Emmys Acting Contenders: From Pedro Pascal and Diego Luna to Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, Who Was Officially Submitted
Image
With Emmy nominations voting officially underway, the Television Academy’s ballots are offering insight into which performances could break through when nominations are unveiled on July 15. While submission totals in several key categories are down — reflecting the industry’s ongoing post-strike recovery — the races remain competitive and dynamic, with marquee names and fresh talent jockeying for recognition.

The lead actor and actress categories in drama are notably tighter this year. Only 77 actors and 75 actresses were submitted — down slightly from 2024 (81 and 67) and a sharp decline from 2022’s highs (134 and 114). As a result, each category will have only five nominees unless ties boost the field to six.

The drama actor race includes a trio of Latino contenders making waves: Diego Luna for “Andor,” Pedro Pascal for “The Last of Us,” and Ramón Rodríguez for “Will Trent.” They’ll face off against a rising generation, and established career performers such as Matthew Goode (“Dept.

‘Nobody Wants This’ Season 2 Premiere Date Set at Netflix
Image
After months of speculation, the Season 2 premiere date of Netflix's hit romantic comedy, Nobody Wants This, has been revealed. And it's exactly when we thought it might be — the streamer just waited for the Kristen Bell and Adam Brody-starring show to have its For Your Consideration moment in order to announce it officially. It's an exciting development for fans of the series, which hit the streaming service in late 2024 but became an instant success thanks to its likable cast and fantastic writing. ‘Nobody Wants This’ Season 2 Netflix Premiere Date Revealed, Creator Promises ‘Romantic and Funny’ Outing
Image
Netflix know that a lot of somebodies want this. The second season of “Nobody Wants This” will premiere October 23. The show first dropped on the streamer last September to sparkling reviews, with IndieWire’s Proma Khosla praising the chemistry between leads Kristen Bell and Adam Brody.

The show, created by Erin Foster, finds Joanne and Noah (Brody) in a would-be conventional love story complicated by Noah’s position as a rabbi. Popular podcaster Joanne isn’t just not Jewish, she’s also unreligious generally — as is her entire non-traditional family. As Noah and Joanne attempt to acclimate to each other’s worlds, and Joanne explores converting, things get complicated — to put it lightly.

“Nobody Wants This” was renewed back in October, but the drop date was not revealed until the June 1 Netflix Fysee L.A. Emmy event at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles. The evening featured a screening of...

Adam Brody Teases “Repercussions” For Rabbi Noah In ‘Nobody Wants This’ Season 2 Following Move To Prioritize Love Over Work
Image
After debuting to critical and popular acclaim last September, Netflix’s rom-com series Nobody Wants This is getting very close to the start of production on Season 2. So what can star Adam Brody tease?

“Very little,” he admitted tonight, in conversation with Deadline on the SAG Awards red carpet. “I think repercussions from [Noah] choosing maybe love over work. He’s going to grapple with that. That’s about as much as I know, to be honest with you.”

Created by and exec produced by Erin Foster, Nobody Wants This explores the unconventional romance between Joanne, a candid agnostic podcaster portrayed by Kristen Bell, and Brody’s unconventional rabbi, Noah Roklov. Inspired by Foster’s relationship with husband Simon Tikhman, the show’s Season 1 finale saw Noah at a crossroads, as Joanne decided, after much contemplation, against converting to Judaism, in a move that leads to the couple’s breakup.

Kids Take The Plunge In Oscar Contender ‘A Swim Lesson,’ Documentary From Rashida Jones & Will McCormack That Could Save Lives
Image
Bill Marsh can teach your kid to swim. In fact, he may be better at it than anyone else.

If you think that’s no big deal, consider this: “In the United States, drowning is the leading cause of preventable death for children ages 1-4.” That statistic is cited in A Swim Lesson, the Oscar-shortlisted short documentary that follows Marsh in the pool as he instructs a new class of tots. For little kids, the 8-day-long process can be traumatic – at first.

