators and executive producers of the Trinity Killer prequel series. Phillips even revealed that John Lithgow has agreed to come back and provide the inner voice of his younger self, much in the same way Michael C. Hall is doing for Dexter: Original Sin.
