Warwick Davis says Disney+’s removal of the Willow series is “embarrassing”
Image
Willow actor and silver screen legend Warwick Davis is not holding back about Disney’s removal of the Willow series. Davis recently took to social media to break his silence about the House of Mouse pulling its Willow series from the streaming platform as part of a broader cost-cutting initiative under Disney CEO Bob Iger.

“I meet lovely people on a daily basis who are fans of #Willow, who are the reason the @DisneyPlus series was made,” Davis wrote on X (formally known as Twitter). “Please tell me @WaltDisneyCo, what do I say to these subscribers when they ask why they can’t watch the series any more? #embarrassing”

The streamer announced in March that there would be no second season of the original series, based on the 1988 fantasy film directed by Ron Howard. However, series creator Jon Kasdan later categorized Willow‘s status as more of a pause than cancellation, noting that Season 2 has been written and he is hopeful that it will eventually be made, but not for at least the next 12 months, leading to a decision to release the cast.

Image
Los Angeles, Aug 12 (Ians) Actor Stephen Amell best known for his role in ‘Arrow’ as the superhero Green Arrow, has joined the picket lines of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikers just weeks after protesting their stance, as the actor had earlier proceeded to call their strike as very harmful to the industry.

Those attending the reunion picket Friday included “Arrow” actors Kirk Acevedo, Katie Cassidy, Juliana Harkavy, Willa Holland, Katrina Law and Caity Lotz, as well as executive producers Marc Guggenheim, Wendy Mericle and Beth Schwartz.

Amell earned criticism from fellow union members after seeming to speak critically about the strike on July 30 at Galaxycon in Raleigh, N.C. in a widely-distribted clip.

The impact of Amell's controversial stance on his future career remains uncertain, but time will reveal if he faces any obstacles in the industry.

Willow Writer Blasts Disney for Delisting the Series: 'Absolutely Cruel'
Image
Willow writer John Bickerstaff just blasted Disney for delisting the show from Disney+, branding the move "absolutely cruel."

Bickerstaff took to Twitter to voice his displeasure with Disney, noting that Willow was being removed from Disney+ less than six months after its final episode aired. The scribe's tweet also suggested that Willow's treatment was representative of the increasingly harsh climate of the wider film and TV industry. Bickerstaff was one of several writers who contributed to Willow and is credited with co-writing the revival series' third episode, "The Battle of the Slaughtered Lamb," with Wendy Mericle.

Why Arrow Killed Off Laurel Lance In Season 4
Image
Laurel Lance, a.k.a. Black Canary, was killed off during Arrow season 4, but it wasn't the end for actor Katie Cassidy. Arrow season 1 introduced viewers to Laurel Lance, the former girlfriend of Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) who reconciles with the billionaire playboy following his five-year stint on the mysterious island of Lian Yu. In season 3, Laurel follows in her deceased sister's footsteps and becomes a vigilante in her own right, known as Black Canary, a move that eventually strengthens the bond between her and Queen.

Arrow season 4 began with a flashforward with Oliver Queen standing by a tombstone, set six months in the future. Viewers only knew that one of the main characters would die and that this death wouldn’t be undone by magic or time-travel. Eventually, the Arrow revealed it was Laurel who ended up in the grave. The sudden death sparked controversy, as it was a...

‘Willow’ Creator Jon Kasdan Remains Optimistic For A Season 2 — But Not For At Least A Year

Willow creator Jon Kasdan remains hopeful that we will see a second season of the fantasy series, following news that it is ending, at least for now. Kasdan took to social media Thursday to reassure fans that a Season 2 has been written and he has every hope that it will eventually air, but not for at least the next 12 months.

“A decision was made last week to release our main cast for other series opportunities that may arise for them in the coming year,” he wrote, taking issue with Deadline’s and other online reports of the series ending. He added that he feels “fairly confident that, if asked, neither I, nor the folks at Lucasfilm, would or have actually characterized it” as a final cancellation.

As Deadline noted, while the series won’t continue in its current form as the cast has been released, Willow remains an important IP in the Lucasfilm library,...

“Willow” creator Jon Kasdan has addressed reports from earlier this week that the fantasy series has been canceled after one season.

Willow Canceled After One Season at Disney+
Willow (2022)
Disney+ is closing the book on Willow.

Deadline reported Wednesday that the streaming service has canceled the live-action sequel series based on the 1988 movie.

The cancellation comes two months after the eight-episode Willow Season 1 wrapped up.

Disney+ rarely releases viewership statistics for any of its shows; when it does, the details are vague.

It turns out, streaming services like to keep the numbers under lock and key.

Willow featured a diverse international cast, with Jonathan Kasdan, Ron Howard, Wendy Mericle, Kathleen Kennedy, and Michelle Rejwan serving as executive producers.