“They’re hysterical and then they’re vomiting, and then they’re crying, and then they’re running out of the pool,” shares Rashida Jones, the filmmaker and actor who directed the documentary with Will McCormack, a fellow actor-director. McCormack, Jones, and producer Emily Arlook all put their kids through Marsh’s program.

Erin Foster Is Working on ‘Nobody Wants This’ Season 2 — and She Has Ideas for Season 3
Image
[This story contains spoilers from the season one finale of Nobody Wants This.]

“So, how does this work?” Erin Foster is already working on that answer.

The first season of her Jewish rom-com Nobody Wants This followed “hot rabbi” Noah (Adam Brody) and agnostic podcaster Joanne (Kristen Bell) falling in love — despite the obstacles, religious and otherwise. For Joanne, that included getting over her “ick” factor and winning over Noah’s “perfect ex” fan club. But Noah is in line to become the head rabbi at his Los Angeles synagogue, which makes marrying someone like Joanne, who isn’t Jewish, the biggest complication. By the end of their 10-episode courtship, Joanne decides to convert to Judaism for Noah, only to backtrack in the final moments of the season. But just when you think they are parting ways, Noah shows up and chooses her.

What does this mean for his lifelong rabbinical aspirations? What will his very opinionated Jewish family have to say?...

Netflix's rom-com series Nobody Wants This was inspired by creator and producer Erin Foster's real-life love story. She developed the concept in 2019 when she was converting to Judaism after meeting her now-husband, Simon Tikham, at a Los Angeles gym in 2018.

Although Foster based it on their story, Tikham is not a rabbi. However, the showrunner used him as her inspiration to create Noah, who she wanted to be "emotionally available, chivalrous, old-fashioned ... but also really funny and confident."

Nobody Wants This was added to Netflix's catalog on September 26, and it immediately dominated the charts at No. 2 with 10.3 million views.

Kristen Bell, Adam Brody and ‘Nobody Wants This’ Creator Break Down ‘Relatable Conflict’ Central to the Netflix Romcom
Image
“Nobody Wants This” centers on the love story between a rabbi and an atheist, who, despite their electric chemistry, struggle to reckon with their conflicting worldviews and communities.

As Joanne (Kristen Bell), an outspoken sex podcaster, and Noah (Adam Brody), a rabbi freshly out of a long-term relationship, bumble through the start of what their friends and families see as a relationship that won’t last, their minds are full of question marks for what a future together might look like — which is precisely what attracted Bell to the Netflix romcom series.

“When you’re reading a script and they pose a question that you feel like is a minefield of storylines, that’s a reason to do it,” Bell told TheWrap. “There’s so much to discover, and it’s not that there was any particular answer, because it depends on the two people whether or not this is...

Nobody Wants This Review: Kristen Bell & Adam Brody Are Easy To Watch In Charming Netflix Rom-Com
Image
Netflix's latest rom-com show, Nobody Wants This, starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, pays tribute to the actors' past roles. Best known for their coming-of-age soaps, the two teen drama icons fall in love in Nobody Wants This, a series that's unabashedly romantic but elevates itself above the competition by asking provocative questions. However, at the heart of the series is a traditional narrative of two people finding each other. There are moments when it could go further, but that's not what the show is for. It's idealistic, compelling, and doesn't ask too much from us.

‘Nobody Wants This’ Review: Kristen Bell and Adam Brody Share Crackling Chemistry in Netflix’s Frustratingly Uneven Rom-Com
Image
For many viewers, Netflix’s Nobody Wants This will be enjoyable simply as the very conventional, frequently likable rom-com that it is.

Sure, it’s extremely sitcom-y at every turn, but stars Kristen Bell and Adam Brody have an easy, instantly combustible chemistry that says, “In 2004 we were every smart TV fan’s favorite pair of snarky high schoolers and now, 20 years later, we’re ready to be treated like grown-ups and for everybody to remark upon how well we’ve aged.” Bell and Brody are accompanied by a supporting cast of veteran scene stealers, and creator Erin Foster has additionally given their tale a specificity that sets it apart from your average meet-cute about mismatched lovers.

Specificity, however, brings its own set of responsibilities. It isn’t that I want to get caught up in “but is it good for the Jews?” internal monologuing, but if you’re me (and most of you,...

Kristen Bell and Adam Brody Reluctantly Fall in Love in Netflix’s ‘Nobody Wants This’ Trailer
Image
Kristen Bell and Adam Brody play the most unlikely couple of our dreams in Netflix’s new romantic comedy series “Nobody Wants This.” The show hails from creator Erin Foster (“Barely Famous”), who based the story on her own life. She serves as showrunner alongside “Kevin Can F** Himself” showrunner Craig Digregorio.

In the trailer, Bell is introduced as a Joanne, an agnostic podcast host who meets an intriguing man named Noah (Brody) at a dinner party, and is surprised to realize his profession: a rabbi.

“You’re a rabbi?” Bell’s Joanne asks Brody’s Noah in the trailer for the new series. “It’s hot, right?” Noah responds.

As the pair kick off their relationship, it’s hard not to let their families intervene, with Joanne’s sister, Morgan (Justine Lupe) immediately pointing out the couple is a “weird pair.” Noah, on the other hand, is fresh out of a relationship,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the grown-ish series finale “Grown.”] Grown-ish bid farewell after six seasons in an emotional series finale on May 22. In the penultimate episode, Zoey (Yara Shahidi) bolted after Aaron’s (Trevor Jackson) romantic proposal, and she consulted Ana (Francia Raisa), Nomi (Emily Arlook), Vivek (Jordan Buhat), and more about how to handle this delicate situation. So, did Zoey and Aaron get their happy ending? Luka (Luka Sabbat) tried one last time to win Zoey’s heart, but barely tried at all. He FaceTimed Zoey and told her that he’d always loved her. Zoey put him firmly in the friend zone and said they’d forever be “long distance pals.” A big L for Team Luka. Zoey and Aaron were forced to confront their future at Junior’s graduation boat party. Yara Shahidi Reflects on Closing Out ‘Grown-ish’
Image
Taking cues from The Cosby Show’s iconic spinoff A Different World but updated for some 30 years later, Grown-ish, the Black-ish spawn premiered on Freeform in January 2018 by following Yara Shahidi’s Zoey Johnson, Dre (Anthony Anderson) and Bow’s (Tracee Ellis Ross) firstborn, to college. Similar to its predecessor, Grown-ish tackled many controversial topics, including university investment in the prison system, drug use, pre-nil exploitation of college athletes, sex, the value of college and more, but did so with a fresh voice and perspective.

Zoey’s college world included her competing love interests — woke Black campus activist Aaron (Trevor Jackson) and ultimate hipster Luca (Luka Sabbat) — as well as Latina Republican Ana (Francia Raìsa), Jewish rebel Nomi (Emily Arlook), first-generation Indian American and all-around hustler Vivek (Jordan Buhat), Olympic-bound South Los Angeles track stars Jazz and Sky (sisters Chloe and Halle Bailey, who perform the show’s theme song) and later,...

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the series finale of Freeform’s grown-ish.

It’s the end of an era.

Freeform’s grown-ish ended its run Wednesday night after six seasons with Junior (Marcus Scribner) celebrating his graduation in a bit of an unexpected way.

Fresh off a rejected proposal, Aaron (Trevor Jackson) decides to join him and hopefully avoid Zoey (Yara Shahidi) at all costs.

Their friends have other ideas, though. Before long, this stranger’s yacht is filled to the brim with 20-somethings and bottles of alcohol.

Junior spends much of the party pretty frantically trying to make sure his boss doesn’t find out...