The story began with an aspiring magician from a Nelwyn village and an infant girl destined to unite the realms, who together helped destroy an evil queen and banish the forces of darkness.

"Now, in a magical world where brownies, sorcerers, trolls, and other mystical creatures flourish, the adventure continues, as an unlikely group of heroes set off on a dangerous...

Disney+ Cancels Willow TV Series After Just One Season
Image
Legacy sequels are big business right now, and the "Willow" Disney+ series seemed poised to potentially be a successful part of that trend. Unfortunately, the series has been canceled by the House of Mouse after only one season, according to Deadline. The show's eight-episode first season ended just about two months ago, but the streaming service has decided not to move forward with any more installments.

Based on the 1988 film of the same name from director Ron Howard, "Willow" followed up on the story of a sorcerer named Willow (Warwick Davis), who found himself charged with the task of taking down an evil tyrant. The series takes place many years after the events of the film and follows several new characters, along with some old familiar faces. However, it seems that there just wasn't enough there to grab audiences' attention.

‘Willow’ to End at Disney+ After 1 Season
Willow (2022)
“Willow,” the fantasy series that continued the story of Ron Howard’s beloved 1988 movie, won’t return for a second season Disney+, TheWrap confirmed on Wednesday.

The eight-episode first season, which brought back original cast member Warwick Davis as the title character, premiered on Nov. 30, 2022. It costarred Ellie Bamber, Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman, Amer Chadha-Patel and Tony Revolori.

After the news broke, fans lamented that another show with a queer storyline was ending. The series featured a romance between Princess Kit Tanthalos (Cruz) and her knight errant, Jade Claymore (Kellyman).

Showrunner Jonathan Kasdan told EW in December. “It was not a decision that was ever made because we thought we needed queer representation in the show or that that was something we were intent on doing. ‘Willow’ Canceled After One Season at Disney+
Image
It appears “Willow’s” magic has already run out again. The Disney+ fantasy series, a sequel to the 1988 Ron Howard film of the same name, will not return for a second season, IndieWire has confirmed.

The news comes two months after the show, which premiered on November 30, concluded its eight-episode run on Disney+ in January. Like the film, “Willow” was produced by Lucasfilm, which has been one of the main drivers of content for Disney’s core streaming service through shows based on the “Star Wars” franchise; others include “The Mandalorian,” “The Book of Boba Fett,” “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” “Andor,” and the upcoming “Ahsoka,” “Skeleton Crew,” and “The Acolyte.”

Disney+ ended 2022 with 102.9 subscribers; another 61.3 million are in the ecosystem via Disney+ Hotstar.

The original ’80s film, which was directed by Ron Howard and executive produced by “Star Wars” creator George Lucas, told the story of aspiring sorcerer Willow (Warwick Davis), as...

‘Willow’ Canceled After Single Season on Disney+
Image
The journey of Willow won’t continue on Disney+.

The streamer has canceled the Lucasfilm series, a sequel to the 1988 movie of the same title, after a single season. The news comes two months after the eight-episode season concluded its run.

Disney+ doesn’t provide viewing data for its programming, but Willow didn’t break into the Nielsen top 10 rankings of streaming titles during its run. The series earned mostly positive reviews from critics.

The cancellation comes during a transition period for both Lucasfilm, which is reconsidering the output of its signature Star Wars franchise, and Disney’s streaming operations. Like other companies, Disney is pulling back some on the lavish spending on streaming content; Willow’s cancellation at Disney+ follows the ends of Big Shot and The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers in February.

Warwick Davis reprises his title role from the Ron Howard-directed film in the series. The...

“Willow” continued the story of the film of the same name, with Warwick Davis returning for the series in the title role of Willow Ufgood. The show was originally reported as being in the works at Disney+ back in 2019 and ordered to series in late 2020.

Along with Davis, the cast of the show included Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman, Ellie Bamber, Tony Revolori, Amar Chadha-Patel, Dempsey Bryk, and Joanne Whalley. “Willow” Series Cancelled at Disney+ After Just One Season
Willow (2022)
A new adventure began last year on Disney+ with the premiere of “Willow” in November, a TV series adaptation/expansion of Ron Howard‘s 1988 fantasy adventure film. Unfortunately, we’ve learned this afternoon that Disney+ has already cancelled “Willow.” In all likelihood, not enough people tuned into Season 1 to justify the spend for another season.

Deadline reports, “Willow, which picked up years after the events of the film, did not have the zeitgeist cultural impact of the original but was well received by critics, getting a 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. While the series won’t continue, Willow remains an important IP in the Lucasfilm library so it may be revisited in the future.”

Jonathan Kasdan and Wendy Mericle were the showrunners for “Willow.”

“The series introduced all-new characters to the enchanted realm of fairy queens and two-headed Eborsisk monsters, and welcomed back its hero, Willow Ufgood, played once again by Warwick Davis.
